『•』An update on the art market 📈💸📉⠀ ⠀ The art market tends to lag behind the stock market and the economy in general. The internet bubble in 2000 + September 11th and then the crisis of 2008 were quickly taken in hand. These are also two periods that saw the number of rich people in the world increase dramatically and a production of artworks at a level never seen before. The collapse of 1990 took almost a decade to rebound, partly due to the rise in interest rates, but many of the large art galleries in very good shape today were born in the 1990s. ⠀ ⠀ We are now in transition to winter as the medical crisis subsides. Too bad for @artbasel miami but the decision is economically wise. I'm waiting to hear from @fiacparis ⠀ ⠀ For the time being, the guarantees negotiated since 2019 (which allowed for very good online auctions in 2020) and stable demand should keep prices stable. ⠀ ⠀ Art Paris for art galleries is a first breath, very encouraging but I haven't seen my foreign collector friends. This is the most insightful interview that crosses so many fields of business! On @drinkchamps, @therealnoreaga asked @nas who’s one artist that turned him down for a feature, Nas meantioned the legendary #PrinceRogersNelson. The reason that #Prince turned him down was epic and relatable to conversations of #ownership that we have in arts and business today. American Gothic, 1971 by #BennyAndrews. I wanted to post this for #MemorialDay but I wanted to give respect to the veterans and not criticize the system. Andrews created this work to express his feelings about the country to which he lived and served (Andrews himself being a military veteran). His quote that the “military is being used by misguided citizenry” is so spot on for the status of not only the military but our country as a whole, with “leadership” making the news for everything but progression of the #UnitedStates. Breakdown with a Flat Tire, 1940 by William H. Johnson.. I love everything about this piece.. Everyone looks extremely happy to change the tire, and most likely, were just happy to be able to afford the car. I like how the carriage looks like a house and the front hood seems to be shaped like the roof of a church ⛪️.
