Lucifers VS Lucifers : Round 1
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Lucifer (The Sandman TV version)
Gwendolyn’s Christie does such a fantastic job in this role. Lucifer in this adaptation has such a calm demeanor but a terrifying aura. The battle between Lucifer and Morpheus is super cool because it’s more a battle of wit and intelligence than physical prowess and I love watching it.

Louis Cyphre x Reader | 04
Tumblr media
You and Louis are in his private garden. You had no idea he had one until he casually mentioned it. You were talking about how much you enjoy spending time in nature, so he suggested visiting his garden. He doesn’t like to talk about it because he believes others will not understand. Besides, he's a little jealous of this private space. He created it because he was actually envious of the Garden of Eden and wanted a place of his own. He enjoys spending time in the garden to relax and take a break from his busy schedule.
Louis is very proud of it and calls it his creation. There are numerous flowers and plants, but they all have share one feature: they are all black. Only a few have purple or crimson hues. He can spend hours explaining the various types of plants, particularly their names.
There are black bat-like Orchids, deep purple bell-shaped tubular Hyacinths, deep dark red Dahlias called Arabian Nights, Blacknights, Black Violets, Queen of the Night Tulips, Black Velvet Petunias, Midnight Ruffles, Primulas, Black Stars or Calla Lilies and other plants that bear names like Diabolo, Black Beauty, Black Coral, Black Prince, Night Embers, but his favourite is the one called Hello Darkness, a darkest Iris with its velvety, purple-black, ruffled flowers.
You think it’s lovely, a little gothic-looking perhaps. But you enjoy listening to Louis rattle off all these extravagant names. He knows a lot of things. However, the almost complete lack of colours creates a sense of melancholy.
“Don’t you like it?”
“No, it's—it’s beautiful, but it’s a little dark for me.”
“I see. Maybe I could add a touch of colour, what do you think?” before you can respond, he snaps his fingers, and more colourful plants and flowers appear from nowhere. You can’t contain your excitement.
“Oh, Louis… thank you! Can I collect them?”
“Of course, honey.”
The sound of heavy footsteps draws your attention; you’re about to turn around, but Louis gently places his hands on your shoulders. “I must leave for a moment. Don’t turn around, okay?” You hesitate for a moment, and he tightens his grip. “It’s for your own good, my love. Collect as many flowers as you want. I’ll be right back.”
You want to peek, but you're a little scared, so you obey him and begin collecting all those colourful flowers. You just had a brilliant idea and giggle in amusement.
Louis walks away to meet the demon who awaits him at the garden’s entrance. He’s in his non-human form and very scary. Louis is irritated by the interruption, but he lets him speak while turning to make sure you’re not looking. He doesn’t want you to get scared.
You keep picking the flowers and carefully intertwining their stems. You hope Louis enjoy this small gift.
“What are you doing?” Louis asks seriously, then immediately regrets it.
You jolt. Actually, you haven’t heard him return. You feel guilty, just like when you were little and made some trouble. You immediately hide your new creation behind your back, hoping he hasn’t already seen it.
“What are you hiding behind your back? What have you done?” he asks, winking.
“It’s a gift. Close your eyes.”
Louis smiles softly and does as you say. You giggle as you put it on his hair.
“You can open them now.” you say, smiling.
Louis opens his eyes, but obviously can’t see it, so he walks over to a small fountain and looks at his reflection. He gasps in surprise and brings his hand to his hair, which is adorned with a colourful flower garland. He’s really delighted with your gift and simply kisses you as he embraces you in his arms. “It’s very beautiful… thank you, my darling!”
“It really fits you, Louis.”
“I have something for you… come.” he says as he walks you through the garden until he finds what he’s looking for. Before you, there are various types of roses. Louis explains that even though they’re called black roses, they’re really just deep, dark shades of crimson, red, or purple, and he tells you that there are no black roses in nature.
“Choose the one you like.”
You’re conflicted about what to choose. They’re all lovely, but you choose the one with the deep red velvety petals and a very dark bud. The foliage is a dark green colour. Its strong smell intoxicates you.
“It’s called Black Magic.”
You reach out to pick it up, but you are stung by the rose’s thorns.
“Ouch!”
Louis takes your finger, a drop of blood falls out, and he sucks the blood from the cut. “You must be careful, honey.” then he takes the rose, removes the thorns, and places it behind your ear.
You go back to the fountain, and reflect yourself in the water.
“You can come here whenever you want, love. If only—” Louis freezes suddenly. Another visitor requests his presence. “Just stay here, okay?” he strokes your cheek with his finger, and you simply nod while staring at your reflection.
Louis sighs deeply as he approaches the newcomer, who faces him with a little grin. Louis raises a puzzled eyebrow, then realizes why the other can’t help but chuckle softly. He’s not amused by his expression and keeps staring at him, serious.
“What do you find so amusing? You’ve never seen a flower garland?” he scolds him in a stern, emotionless voce. The demon’s smile vanishes almost instantly. “So, what’s the matter?” he asks, but the other is distracted by your presence. The demon keeps staring at you while forming abominable thoughts about you in his mind. Louis notices how he looks at you and what he’s really thinking and loses his temper. He grabs him and shoves him behind a large bush. “Don’t you dare—don't you dare even look at her!” he hisses at him before releasing his grip, causing the demon to fall on the ground. “If I find out that you or your friends defy me in any way, I’ll personally torture you.” he says as he watches him walk away. “And tell them I don’t want to be disturbed under any circumstances, understood?”
“Louis? Look, a butterfly!” you exclaim excitedly as you play with a small black butterfly that flutters around you.
“'Coming, my dear...”
Louis pants angrily and attempts to calm down before returning to you. He hugs you too tightly from behind and kisses your temple.
“Hey, you’re squeezing me!”
“I’m sorry…” he lets you go of his grip. “What we were talking about?”
You shrug your shoulders.
Louis remains silent and stares at you. He’s like hypnotized.
“What is it? I’ve something on my hair—what is it?” you cry out alarmed.
“Shhh, it’s nothing, my love.” he whispers as he places his fingers an inch above your head, seemingly touching the air.
“Louis, what are you doing?” you can’t help but laugh. Louis’ face suddenly lights up.
“Keep laughing… oh, that’s so beautiful!”
“What is beautiful?”
“Your aura.”
Your pupils immediately dilate. “Could you describe it for me?”
“Of course, love—it’s like, well, it's like a kaleidoscope, with all these different colours intertwined like a rainbow, flowing above your hair and around your entire body. Today they’re brighter than other days. I assume you feel happy, don’t you? You love this place…it’s really a shame you can’t see it.”
“Like a fluid painting?”
“Exactly!”
“What colour is yours?”
Louis hesitates a bit. “It’s not as beautiful as yours.”
“Come on, tell me!”
“It’s mostly black with red flashes. And—wait a moment, there’s also a little shade of green.” he exclaims surprised.
“Oh, I love green! Yours is beautiful too!”
“You really think so?”
You nod smiling. Louis leans in for a passionate kiss, you go with the flow and close your eyes, kissing him back.
He leads you to a small alcove, surrounded by elderberry bushes. Louis gently seats you on the soft pillows, continues to kiss you while unbuttoning your blouse.
Before going any further, he makes eye contact with you, asking silently for your permission. You nod, smiling. All your worries have gone and you finally feel ready. He smiles back and kisses your lips once more. The next moment, you are walking on air, feeling the essence of pleasure mixed with pure happiness. You savor every moment, and at the end, you simply feel calm and fulfilled. Louis is hugging and stroking your hair next to you. None of you talks. There is no need for words. Only you and him, simply breathing slowly and living this precious moment, surrounded by silence in this lovely garden.

The Devils I Know - Top 9
Welcome to “The Devils I Know!” For this spooky time of year, from now till Halloween, I’ll be counting down My Top 31 Depictions of the Devil, from movies, television, video games, and more! Today’s Devil is a particularly mysterious malefactor. Number 9 is…Robert DeNiro, from Angel Heart.
Tumblr media
A friend of mine introduced “Angel Heart” to me about a year ago. Up till then, I had never even heard of the film, and…in hindsight, I find that completely baffling that the film somehow was unknown to me for so long. The movie is something of a combination of a neo-noir murder mystery, a psychological horror story, and a supernatural thriller, all rolled into one. A little bit like “Constantine” or “The Prophecy,” both of which I mentioned earlier in the list. However, this movie is much more grounded than those films: there is no great cosmic war between Heaven, Earth, and Hell going on here. It’s the story of one man, one world, and one mind in tatters.
The story takes place in the 1950s. Private detective Harry Angel – played by Mickey Rourke – gets a job from a mysterious, well-to-do client who calls himself “Louis Cyphre.” (If you think that alias is about as transparent as naming yourself “Mr. Devil Person,” don’t worry, because a.) the film itself makes fun of it later, and b.) even if the movie didn’t do that, I think that’s kind of the point, to be honest.) Cyphre is looking for a man who apparently owes him a debt: a singer named John Libeling, a.k.a. Johnny Favorite. The man apparently suffered shell shock after fighting in World War II, and has since gone missing. Harry travels to New Orleans to try and track Johnny Favorite down, and what at first seems like a standard missing persons case becomes increasingly more bizarre, disturbing, and complex as the detective digs deeper. I won’t give away the full ending of the movie, but naturally, it’s eventually revealed that the mysterious "Louis Cyphre” is, obviously, Lucifer. And, as you might just as easily suspect, the “debt” Johnny Favorite owes him is the man’s immortal soul, which sold in hopes of gaining fame and fortune as a singer. What I find most interesting about DeNiro’s Devil is honestly what I think I find interesting about the movie as a whole: maybe it’s just because I have seen so many mysteries in my time, but I sort of knew what the twist was going to be by the end of the film. However, the movie still kept me engaged due to its artistic merits and the strength of its performances. DeNiro’s Devil is the same way: even if you don’t guess automatically that he’s THE Devil, the way he looks and the name itself would automatically make it clear that something Devil-ish is going on with the character. But even knowing what we know, Cyphre manages to be a scene stealer and an intriguing portrayal of the Prince of Darness. He’s a very sly, slick, methodical Devil, and the way he’s shot, framed, and presented as a whole makes him feel almost like a villain in a fairy-tale, which makes him all the more interesting in a story that’s so brutal and visceral as this one. DeNiro plays the character with effortless calm; this is another Devil who rarely shows his inner monster, but you can feel that monster brewing under the surface. He’s only in the movie for a few scenes, but in every single one of those scenes, you cannot take your eyes off him once he’s onscreen; he just rules every moment he has, and DeNiro seems to disappear into the part as a result. The moments between himself and Mickey Rourke as Angel are the best parts of the movie by far, and I could watch them over and over again without ever seeing the rest of the picture and feel just as satisfied as if I watched the whole thing through. To the friend who introduced this movie and this Devil to me…if you’re reading this, thank you so much. Tomorrow, the countdown continues with Number 8! HINT: Proof that the fast-food industry is the most evil thing in the world. Bua ha ha.

felt like talking about megaten demons again so here’s some official art of demons based on mostly american horror/sci-fi.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
list of names n extra notes:
audrey (audrey ii from little shop of horrors), betelgeuse (beetlejuice from… y’know, beetlejuice), chris the car (christine the car from christine), nickelwise (pennywise from it), friday (jason voorhees from friday the 13th), franken (frankenstein’s monster from frankenstein), terminator (similar to the t-800 from terminator), scanner (likely a reference to the movie scanners), and hierophant (pinhead from hellraiser).
yeah hierophant is an alternative nickelwise which is why i’m putting it here despite the hellraiser franchise spawning from britain. idk how hierophant got that name since i don’t remember anything in at least the first hellraiser that could warrant the alternative name. (could’ve called it idk spikehead if they wanted to avoid copyright.) technically this might not be the first time a demon’s design was inspired by cenobites as lucifer’s infamous redesign for 4 closely resembles them. similar reasoning for franken, being an english work. like stated before, most of these are taken from american works, especially stephen king.
there’s more stephen king demons, though like many enemies exclusive to persona 1 and is/ep, only spritework exists, my personal favorite being carrie. kinda a shame there’s been no character or persona in persona inspired by her, since the og book and film adaptations are the trippiest “dangers of extreme religious worship”/child abuse is wrong/anti-bullying things i’ve ever seen. (there’s also a movie sequel that’s basically the first with less religious extremism and more goth icon/dangers of frat boy culture/really good rock backing tracks.) idk the concept of psychic girl who gets bullied a ton feels like it would be right at home as an atlus rerelease extra girl.
of course terminator sticks out too. when it comes to forgotten smt demon, terminator is an icon in that department. outside of the guns being the same and being (presumably) a robot (idk i haven’t gotten around to playing smt 2 yet but there’s a lot of more mechanical demons based on all the art i’ve seen), the name is the closest it really is to resembling the t-800s. idk to me it feels like it’s different enough that bringing it back in at least one future megaten game wouldn’t be that much of an issue compared to other horror icon references. they could just change the guns/ditch the guns altogether and change the name. really cool overall.
scanner is another weird one that i kinda wanna see again just because it sounds like it could be cool. dude only appears in smt 1, and while fan wikis aren’t super reliable sources, because it gave off that “this has to be some reference to a cheesy 80s movie” vibe, i dug into the origins more. yeah there’s a canadian fic called scanners and yeah scanner is 100% based on the whole idea of scanners in the film. never seen it nor heard of it, but hey the director, david cronenberg, also directed the fly so it’s probably a fun watch.
friday’s design is technically wrong though it’s also kinda not. despite jason most often using a machete (and preferring to kill horny teens), a lot of references have him using a chainsaw.
chris the car is technically not completely gone. of course the idea of ghost drivers and the like in media are nothing new (though the car itself is the killer in christine) so for all i know i’m overthinking it or it’s a coincidence, but oboroguruma—a demon exclusive to dsrk 1 and 2–seems to take some design inspiration, having a similar destroyed bumper/grill with an exposed motor.
lastly, while not pictured here or anything, something i found out one time is that lucifer’s favorite fake name, louis cyphre, is a reference to the novel falling angel/its film adaptation, angel heart, though none of the various disguises resemble how he looks in the film. idk i found that an interesting tidbit.
kaneko was apparently into western media (which is unsurprising) so that’s likely the reason there was so many of these movie references during the earlier days of megaten. what i’m sure is due to copyright, many of these older demons never appeared again. copyright law does vary in different places and i’m sure for the few jjba fans who are reading this, you know just how lax japan is in comparison likely due to being western stuff and most copyright holders don’t have that much of an international grip. unless you’re disney. with the whole localization effort atlus might’ve not wanted to have to change a bunch of shit which i don’t blame them for. though with the existence of nickelwise and hierophant coming from tokyo mirage sessions, a pretty recent game (released in 2015 and rereleased on the switch in 2020) that doesn’t seem to have run into copyright issue or had to take them out in the rerelease as far as i’m aware, it’s not entirely impossible to see anything similar again. it is kinda sad though.
