The Yaoi Ronso and Akiko Mizoguchi

here the original post this one stems from. I advice reading that one first if you haven't. Please note I am no expert on this, and this is a post to give an overview of the different topics treated. There might be some inaccuracies.

The Yaoi Debates - 1992

In 1992, a “confrontation between women yaoi fans and gay men about the relation between the representation of homosexual love and society’s prejudice against gay men in real life” that happened in the japanese feminist magazine Bessatsu CHOISIR. 

The Yaoi Ronso (or Yaoi Debates) were a series of letters published in the magazine between Masaki Sato (a gay activist), who criticized the genre, and the female readers, who defended it. Masaki Sato criticized yaoi for showing examples of homosexual life that could negatively impact young gay men who read them. Meanwhile female readers argued back that shonen ai/yaoi was not meant to depict reality, or real men. This exchange of letters ended with Masaki Sato and some of the female readers agreeing in some points, and Sato suggesting that instead of escaping from reality these stories should make reality easier to live in. 

Up to that point, in most of the 20 years of academic studies regarding the subject, it has been argued that the men depicted in these stories chould be thought as a third gender free of societal expectations, object of love in a pure form. A means for female sexual liberation and exploration, made possible thanks to its detachement to reality. Lots of theories at the time said that women used these “boys” to avoid having to become “women”, and the expectations that came with the title. Maintaing the “boyhood” from childhood that is lost as they become women. 

After the Debates, female academics started evaluating the power of the symbol of male homosexual love fantasies. And so started a discussion about the difference between reality and fantasy, getting to question topics such as depictions of rape being easily allowed. All of this as part of gender studies and manga studies.

One of the more discussed things in academic studies regarding shoujo and BL is its heterosexual female public. The shonen-ai/yaoi/BL has served as a medium for homosexuals to find each other but also for heterosexual women to flee society’s heteronormative and gender pressures, heavily associated with fantasy. One example of this is the magazine Barazoku (meaning Rose tribe, bara is a term highly associated with gay content). Which featured a column where letters of female readers would be published. At first these letters expressed the desires of these women to marry gay men, or become gay men themselves to enjoy a freedom they believed gay men enjoyed (they would usually be referred to as okoge or fag hags). Despite its problematic nature, the chief editor of the magazine went against advice and requests to stop publishing such letters. From there on started to appear letters from lesbian women (which ended up being the only kind of letters that woul d be featured) who, interested in depictions of homosexual love would realize their own desire for the same sex. This column was then changed to the name Yurizoku (the Lily Tribe, yuri is a term highly associated with lesbian content). 

The 1990s were also when there was a “gay boom” in japan (lgbt movie festivals and other things started happening). Many of the manga magazines that published BL would feature articles that introduced the japanese gay lifestyle to its women readers. Like, gay bars, Shinjuku Ni-Choume (the gay district of Tokyo), or art popular among gays or even foreign gay communities. Gay men and women has been learned from each other in this way for a number of years now. 

Academics noticed the impact of the Yaoi Ronso on BL as they started to observe gay characters who reached a happy ending emerging. The Yaoi Ronso had a definite impact on the evolution of the gerne as it started to take into account that (having meant to or not) they had a power of influence that affected real people.

However, Wim Lunsing brings an important point to the table:

“Gay manga are not essentially different from BLB manga.”

It is true that BL is the most popular form in which we find gay stories in Japan. However, gay comics had existed for almost the same amount of time as yaoi. 

Short introduction to Male Love (ML)

ML, Gei Komi and Bara are the terms with which gay content made by and for gay men are refered to. Gengoroh Tagame is one of the most prominent figures of it. Before he started publishing his very sexual BDSM comics, the beauty ideal that was pursued was the bishonen aesthetic. However, Tagame’s characters where big, muscle-y, fat, hairy men, with a clear influence by Tom of Finland, and its popularity changed the tastes of japanese gay men.

Gengoroh Tagame also started writing slice of life manga in an effort to educate japanese society about gay life and LGBT issues. He is the author of the manga My Brother’s Husband (which was later turned into a 4 episode series).

Another notable manga is Until I Met my Husband, based on an autobiographic essay by Ryousuke Nanansaki.

Akiko Mizoguchi, the Rape Fantasy Expert - An Extra

Akiko Mizoguchi is a notable researcher of BL studies. She is the expert in regards to the analysis of depictions of rape, however she writes mostly in japanese, and my comprehesion of it is very limited for academic readings. 

She has wrote an extensive book: Theorizing BL As a Transformative Genre: Male-Male Fictions by and for Women - which is currently being translated to english.

Summary:

Identifying Mari Mori's 1961 short novel as the origin of the genre and the 1970's-1980's "Beautiful Boy" manga within the girls' (shojo) manga as the precursor, Dr. Akiko Mizoguchi discusses how the commercial BL genre has transformed into an unprecedented genre with feminist and queer activist potential. Recent commercial BL genre has produced stories that portray strong female characters and gay-identified characters who come out and engage in other realistic negotations. Mizoguchi argues that while BL represents beautiful male characters at the center, for veteran women fans and authors, it functions as a female sexualized discursive space in which they exchange pleasure to the extent that these women can be called "virtual gay men" and "virtual lesbians."

Mizoguchi is a lesbian woman trying to bring a new type of analysis of BL taking lesbianism into account. 

Other academic authors with a lot on yaoi manga/BL are Mark McLelland and Thomas Baudinette. 

Conclusion (of sorts)

Even though The Yaoi Debates ended, it is still being had up to these days. Both in academics and within the BL fandom. If we change the exhange of letters in magazines for the internet, we find ourselves in a similar situation. I hope that through this post the Debates have become clearer and easier to understand for those who didn’t know about it. 

I close with this quote from one of the text I read for this post:

“The implication that gay sex is objectified for the purpose of the sexual liberation of women surely is a queer use of male homosexuality par excellence.”

Together with a longer version of the previous quote:

“It rather seems that gay men like Satō have difficulty with the idea that women may look at them as sex objects. Gay manga are not essentially different from BLB manga.”

Make with it what you will, but it is indeed food for thought.

alternate title: jujutsu high’s epic water gun fight

characters: nobara x bff!reader (platonic), yuji x reader, megumi, satoru

warnings: 1 singular F bomb, i think that’s it.

AN: not a lot of yuji x reader action but it is stated that they’re together. this is mostly platonic between nobara and reader.

The battled had raged on for weeks, and neither party seemed to want to back down. Innocents were caught in the crossfire, furniture broken beyond repair, and suspicions were at an all time high.

As she walked cautiously to her dorm, the young girl scans the hallway meticulously, anticipating an attack.

“(y/n), this is absolutely ridiculous. You two are acting like children.” Nobara huffs in exasperation.

Furrowing her brows in concentration, (y/n) replies, “This is serious stuff. You never know what’s coming, Bara.”

"I know, I know," Nobara replies, shaking her head. "But can't you at least try to compromise a bit?"

"Compromise?" (y/n) says with a scoff. "There's no room for that in a battle for pride."

"Well, what about the collateral damage? Do you want to get expelled from this place because of your pranks?" Nobara asks, pointing out the cracked walls and shattered windows.

"Don't be a killjoy," (y/n) retorts, "And get ready to face the next wave of our war."

As the last word leaves her mouth, (y/n)’s pink haired enemy boyfriend jumps out from behind a corner brandishing a water gun. He's ready for battle and ready for victory.

"It's game over, (y/n)!" he says with a laugh, shooting a stream of water at his girlfriend's face.

"NOOOO!" she shouts, drenched in water and shocked by the sudden attack. She's caught completely off-guard and has no time to react.

"Victory is mine!" Yuji shouts, basking in the glory of his triumph before running away to escape the wrath of his girlfriend and her best friend.

(Y/n) turns to her best friend, looking the equally drenched Nobara up and down, “Do you understand now?”

Nobara spits out a stream of water before answering, “Oh yeah… I get it. And he’s so going down!”

(y/n) and Nobara share a mischievous look, determined to get their revenge. With a chuckle and a shake of her wet hair, Nobara smiles, "This is going to be epic," she says, looking forward to the battle ahead. The girls race off, ready to face their shared enemy and his shenanigans head-on.

"Let the great war begin," (y/n) says, as the two friends run off to her dorm to plan their revenge, their laughter cutting through the air as they go.

They reach the dorm and lay out their strategy. With the necessary materials gathered and a foolproof plan, the girls can practically taste the sweet victory to come. Now, they just have to set the plan into motion.

Picking up her phone, (y/n) dials the number of another one of their shared friends and puts it on speakerphone, “Megumi! Are you busy?”

Megumi answers, “Not really, why?”

Nobara snatches the phone, “Can you get Yuji and meet us at the front of the school? We have something important to show you guys. But don’t. tell. Yuji!”

“It can’t wait?” He grumbles.

“No.” Nobara hangs up, turning to (y/n), “it’s time. We need to get into position, now!”

The girls race to the front of the school, hiding behind some bushes as they wait for their pink haired target to show up.

“It’s a shame Megumi is gonna get caught in the crossfire… I kinda feel bad.” (y/n) whispers.

Nobara looks at her friend pointedly, “Remember, if he’s not on our team, he’s on Yuji’s team. That makes him an enemy.”

(y/n) rolls her eyes, giggling quietly, “He’s not on any tea- oh! Look! Here they come!”

With their weapons at hand and their target in sight, (y/n) and Nobara wait for the right moment to strike. As Megumi and Yuji make their way towards them, the girls hold their breath and prepare to unleash the fury of their watery weapons as soon as the two walk past them.

In a flash, the attack begins, as (y/n) and Nobara let loose a massive stream of water at their unsuspecting friends, soaking Megumi and Yuji through and through.

“WE GOT EM!!!” Nobara celebrates when her water gun is empty.

(y/n) let’s out a loud laugh at Megumi and Yuji’s irritated expressions, “Not so funny when it’s you, huh Yuji?”

Megumi shakes his head in annoyance, water dripping from his hair and onto his face, “This,” he gestures around them to the wet battlefield, “is what you wanted to show us? Really?”

The girls giggle and Nobara slaps a hand down on his shoulder, “Actually it was only meant for Yuji. You were just an unfortunate bystander.”

As Megumi grumbles and Nobara laughs at his misfortune, Yuji walks up to his girlfriend hanging his head in defeat, “You got us good, babe. You win.”

(y/n) smirks back at him, relishing in her triumph, “I knew I would.”

Then, the four kids freeze as a loud voice echos over the courtyard, “Actually, I think I win!”

They whip around, looking for the source of the voice and find their manic white-haired sensei standing in front of them with biggest water gun any of them had ever seen.

“No,” Megumi starts.

“Fucking,” (y/n) continues.

“Way.” Nobara finishes.

A hand latches onto (y/n)‘s wrist, pulling her away, “RUN!!!!!” Yuji takes off.

The four teens run, dodge, and try to find a place to hide out of the range of fire, failing miserably to do so, but having fun nonetheless.

Later that day, when all of them are soaked to the bone, Satoru Gojo is officially declared the winner of The Great War.

Dog the Capybara:

Dog is just a chill kid living in Metropolis Zone (Fleetway) with his nan. He hangs out with his childhood friend Bebe and Groovy Train Super Sonic, where he's the calm go-with-the-flow member of the group. They all meet at the skate park and do fun tricks and goof off and have fun and be themselves :) Also they're all in a little club together where they try to learn magic from Ebony (they aren't succeeding). She's got a huge nosering her nan doesn't care about and secret knuckle tats that say CAPY BARA that made her flip her lid. Underneath the skull hoodie is a skull t-shirt. And he's just niceys and supportive and friendly and I like her :)

Crux the Hawk:

Crux doesn't remember who they were, and that's kinda okay by them.

Originally a hypnosis test subject, Crux was deemed far more valuable to the Badnik Empire by Doctor Starline and Comet after exhibiting a nack for 'outside the box' problem solving and strategic thinking (years of speedrunning and breaking video games finally paid off). They know that they could return to their old life if they wanted - but the fear of facing what they lost keeps them looking forward to the opportunities that lay ahead.

Crux values honesty above all and tends to find the brighter side of life, which they credit as being the reason they can tolerate living with Starline and Comet. They still deepdive into any video game they can get their hands on, listen to pop music almost exclusively, and love fidget puzzles. They're also relearning their lost ability to manipulate wind and air using Chaos energy, able to jump to great heights, slow or stop their falls, and create air bubbles underwater for themself and others.

1 MARCH 2024 || ST. DAVID'S DAY (2/3) - YSGOL YR HOLL SAINT - ALL SAINT'S SCHOOL

The Prince of Wales visited Ysgol Yr Holl Saint (All Saint's School) to see how the school is celebrating St David's Day and hear about how its teaching its pupils about local Welsh history and cultural traditions.

He met pupils taking part in activities including Dawnsio Gwerin - traditional Welsh folk dancing and baking Bara Brith, a Welsh tea bread flavoured with dried fruits and spices.

He then heard about how the school is supporting its pupils to take part in innovative, forward- looking projects by meeting those who have made it through to the UK Finals of the Formula 1 in Schools competition.

Finally he met Year 6 pupils who have been learning about the history of the Gresford Mining Disaster and the impact this had on Wrexham and the surrounding areas.

“You’re awake!” Tomoya exclaimed brightly, walking into the hospital room, pulling me by my hand into the room. I pushed a strand of magenta hair out of my face, smiling fondly, as the two of us made our way to the hospital bed.

The bed was inclined to a Fowler’s position, the blankets messy. Monitors beeped steadily to the side of it, wires leading to the figure laying in the bed. The bluenette was sitting on top of the covers, legs crossed under him. Despite his frailness and the bags under his eyes, Kaname had a grin on his face. 

“Tomo! Iba! I’m so happy you’re here!” Kaname beamed, leaning forward to accept a hug from Tomoya and a kiss on the cheek from me. Tomoya grabbed Kaname’s hand and began to tell him about the week since their last visit. I adjusted my glasses as I rested my hand on Tomoya’s shoulder, a warm feeling flooding my chest. 

“I apologize that it’s been so long since our last visit. Moya and I had been meaning to stop by sooner, but idol work got in the way,” I sighed, running a hand through my hair. “Meetings, lives… you know. It’s been a lot. Not that it’s any excuse, of course.” I added the last part quickly, giving Kaname an apologetic look.

The bluenette just smiled again, eyes somewhat melancholy. “It’s alright! I understand how it can be. Well… yeah. You know.” 

Tomoya tilted his head, running his thumb over the top of Kaname’s hand. “I’m sorry. We know you miss it… I wish you could be up on stage with Ra*bits, or Eden, or even your brother.” The blonde fell silent for a moment, seemingly deep in thought. “How about we turn this room into our own stage?”

I looked at Tomoya at that. “What do you mean?” I asked, meeting his gaze. The blonde grinned, before walking over to the door to close it. He pulled out his phone, typing for a moment before turning the screen to face Kaname and I. It took me a moment to place the words on the screen, but Kaname recognized it immediately.

“...One of my songs? But, how?” He asked, face lighting up. 

“HiMERU! Well, your brother, I mean. He helped me find it, and I thought maybe we could all sing it together. If you don’t want to, it’s fine, but–”

Kaname thwacked Tomoya’s hand gently, smiling at him with adoration. “This is one of the nicest things anyone’s done for me, stupid. Thank you.” He kissed the top of Tomoya’s hand. “You knew about this, Iba?”

I shrugged. “Shiro mentioned it in passing, but I admittedly wasn’t fully paying attention when he did.”

“He’s been busy. Besides, I wanted it to be a surprise for both of you, in a way. I brought mics, too,” the blonde reached down to pull three karaoke microphones from his bag. “I don’t have music, but I still thought it would be fun to have the mics. Here, Bara, read the lyrics real quick–I color coded each part for us.” I took the phone that was shoved in my face, reading through it, as well as taking the microphone. 

“Tomo, I… thank you,” Kaname leaned up to kiss Tomoya’s forehead, smiling at the two of us. “This is amazing.”

She does get hurt by it especially since Olivia is conventionally attractive & skinny ....guys that look like Ren usually go for that....Aisha has previous trauma of crushing on people only for them to go for a conventionally attractive person...YEAH just all of the messy mess ...just lots of insecurity and negative thoughts goin on in poor Aisha's head >.<

However, as their relationship grows and Ren validates her and becomes a better boyfriend, her insecurities are settled for the time being. If anyone else were to flirt with Ren, she does try to stop it immediately by gently hugging his arm and leading them away from the flirterer (that's not a word lol). She's usually assertive if that person keeps pushing it, "This is my boyfriend, he's taken." But usually by that point, Ren will step in and make it clear Aisha is the only one for him.

Heck in some cases, she will kiss or makeout infront of the flirter, though this is usually brought on by a spur of random confidence or she's drunk.

She's not comfortable with PDA, at most she enjoys hand-holding and brief cheek kisses, but that's it.

Affection through actions: She enjoys gift giving such as crocheting tiny plushies for Ren (ex: strawberries, roll cake, Ren, herself, etc), drawing things for Ren, walking to him first always if he's in a crowded room, rubbing his hand when she can tell he's nervous (or when she's nervous), cooking for him, bear hugging him until he's whimpering - just all the normal stuff!!!

For the most part, once Aisha is comfortable with Ren and they see how weird she is XDDD she's pretty dominant in the relationship. She likes playing with Ren from time to time and picking on him. She likes using the nickname puppy and calling him her "pink marshmallow". She still calls him this when Ren becomes comfortable enough to show his true self.

This film from your mega song contest Melodifestivalen provides everything needed in a film. Inappropriately dressed humorous characters (for a sauna at least), a decent prop, and clever simple choreography. Nothing too grand or excessive. Three lads in brown suits meeting for some communal nudity to relax at the end of the day. Some lumber people who have worked hard for their money and wish to rest their tired bodies.

The problem we have Sweden is that this is a heavily addictive song that gets suck in your mind like chewing gum on a shoe. You don't want it there, but I stood on it and it's there for a while. Nobara was finished. Finished with her meal, finished talking to the man she randomly picked from a dating app, finished with everything. She wanted nothing but to stand up and leave.

She found a lame but reasonable excuse and quickly left, saying that she got a phone call from someone. Sure, leaving her date alone was a shitty move, but she could care less about what he thinks.

Walking away from the restaurant, she started thinking, this has been her new normal for almost three years. And honestly? Twenty two year old Nobara was growing sick of this.

She knew to never stoop so low for love and affection as she prided herself in finding content and peace with being on her own. But right now, all she wanted was for someone, anyone. Well, not really just anyone. But saying who, she'd rather run a thirty kilometer marathon than to say it outloud.

Turning around to rest for a while in the alleyway, she leaned her body back and sighed heavily. While being promoted to a grade 1 sorcerer meant that she could afford the lavish lifestyle she’d been wanting all her life and yet, all she wanted now is to turn back to times where life was just, simple.

Her and the two idiots walk together to class, walk back from their mission, buy something from the vending machine, or even stay the night in Yuji's dorm room to watch one of his human earthworm movies.

Nobara can't help but miss them all. Missed their banters, missed the times where they've been greeted by death himself, missed being, herself.

"God, this is what I get for caring," she instantly wiped the tear that almost fell as she grabbed her lighter, "for a bunch of idiots too."

She missed to notice a looming black-hole forming on the wall she was leaning on, it was too late to even try to escape before she felt a hand around her waist, the other closing in on her mouth to muffle any sounds she'd intended on making.

Her eyes widened accompanied by a muffled scream, before she knew it, the alleyway was fading away to find herself staring right at a pitch black. The hands that trapped her body had disappeared, but the sinking feeling that she had no idea on how to get out of there was present.

Quickly scanning the area, she didn't waste any more time and whipped out her nails and hammer. Still uncertain, she tried taking a step forward and continued on walking, her eye narrowing and on a lookout.

"Don't need to hide from me." she stated, "It's not like you'll get out of here alive-"

"Kugisaki."

Her eye widened, she stopped walking but her back hadn't turned to the source of the sound.

'There's no way.' that voice, she hasn't heard it in years. While it ran deeper than what she remembered, but she never forgets it. She never forgot about him.

Rage quickly took over her body, infiltrating the nails with her cursed energy and flew them straight at him. At the same time, she runs, she runs as fast as she can towards him.

Fushiguro Megumi. A name she hasn't thought about in forever, she lies to herself. Who is she kidding? How in the hell would she forget about the same Megumi who killed Yuji, their friend?

Megumi didn't summon his shadows, it’s like he was expecting her to have this reaction and allowing it. The nails are plunged into his shoulders, they just need to get in contact with her hammer and she could hurt him.

Hurt Megumi. The fucker who killed their best friend.

She half expected it when his hand held hers in place, preventing her to do any more damage. For the first time in years, their eyes locked into each other's.

Nobara masks her expression as best as she could, letting him know he doesn't have any effect on her. Megumi's however, holds a different story.

She couldn't read what was currently in his mind, but seeing his eyebags and almost-defeated look on them, she sees nothing but red.

"Kugisaki."

"Shut up." the grip on her hammer tightens.

He didn't relent, "Kugisaki, I'm-"

"Save your apologies, you don't deserve shit." feeling his hold loosening, she immediately sees the opportunity and manages to plunge one nail right into his skin.

She could've hurt him right at that if he didn't back away, her eye seeing the frogs that makes her forcibly remember a distant memory. Megumi on the other hand groans, taking off the nail and throwing it away.

There, she sees it. Reversed cursed technique. This fucker really did what she thought.

"Was killing Itadori not enough for you? Does that bastard want my blood?" she ends with a snark, although her tone was anything but light, "Or maybe, you want mine? You're going to take my life away, just like how-"

"Shut up!" he shouted, his facial expression hardening. But she didn't back down, never had she backed down on something like this.

"No! You- You killed him, he was giving you a chance to live and you-"

"I had no choice."

"No choice? Oh please, as if he and Gojo-sensei never gave you many chances to-"

The hand encircling her neck was unwelcomed, his grip on it tightening each second. He pulled her close, his face no longer holding any regret or remorse.

It's like, she's seeing a whole different person.

"Don't you dare bring his name here." she's pissed him off, and right now, she's aiming for a full point.

"W-What? Because hearing h-his name makes you remember?" she leaned in closer, to the point where she could hear and feel his breath. It's shaky, but she knew better than to think she's talking to fifteen year old Megumi. That Megumi’s dead, she tells herself.

She gripped his yukata as tightly as she could, "Y-You not only k-killed Gojo, but Itadori too, y-you asshole!"

"Shut up!"

"M-Make me, you f-fucking asshole!" the grip on neck loosened and she fell to the ground, coughing and frantically breathing in and out.

"You, don't know anything. You know nothing about how I felt." he defended himself, turning around so he wouldn't face her.

"I-I know enough that he- fuck it, we would've forgiven you. Your body got turned into a weapon, and instead of letting down, y-you chose to fire even more fucking bullets at us."

"You made your choice when you saved Sukuna, Fushiguro. You chose to save yourself by greed."

The tension around them thickened, Nobara looking straight up his back as she waited. Maybe, in the back of my mind the Megumi she knew was still there. The one she's been talking to was just a facade.

"Gojo told me to be greedier." the flatness in his tone sent shivers down her spine. It worsened when he turned around and continued, "Sukuna gave me the opportunity and power to be greedy."

Out of the many things she thought he'd say, this was the last thing she ever expected.

"I have no one else to live for, so why not live for myself for once?" he sighed, looking down at his hands, "Being powerful, was what Gojo would've wanted."

"You're- You're not serious-"

"I am, Kugisaki." he squated down to look her again in the eyes. "He would be happy to see me like this, like how he taught me to be."

The next sentence sends the auburn-haired girl into a frenzy, "Killing off Itadori was solid proof of that."

"Motherfucker! You're insane!"

"Aren't all of us are?" he stood up and started walking away from her.

"I'll cut our reunion short." he turned and glanced at her and for once, she wished to see anything other than that neutral expression.

"Demon dog."

📖 My favorite new (to me) fic of the year ehhhhh I can’t remember if I first read Dirty Laundry this year (and the male version!). I don’t have much use for most Swaps, much less Swapfell, but this was absolutely delightful 🖤

If not, then I really really enjoyed Ghosts Above, which is Farm x Horror (not the bara version) and also has a skipped-ahead NSFW companion piece, just sayin’

📝 Favorite thing I’ve written in 2024? Uhhhhh fuck what did I do besides Songfell let’s see—it’s all been a bit of a blur because I spent the first half of the year working my ass off in order to get us successfully moved into my parents’ house, and the second half babying my arm after the resulting tendonitis, using dictation and the one-handed keyboard Dale got me while I waited to heal up a bit.

I like that I have been able to update at all. Seriously. I remain extremely grateful for everyone and looking forward to finishing Songfell and its gay AU. Gayu?

1: What inspired you to write the fic this way?

Character interactions (and romance) come a little bit easier to me, and I definitely feel more comfortable writing it over things like combat. I balanced the two in the past and present chapters, and my “comfort” zone chapters were a little bit like a reward for challenging myself with the combat chapters.

Comfort aside, I wanted to balance out how much suffering Simon would experience in the present with breaks to the past chapters (for awhile, they were a nice break - not the case anymore lol, sorry Simon.)

13: What music did you listen to, if any, to get in the mood for writing this story? Or if you didn’t listen to anything, what do you think readers should listen to to accompany us while reading?

Oh yes - I made a post of my writing playlist awhile back. It mostly consists of arrangements of the CV2 soundtrack, SCVIV soundtrack, the entire Malice Mizer Bara no Seidou album (the vibes are perfect), and some tracks from Castlevania pachislot.

God’s Great Dust Storm, introduced to me by a wonderful anonymous ask the other day, has definitely made it into the writing rotation as well. ^_^

Regarding accompanying music while listening to the fic, can’t go wrong with the CV2 soundtrack, or any gothic ambient music.

I have one track that I will be sharing as part of The Project that will hopefully immerse readers into the chapter that it will be published with… :^) Please look forward to it.

I’ve been in this hellhole of a site for 12 whole years but I was already lurking for more than a year before I decided to join. So I’ve been around for 13 to 14 years, give or take. And I really feel nostalgic, now more than ever, about how it used to be at the beginning. This place was peak for creativity and just having fun with stuff anonymously, no strings attached. It was paradise, and still is, but now with way less people and way less traction. I’ve been careful to keep my editing style consistent for all these years so that I’d still remember the trends from Way Back. I’m glad it has the same effect on other people. So, know that your message has warmed up my heart! 💕

There’s actually a lot that I’m looking forward to next year! First of all, Tongari Boushi no Atelier and Hikaru ga Shinda Natsu! Secondly, the anime adaptation of City (I think KyoAni can’t possibly fuck this one up, it’s animation-focused with very little plot, so basically their forte) and the remake of Jigoku Sensei Nube (when the official Toei channel started broadcasting Nube as a 30-year anniversary commemoration, I could SMELL the remake coming and have not been normal ever since). Speaking of remake, there sure is a lot of remakes next year! There’s the remake of Anne of Green Gables, Versailles no Bara, As for the rest, Medalist, Witch Watch, Kowloon Generic Romance, Chuuzenji-sensei no Mononoke Kougiroku, Sakamoto Days and Dekin no Mogura.

Ofc, I’m also looking forward to the many sequels! That includes Kusuriya and WataKon, but also Hanako-kun, Aharen-san, Kaijuu 8-gou, Dandadan, Shoushimin, Kuroshitsuji, Hyakushou Kizoku, 3-nen Z-gumi Ginpachi-sensei (can you even call this a sequel??? lol) and of course, the last season of HeroAca. So far, this is my list!

And yes! Hope the universe hears you! May next year be a blast!
