Won’t you love me so tender?
Tumblr media
Summary: You just moved in with your bf, Danny Wagner, but he’s been occupied with recording recently.
Tags/warnings: Just angst and fluff folks~
Note: This is my first public fanfic so please go easy!
For half a year, you’ve been dating Danny Wagner, the drummer of Greta Van Fleet. While you loved their music and Danny as a drummer, you were able to manage snatching him without constantly mentioning the band itself. Not that he would have cared, but Danny was a sucker for some conversations about classic rock bands like Pink Floyd and Van Halen.
Just a few days ago, you fully situated yourself at Danny’s fairly large home in a more secluded part of Nashville. He couldn’t have been more ecstatic when you had asked to move in with him. It meant you truly wanted to this relationship to work and Danny loved commitment.
There you were, only a few boxes left to unpack. Majority of the left over shipping boxes were clothes and your many trinkets. Danny wasn’t opposed to a few of them being used for decor in your now shared room. He was a little more minimalistic and you were prone to clutter. Before going off to record with the Kiszkas downtown, Danny had set down the boxes with ease per your request.
Walking into the bedroom, you approached the box resting on the massive king bed against the left wall. There were several of your sweaters, most stolen from Danny’s collection, and band t-shirts folded neatly and compact in the box. You began placing the shirts in the long wooden dresser in a drawer cleared out by Danny. He also had shifted his clothes around in the walk-in closet for yours to fit too.
For most of the day, you hung up and put away your clothes. You also decorated the room with some picture frames, crystals, and other objects that you insisted needed to be set out.
“Ok babe that’s fine,” Danny had chuckled. “We just can’t over-do it or else we’ll suffocate.”
Many of the photos you put on the wall were of you and Danny on different occasions from touring to dates. With the lengthy days of recording music, you missed being able to talk alone with Danny about different topics that interested you that day. He was a perfect listener because he loved listening to you ramble on about your favorite things. However, Danny was an exception because he’d immediately become flustered when you cooed at him.
It was about 7 o’clock, which was what Danny set his curfew as because he promised you with dinner. However, the minutes went by and it was almost 8. You could understand why he was late with recordings going longer than usual a lot. But, you desperately just needed him with you and he had made a promise to be at home by 7 o’clock.
You were in the living room, curled up on the couch with a flannel blanket Lori bought for Danny a few years ago as a housewarming gift. You were watching Tik Toks on your phone when Danny texted you:
“I’ll be home super soon, I’m so sorry :(”
“That’s okay”
You didn’t mean to be agitated with him, but you were. He promised to be home with you after two weeks of long studio recording sessions, sometimes going into the late night. The only reason why you didn’t attend many was because you were unpacking. Danny helped when he could and you understood.
After about 20 minutes, the front door at the end of the hallway by the dining room quietly closed. You could hear Danny’s keys jingle as he placed them on one of the key hooks on the right wall. His shoes scuffed as you heard him shrug them off.
“I’m home,” Danny called as he walked into the kitchen, which connected with the the dining room through a large opening. “Let me set these groceries down real quick, babe.”
He shuffled into the living room with on of his grocery tote bags hanging low at his side. You wrapped the blanket draped around your shoulders tighter, just barely looking up at him.
Danny parted his lips to speak, but closed them. He placed the tote bag in front of you on the glass coffee table. Quietly walking away, your boyfriend went back into the kitchen.
While Danny was putting away groceries, making loud slams of the fridge and cabinet doors, you grabbed the beige tote bag. It was the one with a painting by Claude Monet on it, which you bought for him when you two were still friends. Opening the bag, you looked inside:
There was a Pink Floyd album which both of you didn’t have in your collections. The copyright confirmed it was vintage, but the cover was crisp and clean. You pulled out a small box held together with an emerald green, tied ribbon. You untied the bow from the black, velvety smooth box and uncovered a set of beautiful rings. Nothing from a jeweler, but they were gorgeous. You adored wearing and collecting rings, especially ones that were celestial themed. The six rings were antique gold and had bejeweled stars on them.
Your heart felt less bitter and you wanted to run to Danny with full confidence, but your attitude created a thick atmosphere between the two of you. You sat and tried on the rings, which were swapped out with the ones you were wearing already.
From the entrance to the large living room, Danny leaned against the door frame. You noticed and flushed a warm pink. Fumbling with the gifts by pushing them away, you finally met Danny’s eyes. You always melted when you made eye contact, but this time he didn’t hold his gaze for long when he quickly looked down at his calloused hands.
Danny’s expression was apologetic and wounded by his tardiness and your response. He ran his hands over one another and sighed.
The atmosphere was suffocating the two of you and your face finally crumpled like paper. You squeezed your eyes shut to prevent the hot tears from streaming out. It was unbearable to see Danny so hurt. You wanted to stay frustrated but you always gave in so quickly.
“Y/N,” He finally spoke.
You shook your head and trickles of tears escaped down your cheeks.
“Y/N,” Danny said softly, coming over and crouching next to the couch. “What’s the matter? Is it because I’m late?”
You pulled him to your chest and buried your face in his curls that delicately covered his shoulders. The tears came pouring down your cheeks, soaking the dark locks and knitted sweater Danny had on. Your hand came up and clutched the hair on the back of his head. Danny’s head now rested on your shoulder as well as you cradled it.
“I forgive you,” you hitched. “I just couldn’t stand to see…you hurt by my stupid attitude…”
Danny let you keep him in your arms, rubbing circles on your back. “Oh Y/N, I get it. I made a promise and didn’t make it back in time—“
“I know now that you were just trying to make tonight special, but still I need you,”
Danny let out a trembling sigh. “I’m here, baby.”
He pulled away and stood up. Wiping the tears from you face with a calloused hand, Danny lifted your chin up to meet his eyes. You sniffled and gave a half scowl when he placed a kiss on your nose.
Danny walked away to the instruments on the other side of the room; an acoustic guitar, keyboard, and bass huddled in a corner. He picked up the tan guitar and slung it over his shoulder. Danny came over and sat in the recliner next to the far side of the matching sofa.
“I was thinking about you during the studio, about how much I wanted to be home with you to help unpack,” he told you, meekly smiling. “I decided to come up with a little something during a bit of free time. I don’t have a title, but I know it’s for you.”
Danny began strumming on the guitar, filling the room with a sweet melody. He began singing a short piece with his soft vocals:
“Gorgeous and sweet,
There’s nothing that keeps me from smiling
When you’re here with me,
Won’t you love me so tender,
Take me by the hand
As we go across the land,
How did I get so lucky,
Being here with you
Traveling this Silk Road
Where the greatest treasure is you,
I don’t need much
Just my baby
It rips me to pieces to see
My baby fade away
I wish she would stay”
When the song finished, Danny’s tan cheeks were tinted with a warm Carmel. He grinned with you as you dried some leftover tears with the collar of your t-shirt.
You discarded the blanket from your shoulders and approached your curly haired boyfriend. Taking his guitar and laying it on the couch, you then bent down to kiss him. Your lips intertwined for a moment, drinking in each other.
“Thank you, angel,” You said, pecking Danny’s lips again and sliding into his lap. “I’m going to have to find a way to make it up to you.”
“I have a few ideas,” He smirked.
The End :)

The Firm - Epilogue
Prologue Chapter 1 Chapter 2 Chapter 3 Chapter 4 Chapter 5 Chapter 6 Chapter 7 Chapter 8 Chapter 9 Chapter 10 Chapter 11 Chapter 12 Chapter 13 Chapter 14
A/N: Happy Birthday to Me and this is my gift to you!
--- Two Years Later ---
"E! Come on, we need to go," LaNyah yells from in front of the full-length mirror. She is putting on her silver and black dangling earrings and smoothing out her dress. She chose an ombre maxi dress that starts as lilac at her neckline and ends in a deep purple at her feet. Her hair is pulled up in a slick top bun with a few loose curls on the sides.
Erik comes up behind her in black pants and an unbuttoned lavender dress shirt. "I think you forgot something." He looks at her through the mirror as his eyes meet her gaze. He holds her necklace in his hands, and it matches her bracelets and earrings. She holds her hand out to take it from him. "No, I got this. Stand still." Nyah is watching him through the mirror, tilting her head back as Erik drapes the necklace in front of her. Closing the clasps, he leans down and kisses her neck.
“Thank you, now go finish getting dressed.” She tries to step forward as Erik pulls her by the waist into him. “Erik, we do not have time for this.”
"You sure about that?" He continues to kiss along her jawline. Nyah closes her eyes and relaxes into his embrace. Erik grabs her hips, and LaNyah softly moans at his actions.
Pulling his hands away, she turns around, facing him, "No, we do not." She pulls his shirt together and buttons the top while fixing the collar. "You got the rest of this, right?" She pats him on the chest, "Good." Erik chuckles as she sashays away from him.
“Wow, really babygirl?" He finishes buttoning his shirt and looks at himself in the mirror. If someone had bet him money two years ago that he would be in a serious relationship, he would have double-downed and lost. But here he is, a California resident and living with his amazing girlfriend. He moved the base of his operations, and Green set him up with space in the GBI building.
Erik ended up buying the condo he stayed at when he first got to Irvine. That's where they are now. He decided to move after a year of long-distance and back & forth, traveling to visit one another. When he told LaNyah what he wanted to do, he told her that it would only happen if she moved in him. She was out of her apartment by the time his plane landed the following week.
Moving the business was the most natural part; he can work from anywhere. So, his former home office is now one of three satellite offices for his consulting company. He no longer offers personal security, but he has plenty of employees to call if needed for any job. There is only one person he wants to protect these days. He heads to the closet door to grab his jacket as Nyah comes back into the room.
“Really, E? I have been gone like five minutes, why aren’t you ready yet?”
“Sorry, I was just thinking.” Nyah was packing items into her clutch when she stops.
“You can’t think and get dressed at the same time?" She taps her watch, "Time is ticking." Erik jumps at her, swinging her around the room, causing her to laugh. "What is it, man?"
“Nothing.” He sets her down, putting his hands on her waist as she wraps her arms around his neck, “I love you.” She looks up at him and smiles.
“And I love you, too. But we gotta go. NOW!” She pecks his lips and walks back out of the room, leaving a smitten Erik behind. He will never tire of hearing that. He picks up his jacket and follows her out of the room.
Erik opens the passenger door for Nyah and gives her the presents when she is seated. He walks to his side of the car and jumps in. As he starts the car, he grabs Nyah's hand and kisses it before settling their intertwined hands on his lap. "So, why couldn't Ashley just celebrate her birthday with her husband?" LaNyah releases his grip and slaps his shoulder.
"Don't be mean. You know this is a special birthday for Ashley, and she wanted to be with friends and family tonight."
“Everyone turns 40. So, again I ask – what is the point?” Out of the corner of his eye, he can see her balling her hand into a fist. He catches it mid-air before she touches him, lowering her hand.
“True, but at least she is letting me help throw her a birthday party unlike someone I know,” she blinks and pouts at him. Erik looks at her and shakes his head. It was the only time he didn’t let her have her way. He grabs her hand again.
“Fine. Fine. But we aren’t gonna be there all night, right?” Nyah snatches her hand away as he laughs and puts his hand back on the wheel.
She looks out the window excited about heading over to Ashley’s house to celebrate her birthday with their friends. A few days ago, when they met for their weekly lunch date, Ashley shared something with her. And it has been hard as hell keeping it from everyone, let alone, Erik.
Erik. She turns to stare at his profile while he drives. It’s been about two years since they decided to take a chance on one another. And it’s been one of the best decisions she’s made. They have had a few struggles, especially since they started long-distance, but it helped each of them realize how much they meant to the other. You know that whole, 'absence makes the heart grow fonder.' She is a firm believer in that now.
Right around the time, Erik moved to Cali; she was offered a team leader position for the Accounting department. Six people now report to her about the same accounts that changed her life forever. And Stacey finally trained her on all that other system access, as well. Word has it -- they are the only two who have that kind of access for the company besides the CEO. She smiles, knowing that Alex trusts her that much.
They pull up to the house, and Erik looks over at Nyah. "Ready?" She nods, and he gets out, going to her side and opening the door. As he pulls her out, he lifts her up to him and kisses her.
“Will you stop?” She giggles at his pout, “What is with you, being so playful today?” She eyes him as he sets her back down.
“Nothing. I’m good.”
“Uh huh,” she was about to continue when they hear footsteps running towards them. “Hi sweetheart!” LaNyah bends down to pick up the little girl, smiling big and bright with her two front teeth missing. She’s Alex and Ashley’s 3-year-old foster daughter, Tiffany. She has been in their life for about 6 months now.
“Hi Nyah. Mr. Erik.” She giggles as Erik pulls on her pigtails.
“Why can’t I be Uncle E or something?” Tiffany looks up at him and shakes her head. He whispers into Nyah’s ear, “One day." She shifts Tiffany onto her hips, and she curls her tiny body around Nyah.
“Guess Mr. Erik has to take the presents in the house.” She laughs as he makes a face at her, “I seem to have my hands full.”
He pecks her cheek, “Go on. I got everything.” He watches as the two of them walk away. As he enters the house, Erik sees LaNyah talking with Stacey and Ashley while still holding onto Tiffany. He set Ashley's gift on the table and takes the wine and whiskey to the kitchen, where he finds Alex and Jai hanging around.
“Yes, thank god. I ran out of my good stuff last week." Alex rushes Erik for the bottle of whiskey, and Erik puts the wine in the fridge.
"You ok, guy? I thought family life was going great."
“It is, it is. Don’t get me wrong, but sometimes I wish we got a boy instead. You know I don’t balance more than one woman well.” Erik and Jai burst out laughing. “Not funny,” Alex replies as he pulls three glasses from the cupboard and pours them all a drink.
Erik daps up Jai, “So, how is the art world treating you?”
“Very well, man. I can’t complain.” She takes a sip of her drink, “I have a gallery opening next month. You and Nyah gotta come through.”
“She wouldn’t allow us to miss it.” He laughs into his drink.
"Who won't allow what?" Stacey asks as she and LaNyah enter the kitchen. She walks over to Jai and grabs her drink, sniffing it. She gags, "Nyah, they already started drinking the hard shit." Nyah passes Alex to go to the fridge, pulling the bottle of wine out, and Stacey nods. “So, what did we interrupt?”
Jai takes her drink back from Stacey. "I was just telling them about my show starting next month," Jai answers, wrapping her arm around her.
"Did she tell you that I was her inspiration for her latest works?" Stacey chirps, and Nyah laughs. Erik reaches behind him to get three wine glasses for her. She hands him the bottle of wine to open as well. Nyah watches the newest couple in the group.
Stacey and Jai met at one of the Paint & Sips that they went to, Jai was the local artist of that evening’s painting. Then after months of flirting and ‘lunch’ dates, they became an item. They have been together for about a year now, and LaNyah has never seen Stacey happier.
“Aye, don’t get drunk before we eat.” Ashley walks into the kitchen without Tiffany. “I can’t believe you guys.” Nyah walks over and hands Ashley a glass of wine, “That’s better. Dinner’s ready.” She pushes everyone towards the dining room.
Around a meal of lamb chops, roasted vegetables, and various salad options, the group catches up on all new happenings since they last got together a month ago. As dinner winds down, they take their dessert and conversation to the living room. Alex brings Ashley’s gifts over while Jai and Stacey refresh drinks.
Lifting up a big gift bag, Ashley pulls out a painted tote bag, and inside is a small paint set complete with a wooden palette and various sized brushes. She looks over at Jai, "I can go get Tiffany since you want to bring gifts for her instead of the birthday girl."
Jai lifts her tumbler towards her, “Mama’s gift is still in the bag.”
Ashley digs back inside, pulling out two envelopes. She opens one card, and concert tickets fall out. She picks one up off her lap, “To see Masego and SiR? OMG, I have been waiting for him to go back on tour.” She stops, “Wait, I can’t go. What about Tiffany?”
“Mommy deserves a day out with the girls.” Stacey responds, “Besides, I am celebrating my promotion. I can’t do that without my girls.” She waves her to open the other envelope. Ashley opens it and finds a spa day package for the works.
"Well, when you put it that way. Mommy does deserve all of this." She holds the cards to her chest as they all laugh. "But, I don't get the painting tote bag."
Looking towards Stacey, “So, we couldn’t help getting her something, too.” Jai answers. “And you can never start them too young.”
“Wow. Who else has something for her?” Ashley asks. LaNyah raises her hands as Erik points to her, “Unbelievable." Everyone laughs at that. Ashley reaches for their box. She pulls out a beautifully crocheted infinity scarf in shades of pinks, reds, and browns. Ashley cracks up with laughter. “OMG, no you didn’t.”
"Yeah, I finally got around to making you that scarf," Nyah speaks up. “I think this is much better than anything I could have given you at that time.”
“Erik, how many do you have?” Alex whispers to him, and Erik shakes his head in response and sits back with his arm behind LaNyah.
“Stop that, you, too. He loves everything I have ever made for him.” Erik sips his drink, not making any eye contact with her, “Okay. I see you. Ashley, there is more in the box.” Nyah points to it.
"I see that. And actually, we have an announcement to make." Alex helps her stand up, and Ashley holds his hand before looking at everyone, “So, we have made the decision to move forward and adopt Tiffany.” The group cheers for them as Stacey and Nyah rush Ashley.
“Great, because you already know that’s my niece.”
“And we all love her to pieces.” Stacey and Nyah blurt out.
Alex accepts pats on the back from Erik and Jai. “So, does this mean I need to bring a bottle every time I see you?” Erik jokes.
“Nah, I love my girls. I wouldn’t trade them for anything in the world.” He takes a drink of whiskey, “Why do you think I hired Stacey to become the new COO. I know she will be able to handle things for the entire company while I focus on my growing family.”
“Yeah, I know what you mean.” Erik looks over at LaNyah, who shoved Ashley’s box at her. “And that’s a great look for Stacey, too. She deserves it.”
“Open, open, open.” She begins to chant.
“OK Nyah.” Ashley pulls the final item out, and it’s a smaller version of the scarf that LaNyah made for her. She tears up immediately.
"I mean, my little sister has to be styling just like her Mommy." Nyah pulls Ashley into a big hug. All is quiet for a few moments, while the trio wipes tears from their eyes. Stacey runs to get some Kleenex.
“What is that?” Stacey yells upon return. Everyone turns to look at her trying to figure out who she is addressing. She reaches out and grabs LaNyah’s hand, “This ma’am.” She lifts her hand to show off the diamond on her right hand. “Why didn’t you tell me?”
“Well, well, well.” Alex looks over at Erik, who grins as he turns back to him and Jai.
"I was gonna tell you, but I just wanted to keep it to myself for a while," Nyah answers back.
“What?” He keeps his eyes on the giggly group of women.
“So, details. How did he do it? When did he do it?” Ashley pulls Nyah over to the couch with Stacey following them.
“Congratulations, E.” Jai pats him on the back. “Guess this is turning into one big celebration.”
"He proposed last month. It was simple and sweet." Nyah smiles, thinking about that night. "That's it. There's nothing more to tell."
"Thanks Jai." Erik looks at Alex, who is still staring at him. "Man, what?" Alex just shakes his head at him.
"Come on, Nyah." Ashley snaps her fingers in her face but realizes she is staring at Erik. "I'm not surprised, but it took him long enough,” she turns speaking to Stacey.
When Erik makes eye contact with her, Nyah blows him a kiss. He grabs it from the air and puts it in his jacket pocket, near his heart. Returning to the conversation, “Nothing, I just love my girl.”
A/N/N: So, we have come to the end of Erik and LaNyah’s journey. Thank you to everyone who has come along and enjoyed the ride. It has been so much fun.

thank you to everybody for all your support. i ran a poll for this milestone gift, and was overwhelmed with the support for final tour there. you have no idea... you have no idea how much that means to me.
so please enjoy this art and fic combo using the following prompts: final tour outtake + pining kid!levi, sweater weather, supernatural. (special note to the other final tour request: that is happening in the main story soon. ;) )
i love the shit out of you guys.
Levi’s too old to Trick or Treat. And he told Erwin that at least five hundred and eleven times, but he still has spent the past half hour at the dinner table cutting out triangles from paper plates to make cat ears. It takes him three tries until he gets it right, steals a Sharpie from Erwin’s desk and hastily colors them in, to then steal some tape from Erwin’s desk and attaches them to a handkerchief he found in the linen closet. He wraps the cloth around his head and ties it behind the base of his skull, adjusting it slightly by poking the tips of the ears with the centers of his palms.
“Ish cwoooked.” Erwin says, lips puffed out around big white plastic vampire dentures. He comes up to Levi and adjusted the cloth. He smiles big, the dried fake blood at the corner of his lip cracking across his skin. “Cooote.”
Levi sneers up at Erwin. “I’m a panther. Panthers aren’t cute.”
“Youuu lookth like a houssshh cath.”
“Take those fu--stupid teeth out.” Levi gathers up his mess and walks into the kitchen and throws it into the trash. He turns to face Erwin again and nearly shouts, “Gross!”
A string of drool connects from Erwin’s hand to his mouth, the fangs open and splayed on his palm. Erwin runs the sleeve of his dress shirt across his mouth, smearing red on the cuffs as he does. “Panthers have rounded ears.”
Levi walks up to him and takes a tissue out of his pocket. Ever since his sinus infection a year ago,he never left the house without at least four neatly folded into his jeans. He shakes the tissue out and dabs at Erwin’s lips before dropping it into his palm. “Shut up.”
“I can cut them for you.” Erwin’s grin remains intact, capped with silver bricks of braces across each tooth. “For accuracy.” He squeaks a laugh as he narrowly misses a fist into his stomach, and he follows Levi back out into the living room.
“I don’t even want to do this.” Levi huffs for the five hundred and twelfth time, gathering their canvas bags for candy toting. “Jeremy will...”
“I’ll take all of Jeremy’s candy before he even thinks of messing with us.”
Levi pauses, both totes slung over his shoulder. He quirks a smile and nods. “You should have gone as Robin Hood.”
Erwin crosses into the entryway, sits at the bench in front of the door, and pulls on his fancy loafers he wears at church. Levi follows and slips on his ragged and torn black sneakers. “Dad wouldn’t buy me a new costume this year.”
“You just turned fifteen...”
“That’s what he said.” Erwin looks up at him, lips thin, and his blue eyes popping vibrantly against the black collar of his vampire cape. “I don’t see what age has to do with it.”
Levi slips on his second shoe and pulls the door open. He looks behind him, at his best friend who has an imagination too big for his own good, doomed to be caged forever inside a life of discipline and education... And there’s a sadness in his eagerness that begs Levi for compassion that he can never quite escape from giving him. “I bet I get more candy tonight.”
“In that costume?” Erwin stands up and follows Levi out the door. He snaps on the button to his flashlight, and illuminates the dark porch down to the sidewalk as they begin their annual pilgrimage around the neighborhood. “That’s not even fair. You’ll only have more because they feel bad for you.”
“Asshole.” Levi quips, smacks Erwin’s arm, only to receive a rolling giggle from high in Erwin’s chest.
“Ok, ok. If you win, what do you get?”
“All your Twizzlers.”
“All right. And if I win.... Hmmm... I get all your Necco wafers.”
“Deal.”
They make it back home an hour later with their bags full of candy. They didn’t run into Jeremy even once, and Levi even received a compliment for being a very scary looking jaguar. They greet Erwin’s father in the living room before they make their way into Erwin’s room to dump their bags of candy out onto the floor to count their tallies. Levi wins, because he always does. Erwin calls for a recount, plays it like a political matter, and demands a second recount. He goes for a third, but, annoyed, Levi just starts outright stealing from Erwin’s pile, opening the wrappers, and shoving candy into his mouth.
“I forgot to wear my teeth!” Erwin says, throwing his head back against his mattress. He’s still wearing his cape and vest, but he’s removed the cravat from around his neck and it has somehow ended up around Levi’s instead.
“They looked dumb anyway.” Levi says, popping a peanut butter cup and an Almond Joy in his mouth at the same time. Chocolate pits at the corners of his mouth as he chews.
“I looked scary.” Erwin looks down his nose at Levi and smiles crookedly when he sees Levi rolling his eyes. Lulling his head forward, he raises his eyebrow. “How else will I suck people’s blood now?”
“Gnaw gently?” Levi imagines it for a moment... Erwin’s lips and teeth on his neck, and his eyes snap wide and feels the heat rising along his collar. He tries to think of Stacy at school--she’s kind of cute. Blonde hair, blue eyes... But her lips are shiny with lip gloss all the time, and they just wouldn’t... “Like an old man vampire. Gum them to death.” There. Old men are gross.
Erwin laughs. He helps Levi sort their candy out, giving all his Twizzlers over and taking all the Necco wafers in return. He chews on a caramel with his mouth open as he talks. Levi has given up on telling him and shouldn’t be eating sticky things with braces. “Imagine being turned into a vampire when you’re that old? After you lost all your teeth? Doesn’t seem fair.” He swallows loudly, and his forming Adam’s apple bobs as he does.
“Yeah, well, life ain’t fair.”
“Big words from such a small kid.”
“I’m not a kid.” Levi shoots. He throws a bag of fruit snacks at Erwin’s face.
“Ah, right, right. You’re in middle school.” Erwin laughs again and is tackled down onto the floor by his small panther counterpart. “Ah! My house cat has gone rabid!” His laughter turns to giggling as Levi presses his forehead roughly into his chest as he lets out a throaty growl. “I’m scared!”
Levi turns his head up and snaps his teeth at him. “Grr!”
Erwin pushes his face away and shoves him lightly to the side. He tries to escape, but Levi’s body has Erwin’s cape pinned to the floor and Levi pounces on him again, growling more like a dog than a cat. He keeps pinning Erwin as he tries to get away, the growling turning into mutual giggling, until the giggling ends and Erwin is pushing back.
“Hey, hey!” Erwin says, swatting Levi’s hand away. He unties his cape and tries to wriggle away. “Knock it off, Levi.”
“W-what?”
“That’s enough. Knock it off.”
Levi sits up and scrambles away. He’s breathing heavy and Erwin’s change in tone chills him straight through--like that time he was caught in the bathroom smoking a cigarette. “S-sorry.”
Erwin sits up and adjusts his vest. He shakes his head. “It’s ok.” He doesn’t look up at Levi as he swallows a few times and shakes his head again. “You just got me in the rib a little too hard.”
They rough housed a lot, had since their friendship first started. The surrenders never happened like this. “I didn’t mean to.”
“I know you didn’t. I’m just...” Erwin says. He stands up and runs his hands through his hair and sighs. “I’m going to go get ready for bed. Are you staying over tonight?”
“Can I?”
“We got you a new sleeping bag. It’s in the closet.”
Levi nods, still feeling a bit dazed by the change of mood. Erwin goes to his dresser and pulls out a fresh t-shirt, underwear, and sleeping pants and leaves the room without another word. He returns almost an hour later, hair damp, and a smile plastered on his lips. Levi had cleaned up the floor and put out his sleeping things, dressed out of his pants and cat ears, but still wore the oversized black sweater and his white crew cut socks. The uncertain guilt still roils around in his head and makes him feel sick. But maybe it was the candy. “I’m sorry.” Levi says again.
Erwin walks over and falls loftily onto his bed, arms out and legs hanging over the edge. Levi looks up at him with quiet curiosity. “It’s no big deal! I’m fine now.” Erwin gets up on his elbows and looks down at Levi, smiling still. “Thank you.”
“Ok...” Levi gets up to move toward the door to do his before bed routine, and to maybe throw up a little bit.
Erwin sits up properly and pots his hand on Levi’s shoulder. “I know you didn’t want to do this tonight. But I had a lot of fun. So, thank you.”
Levi studies him and nods, returning a soft smile. “I couldn’t have you go out there alone with Jeremy roaming the streets.”
Erwin laughs and lets his hand fall to the side of him in bed. He kicks his feet up and lays down properly, kicking the sheets down to the foot of the bed. Even in winter he rarely slept under the covers. “He’s such an asshole.”
Levi smiles wider until the grip on his heart strangles it away. He likes Erwin... Too much. “A dirty, smelly, shitty asshole.”
Erwin’s smile fades too as he closes his eyes. He’s asleep by the time Levi comes back from washing up, and he feels weird and sick and wrong that he can’t stop staring at him while he sleeps.
