late but here were my september reads!! it was a terrible month for reading.

gonna be honest. did not really like those books by kate atkinson. the first one was okay, like it wasn't great but it had enough redeeming features i'd give it a generous 3 stars. the SECOND ONE. it feels like i was reading that for weeks. did not like it but refused to give up on a book. it haunted me from my bedside unit. i didn't want to give it 1 star cause i did eventually finish but 2 stars is honest too high. anyway i don't normally like historical fiction it's like the one genre i avoid there are only a few exceptions i've thoroughly enjoyed so. that is probably why i rate them so low. i'm sure if you like historical fiction you'd like them

for real i neeeeeed more historical fiction that is specifically a) set in the roman Republic. what's an emperor. i don't care + i'll kill you. b) not Military historical fiction like if some is just mixed in there ok but if it's like. im a legionary and you'll never guess where i am! (the legion) i just Do Not Care. c) not like. forbidden gladiator romance. forbidden vestal virgin romance. etc. because i don't CARE. d) actually good

Queer Reads: EM Lindsey

For the fifth of Wednesday’s post, we have two sports: hockey AND baseball. 

E.M. Lindsey writes a variety of topics in the romance world, and I haven’t read nearly enough of their books. Lindsey’s books are full of really well written angst, disability rep, and trauma, with a healthy side of well-communicated kinky spice. 

The hockey books are two duos, one co-written with Marina Vivancos, and the other one solo written. While I enjoyed all of them, the West Coast Sin Bin books, Breakaway and Soft Hands, have the added bonus of being set in Denver. I love a story set in my home state. 

The baseball trilogy is also set in Denver, and features a sports world where out players are a thing (which the hockey books do too). Lindsey does hurt/comfort really well, and book 3 has a fantastic redemption arc in it. Out of the 9 or 10 baseball books I read (and attempted to read) in April, these three were definitely my favorites. 

On my to-read list of basically every other book Lindsey has written, so check them out.

She goes through a lot of shit throughout the movies and just wants to escape, she's trapped in something she has no control over and she just wants love and a family. She takes it out on other people cause that's all she's allowed to do.

She should have gotten the proper help she deserves

😍 We Could Be So Good (Cat Sebastian, author; Joel Leslie, narrator) - reread; this was one of my fave books of the year tbh; loved the setting and the characters and the vibe

😍 Bells Are Ringing (A We Could Be So Good Holiday epilogue) (Cat Sebastian) - so grateful that Cat S gifts us a holiday epilogue every year!

🥰 The Things We Hide (ThePirateStorm) - 109K, stucky no powers omegaverse/accidental mpreg with fantastic amounts of pining and a great cast of fully realized supporting characters; I fucked up my sleep schedule to finish reading this and had zero regrets.

🥰 I'd Swing With You for the Fences (nontoxic) - 86K, Schitt's Creek AU with MLB player Patrick and David (who's still mostly canon David) - very warm and sweet and absolutely DELIGHTFUL

🥰 Third Eye (Felicia Day, author; full voice cast) - comedy fantasy audio drama about Laurel, who 15 yrs ago was the Chosen One and who…failed. Now her life is sad but she gets a 2nd chance when a terrible teen (who may also be the Chosen One) cannonballs into her life. Had a lot of fun listening to this, great voice cast featuring FD, Sean Astin, Wil Wheaton, London Hughes
