In the LOUIS L'AMOUR'S LOST TREASURES POSTSCRIPT for The Lonesome Gods, (http://www.louislamour.com/novels/lonesomegods.htm) Louis hints at the spiritual and supernatural elements that the finished novel would come to touch upon: "A boy growing up in the mountains and desert, a boy growing up with the magic of the sun and the stars, with the desert plants the birds and the snakes, growing up with the realization of the strength and the beauty of it all. Let him grow into the country and let the country grow into him, let them be one in strength, in serenity, in inevitability. Let him view man as a part of nature, as a creature left to survive--if he can. #louislamour #losttreasures ... Fill this book with desert and Indian lore, with magic, hope, love and realization with at the end, meditation and great books, with poetry and philosophy. A story of a man living out his life against the back-drop of the desert. Let this be magic! " https://www.instagram.com/p/CjTfPoZvL-K/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Hidden Treasure Shaina Tranquilino August 31, 2024
Tumblr media
Denise had always been fascinated by history. As a child, she would spend hours listening to her grandfather, a retired historian, tell tales of ancient civilizations and lost treasures. When he passed away, Denise inherited his old house, a creaky, ivy-covered relic that had seen better days. As she began the daunting task of sorting through his belongings, she found herself drawn to the attic, a place she had rarely visited.
The attic was a labyrinth of dusty trunks, old furniture, and forgotten memories. Among the clutter, a small, ornate chest caught her eye. It was tucked away in a corner, almost hidden beneath a pile of old blankets. Curious, Denise pried open the rusted lock. Inside, she found an array of old papers, yellowed with age. But what captured her attention was a rolled-up piece of parchment, tied with a faded red ribbon.
Her heart raced as she carefully unrolled the parchment. It was a map, hand-drawn and filled with cryptic symbols. At the bottom, in her grandfather’s familiar handwriting, were the words: “The Lost Treasure of Elvenwood – Seek, and ye shall find.”
Denise could hardly believe what she was seeing. She had heard her grandfather speak of Elvenwood, a legendary treasure hidden deep in the forest. But she had always thought it was just a story. Now, holding the map in her hands, she realized it might be something more.
Without hesitation, Denise decided to follow the map. She packed a small bag with essentials, donned her hiking boots, and set off towards the forest, her heart pounding with excitement and a hint of fear.
The journey through Elvenwood was challenging. The forest was dense, with towering trees that blocked out most of the sunlight. The map led her through winding paths, across streams, and up steep hills. Along the way, she encountered strange symbols carved into the trees, just like the ones on the map. Each time she found one, it confirmed she was on the right track.
After several days of trekking, Denise reached a clearing. At its centre stood a large, ancient oak tree, its bark gnarled and twisted with age. According to the map, this was the final destination. She circled the tree, searching for any clues. Her fingers brushed against a small indentation in the bark, and she pushed. A hidden compartment slid open, revealing a small wooden box.
With trembling hands, Denise opened the box. Inside was a single, gleaming key and a note in her grandfather’s handwriting: “The treasure is not what you seek, but what you find within yourself. Use the key to unlock the door to your heart’s desire.”
Confused, Denise sat beneath the old oak tree, pondering her grandfather’s words. She had expected gold or jewels, but instead, she found something far more valuable: the realization that the true treasure was the adventure itself. The journey had rekindled her passion for history, filled her with a sense of purpose, and helped her reconnect with the man who had inspired her love of the past.
With a smile, she pocketed the key. It was not meant to unlock a chest of riches, but the future she now saw clearly. Denise knew that her life had changed forever. She would carry on her grandfather’s legacy, uncovering the stories of the past and sharing them with the world.
And in that moment, she knew she had found the real treasure.

Three of my favourite metal detecting finds I found in a shoe box of junk at Newark antiques fair recently. I’m hoping to use them in my work by taking a mold for ceramic reproduction. In researching the snakes head in particular (likely a bracelet end - Identifying Metallic Small Finds - Michael J. Cuddeford 1992) I came across an exciting blog post about Snake Jewellery in Roman Lincolnshire by Dr. Anthony Lee where they map out the discovery of Snake design rings and bracelets in the Lincolnshire area. Coincidently there is a concentration of finds around Ancaster, Sleaford and Sapperton, right on my own doorstep following the route of the High Dyke Roman road that is perpendicular to the end of my road. I’ve included the map (3rd image) from the blogpost (romanlincolnshire.wordpress.com). It seems Lincolnshire produced an array of snake design rings and bracelets during the Roman era possibly for amuletic properties such as portable healing or to invoke classical or local deities. . . . #romanjewelry #snakeheadbracelet #metaldetecting #metaldetectingfinds #lincolnshire #archeologylovers #romanamulet #metaldetectinguk #snakeend #romanlincolnshire #drantonylee #romanbritain #losttreasure (at Harrowby, Lincolnshire) https://www.instagram.com/p/Cp2mBcxoLS6/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Hi there!
I suppose an introduction is necessary! My name is Laelynn, but you can call me Lae. I currently have an apartment in Shirogane but my home and heart are on the First with my adopted family in Fanow! I am coming up on my 27th Eorzean birthday, however by actual years of existence I’m much much older, hehe.
Growing up in the treetops of the Greatwood gave me an appreciation for nature; both it’s beauty and it’s destruction. I work as a botanist in the Crystarium now, when I’m not on the Source visiting with friends or adventuring in the new world. I can’t wait for you to accompany me on my adventures, and to share more of myself with you as time goes on!
————————————————————————
A note from the woman behind the bun: to follow along with Lae’s journey and story, here are some helpful tags! I can’t wait to get to know you all and connect with fellow WoLs!

In a land far, far away, in the days of yore, there were two stalwart adventurers named Amira and Koda. They were known throughout the land for their courage and their daring. They had journeyed to the ends of the earth, and had defeated some of the most fearsome beasts in the land.
Amira and Koda had always been drawn to the ancient world, and so they set out on a quest to explore the ruins of a long-forgotten civilization. They traveled through treacherous mountains and scorching deserts, facing danger at every turn.
But their courage and determination paid off, as they uncovered some of the most amazing discoveries in the history of the world. They found ancient tombs filled with treasure and artifacts, and they uncovered the secrets of a long-lost civilization.
Their adventures didn't stop there. They also battled giant prehistoric creatures like T-Rex, Velociraptors, and Triceratops, but with their wit and skill, they emerged victorious every time. Their reputation as fearless adventurers grew with every adventure, and soon they were known throughout the land as the greatest explorers of their time.
As they sat by the fire in the evenings, they would tell tales of their adventures to all who would listen. They had battled giant beasts and uncovered the secrets of the ancient world. They had proven that with courage and determination, anything is possible.

Oceanside tones are definitely the ones I'm most comfortable working with. I've been trying to put together some work with my ceramic beads in red glaze that I made recently and my brain truly wobbles throughout the process. Give me blues, turquoise, greens, jades and a splash of pink perhaps or yellow and I can just flow. Here's a new listing using the ceramic pottery beads I made with beautiful green, blue, brown and yellow glazes. I love the feather/heart and daisy design of this one from the vintage lucite pendant I found and created a mold of. I've also created a stack to go with the pendant above with a double terminated raw smoky quartz point, two raw aquamarine slices and an organic designed pottery bead with sweet circle imprinted sides. The necklace also contains reclaimed goodies with an Indian silver chain section with tiny heart motifs and a mother of pearl chain I repurposed. More new listings coming up. Available in my Etsy shop. . . . #ceramicheart #artisanalpottery #potterybeads #artisanbeads #featherpendant #doubleterminated #rawquartz #rawaquamarine #primitivejewelry #sustainablefashion #sustainablejewelry #reclaimedmaterials #losttreasures https://www.instagram.com/p/CgMK14qtxT6/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Just randomly I happened to find a very treasured item that I thought was gone forever. I was looking for something else entirely when I found this old envelope in an old file folder.
The envelope is from around 1984 or 1985 I wager, when I was around 7 or 8 yrs old, based on the address it was sent to. Inside the envelope was a short note on a single sheet of looseleaf and my G.I. Joe Mobile Strike Force dog tag.  The note reads as follows: “Dear Chris, Hi, I was to Keji about a month ago, and found your  chain and thought you’d like it back. Well, here it is. Bye, Susan.”
First off, for those of you who aren’t from around here, “Keji” is the local vernacular for The Kejimkujik National Park in southern Nova Scotia, which is now also a National Historic Site. I went camping there quite regularly with my fam as a kid. I would have definitely taken my G.I. Joe gear with me and obviously dropped this dog tag there on one trip. Susan was nice enough to mail it to me! (This was a day and age when people took the time to write a note, put it in an envelope and take it to the mailbox to return stuff they found that wasn’t theirs. Imagine!)
So, as for the dog tag itself. This would have been one of (if not the) earliest mail-in promotions that Hasbro did with G.I. Joe. It was part of the “Mobile Strike Force Team” package, which as a kid, was a truly incredible package. You mailed in, and then they sent you an introductory newsletter, a military style belt with the G.I. Joe logo on it, an official Membership Card, a cool poster (that I think was a thin plastic type material, and around 11x14 in size, and featured the image that I’m pretty sure was also the cover of Marvel’s G.I. Joe #1), A G.I. Joe iron-on logo,  AND your own personalized dog tag that had your name and address on it. Phew!
Well lemme tell you, that all was a HUGE deal to me when i was that age. That offer would have come out when I was 6 and lined up with the first year of G.I. Joe being on the market - 1982.
I can’t tell you what a joy it was to find this old dog tag that I completely forgot was returned to me years ago! It is VERY worn and the writing engraved is a bit hard to read at this point, but it’s been 30+ years!  I hope to possibly come across some of the other pieces from my Membership Kit but if you wanna see pictures, 3Djoes.com has a great page to show you all the items: http://www.3djoes.com/1982-gi-joe-mobile-strike-force-team-blockbuster-membership-kit.html
