every five entries, i will look into a significant (not always a masterpiece) album from the past (totally not a stolen idea). today we're going to talk about lil yachty's album lil boat 3.5.

lil boat 3.5 marks an interesting end to the lil boat trilogy. the two first album, lil boat 1 and 2, were an unexplainable mess during my first glance of listening, but i may not go further talking about this because i haven't got a full experience with the two pieces yet. to be honest, lil boat 3.5 is a little bit underrated, and i mean a little bit because the album is more tolerable than the two first albums, but still in a messy and unpolished fashion.

please note that i'm rating lil boat 3.5, which is the deluxe version of the original album lil boat 3. 8 new songs were added in the deluxe bundle of lil boat 3.5, they are alright, but it doesn't improve the overall quality of the album that much.

the new production style improves the album by a decent amount, and fortunately for me, it just really fits my taste alright. the production was the thing that hooked me up, but it also was the thing i feel gray about, because its kind of repetitive. the production is very energetic and fun to listen, its so crazy it made me dumbfounded, but is a hot mess sometimes.at least they can make the retro-ass synth better? but hey they hooked me up so thats a point.

this is yachty philosophy in lil boat 3.5: guest-list in front and im in the back. every got a great spotlight in the verse, except for oliver tree because how would you even let him in your album, yachty?

overall, the new album is interesting and tasty to bite the least, but that's only in my opinion. in a retrospective view, the album is yet quite messy and tasteless, and goofy, like on crack. its not boring thoguh even so its an career-defining album from the artist and will lie in his legacy, and yes it will be an interesting one.

this album may not be in your favorites, but it will be in my 'wtf is this bullshit i love this' list.

underrated gem(s): lil diamond boy - its a criminal fact that this song is so unpopular, LIKE ITS SO GOOD, t.d - every guest ate and left no crumbs, if there is crumbs it is prob lying on lil yachty deadass, westside - no comment its just not bad and not not good.

tracks that i rec listening: flex up - hello lgbtq community especially the lesbian couples from the ghetto who is a rage rap fan, coffin - i really like this repeating and hard hitting beat into the verse, charmin, just how i'm feelin', in my stussy's, top down - roblox sim game ahh beat idk, split/whole time - i went so insane when the smooth transition happened SKJDKJF, pardon me - this song will always be catchy asf, demon time, can't go, oprah's bank account - love this and drake maybe uhhhhhhhh, range rover sports truck, lemon head - throughout the song is a repetitive sample that plays like you're using that one electronic somewhat midi piano on garage band that plays the sample in tune when played.

worst track: certified - the synths are horrible, there are tracks as rubbish as this but it is explainable to be on top of this monstrosity

overall score 6.3/10 - this is all opinion so pls no hate

O) Father Lagi, a priest whose church collapsed into a skink hole after we visited it. We offered him a job in recompense, though by some of the conversations we've had, he's pitty chill in general. Also he embezzled like all of the church's coffers, so that's funny

P) Dahlver-Nar, one of the many souls that take up residence inside of ale's body. Though he's a bit more permanent. He helps out and gives advice alongside some skick-ass powers.

what i ate in toronto last week

felt like food blogging hehe

Day One

The first thing I got was a tea and donut bites from a new donut stand in the Portland airport. Yum! Then I remembered I had a long day of traveling ahead of me and went back to the Tillamook store for some real sustenance. Honestly I thought a chive biscuit egg sausage cheese sandwich would be a slam dunk but it wasn't that good.

Donuts: 8/10 (had them over the course of 3 days)

Sandwich: 5/10

Even on long flights, Air Canada only offers paid options. I got this BBQ chicken wrap for $11 CAD or something. Tortilla to filling ratio was bad but it did the job. 4.5/10

I got into the hotel late at night and just decided it wasn't worth the effort to get more food, so thats all for day one lol

Day 2

Met with Suyasha and had Cafe Landwer! Was starving and it took forever for the food to come out. This is the Mediterranean shakshuka. Bread was so fluffy. The presentation is gorg but i wasn't obsessed with the tomato-y sauce I guess. 7/10

In the afternoon I got a matcha at the library cafe where we worked (it was average, so I guess 7/10 because me love matcha). Later, I went to Fuwa Fuwa Pancakes for pre-dinner dessert. I'm glad I went when I did, because they cook everything fresh, and the wait was long even when I was the only customer. So fresh, fluffy, and refreshing - not too sweet. Yum! 9/10

After that, some folks told me they were getting dinner, so I said I'd join assuming I'd get an appetizer. Well, they decided on all you can eat hotpot, so that was unfortunate lol. We had a good time, food was good but not really noteworthy. I tried a mussel, gross! Also ate a pepper wrapped in beef that had been soaking in the spicy side for too long. That shit HURTED. 5/10

Day 3

I needed something fast to keep me going before the wedding - sadly the only thing I could walk to in time was McDonalds. The tzatziki seasoning was bad and basically ruined my fries. Chicken wrap was just whatever. 3/10

Unpictured: Shirley's wedding food! I forgot to take a pic sadly. I had chicken, kimchi mac and cheese, and other things I don't exactly remember, but it was all yummy! Plus the signature cocktails were really great. 8/10

Day 4

Niagara falls tour with Alyssa, Hwee, Jen, and Alex(?)! we shared between 4 people. It was steaming hot and yummy. I love cheese curdsss. 7.5/10

While the group went to go on the boat, I got a prosciutto goat cheese salad and a cocktail at the Queen Alexandra. Cocktail was a bit watery and salad was 90% arugula with not enough dressing - but the point was I could see the falls from my seat and they had ceiling fans (IT WAS SO HOT) 6.5/10

When we got back from the tour finally (took 3 hours to get back in traffic), we got Mr. Tonkatsu! The katsu was really flaky and good. 8/10

We also went and got asian shaved ice after this - one with red bean paste and one with almond and soybean. i wasnt really into these so i only had a few bites.. i miss hawaiian shaved ice fr. oh yeah i got some baked walnut balls here too, they were ok, would be better if they were warm. 3.5/10

Day 5

gochujang mushroom tofu banh mi at rustle & still cafe.. OH MY GOD. spicy, creamy, a lil crunch from the pickled carrots and peanuts. i might try to replicate it, it was everything. 10/10

chicken biryani from rikki tikki, with Alyssa, Shendy, and Matt. another HUGE W meal... spicy, scrumptious, perfect. the rice had pomegranate seeds in it which was such a nice little sweet crunch. it came with yogurt sauce which i adored with the spicy meal. im drooling thinking about it. 10/10 my only complaint is that i like more pillow-y naan

Day 6

Lunch was leftover Rikki Tikki!

Forgot to take a pic before it was gone, but I had a chai latte at the cafe we worked at today. It was meh, 4/10. at least the cafe had ok wifi and good a/c lol

After work, I started wandering around and went to a matcha cafe called Tsujiri. All the stuff on the menu looked amazing but I got a peach yogurt matcha frappe. It was so freaking good and those big slices of peach on top were yummy too. 9/10

While walkin' I had to stop at this Vietnamese cafe because the cake looked so yum. And it was! Fresh mango with layers of shortcake, mango pudding, and cream. i just wish it was a little smaller so I hadn't felt so bloated from eating it lol (it had to stay cold and it was a hot day so... I had to just eat it) 8.5/10

For dinner we went to a Jamaican/Chinese fusion place called Patois with Shirley, Jeremiah, Alyssa, guy who I forgot name, and his old WoW guild leader or something haha. We got a "feast for two" to share with the table, plus pork belly yakitori, becuase some of us weren't hungry. I didn't eat much but my fave was the yakitori. The rest was just ok. 5.5/10

Day 7

For my last day Suyasha and I went to Tibetan Cafe and went shopping afterwards. The reviews for this place were so high, but we were both underwhelmed by these "momos" (chicken dumplings). The dipping sauce was tomato-y but overall it was a bit bland. Suyasha is Nepalese and she said this was low-end by her standard lol. I'll try Tibetan food another time. 6/10

This was the first canned diet coke I had all week and man, how sweet it tastes - new jeans

At the airport I shared a snack of poutine and a maple moscow mule with Shirley :3 This poutine wasn't as good as the one I had before. Moscow mule was nice, the maple flavor was mild. 5.5/10

And yes, to give me the energy to travel until 3am EST, I got another BBQ chicken wrap on the plane. So nice I had it twice. Jk, it was not that nice, but actually this time it had a better filling to tortilla ratio lol. 5/10

Owned: Yes Page count: 207 My summary: Times are tough for Flavia and her family. Her father’s ship was wrecked at sea, leaving them bankrupt. To get them out of Ostia, her father sends her and her friends away to their friend Pliny the Younger’s villa - but rumours of treasure in a nearby shipwreck might save them all. But Lupus has other ideas of what to use the treasure for... My rating: 3.5/5

Back into Roman Mysteries, and it’s time for a story about Lupus! The character, not the disease. Throughout the early books, there is an enduring mystery about Lupus and exactly what happened to him. His tongue was cut out, and he was abandoned on the streets of Ostia, but nobody knew why and Lupus wasn’t telling. Well, here’s our opportunity to find out. The thing I’m noticing as I progress through these books is how dark they are for a series aimed at the 8-12 market. It shouldn’t surprise me - I’ve always been drawn to such media - but Lawrence doesn’t really sugarcoat how brutal life in Ancient Rome could be, even for children. We see that with Nubia, whose fate could have been horrible had Flavia not been there, and now we’re getting Lupus’ side of it.

Lupus is the son of a Greek sponge diver, whose mother was lusted after by his uncle, a slave dealer. His uncle killed Lupus’ father, said he killed his mother, cut his tongue out, and abandoned him in Ostia. This explains something of the dual nature of Lupus’ character - he’s seen to be at once a cheeky, mischievous kid (he’s the youngest of the four) but also have this dark core to him. Lupus spends this book trying to get the treasure so he can hire an assassin to kill his uncle. When that fails, he tries to do the job himself. He’s, like, nine. Poor kid. One thing I like about this is how Lawrence walks the balance between this darker material and being appropriate enough for her audience. Ancient Rome was a horrible place to live, and while this series doesn’t go into the gory details of every terrible thing that could happen, it’s still interested in not sanitising this era, which I appreciate.

Meanwhile, back in Pliny the younger’s villa, there’s a love triangle going on. Everyone’s lusting after Jonathan’s sister Miriam, despite the fact that she’s betrothed to Flavia’s uncle Gaius. Not that Gaius is too quick about getting married - understandable, given that he lost his home and farm to the eruption of Vesuvius. This made me a lil uncomfortable when I read it as a kid, and feels even weirder now given that Miriam is 14 and all of her potential suitors are at least five years older. Gaius is in his thirties! Anyway, unlike earlier love triangles centred on Miriam, this one felt a bit like padding; I get it, everyone loves Miriam, she’s the most beautiful woman to ever exist. But I’m not sure how necessary this was.

But yeah, this book’s mostly about revenge, and I really like how it showed Lupus becoming completely absorbed by the idea of revenge while still showing that he’s a kid, he’s not going to be as singlemindedly driven as an adult in his situation. There’s a balance going on in Lupus’ mind between his quest to take his uncle down versus him wanting to just live his life - as represented by the dolphins the kids swim with earlier. And in the end, he kind of gets his revenge. He doesn’t kill his uncle, but his uncle still dies in trying to get the treasure to redeem himself to Lupus, and ends up leaving his ship to Lupus. Lupus is still messed up about it, but he’s more at peace now that his uncle can’t hurt anyone. It’s a little more complex than the straightforward ‘revenge is bad’ message of some kids’ media, which I appreciate.

Im drawing Kij’s little pack of babes, but I need references, can I have a paragraph of each, appearance, personality etch? They are future canon, dont @ me! XD

Alrighty, starting from oldest to youngest (coincidentally, also left to right), we have Raza! Named after Kij’s late mentor, Raz’nek, Raza is the complete opposite of the huntress. With flaming red hair and soft orange eyes, Raza is a soft spoken, kind, mild-mannered, and studious child. She often hides away from others, preferring the company of a good book. The only friend she has around her age is Chako, who brings her out of her shell and explores her off the walls ideas. She wants to be either a witch doctor or a follower of the loa when she gets older.

Raza often clashes with her younger (by about 3.5 years) sister, Cego. Although short for her age, her limbs are long compared to her body, earning her the nickname of Kij’s “Lil’ Monkey” (much to her annoyance). In addition to the striking similarities between Ma and daughter (yellow hair, intense orange eyes, same skin tone, etc), Cego wants to follow in her Ma’s footsteps to become a huntress. Cego is what I like to think of as the universe’s revenge for Kij’aza being a pain in the arse as a kid.  To others, she’s sweet and easily trusting, often getting herself into crazy situations as a result. However, she is by far the most temperamental of the three, throwing epic tantrums when upset and holding some long-winded grudges. She also grabs whatever critters she can find and tries to take care of them, as well as foolhardily running into trouble. Loa, Kij can’t catch a break with her!

Between her constant clashes with Raza (often just trying to get her to go out and play while being a bit too...Kijjie about it) and Cego’s inheritance of the Kij energy, it’s a miracle she ended up with another child and not doing something stupid. However, Kij’s really glad she decided to have Zol. He may only be about a year old in this picture, but his calm temperment stays with him into childhood. With wavy, green hair growing brighter with age and big ol’ orange eyes, he’s a Ma Boi if I’ve ever seen one. He’s an absolute sweetheart, curious, and always wanting to make new friends. Zol unites his older sister and Ma in protecting him, much to his irritation (”I can ‘andle maself, Ma!” *Cego laughs, helping her Ma dangle the girlie that broke his heart over the side of a boat* “Just let me ‘andle ‘er, ‘mkay?” “MA! PUT ‘ER DOWN!”)
