On the hour leading up to midnight on Hogmanay, 1811 and into New Years day a riot occurred in Edinburgh, now knowns as the Tron Riot.
Edinburgh in the early 19th century was a time of heightened tension between the crowded Old Town and the wealthier New Town, founded in 1767. This architectural separation made the division of classes more pronounced. Conflicts, riots and social unrest were common in Scotland at the time.
The Old Town was home to many youth gangs, one of which was the Keely Gang (also known as the Niddly Gang), led by Hugh McDonald and Hugh McIntosh. The police were given more powers, which was particularly hostile to the poor. Petty crimes committed by gangs like the Kelly family were increasingly suppressed by the authorities.
It was a tradition for New Town residents to come to the Old Town to celebrate Hogmanay in the streets around Tron Church, a tradition that still existed until recently then at the time The Tron was the parish church, and the bells there brought in the New Year.
After midnight, crowds moved through the area, heading to a friend's house as part of a fast-footing custom. According to later trial testimony, the Keeley Gang planned to take advantage of the wealthy crowds of the New town Hogmanay during the final weeks of 1811 while simultaneously attacking the police.
On December 31st, members of the Keeley Gang began attacking passersby. - On the streets of the Old Town from around 11pm. Victims were surrounded, threatened, and in some cases knocked to the ground and robbed by young men with wooden sticks. A town watchman named Dugald Campbell was attacked by a group of young men at Stamp Office Close off High Street. He was beaten with a stick and left to die. Apparently Campbell was known to the gang, and they hated him. It was later claimed that they planned to "lick him on the last night of the year if we could catch him." Campbell was taken to the Royal Infirmary and died of his injuries on January 3rd.
A bounty of 300 guineas was offered by the town council for information leading to the arrest of the attackers. Victims and witnesses described many of the rioters as "boys" and "young people." By the end of the month, 68 youths had been arrested, none of them over the age of 20. They were described as "a band of lazy apprentices". The primary perpetrators are believed to be John Skelton, Hugh McIntosh (16), Hugh McDonald (18) and Neil Sutherland (18). Skelton was convicted of attempted robbery, and McIntosh, McDonald, and Sutherland were convicted of planning a riot and conducting a raid. McIntosh was also found guilty of the murder of Dugald Campbell. All four were sentenced to death along with James Johnston, who was never arrested.
Skelton's sentence was later commuted to life transportation due to his previous good character. On April 22nd, McIntosh, Sutherland, and MacDonald were hanged near the stamp office. Mackintosh's body was sent for autopsy, and Sutherland and MacDonald were buried in Greyfriars Church.
According to historian Andrew Ralston, the Tron riots sent a strong message about juvenile delinquency and were used to deter other would-be criminals.
In addition to the three people sentenced to death, several of the lesser offenders of the riot received relatively harsh sentences for their crimes. Lord Gillies hoped that these punishments "would not affect the youth of the city, but would be a means of making them disgust with acts such as those recently committed here."
After the riots, authorities quickly took steps to reorganize and strengthen. police force. Later that year, the Edinburgh Police Act 1812 was introduced, greatly increasing the number of police officers patrolling the city.

Any good nurturing heroes towards the heroine you recommend in HR?
I defined "nurture" pretty broadly but here we are:
Glory and the Master of Shadows by Grace Callaway: The hero Wei is Glory's shifu (teacher) so he literally does, uh, nurture her talents before they get together. He's also genuinely so kind and patient and a GREAT teacher and that's so hot of him, I think.
When a Duke Loves a Woman by Lorraine Heath: Thornley helps Gillie serve patrons at her tavern and then HE BATHES HER and I don't say this very often, but that's such a romantic ideal.
Devil in Spring by Lisa Kleypas: I joke a lot about Gabriel St. Vincent (Gabriel Challon ik ik) trying really hard to be daddy but real talk, he does provide a safe, judgement-free space for Pandora, who has never really known a healthy family dynamic until relatively recently, was brought up super isolated, and is also likely on the spectrum and a lot of other people dismiss her because of it. So all things considered, some of his less impactful lines like "have you been a good girl today" can be forgiven.
Nine Rules to Break When Romancing a Rake by Sarah MacLean: Ralston is genuinely so supportive of Callie's quest to discover herself by doing "scandalous" things without being condescending, and he's just suuuuper obsessed with her which I appreciate.
The Lady Gets Lucky by Joanna Shupe: I feel like Kit really brought out Alice's confidence during the course of their flirting/sex lessons and he unwittingly gives kinda great pep talks.
Wayward One by Lorelie Brown: Nurturing from afar....? Basically, Sera finds out that the mysterious benefactor who paid for ten years of schooling and ensured she would want for nothing is a crime lord of the London underworld.... who intends to marry her.

YOU GUYS I JUST THOUGHT OF THIS
But if it is, you'll be ahead of most startups. The friends might have liked to have more money in this first phase, but being slightly underfunded teaches them an important lesson. Just the wrong things. Running software on the server, it would be an extraordinary bargain. The customer support people were about thirty feet away from the most radical implications of what they planned to do. Startup School. At the time I never tried to separate my wants and weigh them against one another. Or more importantly, who's in it: if the beachhead consists of people doing something lots more people will be doing in the future should not depend much on how you deal with html. You could have some other kind of spams I currently do have trouble with. This is an astounding number, because I know the answer to that.
That last has to be designed by hackers who understand design, not designers who know a little about software. Newspapers and magazines are just as screwed, but they won't just crawl off and die. Such deals may be a way to generate the sufficiently smart compiler you could create a situation indistinguishable from you being that manufacturer, at least. Partly the reason deals seem to fall through so often is that you don't have this protection, as we found to our dismay in our own startup. Not much, I should explain what it means. Some angel investors join together in syndicates. And since individual performance is so hard to measure in large organizations, their own confidence would have been in the mid 20th century is not because they love finance but because they want to know what they're going to raise $200,000. You end up with more than added confidence. 7 1. 9198 Url free 0.
You'd think this lesson would be too obvious to mention, but I've had to learn it several times. But, like us, they don't say I would never use this. You wouldn't use vague, grandiose marketing-speak among yourselves. When they think it's time to raise money, they try gamely to make the best case they can for their startup, don't wait several months before deciding. But even then, not immediately. Start by building a site for Harvard undergrads to stalk one another. The summer before senior year I took some college classes.
One of the most powerful people in the future, it will tend to improve, but if just 2 or 3 percent were regular visitors, you could succeed this way. Even the most ambitious people are probably best off approaching them obliquely. Brandeis was a product of this period. That's what makes theoretical knowledge prestigious. The field of philosophy is still shaken from the fright Wittgenstein gave it. So he sets as his goal in the Metaphysics was partly that he set off with contradictory aims: to explore the most abstract ideas, guided by the assumption that they were useless. When we were starting Viaweb, I didn't get the additional message. I recommend to people who need a new idea. Since that seems to be to some degree system administrators as well. If you leave a bunch of eleven-year-olds to their own devices, what you get is Lord of the Flies. In that case I often recommend that founders act like consultants—that they do what they'd do if they'd been retained to solve the hard part of starting a startup you should have access to the system from anywhere. That's a filtering rate of about 99.
Thanks to Jessica Livingston, Beau Hartshorne, Geoff Ralston, and Gary Sabot for the lulz.

LORD OF RIGEL SYNTH SERIAL
LORD OF RIGEL SYNTH SERIES
When Flanders discovers that Homer is the one who has been duping him into committing murder (by way of a Bible-shaped receiver), Homer argues that God does not exist and starts burning Ned's bible, only to be stopped and strangled to death by God Himself.
LORD OF RIGEL SYNTH SERIAL
In a parody of Dexter, after hearing a voice that he thinks is God telling him to murder people, Ned Flanders becomes a serial killing vigilante, targeting characters who are Homer's enemies. When he is again bitten by another spider (a radioactive one this time), he gains the ability to shoot spider webs out of his rear end and have the same abilities as Spider-Man, though he is still unable to move or talk. The Simpson family is amazed at the result and Lisa helps Homer tell Marge how he feels about her. When Lisa reads for him, she discovers that he can communicate through farting. The bite leaves Homer paralyzed and unable to speak. Unfortunately, there is a real black widow spider in the box and when Homer grabs what he thinks is a plastic spider, he is bitten by it. In a parody of The Diving Bell and the Butterfly and Spider-Man, Homer begins to decorate the house for Halloween and is reaching for a decoration in a box. Bart opens his mouth to show the chewed up candy spelling the title of the episode. Throughout this story, Bart, Lisa and Maggie are seen eating the candy. Then he chews off the one that was actually pinned, Homer learns that he was carrying a bag of vegetables, as Bart, Lisa and Maggie had secretly stolen back the candy, inciting a dismayed Homer to scream in rage. Fueled by his need to get the out-of-reach bag of candy, and rather than wait twenty minutes for help, Homer chews off his arm. Unfortunately, Homer trips and falls to the bottom of the canyon with his arm pinned. Homer instead runs off with the bag to eat its contents in privacy at a canyon cliff. When Bart, Lisa and Maggie come home with their Halloween candy hauls, Marge confiscates all of it to donate to the army. After watching the show, the producers of the musical released a press statement in which they told how flattered they were when their show was mentioned on The Simpsons. The episode featured a reference to the Broadway musical Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark. The critical reception was very diverse, ranging from a plea to end the show to a statement that the show is on top of its game and should not be cancelled. In its original American broadcast, it was viewed by approximately 8.1 million people. The episode was written by Carolyn Omine, directed by Matthew Faughnan, and featured guest voices from Aron Ralston and Jackie Mason. The opening was a parody of the autobiographical film 127 Hours, in which the subject Aron Ralston loses an arm.
LORD OF RIGEL SYNTH SERIES
This episode's stories were primarily spoofs of the French film The Diving Bell and the Butterfly, the television series Dexter, and the American film Avatar. The episode is part of the Treehouse of Horror series, which is an episode divided into three separate stories and an opening that is a parody of scary or Halloween themed stories. It originally aired on the Fox network in the United States on October 30, 2011. " Treehouse of Horror XXII" is the third episode of the twenty-third season and the twenty-second Halloween episode of the American animated television series The Simpsons.

Can you please recommend some historical romances where the hero is a slutty simp lol that sounds perfect. Thank you so much!!
For sure!
Of course, you have to start with Devil in Winter by Lisa Kleypas, which is the definitive "oh god, this whore is actually a simp" book. The guy begins the novel with being like "listen I fuck around but I don't do feelings" and ends with one of the most ridiculous (amazing) pre-sex spiels I've ever read where he's like "I want to pour all my essence into you and have you so close to me that we can never be pulled apart and I want to make you come so many times that you can't handle it anymore and just want to die please let me do it" and it's great. Should be prefaced by It Happened One Autumn for full effect. The hero in that one is less slutty, but otherwise the dynamic is extremely show!Kathony.
Lorraine Heath loves a slutty simp. The Earl Takes All (the famous Gorilla Twins book; hero's twin dies by gorilla attack, hero pretends to be his twin so that his pregnant sister-in-law doesn't have a miscarriage; this plan goes about as well as you'd think) has a hero is such a fucking whore that when he attends his own funeral everyone is like "Jesus, that guy was a mess". Falls in love with his pregnant sister-in-law and discovers she has a Plot Important dirty mouth and he is OVERCOME.
Waking Up with The Duke, where the hero has to fuck his best friend's wife so that she'll get pregnant... the wife he's always secretly longed for while developing a reputation as London's greatest lover... is... a lot. There's a scene where they're out on a boat, because their Sex For Procreation Appointments quickly turn into actual dates, and he starts to try to eat her out in the middle of the lake and she's like "we're literally gonna die out here, you're the stupidest man I know, also a little to the left".
The Good Girl's Guide to Rakes by Eva Leigh has a great little older brother's best friend romance where the heroine wants to take a walk on the wild side (she's a virgin who can't drive) before getting married. The hero is like "what could go wrong with this?" By the end of the book his own brother is like "stop looking at her like that IN PUBLIC, you're giving the game away!!!"
The Duke I Tempted by Scarlett Peckham has a literally sexually submissive duke (yet oh so dominant in the right ways) in it. If you were intrigued by that shot of Anthony on his knees with Kate's thumb in his mouth, you would probably read this.
To be followed up by The Earl I Ruined, about a plucky gossipy young woman who isn't a total bitch but nonetheless accidentally on purpose ruined her brother's best friend's life. Brother's best friend has been longing for her for years and has big Sexy Secret, and this does come in hand in ways involving an apple.
Nine Rules to Break When Romancing A Rake, obviously. Sarah MacLean LOOOOOVES a slutty simp. Ralston does the whole "OH GOD I'M SO SORRY FOR MAKING SWEET LOVE TO YOU IN NOT A BED, MARRY ME" thing so well. Also, great fat rep, and an amazing scene where he tells the heroine that she's been very mean to her breasts by binding them for a fencing match, and unfortunately he's going to have to take care of them because of that.
The Rogue Not Taken also has an extremely slutty, extremely simpish hero. He eats her out in a moving carriage. It's a lot.
Devil in Spring by Lisa Kleypas has this as well--mostly because the hero is his father's (Devil in Winter) son. The Lords St. Vincent, once and future, are complete whores and love serving their lady loves.
I think Sweetest Scoundrel is probably the Elizabeth Hoyt book that matches this most? That and Scandalous Desires. Her heroes are usually a bit more on the brutal side, but in these books the men are like... gone. In Scandalous Desires the hero and heroine are fucking hard at one point, and she tells him she loves him in the middle of it, and he's too damaged to like say it back immediately, but he does instantly come inside her lol. Like. Just hearing I love you from her sends him over the edge.
The Wisteria Society of Lady Scoundrels has a steampunk fantasy Victoria romance take on this. The hero is a slutty pirate and the heroine is like "mmmm nope" and he just *_* the entire book.
Her Night with The Duke by Diana Quincy. Slutty, slutty duke has a one night stand with a widow at a tavern. Finds out she's the stepmother of the woman he's been courting. If you enjoyed the FORBIDDEN DESIRES aspect of season 2 of Bridgerton... lmao.... this has that down. He's like BUT I'VE TASTED YOUR ESSENCE and she's like "not as far as the record is concerned".

“It was a maddening image —
Little by little, the rooftop space filled up with guests. It’s impossible for a rum-sponsored party not to turn lively; and certainly, it has. While some are happy with their drinks and stay in the venue, drinking and dancing their spirits away — others choose to venture out, either returning to their rooms or getting lost in the maze that are the corridors of The Mark hotel.
In either case, the night is light and young, and there’s not a worry in their minds.
Little do they know however, that in the shadows, the Syndicate awaits.
— and the only way to whip it was to hang on until dusk —
Although the night had been planned to exhaustion, it’d been all but a coincidence that the operation had fallen on the same date as the party launch. It’s a blessing, at the same time that it’s a curse; more people circulating the area isn’t ideal — but a sea of potential issues isn’t so much so, if they’re impaired to begin with.
130 million dollars, gone up in flames. But they ought to make their money back, somehow.
So here the Syndicate hides, and at around 10:30, they strike. Swift and professional as ever, they go completely unnoticed — and they will take all that they can.
A highly effective heist, right under their noses. Those 130 million earned back in just a night.
No wild cards, no action that isn’t necessary, were the instructions given. Money, jewelry, art, anything of true value — that’s what they’re after. Designed as a victimless crime as far as bloodshed goes, the Syndicate still accounts for all. No issue, lest you get in their way.
— and banish the ghosts with rum.”
Unfortunately however, some unlucky few have. As instructed, should anyone be a concern, be it that they’re found in their rooms or other areas in the midst of the operation — they should be neutralized, by whatever means necessary. All with still keeping their anonymity, and succeeding at their tasks.
The pairs that have crossed paths are:
Ludovica Malatesta and Rus Ralston
Nora Vidal and Lee Malkovich
Zafar and Mathias Cain
Vir Zafar and Ibrahim Ziani
Abel Rousseau and Nik Erykssen
Oliver Wright and Jin Yoo
Tima El-Masri and Audra Smythe-Priestley
Avi Grover and Samar Burman
Max Szczesny and Enzo Principe
Karolina Erykssen and Samar Burman
OOC Info:
Part Two out of Three.
Part two will run for a few days, to allow for everyone to comfortably write their interactions in time; an update will be made both on the blog and discord for subsequent parts.
There is no requirement that people drop previous event threads set during Part 1 — but we encourage everyone to prioritize Part 2. This can be either through new fresh threads, or shifting your Part 1 thread into Part 2.
For characters not involved in the conflict, there are no restrictions to replying to starters (or continuing things) from Part 1, unless they were posted by someone, or are written with someone involved in the conflict. In that case, those starters may no longer be replied to. You’re also free to start any new things with other non-conflict characters as you wish.
If you wish to have any injuries (be them major or minor) or heavy impacting plots happen involving your character, please contact the admins so we can include it into the narrative.
Those in the conflict are encouraged to come up with scenarios where, mid-robbery, one would have the other held hostage. Be it at a hotel room, in some hidden office, or anywhere that is far from view and where there would be plenty to steal. They’re on a mission, after all. As always, if you have trouble coming up with ideas, the admins are always willing to help.
At the end of this post, we offer challenges to the guests. However, those are simply suggested interactions — and even if you choose to write it, your character is not limited to just writing those.
SYNDICATE CHARACTERS:
[ ALL SYNDICATE MEMBERS ARE WEARING NEUTRAL BLACK CLOTHING AND MASKS. IF THEIR CLOTHES WEREN’T NEUTRAL AT THE PARTY, THEN AT THIS POINT THEY WOULD HAVE CHANGED. NOTHING ABOUT THEIR APPEARANCE (THAT THEY CAN CONTROL) SHOULD BE RECOGNIZABLE. EVEN IF ENCOUNTERING SOMEONE THEY HAVE MET BEFORE, THEY ARE TOLD TO KEEP THEIR IDENTITIES SECRET TO THE BEST OF THEIR ABILITIES. ]
For Syndicate members especially, Part 2 should be prioritized so that plots can flow easily.
If you have Part 1 threads, we won’t ask that you drop them, but that you work your way into finishing them — with your characters, above all, keeping in mind that they have a job to do. It might be a night of fun for everyone else, but not them.
From now on, you can only interact with other Syndicate members, or the character you were paired with.
You can write as many mid-robbery threads with your fellow Syndicate members as your heart desires. Interactions amongst them are allowed, and absolutely encouraged!
As far as the rest of the party goes, you may only interact with the character yours was paired with, as one is the other’s hostage.
Your character should be focused in the robbery itself and collecting valuable goods. Anyone they’ve encountered is damage control.
Important: this is meant to be an incredibly secretive and smooth operation. Get in, get out, without causing disturbance. The main party should not have any inkling or knowledge that this is happening.
POINTS AND CHALLENGES:
Syndicate members and conflict volunteers will each earn 20 points for writing their paired threads. (It doesn’t matter if one character ‘wrote’ the starter; both members will be awarded points.)
All remaining characters will earn 20 points for completing the challenges prompted below. They are not mandatory, but we will reward you if you choose to go forth with them.
The points above will be awarded at the end of the event, to account for any starters going unanswered or quickly dropped, as we wish to be as fair as possible.
Surprise! We’re also rewarding conflict volunteers with 30 points for being wonderful team players and allowing us to use their characters for this plot. We adore you and appreciate you, so here’s a small gesture to reflect that!
CHALLENGES:
Jennifer Callaghan recognizes Izaak Walker from his internet presence, and attempts to strike an interview, or even a comment. Izaak knows it’s unadvisable to go forth with it, given all the rum ingested tonight.
Andrea Galán has been avoiding Aaron Keaton, until they cross paths. There’s an inkling or knowledge of her involvement with crime, and tensions rise.
Gideon Hayes is spotted by an off duty Joaquim Borges whilst trying to deal — be it to a random guest, or worst yet, the very detective himself.
Danvir Persaud thinks he recognizes Laith Hassan, from briefly crossing paths in the law-and-lawful world. There’s no reason for a sketch artist and a lawyer to engage however, until now — that they’re both trying to get a vending machine to work.
Renata Cervantes-Müller and Úrsula Villa are both powerful women in their own right — except that they share far different ideals, and defend different people. It’s been easy to avoid one another thus far, until the elevator doors fail, locking them in.
A dentist and the state’s most prominent politician walk into a... bathroom. It’s a classic, slightly awkward, run-in. Except this time, it involves Nicholas Bergeron — and Julian Berkeley.
Jakob Cervantes-Müller is a busy man, and the things keeping him busy aren’t the kindest. For prevention (and future endeavors), he needs a lawyer — and he’s heard Adam Starke is one of the best. What a coincidence, that their drinks just got mixed up at the bar.
Constance Romero, the Cartel’s informant manager, is always on the lookout for future contacts. Like some other select people, she’d heard of Lev Movska’s defection from The Brotherhood — and hell if she isn’t going to try and get all of that knowledge into archive for them. The enemy of my enemy, as they say.
With too much rum in their system, Lola Villarin and Diego Romero end up wandering — testing every other room for unlocked doors. Eventually, they make it into a suite; it’s all fun and games, until the lock won’t allow them back out.
Hazel Arthur and Ryan Fitzgerald barely look at each other, when touching up their make-up in the lobby’s bathroom. But they have to acknowledge each other’s presence when they realize they’re locked in — and Hazel hasn’t heard back from her partner in far too long.
They’d both had the same idea — the hotel’s fire escape as the perfect spot for a smoke break. Hans Starke and Zuleika Sandoval are now forced to share the space (that both claim to have found first).
Bob Bekker and Aera Paek, different positions at different publications. One man with success in his horizon, and a woman who can grant anyone it. It’s a throw-away conversation until the words fact checker come to rise. The best paper, after all, is the most accurate one — would this man do her the favor of failing, in exchange for a brighter future?
Araceli Aguilar suddenly stops Heather Hyeon Seo in the middle of the lobby, with an unwarranted prediction of her future. Even if Heather doesn’t believe in it, it’s intriguing enough that she must hear more.
Rahi Kumar is well known for his love of the sky, preferring to gaze upwards towards the heavens; it is this exact preference, that sends him careening into Andel Kenza, who scurries away from a main party room, clutching what appears to be an empty bottle of rum, a strange substance congealed on its base. The pair stare at another another - a stalemate.
Erin Katz was never a woman to wait for opportunity to simply knock on her door - she prefers to kick it in herself, a stiletto crashing through wooden panels. JJ Baptiste is a man who can make or break you in this city, and with the intriguing wallet she’s just found on the floor, she thinks she’s got enough leverage to earn his ear as he lords over a table in the back of the bar.
Moon Subin is currently scouting the media world, looking for new voices to either support his agenda in the press — or to simply gain insight. It’s unclear which Maureen Keaton could be, yet... but it’s worth a try.
FINAL NOTES
1 — If by any chance your pairing partner, or your challenge partner doesn’t get back to you — please contact the main page and we will rearrange things so that you may still write it! No one will be left without some event fun, we promise.
2 — If you’ve missed the window to volunteer your character for conflict, or you have joined recently and didn’t know about it, you can shoot the main page a message and we will do our very best to include you into the action. Only main page messages, please — as Discord will be hard to keep track of.
3 — As always, the admins are only a message away should you have any questions.
Part 2 interactions are now open. Have fun!

On 22nd March 1421, Scottish and French troops under the Earl of Buchan defeated English forces at Bauge in Anjou, France.
This was during the 100 year war between France and England, Scots troops were there as part of the Auld Alliance.
Henry V’s of England’s brother, Thomas the Duke of Clarence led 10,000 men south towards the Loire. They set about besieging the castle at Bauge when a Scottish army of 6,000 men commanded by the Earl of Buchan, they made contact with them the day before Good Friday. A truce was reached, lasting until Monday, so that the combatants could properly observe the religious occasion of Easter.
The English lifted their siege and withdrew to nearby Beaufort, while the Scots camped at La Lude. However, early in the afternoon of Saturday Scottish scouts reported that the English had broken the truce and were advancing upon the Scots, hoping to take them by surprise. The Scots rallied hastily and battle was joined at a bridge which the Duke of Clarence, with banner unfurled for battle, sought to cross. A detachment of a few hundred men under Sir Robert Stewart of Ralston, reinforced by the retinue of Hugh Kennedy, held the bridge and prevented passage long enough for the Earl of Buchan to rally the rest of his army, whereupon they made a fighting retreat to the town where the English archers would be ineffective.
Both armies now joined in a bitter melee that lasted until nightfall. During the melee Sir John Carmichael of Douglasdale broke his lance unhorsing the Duke of Clarence; since that day the Carmichael coat of arms displays an armoured hand holding aloft a broken lance in commemoration of the victory. Once on the ground, the Duke was killed by Sir Alexander Buchanan. The English dead included the Lord Roos, Sir John Grey and Gilbert de Umfraville, whose death directly led to the extinction of the male line of that illustrious family, well known to the Scots since the Wars of Independence. The Earl of Somerset and his brother were captured by Laurence Vernon (later elevated to the rank of knight for his conduct), the Earl of Huntingdon was captured by Sir John Sibbald, and Lord Fitz Walter was taken by Henry Cunningham.
On hearing of the Scottish victory, Pope Martin V passed comment by reiterating a common mediaeval saying, that the Scots are well-known as an antidote to the English.

To Have and to Hoax by Martha Waters
In this fresh and hilarious historical rom-com, an estranged husband and wife in Regency England feign accidents and illness in an attempt to gain attention—and maybe just win each other back in the process. Five years ago, Lady Violet Grey and Lord James Audley met, fell in love, and got married. Four years ago, they had a fight to end all fights, and have barely spoken since. Their once-passionate love match has been reduced to one of cold, detached politeness. But when Violet receives a letter that James has been thrown from his horse and rendered unconscious at their country estate, she races to be by his side—only to discover him alive and well at a tavern, and completely unaware of her concern. She’s outraged. He’s confused. And the distance between them has never been more apparent. Wanting to teach her estranged husband a lesson, Violet decides to feign an illness of her own. James quickly sees through it, but he decides to play along in an ever-escalating game of manipulation, featuring actors masquerading as doctors, threats of Swiss sanitariums, faux mistresses—and a lot of flirtation between a husband and wife who might not hate each other as much as they thought. Will the two be able to overcome four years of hurt or will they continue to deny the spark between them?

Nine Rules to Break When Romancing a Rake by Sarah MacLean
A lady does not smoke cheroot. She does not ride astride. She does not fence or attend duels. She does not fire a pistol, and she never gambles at a gentlemen's club. Lady Calpurnia Hartwell has always followed the rules, rules that have left her unmarried—and more than a little unsatisfied. And so she's vowed to break the rules and live the life of pleasure she's been missing. But to dance every dance, to steal a midnight kiss—to do those things, Callie will need a willing partner. Someone who knows everything about rule-breaking. Someone like Gabriel St. John, the Marquess of Ralston—charming and devastatingly handsome, his wicked reputation matched only by his sinful smile. If she's not careful, she'll break the most important rule of all—the one that says that pleasure-seekers should never fall hopelessly, desperately in love.
For the Roses by Julie Garwood
1879. In Blue Belle, Montana, everyone knew better than to mess with the Claybornes. The brothers had once been a mismatched gang of street urchins—until they found an abandoned baby girl in a New York city alley, named her Mary Rose, and headed west to raise her to be a lady. They became a family—held together by loyalty and love if not by blood—when suddenly they faced a crisis that threatened to tear them apart.... Trouble came to town with one Lord Harrison Stanford MacDonald. Armed with a swagger and six-shooter, he cut a striking figure—but it soon became apparent to Mary Rose that he was too much of a gentleman to make it in her rough-and-tumble town. She asked her brothers to teach him the basics of frontier survival, which he acquired with ease. And soon he possessed a deep and desperate love for Mary Rose. She returned his affection wholeheartedly... until MacDonald revealed a secret that challenged everything she believed about herself, her life, and her newfound love. Now her search for identity and meaning would begin, raising questions that could only be answered if she listened to the truth within her heart...

Biography
Byron was born to do much more than endure the life of an Earl. Truly he knew he had had the privilege of being born the second twin three decades ago. That and that sheer luck had always been on his side, not so much his brother’s to his dismay. Charles and Byron had done everything together; attended Eton and suffered their Mathematics professor’s boring classroom as a pair and sailed through the years together thick as thieves. They thought, as young men did, they would share every escapade and misadventure for all the years of their lives. But the one thing that they would not do together was share an Earldom, and for that Byron had no qualms. In fact, he relished in the freedom of being a second son given his affinity for shirking responsibilities.
When Charles was being primed to take on his station, Byron had yearned to explore the world. He would spew nonsense ( according to Charles, at least ) about learning the art of life and living the art and, one day, finally come to the decision of leaving home to carry out those intentions. Their father did not approve and was of the inclination that Byron should remain in England to find a wife and not go gallivanting across the Atlantic to an end that the 4th Earl of Ralston knew Byron would never deem satisfactory. Alas, a few months into his travels, Byron’s father passed suddenly. Charles had henceforth inherited the lands and titles of their father, sealing his fate as the 5th Earl of Ralston.
Halfway through his adventure across the continent, Byron returned to England to mourn and stayed upon his brother’s silent request. No words were needed between them, almost as if they could each read the other’s mind. However, Byron could not deny the call of the seas and the beckoning of the marble museums of Paris for long. The art in Italy were as pretty as the women but none had compared to the sights of Greece where he spent quite some time—more than the other cities. At the ripe age of 30, Byron had thought life was grand and that he had all that he needed and wanted. At least, that’s how it should have been.
Tragedy struck a second time and this time it claimed the one person in his life Byron had never been without—his twin brother. The grief was unbearable and yet, life had to go on. That is the art, isn’t it? Life went on whether he did or not. The things he had never wanted in life had now become his and the things that he did want had to be relegated. His priorities had changed almost overnight, making him into someone new, someone other. Now, a year into his Earldom and a year of answering letters and maintaining the land, Byron’s finally starting to settle the deep quake in his heart. But of course, bad things come in threes. This time, in the form of his younger brother’s mistake of inadvertently gambling away their only sister’s hand in marriage.
