Some spoilers for Rick and Morty Season 8 Episode 1, Summer of All Fears below the cut!
Ummm, is anyone else feeling like they need to look at some fluffy, cute fanfiction or art after the season premiere?
Please don't take this as me disliking Summer of All Fears, because actually the opposite is true - I thought it was a really good episode! That being said, Rick pissed me off more of the ep than he didn't, (which I think was exacerbated by Fear no Mort being on right before), and while I'm intrigued by Morty’s Evil Morty-esque actions, they also freak me the fuck out.
And while our titular duo DID have some cute moments bonding and hanging out (I loved the hardware store scene!), consider this:
1. It is pretty fucked up that Rick’s being all buddy-buddy with/so impressed by the version of Morty created by the newest trauma he's inflicted on the boy. Like, congrats on your new drinking buddy, Rick, but at what cost? I know causing Morty lasting-if-it-weren't-mindblown psychological damage wasn't Rick’s intention this time, and I don't think he realizes HOW MUCH damage he did. But still...
2. While they were having fun together at the hardware store and building the death race car, just under the surface, Morty was plotting his revenge. I will never stop thinking about this. 😭
So anyway, you know those scenes in Mort:Ragnarick where the boys are physically supporting each other while being attacked by Bigfoot? I currently need ALL the things that give off that kind of energy. Anyone else?

you know what's really funny just yesterday my contemporary history course went over the elections that brought the rise of nazism in germany and the march on Rome and violence that lead to fascism in italy. I'm really enjoying the historian experience of feeling like Cassandra from The Iliad

there's nothing quite like a dark souls game when you're really depressed. fromsoft places a hand on your shoulder and says "yeah no you're right. sometimes the whole world really is coming at you shrieking and flailing and trying to claw your face off and there is no hope in sight. what is left for us here but the deep sorrow of a magnificent beast doomed to a slow and possibly endless descent into ruin? here's a sword about it. go wild"
and then you stand there with tears in your eyes clutching your giant claymore to your chest like a lover and whisper "I. love my sword" and you do. you love that sword
#on so many levels I understand harrowhark nonagesimus. I love and hate that sword and the burden and gift it symbolizes#the duty to struggle on because you're beholden to and beheld by love still etc.#fromsoft could make a really good and really weird locked tomb game if given the chance I think. it wouldn't be what I wanted#(which lbr would be a dating sim thing. like bioware style. some gameplay but mostly Drama) but it would rock probably#dark souls#dark souls 3#I was feeling real bad so I went and borrowed ds3 from the library since it's the only one I haven't played!#thus far it's definitely my least favourite of the trilogy (longtime ds2 lover & truther logging on) but it's still a from game#it scratches the itch! I made the colossal mistake of starting with a spear and boy oh boy do I NOT have the muscle memory built#for that moveset in these games fhdsakj I was wondering if I really just sucked until I picked up a shortsword and was like 'ah!'#and then when I finally found the claymore... this is of course deeply embarrassing but I kind of teared up a little#I'm home. I'm never using a shield again. it is not the vaguely-concerned way to cower before death behind a wall of steel#I mistime a dodge roll straight into an enemy attack and eat shit as tradition and honour dictates#storywise I'm not getting anything much out of this I must admit tho I didn't expect to (I've watched all the lore vids) AND#I don't quite vibe with how linear it is or the runbacks (damn elden ring really fixed that design problem huh!) but it feels good#to slam my face into a brick wall again. the comfort of having your ass kicked and knowing that is as it should be#I am doing a little roleplaying. my girl selene. she's from irythill. she used to hang out with the same crowd as vordt and the dancer#(she in fact had a huge crush on the dancer back in the day) but like. she hung out in the lower coolness tier of the same crowd#if you see what I mean. I hate to invoke the franchise even through fanwork but my life as a background slytherin style.#selene was on the team for sure. but it was the b team. the powers that be kind of sent her off on an impossible quest#that she's been dutifully trying to complete this whole time and indeed kind of is still this linking the fire thing is just a sidequest#(selene is very hot basically well-meaning and not too bright. true hero material)#she's SO embarrassed after fighting vordt b/c she genuinely thought his name was bort this whole time#every time she meets an outrider knight she's either like 'oh my god -- KEVIN?? D:' or 'hehehehe who needs#to 'watch their footwork' now motherfucker. yeah you heard me bill'. she's going to be real sad about gwyndoline probably :(#also. I have lucatiel's armour now. oh my god. my girl. long time no see I love you. tfw no hat tho

hi im ranting (positively! this game kills me but in a good way) about breath of the wild again
i know it's controversial but i love the way the story of the game is told. because you start the game in the middle, perhaps near the end, of the story. the game is entirely through link's perspective and he wakes up knowing and remembering nothing. in turn, the player starts off knowing nothing. the past is revealed as the story goes along, and the player learns about the past and about the land as link does. there are little tidbits about hyrule and about the calamity scattered across the land. an old woman in hateno village tells you of an age of desolation that she grew up in. the travellers you see on the road are younger people because they're described by older characters as more bold, whereas the older characters grew up being told to never leave the village, it's too dangerous outside (compare this even to tears of the kingdom, where travellers are more common because the land has been safer. even older characters have left their home to travel elsewhere (not including the lurelin villagers)). battlefields are still strewn with old rusty weapons and deactivated guardians that no one but monsters will go near. myths and legends about the princess and hero have been passed down, to the point where their legitmacy is questioned and everyone has a different opinion on them.
it's environmental storytelling. it's things like seeing drawings and a bow in zelda's study and seeing a child reading a storybook with a hero that wears a blue tunic similar to link's. it's the stories that the villagers share about old myths that turn out to be true. it's the ruins scattered across the land, long since overtaken by monster camps but still unmistakably being houses that people once lived in. it's the utter lack of civilization anywhere remotely near the castle and the feeling of dread in the ruins of the town that surrounds it. it's a kingdom entrenched in its past, with no ability to move away from it until the calamity is finally defeated.
#head into the wall. i love this game so much#legend of zelda#breath of the wild#and no i dont hate totk for getting rid of the sheikah tech and replacing it with zonai tech#the zonai tech is foreign and new to the people of hyrule and theyre EXCITED about it#how many zonai researchers are there in totk vs how many sheikah researchers in botw?#people are wary of the technology that destroyed their home a century ago#and they're terrified of the guardians that still roam the land#i still hold that link likely was behind the reason why the shrine of resurrection was completely dismantled#it's kinda like majora's mask in which half of the story is in the side quests and the characters#mm had a plot yeah but it kind of accompanied the rest of the setting#link had a goal but he also had so many people to talk to#botw is similar. link has a goal in mind but he's also one to help others#and if someone literally just lost their chickens or if their husband is sick and needs medicine. he's willing to help them out#the world is just as important as the plot itself and i think i like that more#than just a linear plot which is accompanied by the world#botw totk and mm reward you for exploring#(along with some of the others like twilight princess and a link between worlds)#but it's very different i think when half of the game is about exploring#or more than half even. you have your goal but you have to get there first#and there are so many ways you can get there and so much you can encounter along the way#biting screaming crying#the bow is in zelda's room but close enough

remember when zuko betrayed aang/katara/iroh and reverted back to approval seeking behaviors/attitudes at the end of book 2 in ATLA? i feel like that’s exactly what’s happening with aziraphale.
it’s not a bad thing to want approval, to want “forgiveness” and redemption, and he’s done a TON of work trying to stay faithful to the “mission” of his station, despite all of his superiors constantly berating and looking down on him. so of course the first time in the entirety of his existence he’s being offered a chance to Make Decisions and a difference, he finds himself falling back into old habits.
fingers crossed that we get season 3, but, say if we do, aziraphale may have a similar journey zuko had in maturing and understanding that the things you’ve longed for (only cause you’ve been told that’s what you should want) isn’t necessarily what’s best for you. or perhaps you’ve outgrown the confines those things try to force you into.
breaking away from a toxic family is difficult, especially if that’s all you’ve really known. aziraphale made a questionable and heartbreaking decision, but it’s understandable. and he’s always been a stubborn one, so i’m not surprised he didn’t run back to crowley once he realized what the metatron said the “project” was.

i feel like me iding as nb doesnt fit me but also i feel like it does... like i feel nonbinary and i feel like i want to present feminine and masculine and i dont have a solid gender identity... but when people hear or think of non-binary they always push a certain image onto that nb person.
like i feel nonbinary and i like how in my head i feel towards my identity, even though i don't outwardly "project" a "nonbinary image" whatever that may be. maybe im just projecting towards myself how im expected to look because of how *i* in my head think that people expect nb people to be.

Reblogging this because the general discourse around sports and exercise is either you go to the gym and lift weight or it doesn't count as sport/exercise.
So first you have the confluence of meaning between sport and exercise and physical activity. Then you have the elimination of what "sport" means in favour of it all being "exercise". And finally "exercise" is just bodybuilding and getting thin (often symultaneously, go figure).
Moving a litle bit every day in things like going for a walk, dancing in the living room, doing light stretches, or even just running errands is physical activity. And you don't need much more. But if you do need some more, or you want to start training strength or agility, then specific exercises like the ones in this video are more than enough. And then, if all of this is boring to you but maybe doing fun things with other people or on your own that don't feel like repeating over and over the same thing would help you, that's where sports come in. Badminton, boules, nordic walking... There are a thousand and not all of them are football or require a competition level of practice.

The Benefits of LED Lighting in Residential Spaces in Qatar
In recent years, Qatar has witnessed a significant transformation in its residential lighting landscape, largely due to the adoption of Light Emitting Diode (LED) technology. This shift is driven by a combination of energy efficiency goals, environmental considerations, and the desire for modern, versatile lighting solutions. LED lighting offers a multitude of benefits that cater to the unique needs of homes in Qatar, from reducing energy consumption to enhancing aesthetic appeal.
Tumblr media
Energy Efficiency and Cost Savings
One of the most compelling advantages of LED lighting is its exceptional energy efficiency. LEDs consume significantly less power compared to traditional incandescent and fluorescent bulbs. According to the U.S. Department of Energy, residential LEDs use at least 75% less energy and last up to 25 times longer than incandescent lighting.
For homeowners in Qatar, this translates to substantial cost savings on electricity bills. The reduced energy consumption not only lowers expenses but also contributes to the nation's sustainability efforts by decreasing overall energy demand.
Longevity and Durability
LED bulbs are renowned for their long lifespan. A quality LED bulb can last between 15,000 to 50,000 hours, far surpassing the typical 1,000-hour lifespan of incandescent bulbs.
This longevity means homeowners spend less time and money on replacements and maintenance.
Moreover, LEDs are built to withstand various environmental conditions. Their robust design makes them resistant to shocks, vibrations, and external impacts, ensuring reliable performance even in the harsh climate of Qatar.
Environmental Impact
Switching to LED lighting significantly reduces the environmental footprint of residential spaces. LEDs consume less energy, leading to lower greenhouse gas emissions from power plants. Additionally, unlike fluorescent bulbs, LEDs do not contain hazardous materials like mercury, making them safer for both the environment and household occupants.
Versatility in Design and Application
LED technology offers unparalleled versatility in lighting design, allowing homeowners to tailor illumination to their specific needs and preferences.
Outdoor Lights
Outdoor lighting plays a crucial role in enhancing the safety, security, and aesthetic appeal of residential properties. LEDs are ideal for outdoor applications due to their brightness, energy efficiency, and durability. Common outdoor LED lighting solutions include:
Spike Lights: These are installed into the ground and are perfect for highlighting garden features, pathways, or architectural elements.
Underground Lighting: Also known as inground or recessed ground lights, these fixtures are embedded into the ground to provide uplighting effects, ideal for illuminating driveways, walkways, and landscaping.
String Lights: Popular for creating ambient atmospheres, LED string lights are versatile and can be used for outdoor gatherings, patios, or festive decorations.
Wall Washer: These fixtures are designed to illuminate large surfaces evenly, making them perfect for highlighting walls, facades, or expansive garden areas.
Companies specializing in lighting solutions Qatar offer a wide range of these outdoor LED products, ensuring homeowners can find fixtures that align with their design vision and functional requirements.
Indoor Lighting Solutions
Inside the home, LED lighting provides both functional and decorative benefits. The adaptability of LEDs allows for creative applications that enhance the ambiance and usability of various spaces.
Linear Lights: These fixtures offer sleek, continuous lines of light, making them ideal for modern interiors. They can be installed under cabinets, along hallways, or as accent lighting to create a contemporary aesthetic.
Wall Washers: Beyond outdoor applications, indoor wall washers can highlight artwork, textured walls, or architectural features, adding depth and interest to living spaces.
Smart Lighting Systems: The integration of LED technology with smart home systems allows for customizable lighting scenarios. Homeowners can adjust color temperatures, brightness levels, and even set schedules, enhancing both convenience and energy efficiency.
Health and Well-being
Lighting significantly influences human health and well-being. LEDs offer the ability to adjust color temperatures, which can mimic natural light cycles. This feature supports circadian rhythms, potentially improving sleep quality and overall mood. Incorporating tunable LED lighting in residential spaces allows occupants to create environments that align with their daily activities and natural biological cycles.
Economic and Environmental Benefits for Qatar
The widespread adoption of LED lighting in residential spaces aligns with Qatar's commitment to sustainability and energy efficiency. By reducing energy consumption, LEDs help decrease the national carbon footprint and lessen the strain on the power grid. This transition supports Qatar's vision for a sustainable future and can lead to economic benefits through reduced energy costs and the potential for green job creation in the lighting sector.
Conclusion
Embracing LED lighting in residential spaces offers numerous benefits, from energy efficiency and cost savings to design versatility and enhanced well-being. For homeowners in Qatar, the shift to LED technology not only meets functional lighting needs but also contributes to environmental sustainability and aligns with the nation's progressive vision. With a variety of LED options available, including outdoor lights like spike lights, underground lighting, string lights, wall washers, and indoor solutions like linear lights, residents can create illuminated spaces that are both beautiful and efficient.
