How I managed to get unlimited Internet for $25*
*There’s a few catches to it, but I’ll make this quick: if you are thinking more than one device, heavy gaming or thinking this is life in the fast lane... well, you’ll be disappointed. Also, this is from someone who used this service and I’m telling you... you’ll be unhappy.
How much do I pay for Home Internet service? $25/month for an unlimited hotspot... with a lot of catches. If you’re thinking “oh, I’m going to use this to power my entire home”... skip this post, don’t bother. You’re not going to get as much out of this, I PROMISE you.
Matter of fact, let me tell you who this post is for:
You want Internet Service for one device or you don’t mind swapping devices on this one connection.
It’s for your home connection so that you can reduce your dependence on your cell phone’s data plan when you’re home... or even when you’re out and about.
You’re not a gamer, you’re not planning on using it for heavy downloads, and you don’t mind tapping out at 5MB/s.
You don’t mind your data being slowed down at random times.
A secondary connection for when you’re outside your home and you don’t want to use public hotspots.
You truly understand “you get what you paid for”...
If you’re still reading and want to know what I’m talking about, then this is for you. It’s a system I currently use and when I’m at home, it’s my main internet connection for now. Once I move to a better place, I plan on dropping this plan as I’ll be getting something better than this.
But here’s how I did it...
1) Sign up for Visible and get the cheap R2 phone.
Visible is an Mobile Virtual Network Operator (MVNO) owned by Verizon. They will say they worked independent of them, but don’t be fooled by that. Visible is to Verizon as Metro by T-Mobile is to T-Mobile... it’s a prepaid division marketed as another company.
https://www.visible.com
Anyway, they offer one plan only... unlimited Internet, uncapped for $40 on your cell phone. Now, you can use your own cell phone, but the chances of it working with their company is low unless it’s an Apple phone. Got Apple? Great. Anything else? It’s a hit and miss. It’s best to check with them if you want to use your phone with them. But this ISN’T about that. This is about cheap Internet for your other device.
What you’ll do instead if buy their $19 R2 phone. For a budget phone, it’s subpar. I used to own Motorola’s that have more power than the R2. But it has a capable camera on it. However, the most important part is the hotspot, which it offers. We’re not interested in the features of the phone, but of the hotspot.
However, you’ll noticed that I said “$40″... so how do I pay $25/month? Well, that’s where step two comes in.
2) Find a “party”.
Visible got a family plan which is unique in a few ways. For starters, you don’t need to sign up your family. All you need to do is find 3 other people that are willing to split the bill and for each person, Visible will discount you and them by $5... all the way to $15, lowering the bill to $25. Now, what if one person in the party doesn’t pay? You don’t deal with them, the phone company do. So, you can sign up for a stranger’s “party” and not worry unless the person cancels their service... which could happen, but most likely won’t. And if they do, you can find a sub that will take their place.
Now, if you tried the service and you want to form your own party, you can do that. However, if you don’t want to find people to join and want to join someone’s party, you can via this reddit:
https://www.reddit.com/r/VisiblePartyPay/
Look through the links, login to your account and boom, you’re paying $25/month for the life of your account.
3) Get your phone and know the limits
Once you get your R2, you have to set it up with Visible. It can take a few minutes to a few hours. However, the most difficult part of the set up is... the Google account. Oh, you already have one? Then it’s not that difficult. It’s just another device you’re going to add to your account. If you already have an android phone, I suggest skipping to the parts that matter and try not to reinstall anything. You can use the phone just like your other phones, but at 8 GBs of space, you’re probably best just limiting it to just a hotspot. Set up the hotspot to your preferences and flip it on. Now, connect your device to it and voila... Internet for $25/month.
FAQ:
You can probably play some games. I played Hearthstone and some simple online games without issues. But don’t expect to play games that are graphic intense without some serious lag. For example: I use a cloud service called Shadow as a Secondary PC (long story). Even though it can run with just 5 MBs of bandwidth, it lags because the speed will not hold steady. And lagging in gaming means death. So, unless it’s low stakes, don’t treat this as a lifeline.
Yes, you can watch Netflix and stream video. If you want high quality tho, you’re probably going to struggle. DVD is the best it can do. The quality of my Netflix streaming or any streaming for that matter is top notch as I’m happy with 720p. I don’t need 1040p or even 4K.
Yes, it’s really unlimited. (peep the image below)
To prolong battery life, I plug the phone out of the charger and let it sit as any phone. Once it’s below 15%, I plug it back in and let it charge up to 100% and repeat the process. Treating it like a regular phone instead of keeping it plug in is old-fashioned, but a better way than to keep the phone plugged in 24/7. That will wear out the battery faster.
I could use it outside of my home. It’s a mobile phone, not a fixed location. So, you will have a second phone number. It’s a phone service which I use as a secondary line.
The Internet on the phone itself is faster than on another device. It’s meant to be used as a mobile phone service. I’m just retooling it.
R2 uses Android 9. The chances of it being upgraded to 10 is low.
You can hook it up to one device that is capable of using the Internet. It could be a tablet, a laptop, a desktop with a wireless networking card, or a game system for updates and download of files.
Since the phone is cheap, you can’t put insurance on it. It’s $19, brah.
I don’t carry around this phone day-to-day anymore. It’s redundant on my part since I have a more capable phone.
The phone I have now was intended to be used with this phone service, but sadly, the model wasn’t compatible. Otherwise, I would have cut my phone bill down by a lot. With that being said, I didn’t test this phone service beyond data.
I haven’t lost the ability to use the phone’s data once during my 4 months of continuous use. The only interruption was in April, where I simply stop paying for the phone bill.
Yes, there is a way to bypass the one device limit, but it requires hardware and the speed of service isn’t worth going beyond one device, so don’t do it.
Yes, Visble is okay with you using it exclusively as a hotspot.
Tumblr media
If you’re wondering why I only used 40 GBs and not skyrocket above 100 GBs, it’s for a few reasons, the major one being I have spotty Internet coverage at home and used this as a secondary line and outside during the month of February. I’m only home during the evening. But I will say this... the reason that it skyrocketed at the end of February is because I put in on a PS4 to install an update to Spiderman and system updates.
The catches:
As you already know, it’s one device per hotspot connection.
It’s another phone to manage, unless you use your own phone.
The suggested phone itself is very limited in space as well as specs. A low budget Motorola will likely have more power than this phone. So, if you do use this phone as a phone, make it a low-stakes situation or a backup.
Depending on where you live, your internet speeds may slow down during prime times.
Service seems to be a hit and miss at times.
Talking to customer support is also a hit and miss. It’s literally an app or website. No phone service, just chat support with email as a second place to catch them.
Never tested it as a full-time service. It’s only at one location.
You may pay more than $25/month if someone leaves the party, but the bill will be between $30 to $40, which is still manageable.
It’s Verizon, which means they are tricky to pin down when it comes to the Net itself.
So, if you think this is useful, you can give it a try. If this article helped you out, maybe throw some funds my way.

gif tutorial for anon!
hi everyone! an anon asked me about how i sharpen my gifs and i got a bit carried away in my answer so i decided to just turn it into a tutorial oop.
disclaimer: i’m still a beginner, so some of the stuff i do might be a bit weird! also, two of the “tricks” i use i did not come up with/figure out on my own, i linked to the posts of the original creator’s in the step.
so my settings do vary for each gif, but in this tutorial i just go through all the general steps i use for each gif i make, so hopefully it’s at least a bit helpful to someone!!! there’s a lot of images bc i’m a visual leaner so sorry if you’re not!!!🥺
for this tutorial you will need:
- photoshop + basic photoshop understanding. - a way to download videos.  - patience with my ramblings. - i think that’s it?
ok here we go!!! so.
step one: the first thing you do is find the video you want to gif. i’m gonna do this one:
Tumblr media
i use clipgrab to download videos of the youtube, which i downloaded for free from right here.  i haven’t gotten a virus yet, so it seems safe. it works for youtube videos and instagram videos, but not twitter videos or vlives.
there’s also Y2Mate which is online and does the same thing, but i think for only youtube videos - i also can’t completely vouch for it because i’ve never used it, but i think it should work just fine! you can find it right here.
IMPORTANT - make sure that your video is as high quality as possible. you can either change that on youtube by clicking on the gear in the play bar (right next to cc box). usually videos are automatically set to 720p, which is pretty good, but i like to bump it up to 1080p when there’s the option to! note: clipgrab usually does this automatically for you, i’m not positive about Y2Mate and other online converters.
step two: copy the link into your converter. make sure that the quality is where you want it, then hit “grab this clip” or “convert” or whatever the prompt is and it will download onto your computer. save it wherever you want to that you’ll find it, i usually just save it to my desktop so that it’s right there for me.
step three (optional): i like to crop the video down and do a primary editing on imovie just so it’s easier to manage when making the gifs. this step isn’t necessary, but if you have imovie or another video editing app, i would suggest it!! (you can also slow down the video here if it’s too fast to make a good gif!)
here’s a before and after shot!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
for me, i literally just click the “magic wand” or “auto-adjust” tool. but you can already see it makes a big difference!
so now i also use iMovie to crop down to the gifs i think i want to use. it makes things easier to be precise when using photoshop.
step three and a half: export your new mph. once again, make sure the quality and resolution is bumped up to your liking!
Tumblr media
step four: so now it is time to use photoshop! open up a new document. you can set it to whatever dimensions you like, i typically prefer 500x281, but it doesn’t actually matter because it will automatically resize to the size of your video lol. anyways, once you have your canvas open, go to file -> import -> video frames to layers.
depending on if you have more than one gif in the movie file, you can either crop it down or just import the whole thing. since i have to gifs in this file, i’m going to crop it.
Tumblr media
step five: okay, full credit to this life saving post for the next step!!!! i was stumped on how to edit all layers of a gif at once for quite a bit of time, which is why some of my earlier gifs are a much crustier looking. anyways, op explains it much better than i ever could, so i would suggest just reading their tutorial for this step!!!
step six: so now that you’ve combined all your gif layers into a smart object, it’s time to edit them!! the adjustments i typically mess around with are image -> adjustments. i almost always adjust the brightness/contrast, vibrance, hue/saturation, and selective color. i don’t have specific settings for these (sorry if that’s not helpful!) because it really does depend on each individual gif! sometimes my adjustments are drastically different for gifs from the same video!! i’m perfectly happy to help troubleshoot for specific issues if you need help, but it’s hard for me to give a blanket tutorial for this part :)
also remember to not whitewash poc when adjusting the settings. please don’t do this!!!! it’s also possible to correct whitewash w/photoshop, so just fool around on the settings until the subject’s skin tone is what it should be.
step seven: after adjusting your gif to your liking, now it’s time to actually sharpen. for steps 7 through 10, i use a trick from this amazing post to sharpen! so now that you’ve adjusted all your layers, do control/command click on the layer and choose duplicate layer. this will make a copy of the edited gif.
Tumblr media
step eight: on the original layer, go to filter -> sharpen -> smart sharpen. once again, every gif is different so depending on the size and quality of your gif, the sharpen settings will be different. the larger the gif is, the more you can sharpen it, which is why i like to wait until the end to resize it!
Tumblr media
step nine: on the copied layer go to filter -> blur -> gaussian blur. again, the amount of blur will depend on your gif. this step just smooths it out. don’t worry if it looks blurry, because it’s supposed to! after this, still on the copied layer, go to filter -> sharpers -> smart sharpen once more.
Tumblr media
step ten: cool! now you’re going to lower the opacity of the copied layer! i usually put it at about 30 percent!
step eleven: go to file -> export -> safe for web (legacy). this is were the resizing goes! so for this particular gif, i didn’t have to crop it or anything. so the only think i do to resize it is make it 500x281. this size usually ensures it will be small enough to upload to tumblr, and it is a ratio of most standard sized videos so it works perfectly!!
and voila!
Tumblr media
i’m so sorry if that was very long and/or hard to understand!!! please feel free to ask any clarifying questions!!

Tumblr’ing Back
A Brief History
Apparently, Tumblr is having a resurgence. To be more accurate, Tumblr never actually went away, just for me it seems. Here's the Tumblr- circa 2003- that I remember and until today have long forgotten:
Imagine me wearing checkered Vans and hair that strategically covers one partial eye. I’m listening to Dashboard Confessional (also known as the band you listen to when you want to be utterly miserable, because at the ripe age of thirteen, is life anything but?) on likely an illegal mp3 music downloading app (SOS Spotify!). Suddenly, a friend sends a picture to my personal email- [email protected] and it takes me on a seemingly endless visual adventure of music lyrics, emo-haircut inspiration, cute puppies, cute band guys and so much more. After perusing this new addiction, “Tumblr”, I develop favorite accounts. I follow these accounts almost religiously because they embodied a personality or experience that went with my vibe, such as images of coffee shop windows on a rainy day, black and white photos of converse sneakers, and who knows what else. It was a long time ago and I’m a different person now- albeit for the love of puppies that persisted. I eventually stopped checking those Tumblr accounts because I had more pressing issues, like deciding who my top 6 friends on MySpace would be!
Tumblr media
Tumblr Today
Fast forward almost 20 years later and Tumblr is alive and well…apparently. At first, I almost didn’t believe it. I now get my content fix through Pinterest or Instagram. Certainly not from Tumblr. That was a thing of my teenage past. Or was it?
A quick search led me to realize that companies are thriving on Tumblr today. They are literally living their virtual best lives on this platform that I thought was nonexistent. Even more fascinating was seeing large corporations like Coca-Cola, Comedy Central, The New Yorker, and Vans (!) bring their brand to life through images. Each Tumblr ‘blog’ strategically features captivating images that lures their audiences into another rabbit-hole of digital content exploration within their own website. Or they focus on enhancing a particular brand value or quality. Coca-Cola created a fun spin on their ‘Refresh the World’ vision and their page is dedicated to images that portray the happy moments of life. That right there is a cohesive brand and digital communications strategy.
The individual communities use Tumblr with a similar aim of forming an identity through a hodge-podge of sorts. They collect images, videos, and quotes like tokens that collectively shape and express their individuality.
That’s when it hit me: Tumblr is a marketer’s dream. It was then and it still is now. That’s because every company shares the desire to put their individual stamp on the world. That means developing an identity and getting creative in how it gets translated out into the world. Images and advertisements do a great job at doing that, but Tumblr puts in front of those users who ‘vibe with your vibe’ and become cult followers in the image that you are portraying and selling.
Corporations also realized that for some reason, we absolutely love communicating in GIFs. So what better way to get people talking about your product is to give the people GIFs to talk about. You bet Tumblr enables that.
Tumblr Tomorrow
Almost 20 years later and I find myself falling into yet another endless adventure with Tumblr. This time with better music, better hair and better shoes.
I’m still unresolved if I would suggest Tumblr to my clients as part of their digital strategies. But at the very least, I have a much stronger argument for recommending it.

Rockman.EXE Episode 31 Review.
And here is Netto!
Tumblr media
Oh, sorry, that’s my Gulpin who I nicknamed Netto.
Here is Hikari Netto!
Tumblr media
Well, now I remember why I called him that.
Tumblr media
I like how Netto admits that the title is a bad pun. XD
We open the episode with a Star Wars parody for some reason, don’t believe me?
Tumblr media
Long ago in a far away parody...
Netto narrates the text since it’s in english, and we then see a flying curry saucer near the Earth and a shot of Netto’s plane arriving at Namaste, a country known for its curry. Apperantly, Namaste takes this title seriously since we see something resembling the hand of the statue of liberty holding a curry dish.
Tumblr media
As soon as Netto leaves the airport he is greeted by an indian looking man who tells him that he will partake in an “all you can eat curry buffet”. Netto, being the hungry anime boy protagonist, is delighted by this idea and accepts to go with the perfect stranger, despite Rockman’s suspitions.
Tumblr media
We inmediately cut to a fancy hotel where Netto gets ready to eat his first curry meal.
Tumblr media
Before watching this episode I had no idea what curry was, all I took from this episode is that it was some kind of sauce.
Tumblr media
It just looks like a regular dish with rice and meat sauce with some vegetables on it to me.
Netto begins to chow down the curry like crazy, ignoring Rockman’s warnings.
Tumblr media
Soon after we get a montage of all the dishes he has to eat in a single day.
Tumblr media
How is a curry ice cream even posible?!
Anyway, the curry sushi seems to hit the spot for Netto as he has another over the top reaction, with the indian guy crying with joy.
Tumblr media
What does tasting curry have to do with being in the N-1?
Get ready ladies, because right after this we get a close up of Netto’s belly expanding.
Tumblr media
Rockman is not to be blamed if Hikari Netto explodes.
More belly expansion.
Tumblr media
What’s strange about this scene is the amount of detail they put into these close ups, it’s suppoused to be funny, but it feels like it has another purpose. Then again, I might have a dirty mind. X(
We leave Netto asking for more as we zoom in to some mountains where we find Madoi and Count Elec hand gliding. They talk about Mahajarama summoning them to Namaste and that Hinouken already there. We still don’t know why, but since they are gliding really high their gliders freeze up and the two of them fall into an abyss.
Tumblr media
I’m sure they’re fine.
We then see Netto’s friends on a ship where Yaito tells them that they should surprise Netto at Namaste since it is his last stop, and what better way to get there fast than in a freaking rocket!
Tumblr media
Even Yaito seems like she’s having second thoughts. XD
Speaking of bad decisions, we return with a shot of a super stuff Netto. Naturally, he is too full to keep eating, but since Netto loves curry so much he wont quit.
Tumblr media
This guy doesn’t see that Netto is too full?
Tumblr media
It took this long for his vest to finally open.
We then see the fat Netto on a bed where the indian guy tells him to get ready to meet the best curry restaurant in Namaste with a very familiar name.
Tumblr media
Good to know your ears are not stuff too.
After this, we cut to Count Elec and Madoi with some souvenirs for Mahajarama.
Tumblr media
I like how the Count gets offended after Mahajarama underappreciates the souvenirs.
Turns out Mahajarama owns a popular curry restaurant that has been in his family for generations, to which Count Elec asks him why he didnt bother paying for airplane tickets for them.
They also ask why he called for the World Three members.
Tumblr media
Well that came out perfectly for you, considering you took the wrong plane in the last episode, but now that I think about it, could Mahajarama had something to do with that too?
Mahajarama tells them the harsh truth about them never getting real jobs and that their only hope is to rebuild World Three, and the only way to do that is for them to finally defeat Netto and Rockman.
Tumblr media
Since the last time you saw them? Because you still believe last episode was a dream, right?
After Hinouken mentions something about team work, we cut to Netto’s friends who are finally at Namaste. Not knowing where Netto is, Yaito tells them that she will track him with her spy satelite and that they will wait in the air for the results.
Tumblr media
She has an automatic lawn mower as part of her security system, a giant tree house that doubles as a secret base, her own private jet, a limo that can drive over water, her own battle submarine, and a freaking rocket! What else is new?
We cut back to the World Three with Mahajarama giving a speech about curry being a combination of different spices and compares it to the perfect team work, as he reveals the other three members rising from the floor with colorful chef hats.
Tumblr media
I like their different expressions, Count Elec looks angry, Hinouken is embarrassed, and only Madoi seems cool with it.
They are all gathered in an underground Net Battle arena that doubles as a curry research lab where Mahajarama reveals a giant machine with several arms like a hindu god.
Tumblr media
Pfff... Puririkko-chan.
This giant machine scans the brain waves of all the World Three members and has the ability to create a curry dish based on their team work.
Tumblr media
Each plate comes with a glass of water, cooked rice, some chopped vegetables and a spoon.
Since they know nothing about team work the taste of the curry is flat out horrible. Mahajarama tells them that if they can master working together the curry will taste better.
Outside of Mahajarama’s restaurant, Netto arrives with Rockman. Their suspitions are confirmed once they see a life zise statue of Mahajarama at the entrance, Rockman warns Netto that it is a trap, but Netto’s stomach proofs to be stronger than his brain since the smell of the curry inside is enough for him to go in.
Tumblr media
Geez, Netto, if it wasn’t just the World Three you would’ve put your life in danger just because you couldn’t resist the smell of curry.
Netto quickly remembers he walked into a trap as soon as he hears Mahajarama’s voice, who captures him inside a ball that transports Netto to the underground floor.
Tumblr media
After commercials, Netto arrives at the underground arena where he is greeted by the World Three operators challenging him to a Net Battle, Netto agrees and sends Rockman into a cyberworld that looks a giant curry stew.
Tumblr media
Just like their operators, Fireman and Elecman can’t wait to fight Rockman and interrupt Magicman’s witty dialogue attemp.
Tumblr media
Rockman points out that they are cowards and the two Navis rush over to attack him, with Coloredman joining in by thowing his ball along with some vegetables he picks up accidentaly hitting Fireman and Elecman who fall in the apperantly boiling curry water.
Tumblr media
Mahajarama nags them and the machine scans them again revealing another curry dish that they dont even bother to taste.
Netto sends in the Shot gun to Rockman, but the four Navis finally work together to block the attack and make a combo. Rockman dodges the attack but a new curry dish is created.
Tumblr media
Normally when lightning strikes, it means something bad.
The World Three curry is getting better as they score another combo attack, which is just them passing Coloredman’s ball to eachother like in a soccer game, and they knock Rockman into a giant bread cooker that rises from the water.
Tumblr media
Rockman is being cooked inside, and it looks like Yaito’s spy satelite can also capture images from the cyberworld because Netto’s friends inmediately receive the footage of Rockman’s face! They figure that Netto and Rockman are in trouble and they hurry to where the footage came from.
Netto points out that the World Three strategy is dirty, but Mahajarama just complements himself by saying that the dirtyness adds that extra flavor to his curry.
Tumblr media
Okay, now the machine has cooked meat too?!
Yaito’s rocket arrives and drops two drilling cars with arms that bust through the ceilling to where Netto and the World Three are, because what can’t you buy when you’re rich?!. After casually greeting him, Netto’s friends plug in their Navis to break the container where Rockman is.
Tumblr media
The World Three Navis proceed to attack them, but Rockman’s friends protect him with a cuadriple barrier. After seeing how in synch they are we eachother, Mahajarama scans the group’s brain waves and a new curry dish appears, literally blowing the World Three away.
Tumblr media
Netto and the others explain to him that their team work is better because they’ve been friends for a long time, and that the best curry is the one that is left out after a day.
Rockman activates a new style change, the Elec Team Style aka Elec Brother Style.
Tumblr media
Somehow Netto knows the Elec Brother’s ability since he asks Tohru to lend him Iceman’s power by using an “extension chip” from who knows where, because I have never heard of that until now.
Tumblr media
The extension chip downloads Iceman’s data into Rockman which might be the anime’s version of a Navi chip, this grants Rockman the power to send his electricity to the WWW Navis and freezing them.
For some other unexplained reason, Piririkko-chan...Pff, blows up after this and Netto and friends manage to escape on Yaito’s rocket just in time, where Netto then tells them that he might not eat curry again in a long time after his experience in Namaste.
Mahajarama survived the explosion where he is found by Beet, he says that he have finally realized that he’s indian curry is superior to the japanese curry and that he will proceed with his plan of expanding his restaurant world wide.
Tumblr media
However, the other World Three operators overhear him and are not happy with the fact that he used them in order to confirm his theory, leading to them beating him up off camera.
Netto finally returns home, where his useless mom had no idea he was coming back that day nor did she even consider picking him up at the airport. Netto asks her what’s for dinner and falls over after she tells him that its curry. And the episode ends with Rockman laughing at Netto’s bad luck and telling the viewers that their trip around the world is officially over.
Tumblr media
She sure seems trilled to see her only son back home! XC
My thoughts?
This episode wasn’t just for comedic purposes, it also lets us know what the former WWW members are up too after the whole Pharohman incident. Any other criminal would just go find another job, because its not like the police know who they are and the Net agents have proved to be useless in arresting people. No, these guys want to keep creating chaos and get revenge on Rockman, Mahajarama already has a different goal, why can’t the others do the same? Just give up already, you’re never gonna beat Rockman!
“Namaste” is an Indian greeting, and in the anime it is the name of a country that seems to be based on India, though it is never mentioned again after this episode.
We also learn what curry is, curry is a dish that was created in India and is a sauce made by combining spices and herbs. Curry is a popular dish in other asian countries who adopted it and created their own curry recipies based on reginal preferences. For example, did you notice how the curry plate created from Netto and his friends teamwork was yellow rice? That is because thats a japanese styled curry. Rice curry is a popular dish in Japan, so in any anime series you will always find atleast one episode where the main characters are eating rice curry.
The Elec Team style is actually named the Elec Brother style, I guess it is because Rockman and Netto are suppoused to be brothers in the game. This style is activated when using Navi chips often, since there are no Navi chips in the anime they decided to let Rockman gain another Navis ability with the help of some “magical” extension chip that appears out of nowhere, seriously, I have no idea where Netto got that thing or knew it was compatible with the new style.

2019
saw Rachels tumblr post wrapping up her 2019 so ima do the same thing lol ty for the inspiration rachel <3
2019 was wild had some amazing highs and some devastating lows but i mean that happens every year lol.
school: completed my favorite clinical ever in the ED wow i could go on forever about it because i enjoyed it so much and i learned so much and wow ED nursing is amazing and so crucial i can’t wait to work in the ED again in a few years (hopefully) overall i enjoyed school surprisingly i love nursing and i can’t wait to finally use my BSN, RN in action in a few months. i!! am!! a!! college!! graduate!!! passed NCLEX too thank god (no real lows in the school department actually)
work: got to put my RN license in action working as a flu nurse haha i thought it was gonna be more intense but it was actually pretty chill just giving shots lol im not afraid of giving shots at all now because i did it literally for a job lol. got hired to be an oncology nurse at swedish which was nice :) the not nice thing was having my license delayed though which means now i am not working as a nurse T_T but i mean at least i still have the job--just got delayed but nothing to beat myself up over it. glad i found a full time babysitting job to fill the void in the meantime though :) winston is a very cute baby and i love him a lot and i am excited to see him again ahah hes such a darling and pay is enough for me to pay rent and some but rip savings haha
family: feels kinda the same? i’ve always been decently close with my immediate family i guess but going to the wedding and seeing everyone for the first time in a while was weird--i am def the most liberal and like out there out of the entire family i would say like what i believe in and what i hold important etc but i mean thats also not a bad thing--they focus too much on religion and like conservative ways in my opinion and i am too scared to talk about that stuff with extended family lol bc they are so stuck in their ways and i dont want more lectures lol i dont go to church in seattle but i go to church when i am home lol all convos at home become church related somehow and i hate it honestly...i don’t want religion shoved down my throat anymore please!!!!!! it is so suffocating
fitness/body image: started gyming a lot this past summer and continued it until december loll bc i got busy with life but i gained a lot of muscle mass and started feeling good about how i looked for the first time ever really (so sad i know) gained some weight too but that’s ok bc muscle mass. hopefully i can go back to the gym in january so i can work on getting slim thiccc lol i’m such a twig. i am not worrying too much about weight anymore because it is just a number! but i do relapse sometimes and worry too much over how i look--it is a work in progress
friendship: for the most part good or actually honestly all good because the only friend i feel like i kinda lost is Jason? but i mean hes off doing his own thing with his own friends and SO so its ok. if he’s happy im happy for him! maintained friendships with everyone i was close with before and even caught up with some old friends like alice, esther, rowena and i even met up with priyanka once although she never hits me up anymore lol i tried ok she is a busy person. got pretty close with like albert and will especially the past few months and everyone else really through talking to them about my struggles and issues and i know they all care about me truly <3 i love my friends and i am very grateful for the bunch of them. still close to michael and michelle! and i became close to michelle kang thanks to rachel <3 hehe i love rachel she keeps it real for me and is there for me regardless i love living with her and being with her and she just gets me ya know? ily lots rachel wifey <3
relationships: wow where do i even begin....life was going well with jason and then it just went downhill and i am writing this post as single as i can possibly be HAHA we broke up in sept after 3 years but no hard feelings right? hes with someone else and i am content/over him for sure---i was losing feelings which is one reason why i called it off lol but ya he taught me alot but at the same time a lot of people don’t think he was the best for me lol...they all tell me i could do better/glad i am not with him so interesting to hear this now tbh we had some issues and they couldn’t be resolved properly...hope he isn’t mad at me or anything idk....i can say confidently that i am over him 10000000% and i won’t look back. downloaded dating apps in seattle lol and i got wrecked for 2019 HAHA met a really nice guy and hit it off well and i was really liking him but ya tldr did couple-y things and were even exclusive just to have it called off bc there was no attraction and surprisingly i’m not mad at all even now! it hurt the first few days but im over it now. thank you next! (if youre reading this please know this is true and i do want to be friends and this time apart with me being in the bay has helped a lot--took my mind off of a lot of things lol i just want whats best for you!) i know hes looked at my tumblr before lol thats how close we were imo since only a select handful know of this page... he was the first guy i was amazed at for his maturity and levelheadedness actually so kudos to him! not many guys are like him so hopefully the next is just as mature lol i am talking to some guys super casually tho but ya i gotta just focus on myself and friends/fam instead of boys lmao...i am extremely afraid of being vulnerable and opening up and even truly liking someone again because they always leave and i always get hurt and broken lol hopefully i learned my lesson this time haha boys are scary and i have 0 expectations anymore ha ha ha! im open to dating not too sure about being tied down though idk if the right boy comes along so be it!  i dont want to come off as like dependent and insecure and always needing a boy with me for validation--i dont want to jump from 1 boy to another boy so fast bc my heart needs time to heal and recover lol i am baby heh
this is a very long post so ima write my 2020 goals on a different post aha overall 2019 sucked kinda but also didn't suck lol hopefully 2020 is better haha

The Low Hanging Fruit of Web Performance
New Post has been published on https://britishdigitalmarketingnews.com/the-low-hanging-fruit-of-web-performance/
The Low Hanging Fruit of Web Performance
There is so much to know about making websites fast. It’s rather incredible. Things like understanding servers and networks, how browsers parse things and make decisions, efficient coding choices, and file format nuances make being a performance expert a full-time career in itself.
But you don’t have to be an expert to care about web performance nor be an expert to start making changes to your websites to make them faster. Even total beginners to the web industry have the power to make significant performance increases to the sites they work on.
Perhaps you’ve heard this one?
If you save the length of an array first rather than calculating on each iteration of a for loop, it’s faster:
// this is faster var l = arr.length; for (var x = 0; x < l; x++) dosmth = arr[x]; // than this for (var x = 0; x < arr.length; x++) dosmth = arr[x];
That’s exactly what I’m not talking about. Haha. Sorry.
I want to talk about low hanging fruit. Easy changes that have big impact on web performance.
I have some of my own ideas. As a front-end developer and someone who thinks the web is a pretty darn great thing, I’m into any idea that makes it better. A few years back I did a whole talk on 10 things you can do to make your site faster, all of which are pretty low-hanging fruit.
But more recently, I asked on Twitter, and lots of people had some ideas of their own.
What are the LOWEST hanging fruit of web performance? Nothing fancy, anyone can do, big impact. Gzip. Optimize stuff. Reduce requests… What are other big ones? — Chris Coyier (@chriscoyier) August 17, 2018
Lemme squish it all together and make a list! Remember this isn’t a comprehensive list of performance-increasing tactics. The requisites to be on this list are that they are fairly easy to do and that have big performance returns.
1) Reduce Requests
This one is my favorite. Anytime I can rip something off of a page and not really sacrifice anything, it feels great. Are there some CSS files you can combine? Tracking scripts you can remove? Sharing buttons that could be just simple links?
Dave Rupert recommends keeping an inventory of all the stuff on your pages so you know why it’s there and what it’s purpose is.
ImageAlpha + ImageOptim (Mac) / RIOT (Win) before upload SVGOMG before upload Keep an inventory of wtf is being added and why
— Dave Rupert (@davatron5000) August 17, 2018
You should also consider the concept of a performance budget. A performance budget might say: you have X requests for Y total file size and Z seconds of load time and nobody can do anything to exceed them. Make it part of the culture around your site!
2) Optimize Assets
Your images can probably be a lot smaller in file size than they already are, without losing any or much quality. Download an app like ImageOptim and drop images onto it before you use them on the web.
The same concept applies to all sorts of other file types. Rather than linking up the “raw” JavaScript that you write by hand, it should be run through a minifier to reduce its file size. This does stuff like remove whitespace and even fancy stuff like rewrite function names and calls to shorter versions. Same with CSS, it should be minified. There are loads of ways to do this that any build process can handle. For one example, here’s me using CodeKit and making sure the output of my SCSS is compressed:
For SVG files, check out SVGOMG!
Google performance expert Das Surma says compressing/optimizing images is the lowest hanging fruit of all for web performance. For images and video specifically, I’d also recommend checking out services like Cloudinary or Imgix which specialize in optimizing and serving images in super performant ways.
3) Make sure you’re gzipping
As a test, open your Network tab in DevTools and pick a CSS file. Look under the Response Headers and see if the content-encoding is gzip.
If it’s not, there are massive savings you could be having by just making sure gzip encoding is turned on on your server. Your host should have information about this for you. Here on MediaTemple, on an Apache server, here’s some info for that. It’s about making sure mod_deflate is on, which does the gzipping.
You might even investigate Brotli, which can be ever better than Gzip, and I notice is supported here on MediaTemple through the Securi firewall.
4) Make sure you’re browser caching
See that second arrow in the screenshot above? That points to an expires date for that CSS file. Notice it expires in the year 2037. That means the browser will hang onto that file essentially forever and not need to re-download it when needed again. That’s a massive performance booster. Need to change the file? Change its name! style.css?v=16.4
Speaking of caching… the general concept of caching is a massive part of web performance low hanging fruit. Your web host can probably make recommendations here. For example, perhaps they can flip on nginx reverse caching for you. Or if you’re running something like a WordPress site, perhaps you can toss on a plugin like W3 Total Cache and reap the rewards from that.
5) Use a CDN
Like Tim Murtaugh says… set up a CDN.
Content Delivery Networks (CDNs) are for serving your flat files (like images, CSS, and JavaScript) from super fast servers that are specifically tuned for that job (for example, they are “cookieless” which saves some network data overhead). Plus they serve those files from servers that are geographically as close as possible to the user requesting that file. Big gains!
This is low hanging fruit as it’s generally a one-time setup and it’ll benefit you forever. Look into setting up Cloudflare for your site, or something like Stack Path or KeyCDN.
Media Temple offers a nifty a CDN and Web Application Firewall, all-in-one.
6) Lazy Load and Defer Loading of Things
The idea of lazing loading is that you don’t request the asset (like an image or video) until it’s needed. Imagine you visit a blog post that has 6 images on it, but 5 of them are down the page pretty far, and you never bother to scroll down. Why request the other 5?
There are lots of techniques for lazing loading, so allow me to just link you to Jeremy Wagner’s article on Google Fundamentals which covers the concept.
The idea of deferring the loading of JavaScript is simple. There are fancy ways of doing this like code splitting, but perhaps the lowest hanging fruit is deferring the loading of a script by putting it at the bottom of the page, or literally using the defer attribute.
Just add `defer` to any script element. Takes 0.7s to implement, makes your page a gazillion times faster. Pretty good ROI if you ask me.
— Benjamin De Cock (@bdc) August 17, 2018
7) Use responsive images (or at least use reasonable sizes)
Zak Nicola says he’s hit “home runs” for local business clients by simply resizing images on their sites to reasonable sizes. They had massive 4k images being put into a 120x60px spot. Yikes. It’s more common that you’d like.
Using reasonably sized images is a quick win. Check out Dave Rupert’s 1.5x images thinking. That might be a good default for everything.
Doing a bit more, look at using responsive images, which is special HTML for your images that has the focused purpose of serving the best possible image for the situation.
<img src="small.jpg" srcset="medium.jpg 1000w, large.jpg 2000w" alt="yah">
<picture> <source srcset="examples/images/extralarge.jpg" media="(min-width: 1000px)"> <source srcset="examples/images/art-large.jpg" media="(min-width: 800px)"> <img srcset="examples/images/art-medium.jpg" alt="…"> </picture>
Also, consider stuff like using muted autoplaying videos instead of GIFs.
Animated GIFS to videos (Autoplay, muted, loop). Remove the audio track too.

8) Mind Your Fonts
Using custom web fonts can be just as much of a performance burden as the usual suspects: images and JavaScript.
Do you need them at all? If you can get away with not using any custom web fonts at all, or removing some/all of the ones you have, you’ll certainly see performance gains. Perhaps check out using a system font stack.
If you need to use them (I don’t blame you, typography is fun and gives a site a lot of life), then you’ve still got options for improving the performance of them. The lowest hanging fruit is to try out using CSS in your @font-face declarations for those custom fonts, in the form of font-display: optional; /* or swap */. With that, the custom fonts will never hold up the loading of the page, so you might experience FOUT (Flash of Unstyled Text) but never FOIT (Flash of Invisible Text). The “invisible” situation is the one that impacts web performance the most. Pages with no text are pretty useless.
As Brian P. Hogan says, that’s perceived performance as much as it is actual performance.
I’d say understanding what blocks the page from loading and what doesn’t. So, not just “actual” performance but “perceived” performance.
— Brian P. Hogan (@bphogan) August 17, 2018
If you wanna get hot and heavy with the performance of loading fonts, dig into Zach Leatherman’s Guide to Font Loading Strategies.
9) Good Hosting / HTTP2 / PHP7
There is some performance low hanging fruit in your web hosting itself. If your site has slowness issues in the form of response time being slow, perhaps it’s time to upgrade to something more powerful than shared hosting. Throwing money at a speed problem doesn’t always work and isn’t always an option, but sometimes it’s the perfect solution. And it’s definitely low hanging fruit as the effort is minimal.
Speaking of hosting, your web host can probably help you upgrade or configure your hosting to take advantage of the best technologies available.
Turn on http2 and make sure PHP is upgraded to PHP 7 (if applicable)
— Megan Zlock (@meganzlock) August 17, 2018
Ask your host about the possibility of taking advantage of HTTP/2, and if you’re running a classic CMS like WordPress or CraftCMS, getting on the very latest versions of PHP and MySQL which have had massive performance improvements in recent years.
10) Turbolinks
This Turbolinks stuff is a bit of a wild card in this list, but I like it because if it can possibly work for you, you get some increase performance with little work (again, low hanging fruit).
Have you heard of SPAs (Single Page Apps)? The whole idea there is that once the site loads, even as you click around, interact, and go to other pages of the site, the site never reloads. For example, you’re building a React site with React Router. URLs still change and all that, but the laborious process of a full page reload never happens. It’s all Ajax requests and re-rendering. Done right, very cool.
Turbolinks brings that kind of behavior to a site that wasn’t originally built that way. Rather than refresh the page, when you click a link it goes and fetches that page and re-renders what is needs to on the current page.

Description
The Complete Android 8.0 Oreo Developer Course by Rob Percival and Nick Walter Learn Android App Development with Android 8.0 Oreo by building real apps including Twitter, Instagram, and Super Mario Run. This course was recorded using Android Studio 3.0.1 (which is a great introduction to the development environment!) For a smooth experience I'd recommend you use the same, but students can still use the latest Android Studio version available if they prefer! Wish you’d thought of Whatsapp/Instagram/Google Maps? Me too. But until I work out how to build a time machine. Here’s the next best thing.
The Complete Android O Developer Course
Kicking things up a notch from my smash-hit The Complete Android N Developer Course (59,000 students + 8,500 five star ratings) -- my latest course is your fast-track, skip-the-queue ticket to building high-caliber Android apps. Because let’s face it… you’re busy. You want results. And you don’t have time to hang around. And while you wait for that big idea, developers in the US are making an average of $95,000 a year…  “Excellent instruction and content. Continuously building apps keeps me engaged and drives the lessons home nicely.” “So far it's a great tutorial for beginners! You learn a lot of concepts in short videos and hence it's not boring. You get to make a lot of apps which makes it a lot more practical and interesting!” “I'm a senior android developer already but this course has been a huge help in revising all the basics and making the android knowledge foundation even stronger.”
Why choose me?
My name’s Rob Percival, Udemy’s bestselling coding instructor. I believe that if YOU succeed, so do I.  That’s why for the last five years I’ve dedicated my life to building courses that get my student's coding and building apps as quickly and efficiently as possible. With 22 courses (and counting), and half a million students to my name - I’ve built a multi-million dollar business helping people learn to code. I’d love you to join my community and start seeing all the wonderful benefits coding can bring to your life, too. And if you don’t like what you learn? I offer a 30-day money-back return. No questions asked. Let’s dig in. “This course was absolutely the best thing that ever happened to me. I learned literally everything I needed in android app development. Looking forward to taking other courses from Rob Percival. A special thanks to him as well for making this course. I wish I could've given more than 5 STARS!”
What’s so good about Android 8.0 Oreo?
“Safer, smarter, more powerful and sweeter than ever!” Whether you’re looking to usher in the next generation of smart TVs, fitness wearables, games consoles, game-changing AI, smartwatches -- or just build simple apps for good old fashioned fun -- Android 8.0 Oreo is your key to unbridled creativity.
And the potential market right now?
IS HUGE. The Play Store gives you access to a massive commercial audience with one active billion users downloading apps, last year alone. But, I digress. Fresh from Google’s workshop, Android 8.0 Oreo is stable, feature-rich and functional as ever. Not only can you develop more efficiently, but you’ll get new ways to extend your app. All you need is the right idea or that lucky bit of exposure -- and your ‘big break’ might just be around the corner… So join my Android 8.0 Oreo revolution today and here’s what you’ll get
Learn all the new features to Android Oreo, like Adaptive Icons, Picture-in-Picture, Downloadable Fonts and Virtual Reality with Daydream.
Dive into Augmented Reality with our ARCore section. Learn how to mix the physical and digital world through a user's camera.
Learn essential skills like Bluetooth, game development, and sending users notifications.
BONUS MINI COURSE:
Get your free mini-course on Kotlin. Kotlin is a new programing language you can use in place of Java when making android apps. It’s gaining more and more support and is an essential skill as an Android developer. “Amazing!! I couldn’t believe that I could develop android apps after taking this course.” “The best teacher I`ve ever met on the internet. Wish I could give you 6 stars. Keep it up, man.” “I'm loving the speed at which the course moves through the material. As someone who learns best by trying things out for myself, this has been a huge leap forward in my skill level..” “Unlike every other course in android and Java, this one includes many hands-on coding projects that teach you how to REALLY build the stuff you want to build.”
And that’s not all folks! You’ll also get my BONUS BUNDLE to support you through your learning journey…
Because I want you to have the vERY best start in your Android journey, I’ve put together a bonus bundle packed with everything you need to kick things off fully equipped and ready for action. Normally, this entire bundle of extras, bonuses, and support would cost $$$$$$$$ for one year’s access. However, if you sign up today, you’ll get LIFETIME ACCESS to the course materials, downloads and of course, important updates.
All for just one pocket-friendly payment of $200.
Not a penny more.
Here’s what you’ll get:
$100 Amazon AWS Credit for hosting your own social apps.
$500 WORTH of exclusive app templates, images, and audio resources to use in your apps
24/7 project support: via our buzzing course forums.
One year of FREE WEB HOSTING on Eco Web Hosting's Advanced Package, worth £119. *Limited to one year per student, not per course*
What have you got to lose?
“Simple, easy to follow, and being able to check Q&A for other people's questions and progress makes it more fun to learn.” “Excellent explanations. Easy-going attitude. I've done 2 popular Android courses on Udemy and this course had much clearer explanations than the other course I tried. I'm surprised how quickly we were able to build cool apps.” “I learned not only how to program but also how to reduce complexity, lines of code, code readability, and many other helpful programming techniques.”
Why take this course?
For the last three months, my team and I have been diligently exploring, interrogating and appraising Android 8.0 Oreo.
Our goal?
To bring you our most comprehensive Android course yet. A rigorously tested, exhaustive (yet fun) course with serious thud factor. AKA our most extensive, thorough and detailed course on Android EVER. In fact, click to buy this course, and you’ll get a COLOSSAL 35+ hours of delicious, chocolate-chipped, Oreo flavored goodness to devour and enjoy at your leisure. You’ll want to hungrily race through each digestible chapter as you naturally and easily consume each skill. “I could not have gone to a better course to start with android native development. It offers everything I wanted in my app and also provides ample opportunities to engage the learner in an efficient implementation of what one has learned. Highly recommended.” “Amazing course! I just finished the Tic Toe app and still going on. Being 4+ years experienced Java developer, I can tell that this is extremely well explained. Thanks, Rob!” “For me, this is an excellent course. If you want to learn how to create Android apps without all the hassle of learning the entire history of Android, this course is a must. A lot of tutorials dive way too deep into a theory which may result in tutorials becoming boring. Luckily, this is not the case here!”
