Kuai Liang is not "nice"

This is technically the second part of my character analysis for Kuai Liang, so be sure to check out the first part focusing on Kuai Liang's personality, goals and his relationship with his brothers and Harumi.

This part will focus on how Kuai Liang treats other characters and upon closer inspection, the image of the "sweet wholesome guy everyone adores" that the fandom crafted for him starts to crumble very quickly.

Kitana and Mileena:

Mileena: My bond with Kitana can't be broken. Scorpion: I'd once thought the same of mine with Bi-Han.

Why exactly is Kuai Liang trying to make Mileena doubt Kitana's loyalty to her? We have all seen Kitana's tower ending. She has gone out of her way to secure her sister's reign, she defends Mileena fiercely and is genuinely worried about her. It upsets her to see other members of the court conspiring against her sister. Kitana is nothing but loyal to Mileena, in a way Kuai Liang was never loyal to Bi-Han.

"I'm disappointed in my brother's decisions and therefore everyone else's siblings suck too." That's not a healthy or mature mindset. He's projecting his own family issues onto Mileena and Kitana, who actually share a wholesome bond, and tries to create distrust and dispute where there is none. And why? Out of jealousy? It's hard to tell, but this was uncalled for.

It's particularly awful because Kitana is actually trying to help fix Kuai Liang's relationship with his own brother while it seems Kuai Liang is trying to ruin hers with Mileena.

Kitana: You've broken Kuai Liang's heart. Sub-Zero: It won't be the only part of him I damage.

Kitana: I understand congratulations are in order. Scorpion: How did news of my marriage reach Outworld?

Kitana: Weapons. Soldiers. Whatever you -- Scorpion: I have all that I need to defeat Bi-Han.

She's also offering him her and Outworld's support and is really just being nice to him, yet he never once shows gratitude and even tries to plant doubts about her in her sister's mind behind her back.

Nitara:

Scorpion: If you would only feed on lower species -- Nitara: Humans are a lower species.

"Lower species"? What species exactly is Kuai Liang talking about here? What's his definition of a lower species? Tarkatans? Netherrealmers? One could assume he means animals, but then why doesn't he say so? Instead, he's using a term that's often used in f*cist language. Who or what he's referring to isn't specified either, but it's definitely a questionable choice of words regardless.

Let's be honest, the mindset that there's "lower species" that are not deserving of life, as Kuai Liang basically implies by claiming Nitara should feed on them instead, says quite a lot about the kind of person he is. No matter what he's speaking of here, I still think this is pretty fucked up from any standpoint, especially because Kuai Liang doesn't explicitly say that he's talking about animals.

This is just my opinion, but even if he were to "only" be talking about animals here, I think it's downright wrong to say any animals are a "lower species", given the fact that we very much depend on certain animals for our own survival. Even if we give Kuai Liang the benefit of the doubt, he still sounds incredibly uneducated and ignorant. To not value the life of other creatures is not a good look on him, but then again we've seen how much he values his own brother's life so the bar is quite literally in hell.

Raiden:

Scorpion: Liu Kang's revelation has shaken my faith in him. Raiden: Understandable, given what he chose to hide.

Reptile: Am I right to put faith in Liu Kang? Scorpion: He's always proven worthy of mine.

Oh, has he now?

Kuai Liang is beginning to sound two-faced. He's certainly not conflicted because he still continues to follow Liu Kang and advices others to do the same. He also doesn't openly criticize or doubt Liu Kang like Tomáš and Bi-Han do. But he himself has lost some of his faith in Liu Kang, yet he judges Bi-Han for having done the same thing? Where does any of that make sense?

Bi-Han:

Scorpion: You would shed your brother's blood? Sub-Zero: Because you choose to stand in my way.

The first blood shed was Bi-Han's, not Kuai Liang's, but because Bi-Han doesn't bear a visible scar, no one acknowledges that.

Kuai Liang is once again showing manipulative behavior here. Blaming everything on his brother and pretending he did nothing wrong. Guilt tripping Bi-Han for something he himself has done.

Kuai Liang's actions are not even the biggest problem here. You can somehow justify what he did with him being hurt/angry when he found out about the true circumstances of his father's death. It's the fact that he refuses to take any responsibility for what he did and acts completely innocent although he's anything but, that shows he's not who the fandom makes him out to be.

Even Bi-Han stands by what he does. Kuai Liang can't even own up to his actions.

Liu Kang:

Liu Kang: You allow vengeance to consume you. Scorpion: I should not punish Bi-Han for his crimes?

So, Liu Kang seems concerned with Kuai Liang's thirst for vengeance. What's even more noteworthy is that we have Kuai Liang, a mortal, speak to Liu Kang, a literal god, about punishing someone else as if he's entitled to do so? Should it not be up to Liu Kang to decide whether Bi-Han deserves forgiveness or punishment? Do we need to add a god complex to the list of Kuai Liang's flaws?

There's nothing honorable about vengeance. It's honorable to be the bigger person and to forgive.

As Chinese philosopher Confucius said:

“Love thy neighbour as thyself: Do not do to others what thou wouldst not wish be done to thyself: Forgive injuries. Forgive thy enemy, be reconciled to him, give him assistance, invoke God in his behalf.”

Kuai Liang has none of that honor he claims to value.

Tanya:

Tanya: Liu Kang says we can trust you. Kuai Liang: As long as Outworld's goals don't conflict with Earthrealm's.

Let me translate it: "No, you can't. I'll stop being a reliable ally and might betray you as soon as our interests no longer align." Which is fair enough, he doesn't owe Outworld his loyalty. It's, however, funny that that's exactly what Bi-Han did with Liu Kang/Earthrealm too, but for some reason Kuai Liang is still delusional enough to think he's a more honorable man than his brother?

Kung Lao:

Kung Lao: I bet I could be Shirai Ryu. Scorpion: First, you must learn humility.

Also Scorpion:

Ashrah: I'd do well to follow your example. Scorpion: Then start by studying my kombat.

Quan Chi: Your brother told me of all your weaknesses. Scorpion: A short conversation, sorcerer?

Kuai Liang is a hypocrite who doesn't practice what he preaches. These are just two of many dialogues in which he comes off as overly confident and boastful. He will try to force his own values and ideals onto others but will not uphold them himself. These dialogues are not even the only example of his hypocrisy, but more of that to come later.

Smoke and the Shaolin monks:

Scorpion: Was it worth it, training with the Shaolin? Smoke: Let me show you what I learned.

Yet another example for Kuai Liang's arrogance. "Was it worth it?" What's that even supposed to mean? Admittedly, this might not sound as bad compared to everything else he's said but I invite you to go and listen to this specific intro and pay attention to the tone of his voice. To me, it very much sounds like, as a former Lin Kuei, he thinks there's nothing the monks can teach him and Tomáš anymore and therefore he sees training with them as a waste of time. Overall, Kuai Liang seems to hold little respect for his allies. He might not outright say it, but there's definitely a superiority complex there.

Johnny:

Scorpion: Your mansion was unduly extravagant. Johnny Cage: It came with the megastardom. Package deal.

What gives Kuai Liang the right to judge Johnny for what he does with his money that he's earned from his movies? Judging people and acting like he has the moral high ground over them in any situation is something Kuai Liang does a lot. That alone might not automatically make him a bad person, but it's tasteless and impolite nonetheless.

Johnny Cage: With your skills you'd be a hit, Kuai Liang. Scorpion: Do I look like an entertainer?

Again, if you listen to the actual intro, the distaste in his voice is obvious. He seems to not have much respect for Johnny's profession or for most of his allies' professions, really. Remember his reaction to Tomáš training with the Shaolin monks?

Rain:

Scorpion: Like a dog, you bit the hand that fed you. Rain: You've no right to judge me, Earthrealmer.

He doesn't -- because did Kuai Liang not do the same to Bi-Han? It doesn't matter that Bi-Han chose the wrong side, Kuai Liang's oath was to his grandmaster, not to Earthrealm. Bi-Han broke his oath to Earthrealm and by breaking his own oath to his brother, Kuai Liang is no better. And as I already explained in the first part of my analysis, Kuai Liang always meant to overthrow Bi-Han, even before Bi-Han abandoned his duties to defend Earthrealm. Bi-Han gave in to corruption and became a traitor, Kuai Liang was always a traitor in disguise. Kuai Liang is yet again being a hypocrite in this situation and displays double standards.

Kenshi:

Scorpion: Do not let Sento become a crutch. Kenshi: I could win this fight with or without it.

Does anyone else think this comment sounds a lot like ableism? Who is he to tell a disabled man how to handle his disability? Kenshi is a badass, he's proven that countless of times and he doesn't need Kuai Liang's advice, but Kuai Liang has a habit of acting like he knows better than others.

Bi-Han (again):

Shang Tsung: It was all too simple, pulling your brother's strings. Kuai Liang: It sickens me that he was so easily exploited.

Bi-Han fell victim to Shang Tsung's manipulation, yet here Kuai Liang is, blaming the victim. Meanwhile, Tomáš:

Smoke: I rue the day I ever met you. Quan Chi: No sense dwelling on the past, Tomáš.

Tomáš regrets ever meeting the sorcerers because he rightfully blames the people responsible for this whole mess, Shang Tsung and Quan Chi, not Bi-Han. Kuai Liang is miles away from the same level of emotional maturity Tomáš has.

Scorpion: "Bi-Han's trail has led me to Sun Do." Li Mei: "I'll abide no vigilante justice, Kuai Liang."

Scorpion: If you know where he is, tell me. General Shao: As if I would spill your brother's secrets.

Scorpion: I need help to find Bi-Han. Johnny Cage: Y'know I was only a TV detective, right?

Kuai Liang is making his own family feud everyone else's problem.

SPOILERS: At the same time, when Bi-Han will crash Kuai Liang's wedding in the dlc according to leaks, Kuai Liang will "apologize" to those who attended that they got dragged into his war with Bi-Han, once again painting his brother as the villain. Could he be any more duplicitous? I think the main reason why Smoke is not mentioned in any leaks is because the writers might deliberately not want him to be there because the way Kuai Liang acts (wanting to kill Frost, leaving Bi-Han to suffer and die) would go against everything Tomáš believes in and they can't have someone make Scorpion look bad, so they decided to just have Tomáš not be there at all. If that doesn't say it all, I don't know what will.

Kuai Liang:

Scorpion: I won't be consumed by vengeance. Scorpion: How can your father's death not burn you.

You know it's bad when your own alternate self starts judging you and criticizing your ways.

Geras:

Scorpion: I want to see the moment my father died. Geras: You are not ready to receive that knowledge.

I wonder why Geras denied Kuai Liang's request. Is he concerned that actually witnessing the event will make Kuai Liang lose his mind completely and he will make even more of an effort to kill Bi-Han? He surely seems to think Kuai Liang is too unstable to receive that information. But then again, Kuai Liang already wants to kill Bi-Han, he already tried to do it and he already knows what happened. When will he be ready in Geras' opinion? Once he already forgave Bi-Han (which seems like it won't happen at all)? Would that not just reignite his old hatred? Could it be that there's more to the death of Kuai Liang's father than we know? Is there something Geras is trying to hide from Kuai Liang on purpose?

Ashrah:

Ashrah: Bi-Han can be redeemed. Scorpion: I don't see how that's possible.

It sounds a lot like Kuai Liang doesn't want it to be possible. He wants to deny his brother a chance at redemption. He's also once again acting like he knows better than everyone else. It's getting to the point where he seems self-righteous and out of touch with reality.

So, tell me again, after all that, why are we calling Kuai Liang a nice guy?

To conclude this, Kuai Liang only appears "nice" in direct comparison to Bi-Han, not necessarily because he's a better person, he's just the more agreeable one of the two. Take Bi-Han out of the picture and it's plain to see Kuai Liang is really not that nice. I also don't see how Kuai Liang is the poor, traumatized victim that never did anything wrong in his life, as fans like to describe him as. Yes, he suffered as well, but victims can also become aggressors. There are plenty of situations in which that's the case for Kuai Liang. Again, this is not hate or an attempt to completely demonize him, just to show that the fandom has a wrong idea of who Kuai Liang is and what he's like.

I might have ranted about this before but I can't find my old anon tag nor my old posts so. 🐊 anon from now on for whatever else I need to rant abt on here.

this is all mostly me ranting about forced inclusivity and queer stuff (coming from a poly, pan person) so if you need to skip over this, you've been warned

Firstly, I absolutely despise Vinedeeri. It feels like it only exists because "uhh woman and woman haha they're the few woman characters in the game lets ship them because yuri" SHUT UP!! Ships used to have an interesting dynamic, they used to have substance and angst and fluff in every fandom I was in, all the ships I used to see were because they were so interesting and created so many different scenarios.

Instead, what I see most of in the phighting community and similar fandoms is "toxic yuri/yaoi!" "I love my yaoi" "gay ppl" and whatnot. Can people not ship things that aren't queer anymore? Can people not ship things for a dynamic instead of for sexuality?

It genuinely baffles me that Trafficdeeri is considered a rarepair. Don't they literally have interactions in canon?? Isn't Lightblox like an adopted daughter to Traffic?? And yet most of the fandom prefers "haha yuri woman x woman" over good content for a wholesome narrative on found family and adoption and whatnot.

Also I prefer Hyperzuka over Hypertana. I've had several people look at me weird for this one and I genuinely still feel a bit uncomfortable saying I ship the two because of that because it was the kind of reaction being a proshipper gives you, but as far as I'm aware they're fine to ship? Feel free to correct me on if there's anything I'm missing, but I just find the kind of "alcoholic mess x previous alcoholic mess" dynamic more compelling than "alcoholic mess with issues x alcoholic mess with issues" regardless of whether it's being interpreted as platonic or romantic.

Also also, I don't like Scythe being made POC. I find making a character black for inclusivity kind of silly, but even moreso insulting when it's, oh, you know, one of the only characters with a different skintone?? What, is being tan not "inclusive" enough? Did it not appeal to the fandom enough? Was having a character that was tan in a way that'd fit the canon not good enough? I dislike race swapping in general, but it's just. So much more irritating when it's taking away the only tan character the game had. ffs real inclusivity should live up to it's name, it should be inclusive not "appealing to the minority" it should be inclusive for everyone. The minority that needs it, the minority that's harassed, the minority that barely speaks up about it. Not just one group. Please. God. also she's a serial killer that's kind of an issue too liike. out of all the characters you had to pick 1: the serial killer and 2: the only playable character with a different skintone

I would also like to say I absolutely hate she/her subspace. I genuinely do not get why someone would look at an insane scientist that'd probably laugh at torturing people and go "Aww, she's so quirky" or whatever. It genuinely confuses me beyond belief how she/her subspace is such a widely accepted headcanon. What part of probably-capitalist mad scientist that invented hundreds of machines made for war and ruthless killing says "girlypop twink" to you??

And lastly, this game has boring characters when it tries to make them interesting, ironically enough. Some of the most interesting characters to me (outside of subspace) are Vine Staff and Shuriken just because of how many different angles you could take with the core of their character and how... Fundamentally simple they are. They're siblings, they have a clear theme, they're kind of angst-free characters outside of Vine's curse, and they have a strong bond. It's not a lot, but it's all that you need for a lot of interesting content. On the contrary, take Broker and Scythe- two relatively safe picks to hate on. They're part of a cult, Scythe is a serial killer, Broker has some sorts of phone imagery as far as I'm aware, and the cult has something something eyes something I genuinely can't remember. It's kind of more? It's meant to be more, at least. And yet I can't figure out anything interesting about this other than Broker's theme with phones that's kind of neat but the lore does nothing with that. And the eye stuff.. well, yeah, it has potential but it's just so, so underdeveloped. In trying to make the cult so much more it's ended up with so many concepts and so few that are actually solid, in comparison to characters that are simpler. Hell, look at Boombox! He's also a pretty simple character, but he's easy to enjoy too. And there's also the whole thing with him being able to tell something's up with Subspace. Maybe I just read into details a lot, but oh well.

》 Black Alice is unpredictable. While she does have that playful side, feigning innocence, it makes her all the more dangerous. She doesn't see what she's doing as bad, and even if she does, she just doesn't care. She thinks it makes it all the more entertaining.

》 Bend over, put your head between your legs, and kiss your ass goodbye. Whoever you were before she set her sights on you is irrelevant. If the psychotic monster that rules the world wants you, she's going to have you. If she has to slaughter an entire city's worth of people to get to you, so be it.

》 Ever since Alice was born, she's had an endless lust for power, not really knowing much else. She's pretty much as far as one can be from being in tune with their emotions. The line between things like love or just being entertained by someone is foggy at best. One minute, she can be hopelessly in love with you, and the next, she is making you do unspeakable things with Beary you're just there to entertain her. Stable is not a word anyone would use to describe her.

》 On the bright side, if you behave, you'll be living the good life. Most other monsters are smart enough to stay away from you. If you want something, she'll quite literally have no issue tearing an entire continent to pieces to get it got you. She takes good care of her toys and you're no exception.

》 Alice can be... surprisingly wholesome? Nothing shouts scary world ending terror like a tea party with a stuffed bear and her 'friends.' You're invited too, of course! Alice doesn't care much for rules, letting anyone do practically anything they want, as long as it doesn't bother her. She does have two specific rules everyone has to follow, though.

- You and Beary are off limits.

- Do not interrupt her tea parties.

She's killed for much less, so if some random bozo breaks those rules, it won't end well.

》 Speaking of punishments, she probably wouldn't kill you. You'll be wishing for it if you ever do get punished. She isn't known as the most cruel monster lord in history for no reason. You'll get really familiar with all the things she can do with her body. While that may sound good and all... you're probably a degenerate if you're here, so I'm sure you'll be fine.

》 Try not to look at any other girls. It won't really be too hard if you've seen some of their designs, but she will just kill them. No questions asked. Unless it's someone relatively important to her, like the Lilith sisters. In that case, you'll at least have someone to get tentacle'd with.

》 You won't be touching grass anytime soon. Good luck leaving the Monster Lord's castle with a bunch of girls who can move faster than light and manhandle you like you're a child. There's always the prison in there if it gets too bad.

》 If some terrorist doesn't try and succeed to end her life, kids will probably come into the equation eventually. She's getting them whether you like it or not. The world will improve greatly with having a bunch of mini Alices running around.

》 In the end, you're pretty screwed. Just behave, and you'll be taken care of. If you don't, she has no problem just using critical ecstacy or some other sort of mind manipulation against you. She sees the world as her wonderland, and she'll treat it as such.

》 If we take her Goddess of Chaos form into account, just take everything here and multiply it by batshit insane. Isn't much you can do against an omniscient goddess who stands above creation itself. There isn't much she can't do with you either.

Thoughts on today's Batman issue:

Selina's outfit on the cover was cute

Why is Tim still going by Robin here? Last time I checked they gave us the excuse of "he's only Robin because Damian is out of town," but Damian is now back in town and has been for a while, so why is he STILL Robin?

What pisses me of about this the most is that Damian isn't even being referred to as Robin in this comic, they just call him Damian (even though he's still in costume), but Peter Pan still called Robin like its 1989.

Jason actually looks good for once? Granted he looks like he's in his 30's, but you can't win them all.

I'm calling it now, the story will end with all of Gotham's mobsters ganging up on Selina for ruining the henchmen market with Batman going "See? This is exactly why your plan will never work!" and Selina going "oops, guess my plan was wrong after all, I promise not to do it again🤞🏽" then they will have a cringey kiss scene and the event is over.

Bruce has been very arrogant and cocky through-out this story, but I guess that's okay because he's Batman? Now if it was Damian saying "they're not the best.....they're not me" everyone would have ripped him to shreds for bring an arrogant cocky brat who needs to be humbled.

The whole Bruce and Jason fight was such a mess, he's still talking about Jason as if he's some savage serial-killer even though for years now, DC has stripped Jason's of all his edginess to make him a corny wholesome member of the the Batfam, so which is it now? Because if he's still a savage killer.......then why was he drinking tea with all of them just a minute ago?

While I'm glad they didn't allow Bruce to win against all of kids, the fight was still two-sided for me, like Cassandra alone should have been enough to take him down? But somehow he still managed to escape her + 4 Batkids and again, he's inner-monologue was so arrogant.

Damian punching Jason was funny.

If I'm going to be 100% honest, I don't like the fact that Damian is the only one on Bruce's side, don't get me wrong I don't think he would be on Selina's side or anything, but they didn't give us a proper exploration of Damian's personal POV and why he chose to side with Bruce, instead it just screams "only his BLOOD son will be on his side <3" which is lame, because there's no real reason why literally everyone else is on Selina's side.

Vandal Savage was so random at the end, but I guess we will see how it ends.

Hehehe I love the idea of these fools being a dysfunctional family unit. I literally need semi-wholesome content on the beach members because otherwise I will lose it. The AIB fandom has really brought out my drive, bc I will be the change I wish to see in the fandom space. Uh, they are dysfunctional with a capital D, so this isn't entirely wholesome, but I'm writing this, so you can't be too surprised.

Today on the board; Aguni, Kuzuryuu, Mira, and Chishiya

-Aguni, Hatter, and Kuzuryuu are the father figures to the group. -Aguni and Hatter used to date but are still friends who maybe have lingering feelings. Who knows. -Aguni just fucking sighs and has to drag them around when they're being stupid, especially the militants. -Has a special soft spot for Arisu once he joins bc he's so hopeful and sweet, and he likes having a moral compass around. Arisu is also the only heart specialist who doesn't resort to murder -He's the only one Niragi listens to, which is why he's the only diamond orientated militant. -Hates the beach and everything it stands for, bc he knows it's a lie. He misses the Hatter before the beach ruined him, and his feelings for him are forever tainted. Tries not to make their history the beach's problem.

-Kuzuryuu didn't even realize he was a dad, he's just fucking there. He's the calm fatherly validation half the board craves, and he has 0 questions. -He has favorites, and it's the exec's diamond trio (Ann, Chishiya, and Niragi) -Fully supports Chishiya's tinkering hobby. Told him that if being a doctor didn't work out, then he should go into STEM. -Finds the entire beach to be a headache, but does genuinely care for the exec members. -Best friends with Mira, who's taken up the role as wine aunt. She's the one who convinced him to come check out the beach. They both help put the exec members into games they're good at.

-Mira interacts with everyone with a Gatekeep Gaslight Girlboss energy about her that freaks everyone else out. She's fully capable of making normal expressions, but chooses to smile her way through everything. -Unironically plays therapist to the exec board bc she was/is a licensed psychiatrist, and they're all so mentally fucked up. She does it in the 'I can't make you better or worse, but I can figure out what's so funky about you' kinda way. She mostly does this to Niragi and Arisu, and also maybe Hatter when he's around. -Casually threatens everyone's life subtly and offers 0 explanations. She's unironically the scariest person at the beach, bc she's so unsettling. -enjoys girls night with Ann, Kuina, and Usagi whenever she's invited, and gets her hair braided -She makes the most references to memes along with hatter, to the annoyance of literally everyone else.

-Chishiya stares in silent judgment whenever he has to fix up an injury, frequently pulls out the 'I'm just a med student' and 'i work with children' cards to get out of things. Makes jokes about just letting them die to scare them. -He wears hoodies everywhere he goes bc they're his comfort clothing item and no one comments on it. Uses big medical words in casual convo to irritate the execs. Autism creature #1, I'm right. -Hates being touched unless he initiates it or gives permission, and is very firm about this boundary. Arisu once tried to hug him and got tased. He didn't try again.

-Silent rage towards Ann for being so goddamn tall. Wears chunky sneakers to appear slightly taller (a/n no genuinely, look in the show those are 2-inch shoes) -He sees Niragi as the worst version of himself, and it honestly freaks him out sometimes. Entirely neutral on his existence most of the time, but finds bickering with him amusing. -Chishiya simply doesn't express himself like everyone else, but he does feel the normal range of human emotions. Mira mentioned him possibly being neurodivergent.

-Kuzuryuu is his dad and that's fine with him

I know this is a yandere blog, but you mentioned BG3 and I just have to say (keeping these vague to avoid spoilers where possible)...

My first romance was Wyll. I don't know how I, someone who usually goes for the characters that clearly have something deeply concerning about them, ended up with the literal prince charming of the game AND LIKING HIM. His romance was so pure, no horny, and I just... I love him and felt guilty every time I even looked at someone else (it didn't stop me from romancing my Guardian, but that's a different story).

Second run through? I went after Minthara and that relationship was so unhinged. Woman sat on the throne of her vanquished foe and she stole my entire heart. Every time she offered violence in my honor I had to stop from having a make out session.

Astarion is my next romance, but that file is still in act 1. Can't wait to see how that ends up.

I always love to chat though, so no worries! I'm just not taking non-yandere requests but otherwise everything is fair game ^-^

Oh man, I really like... want to romance Wyll because he is soooo sweet and wholesome, but in my first playthrough I found him and Karlach way too late (think I did half of the map and interactions of Act 1 without finding out how to recruit them) so he wasn't really interested in flirting with my first Tav and now with my second I kind of kindled the flame but I couldn't get myself to choose any of the monogamous LI for the tiefling party since that Tav is meant to be with Halsin (and good Astarion probably).

But I look forward to my Durge run because I will finally be able to recruit Minthara there ♥ I love her so much because I am a bit biased towards Drows in general, but I am not sure if I will date her since even before starting to play, I learned that with Ascended!Astarion you can get some special dialogue if you take over the brain and I kinda want that for my Durge. Maybe I'll need to go for a fourth run at this point because I really like Minthara, she's the better 'mean' character in my opinion, sorry Lae'zel >-<

Honestly, I wish I could date everyone lol. I just want to have all the romances at once but I also like that it's realistic and you can't just be in a relationship with everyone in camp, lol.

What made you ship it?

2. What are your favorite things about the ship?

A love that heals. The way Eowyn turns from despair and her hopeless infatuation with Aragorn (or rather, the life that she might have with Aragorn), and instead of longing for glory and death in battle, she sees a future full of light and hope and growing things, a future where she settles down in a garden with a man who is not and never will be a king. The way Faramir looks on her, understands her, and is touched by her despair, rather than turning away from it.

3. Is there an unpopular opinion you have on your ship?

Hmm...I don't think so? Farawyn seems to be a pretty popular ship, at least in my circles. Maybe my unpopular opinion is that I ship it, but I'm not feral about it XD

Fëanor x Nerdanel - I ship it,

but I have literally no thoughts about them, sorry ^^' Other than that Feanor is a jerk and Nerdanel deserves better (because just about everyone deserves better than Feanor). I ship it because it's canon (and obviously it must have been a functional marriage, see: seven sons), but I don't, like...have strong feelings about it. (Does that go against the definition of "shipping"?)

Anidala - Ship It

What made you ship it?

This is another case of me mostly shipping it just because it's canon ^^' While I find a lot of their interactions kind of cringey in the movies (more due to the writing than anything else), I've found that they can be very sweet and wholesome in fanfiction. So the moral of the story, I guess, is that these characters work really well together in the right hands, and I'm more or less excited about shipping them depending on who's in charge.

2. What are your favorite things about the ship?

What Baby Novie couldn't see, back when the prequel trilogy was first coming out and she was too busy gagging over just about every romance she came across, was that Anakin and Padme are actually very well suited to each other. Yes, they end up in a very problematic place, but that's exacerbated by Palpatine's influence. I guess we'll never know for sure what would have happened without that, but it would at least have given them more breathing room to actually work through their problems with communication, Anakin's fears of losing those important to him, etc.

All that's to say, when the Dark Side isn't mucking things up, they make a very good team, bringing very different insights and experiences to the table as well as a lot of compassion and support for each other. I think that's sweet.

3. Is there an unpopular opinion you have on your ship?

...I've been wracking my brains, and I honestly can't think of any. I don't have a whole lot of opinions on them to start with, and most of those are fairly generic.

I'm still on this, I'm sorry

It's not the minipix I hate- It's what they represent.

The minipix, minipix 7 in particular, is fine. They're doing their job and they're wholesome enough. Their design still sucks. The creepy floating head with arms combo is still innately hideous to me no matter how many little uwu facial expressions you give them, but the way they're characterized, they're fine.

What I don't like about them is that they completely negate a lot of Pixal’s character. For a while now, pixal has been ignored by the writers. Her role as a side character has been more and more confirmed despite her being on the team full time. Her main contribution is that she creates vehicles and mechs and the such. She repairs technology. Cool. But with the introduction of the minipix, that too is essentially taken away from her. Her whole thing was that she was always busy building something new. And now it turns out she wasn't even doing that. It's the minipix doing it. Pixal used to dominate bad guys as samurai x, but in episode 15, she can't do that anymore. The minipix, apparently not even designed to fight, fight for her. Sure, pixal made the mini pix, but outside of that, she is completely inactive. Pixal has already been reduced to robotic side kick, and they've now given her her own robotic side kick that actively outshines her. She's being replaced by her own invention narratively, with the only role of hers that hasn't been taken over being 'love interest'. And we all know how empowering that is for female characters. I mean, Nya has essentially taken away her samurai x role for crystalized, coming in on narrative beats where Pixal would have traditionally in her new giant mech, so literally, love interest is all pixal has left.

The one pixal side plot in crystalized? It's centered around Zane. The big moment everyone talks about? Literally season 3 rehash. That's what she gets. And don't get me wrong, I loved it all, but it would be nice if she had something to do that wasn't Zane related.

The moment at the end of episode 15 where minipix 7 saves most of the team is kinda cute and sweet. But wouldn't it have been more impactful if an actual established character got to do that? If pixal got to prove her value to the team, and get a moment of actual regret and conflict when she can't find nya? Give skylor a chance to contribute and show her value even when she doesn't have powers? Let wu show his devotion to his team? Have nya save the others in a self sacrificial move to make the hastey fake out death more meaningful? Anything? The minipix are actively distracting from any actual character development our already established characters could be getting.

To me (again, to me, this part particularly is very debatable), it reads like they didn't know what to do with pix's character, they were getting bored with her, and so they decided to make her a fun likeable sidekick. And it seems like kinda a slap in the face, because there's so much else you could do with this character, but they just can't see it, or they don't want to, or they see all that potential as disposable. Like really? Is this the best you could come up with? You refuse to give her any more depth than you already have, you refuse to look at her in any sort of meaningful light, and so instead you slap this stupid side plot onto the side of her character where she gets to be even more of an indirect help than she was before. Great. Thanks. This is just what I wanted for this character.

The thing that characterizes minipix 7 is that they aren't built to fight, but they go out of their way to save and help the team. They don't talk, and are made to be ignored, but they have a sweet heart and are trying to do their best, and in doing so rise above everyone's expectations. That's fine characterization, but that's also... pixal! We already have that character! It's pixal! Pixal wasn't built to fight! Pixal's trying her best to help the team! Pixal’s often ignored and not especially talkative! Pixal needs this character development! The minipix are just redundant! At most, all they are at this point is a cute little side kick character, but despite already having that in the form of the chicken which would presumably also have a close bond with pixal the minipix, as previously covered, aren't even cute. So what's the point? Really, what is the point here?

Yeah, minipix 7 is likable enough in show, but that's because she's literally a copy of pixal. And they can't even get one pixal right, so I'm really not eager to see this fun size clone.

The minipix themselves aren't bad, but their emblematic of the writing problems that have plauged the women of the show, pixal in particular, for years now. Now, luckily they didn't saturate the second half of the season- thank goodness minipix 7 wasn't shoved in the middle of the pixane angst. But they didn't really do anything to make me feel any different about them. Maybe minipix 7 will get a redesign and its own unique personality one day and I'll love them. Who knows? But right now, I'm stuck feeling irrationally angry at these ugly little robots, even though it isn't even personally their fault.

It's not the minipix I'm mad at, it's the writers.

Oh no, you gave me another hard one! I guess this is going to be another long one, hahaha, get ready.

As for who my favorite Belcher is, that is so tough, almost too tough for me to answer because that changes for me every day, and I love all of the Belchers for very different, specific reasons. Tbh, I relate to all of them on some level. However, if I HAVE to choose, I will choose two, because I am still that indecisive.

I have to go with Linda as one because of her endless optimism and her constant singing spouts, because who hasn't wanted to break out into song like her every once in a while? Honestly, her outros for the show are the best. The one for "Wharf Horse" Part One? COME ON. She is just THAT girl, and she knows it--she is hilarious, she's honestly quite pretty (gotta love her in that blue dress she wore in "An Indecent Thanksgiving Proposal") and when you have her affection, she's with you for life, and will go to the ends of the earth for you. She will literally help you hide the evidence of a murder and go on the run for you, she is THAT loyal. Like, seriously, she planned what she would do to help Bob if he ever murdered Teddy, oh my god. And even just her support for the smaller things, like helping Bob with his dream to run the restaurant (okay, maybe this doesn't count as SMALL, but still). She is ALWAYS there to help him have a little light in his life when he needs it. She's always down to have a little fun and spice things up--I mean, who else would come up with "sexy cooking" and a "strip tease" on Valentine's Day? She's so freaking giving, to the point where it's even a detriment to her, as seen in "Terminilator II: Terminals of Endearment", where she let her mom walk all over her because thought that's what she needs to do as their daughter, which is not the case (I'm really glad Bob got upset about this for her, but I really wish she'd actually seen how terrible her parents are). I love all of her little quirks, and she is totally someone I would want to marry or at the very least be friends with irl. I think my Bisexuality is showing with this one, haha.

My second Belcher whom I love will probably be a much less popular opinion. I almost chose Tina for this one, but honestly, I have to go with Gene. He's the Belcher kid who's the most similar to Linda, so I guess that makes sense. I do sorta get why he's not everyone's favorite, but I just can't help but have the biggest soft spot for this guy. His jokes/one-liners are consistently funny, and he always provides the best levity when a scene needs it ("Nature boner!"). Plus, I really relate to his adoration of music even though he's actually not even good at it. Also, just him questioning his love of music was just super interesting overall. But his being objectively not great at playing chords doesn't even matter, because of his sheer passion--and it's this passion that led him to create the BEST songs in the entire show. I mean, "Electric Love"? "Work Hard or Die Trying, Girl?" "Turkey, I Need You Beside Me?" You love to see it. These all came from his unadulterated love for music, and I think that's kind of beautiful. I also relate a lot to his love of food, especially during the episode "Diarrhea of a Poopy Kid", where "Turkey, I Need You Beside Me" came from. I mean, I'm the kind of person who pays extra close attention to expiration dates and would never eat expired food (one of my pet peeves is actually when people say expiration dates are a myth), but the fact that all he wanted throughout the episode was to enjoy some of his dad's cooking with his family together on Thanksgiving is just... yeah, I feel that. It's also just so wholesome. Speaking of wholesomeness, I don't know, Gene just feels a little wholesome to me. Besides Tina, he's the nicest of the kids, and usually, despite his non-sequiturs and jokes, he just wants to do right by people, especially people like his dad, which he outright says in "Best Burger". Just him wanting Bob to be proud of him and not see him as a screw-up is so 🥺

Okay, this is already super long, oh god. Onto my ten favorite side characters!

1.) Gonna start out with Sergeant Bosco. I recently watched a compilation of him and remembered how much I love this guy, he's just so freaking funny. I love how he's a cop who's super incompetent and still gets the job done somehow--he's terrible yet great at his job, which is amazing. Especially loved how he tried to give advice on how Linda should do speed-dating in "My Fuzzy Valentine", and then almost arrested Linda for stealing his gun. And just his entire role during "Bob Day Afternoon", trying to take the phone from a screaming Louise, pffffft.

2.) Gotta mention Nat the Limo Driver! Mainly because she's LGBTQ+ and that's wonderful, love that for her. She hasn't appeared that often at all, but the few appearances she's made have been pretty great. I loved seeing her try to win her ex-girlfriend back, and her being super nice and trying to help find that darn ring in the waterpark during "The Ring (But Not Scary)". Also just the fact that she casually was transporting a snake to the aforementioned ex-girlfriend is hilarious.

3.) Regular-Sized Rudy, my beloved! He's so precious all around, I love him and everything about him. I adore how he's such an antithesis of Louise, being pretty much everything one would expect a typical fourth-grader is like, with the added bonus of unfortunately having asthma. He probably only gets a point taken away from being obsessed with Chloe Barbash, but it's fineeeeeeeee. I find the fact that he's a child of divorce super interesting as well, I don't think it'll ever get super explored, but some more on that would be cool, specifically how it's affected him mentally. He's definitely the kind of friend that Louise needs. Also shoutout to his stuffed flounder, Pancake.

4.) I have to acknowledge Gayle Genarro, Linda's younger sister. We all know Gayle. We all love to hate Gayle. Okay, hate is probably too strong a word, but she is just such an enigma of a human being that I kind of love it. Every time she's used, she's so funny and completely freaking unhinged. Sometimes it's hard to believe she and Linda are sisters, and other times it makes perfect sense. I love her saying that Linda is her "best friend and mortal enemy" in "The Pumpkinening". Honestly, that might be my favorite episode she's in. Well, besides maybe "Topsy" or that episode where she helped get Louise a filling at the dentist (I think it's "The Kids Run Away"?). But I just really like her in "The Pumpkinening" because of how close she and Linda are shown to be, and how she admits to actually loving Linda at the end. It's surprisingly a super sweet moment for this otherwise crazy, but lovable character. Everything about her and Mr. Business is top tier.

5.) Zeke! I don't know, there's something about this boy that's really grown on me over time, I want to give him some appreciation. His way of talking and his voice are so recognizable, and I love it, and I can't really explain why? But yeah, if Tina can't get with Jimmy Jr., I might just vote for her and Zeke to be a thing. I think that ship is actually getting to me, but I don't know yet. Anyway, I think we should learn more about his family history because it actually sounds really complicated and sad, yet interesting? Gotta love how much he adores his grandma and step-mom, Cheryl, that's really sweet. And him eventually being the mad pooper for Tina in "Broadcast Wagstaff School News" was great. Ooh, and learning that he has a perfect palate in "Bob and Deliver" was also great.

6.) You gotta love Teddy. He's Teddy, everyone's favorite iconic handyman (side note, that commission you did of him and Teddiursa the Pokémon was so adorable and perfect)! I NEED to know the backstory of how he met Bob and Linda, and how he fell in love with Bob's burgers. And also how it's possible that he STILL thinks their last name is Burger. He and Kathleen are actually a very sweet couple, and he's just a very loving person in general. Like Linda, he's so loyal until the end and will do ANYTHING for Bob and his family and the restaurant, even if he does get on their nerves from time to time. However, it's all out of pure love and respect for the restaurant. He's just so genuinely invested in all their lives, it can get a little weird sometimes, but for the most part, it's wholesome as heck. Love how he also got invested in the whole storyline Linda made up for the raccoons in their alley. And how he stood up for Tina when he babysat them in that one episode.

7.) Mr. Fischoeder is just... what a guy. I just saw the new April Fool's Day episode, and it made me love him even more. He's always hilarious and iconic all around, I mean, how can you not appreciate him? He doesn't seem like a great person to have as your Landlord, but just as a person, he's great. His rivalry with Felix will always be a great staple of the show, and the way he was so chill about almost dying at Felix's hands in the two-part Season 4 finale is so great. How many times has Felix attempted murder on him for him to be so calm about it? Just his random ideas in general, like in "The Oeder Games" and "To Bob, or Not to Bob" are great, as well as his overall presence. I will always love his singing in "Topsy". His Christmas song about Bourbon is top-tier, as is his outro song about being put into a volcano after he's gone so he can stay around in some sort of way.

8.) Okay, fine, I want to acknowledge Mr. Frond, too. Is he a terrible guidance counselor? Well, yes. But is he hilarious? Also yes. That brief time he dated Gayle was so strange yet so entertaining. That one scene where he made that poor kid, Nicholas, admit his deepest darkest secret because he wanted people to say if the hurricane was caused by "something bad they did"?? Oh my lord. His interactions with Louise will always be gold, especially when that one exchange where he says "You're in trouble" and Louise tells him to "Drink more cranberry juice" (Not "Urine Trouble!" >:( ). Also, his entire role in the "My Butt Has a Fever" short is perfection in terms of comedy. Him getting THAT upset over the song only to end up with it stuck in his head too and humming it later? Yup.

9.) Ms. Labonz doesn't have the right to be so funny. Why is she so funny? God. I love how she's just done with everyone 24/7, especially the aforementioned Mr. Frond, and her role in "Touch of Eval(uations)" is actually really nice. I love her telling Louise that she knows Louise is smart and capable, and just needs to apply herself more, and it ending with her getting that brand new parking spot is actually pretty well deserved. Also, she is definitely a heavy smoker. Might want to get your lungs checked out, Ms. Labonz, no offense.

10.) Consider this last space a tie between Hugo Habercore and Jimmy Jr. I couldn't go through this list without Hugo, because even though he is terrible (come on, man, chill for a second, let the Belchers live their lives in peace), man is he funny. His role in the pilot episode "Human Flesh" is iconic in and of itself, his lines are so quotable there. I'm honestly super curious about how he met Linda, and what their relationship was like while it was still going on. I'm also curious about how he became a health inspector and how he met Ron. Is it weird that I almost want him and Ron to have something going on? It sounds so random, and it is, but I don't know, he just needs someone to be with to get over Linda and be a happier/better person, and I like their dynamic. He did have that girl he went on a blind date with in "Romancing the Beef", but she's never seen or mentioned again. As for Jimmy Jr., this was a tough call. There were so many people I wanted to mention but couldn't (I mean, the Pesto twins, Courtney, Jocelyn, Mort, MARSHMALLOW--I'm so sorry I didn't put you on the list, Marshmallow) but I decided to go with Jimmy Jr. Your appreciation for him is rubbing off on me. The guy definitely needs to get better at actually committing (he IS at his worse in "V For Valentine-Detta") and I don't know if I want him to be the one for Tina, I don't think he should, but I don't know, whenever he has a genuine interaction with Tina, it just... ah. It kinda gets to me. It makes me wish he were better so they could actually just be a couple. Lord knows Tina has been wanting him long enough. Seriously girl. But yeah, I love his dancing and his general weird-but-doesn't-care-what-others-think-of-him vibe. Like in the movie when he tried to get a chicken nugget in his mouth just so he could say he did it. That's peak comedy. I love his role whenever he's in an episode, especially in "What About Job?" when Tina made him the villain just because he refused to share gum with her--he also is just a very entertaining villain. I feel like he's so close to being someone who Tina could be with, but is never right there. Oh well.

Side note: Him asking Tina on a genuine frozen yogurt date in the April Fool's Day episode is actually so sweet, what the heck.

talking of s2, the way marco is the ONLY person diego has NEVER hurt or betrayed. like it's one of the things that gets me the most about them, the way that even in his worst moments diego loved and cared for marco enough to do his goddamn best to keep him out of his mess

Anyway, her name is Isabelle Vennings and I only realised later she looked (in my mind) like a child of Athena (iykyk). She has blonde hair and grey eyes. Isabelle is a lesbian with an epic sense of style. Ellie is the first one to find out about them and she's just like "oh. oh alright then. do our parents know?" Because you know safety concerns and shit.

She ends up running away from home because unfun parents and heterosexual marriage pressure and goes to live with her cousins. There is some queer shit going on there too and like...is her cousin's flatmate just that 👀 Anyway they agree to keep her. That's where she meets Rachel. I'm not quite sure of the details there yet but we'll get there.

Rachel calls her Iz or Izzy btw. Very important information. All in all, Rachel's family likes her and she's a nice girl who deserves happiness

My little heart gets so happy thinking of them in a modern AU. They meet at a science fair...I mentioned I hc Rachel as a science kid right? They were all supposed to give out these stickers to everyone who visits their stalls but that proved kind of hard for Rachel who kept on staring at the blonde girl with the physics model. Joe Goldberg, what a man. So I'm going to write about my feelings about the book and some comparisons with the series. You made me obsessed with a series that have inner monologues that narrate the show. I think it's best when you can see the character acting and also hear what they're thinking. It makes you understand their decisions and reasoning for certain actions and why they do what they do. Chapter 1 is a classic opening and it's amazing I can't fault it, it's when he first sees Beck and I know this may be tapped but I wonder if any guy thinks about me like that with our interactions. You can see already how fascinated he is with her and I love how he talks to her in his head, it's sweet but of course, meant to come across as creepy. In the book, I find it more realistic how Beck and Joe's relationship is rocky and they're not together as much as they were in the series. I think the book really shows how emotionally unavailable Back really was and how Joe is obsessed with her, he literally dealt with her absence well for someone whos a psycho. Also, what's up with Beck and emails? Who even emails. I don't understand why that was even a thing and was even a character trait of hers. She's obsessed with posting things online yet she rarely texts anyone. Anyway Beck is a loser and she wasn't that interesting anyway but maybe I'm being a hater because Love was my favorite love interest of Joe's. Joe was more harsh and scary in the book, even though I was imagining Penn the whole time it was kinda hard for me to read half the stuff he was saying. The sexual element was exciting but also too much at times but its Joe's thoughts and I found them funny and scary at the same time. I wonder what book Joe looks like because there wasn't too much description of what he looked like but I wish there was some sort of description of him. Penn is the perfect Joe but I wonder who else could fit the role? I just know he's handsome and it's acknowledged a lot in the book by others. He did bag Beck and Amy and omg how could I forget Karen MINTY? I loved Karen from the series but I also enjoyed her in the book too. She had a lot of character and was less sweet and wholesome than the series Karen. Book Karen was wild, the complete opposite of Joe and Beck. She was cool and he spoke of her disgustingly tbh. Benji I don't care too much for him, I never have for me he's irrelevant but I get why he's there. Everyone has a Benji. The guy who lies and manipulates the relationship when he doesn't even give a shit about you really. It made her more human and relatable to have a Benji. Nicky was also so much more interesting in the book. In the series, I didn't understand Joe's hate for him that much and didn't understand who Nicky was. I loved when Joe had access to the tapes and he read them all, it allowed me to understand his and Becks' relationship so much more because in the series it was a bit random and just plopped there and it never made sense to me how they even started to like each other. There was also a few chapters where Joe was following Nicky, seeing how he lived, and even tried to kill him but he was saved because Beck messaged Joe. I love those chapters too because it just shows how disgusting Joe is and is literally using his spare time, energy, and life to follow a man who doesn't even know the real him. I also loved the chapters when Beck was in the cage. You get convinced that he might actually let her out of the cage and they could be happy together but of course, as anyone would do Beck tried to escape. Her death was a bit traumatising. One minute this guy crying because he thinks he accidentally killed her and then he does it for real and is super angry. Not to forget he literally shoved book pages down her throat like why Joe. Wasnt choking her enough what was the need. He's so entitled as well but good for him for having self-respect I guess. I found the chapter where Beck finds the 'Box' underwhelming as hell. In the series it was so suspenseful and scary.
