ALL RIGHT, IT IS FINALLY HERE. THE COWBOY LOTF AU.

I wanted to update on Friday but editing took me so long that I spent the entire day checking the friggin American slang.

Anyways! I made this thing as a joke towards the Western genre, as a way to practice humour and adventure, and also because the LOTF fandom needed a Cowboy AU with your headcanons!!!!

I really missed a lot AO3 and I think this is a super funny way to come back and stick for a long long loooong time, so, I hope you like it :D <3

OMG HI HALEY HEE HEE

okay so essentially when Sam was a wee lad (About 12 years old) he was sent off to go live as an apprentice sorcerer! He spent most of his time in the woods and adapting to that environment near this village which was called the “Sunshine Village.” Ironic, because it’s always raining and cloudy there.

In order to become a full sorcerer and reach the height of his power, Sam has to save someone. Which he has done a lot of so he’s frustrated at this point because he doesn’t know what else there is to save. Mittens is his guide animal, who he can communicate with. He also uses his staff to cast charms and spells to keep his house a secret from people who just stumble into the woods.

Fun Fact: Sam’s character is based off of the song “Brandy (You’re a fine girl)” by Looking Glass.

Maurice is the fisherman’s son and pretty miserable with his life. He doesn’t go to school anymore, he never got the opportunity to have a college degree and after high school he stopped. He’s very short with people and the only thing he finds joy in is seeing the sunlight. Which happens like once a year.

Simon is the farmer’s son and dresses up like a scarecrow because he hates the crows. He usually sleeps in the fields and he’s super sweet to everyone. He’s usually seen with dirt all over his hands and he currently has a boyfriend mentioned in passing in a couple chapters of the story. He’s super interested in sorcery and how sorcerers live, unlike most of the people in the village.

Other characters exist, such as Roger, Eric, Robert, Ralph, Jack, Bill and Piggy but they aren’t fully developed yet so, these are just the in depth ones.

Ideas I have so far:

I don't know if I want to age them up (so their adults and I can make them drink) or keep them as children..

Ralph - Sheriff!! (Or, his dad is the sheriff, technically he's the deputy)

Piggy - Bartender (or provisions)

The choir members are a gang/bandits. (Side idea- the church is actually like.. bad, and that's the main origin of the gang so that Jack can still sing c#)

Simon - horse stead!

Roger - Bartender (undercover)

Maurice - really just hangs out, makes fun with the townsfolk and plays/sings in the saloon sometimes

Or! For another idea I have, Roger is still a bartender and Maurice is the horse stead -- they're taking piggy and Simon's place (who were already dead from the beginning)

Jack - Irish bandit that hides while blending in with the choir/rich men

And another idea!! The Lord of the Flies is like an old folk legend. Basically just the towns grim reaper

(maybe there's a festival to celebrate and give offerings to the creature??)

Horse ideas!!

I thought it would be funny for their horses to have the complete opposite of their owners

Example: Jack's horse is the sweetest thing and Samnerics horses hate eachother

These horses are Rogers, Maurice's and Simon's horse.

I only posted these three because idk how to draw horses and these are the only ones that looked good

Simon and Ambrose!!

☆⁠ I like to think that Simon is a horse stead. ... It only makes sense- so obviously he has a whole bunch of horses, but, Ambrose is his horse. Whom he raised since he was a pony.

☆⁠ Simon braids and puts flowers in Ambrose's hair. Even though the horse is about twice his size (obviously picture is NOT to scale)

☆⁠ Ambrose is like.. the rudest, meanest thing you could meet. Slightly has a soft spot for Simon, but still headbutts and bites him and whatever. (And Simon doesn't care.)

☆⁠ Unsure if I want to give Ambrose a pattern or just make his coat one color :)

☆⁠ Also like to think that Simon's hat is more like a strawhat, rather than the normal leather(?) cowboy hat.

Suggestion for the western au: what if instead of dead from the beginning, we get to see Simon and Piggy in their roles, but over the course of the story they get murdered and replaced by Maurice and Roger? And Ralph is frustrated for not having stopped it?

Maybe Simon saw something he shouldn’t have while walking the horses around, and the entirety of Jack’s gang went after him. The new horse steed Maurice seems chill and friendly but there’s something off about him that Ralph just can’t quite point to…

New introduction to the western A.U!!

Translation:

Piggy: so, uh.. what should I name her?

Ralph: I dunno. Whatever seems right.

Piggy: what d'ya name yours?

Ralph: Tex.

Piggy: Tex?

Ralph: mhm-hm. Y'know.. like, Texas.

Piggy: ... I'll name her.. uh.. Dakota.

(Maybe I'll make a short comic based on this idea :3)
