one thing i never hear people talk about ever is how expensive makeup is, not just for ppl who use makeup to look conventionally attractive but also for ppl who wanna experiment with it & use it in unconventional ways, cause in the end you’re still buying pretty much the same products, at least products from companies that are on the same tier as each other. I really like the limecrime venus II pallette. It’s been around for ages, and i would love to get one before it goes out of style, but I probably wont be able to, cause it costs as much as any other quality eyeshadow pallette, so I almost don’t even really see the point in buying it bc I might as well be buying some MAC lipsticks or something else from another company that makes high-end products but isnt as ethical/“Progressive”. I guess what I’m saying is that yes, makeup can be an art form, but it’s one that’s only really available to people with a lot of money, which makes it hard for me to consider it a progressive thing, bc cheap paint still sticks to the canvas, but cheap makeup rarely does the job if you’re trying to use it in a “subversive” way. I guess this is mostly just an angry post about how disappointed I am in the shitty pigmentation of drugstore eyeshadow pallettes. But I also feel immensely guilty & stupid & vain whenever I buy makeup, even if it’s just “the bare essentials” (mascara or a brow pencil that i “need” because I ran out) because over time, even drugstore makeup adds up, and I could be spending that money on gas or rent, but “having fun” with makeup is supposed to be a feminist act, so why shouldn’t I be able to participate? I guess what I’m trying to say it that I have a love-hate relationship w makeup for a lot of reasons, one of which being that I’m poor, and I’m suspicious of girls who claim to also be poor, but who have all the Cool Weird makeup i want, and i get even more suspicious when they act like it’s a Feminist thing to be Into makeup
