Company I work for was advised by an SEO agency to do a 301 for all the right reasons, on a high ranking page.

Around the end of December, the page was redirected with a 301 (not sure how the redirect was done, but in GSC when searching the old URL, it shows the redirect is at least pointing where it should be for canonicalization)

Since then, the page in question has been in free fall for SERPs, started out on page 1, now approaching page 3 and falling.

I didn’t manage the process, page fell off page 1 and marketing director was asking questions, I manage marketing for a different channel but know some tech seo so I said I’d help look into it.

This is a pretty big website/brand, lots of traffic a day/month, there’s a lot of content in their blog but that’s on a Wordpress instance under its own directory, the page in question is on one of the start URLs directly off the homepage, and is associated with a keyword that’s very popular, competitive, and contextually related to the brand.

I know the transfer of page rank isn’t immediate, but this feels like something may be off. The 301 was done around Christmas, and the page is still dropping.
