Been trying to think of ship names and man. WHY is it so difficult.

I've been thinking something like rusted knife for Rust / Edge, but that seems so harsh compared to blood orange for Dusk / Stretch

I've also been wondering if cinnamon dolce would be a good one for Stretch / Lace or Stretch / Boss, I'm not sure which one I like better (or hell maybe even Lace / Clove)

I'm still really happy with black licorice for Lace / Abstract, but I've been thinking maybe red velvet for Lace / Edge ?

I'd like to come up with one for Luck / Edge, Luck / Boss, and Elester / Stretch (the first one I thought of for that was milky way, which is kinda cute but I'm not sold since that might be better for one of the outer variants) but I haven't gotten much for them yet

What job/hobby would Lace choose, if he could?

Very happy to talk abt Lace bc I've been thinking abt him a lot (valentines day is the main cause of this as it always makes me think of him <3)

Depending on when in his primary storyline, he'd probably give several different answers! Underground, he probably would've loved to work at Grillby's being one of the, uh, "servers", but unfortunately, he got roped into being in the guard before he really got the chance to consider anything else.

Post surfacing in a non-mv setting, he'd honestly feel a bit lost for a haute minute, but then he might get into something like journalism as a writer or photographer honestly! Sometimes i do wonder if he might become an accidental model, which is actually partially tied to the next answer-

While it may also eventually happen in a non-mv setting, i think it would happen for certain or more quickly in a mv surface setting, but he'd become a dancer! Though it's not something he realizes he wants to do until he’s already doing it lol, it was recommended as a sort of physical therapy type activity to help him find a healthier coping mechanism for his magic issues, and once he started, it wasn't long before he completely fell in love with it.

I say that ones partially tied to the model idea because a looong time ago, I'd had this whole little mental movie abt him getting asked to participate in a shoot/interview by a magazine guy who'd seen him dance. Since he’s generally out of the loop of mainstream media, he doesn't realize it's actually for a huge magazine, a story about monsters and how they've been finding their way settling into surface life amongst humanity.

Idrk how all that stuff works so you'll need to suspend your disbelief a little for that one, but basically just generally the idea of getting "scouted" and not really realizing it until suddenly people are calling and emailing him and asking about his "agent" and he’s like um hello??? What- but that one isn't as certain as the former two, which are definitely more solidified as part of his lore 👍

So basically that's all to say he doesn't usually pick jobs so much as fall into them lmao, he gets a little overwhelmed, but really, his heart lies in interacting with others and seeing the world. Very curious and friendly this one 💖

I got a sweet ask abt Lace I want to draw smth for but since im taking a drawing break rn and have two other things I have to draw first I will instead talk about him More bc I love him so much

Lace is honestly one of my most fickle and temperamental Papyri. Personality-wise he’s almost somewhere between Edge and Rus but with all of these specific issues brought on by the ridiculous amount of stuff he’s been through. So many of the others have a sort of "behavior baseline", but with Lace, the context of any situation he’s in plays a tremendous role in how he responds.

Since his type of 'Fell' is less straightforwardly violent and more about advantage, he errs so heavily into adaptability, tries to always play his cards right, which significantly exacerbates his Papyrus-y reflectiveness.

Yet at the same time, he somehow has more of a defined sense of self than a lot of the others. Perhaps because in order to know what he isn't, he must know what he is..? It's difficult to say exactly, but he’s good at "playing his part" like Edge, while he’s more self aware like Rus.

Unfortunately for him, that also leads to a lot of self image issues, because of the standards set by their world and trying so hard not just to meet them, but exceed them. Facing the immense pressure to protect himself and the ones he cares about like Edge, but it becoming so personal, it's rough.

But at his core, he really is so kind and sweet. Incredibly sarcastic and silly of course, but you know how it is, a rough stone worn smooth by the hardships. When allowed, he’s really such a big softie. He makes me so emotional, I have such a soft spot for him specifically <3

I would love some lore about Lace or Stretch!

I would love to give some Lore for both!

For Stretch, a headcanon I'm actually very fond of (tied amongst a tangled weave of many others) is that his "judging" abilities didn't really settle in until he was around 10-12!

It has to do with how differently things were for his and Blue's creation, and their whole deal with their Gaster, but typically, for the unswapped Sanses, I usually hc the judging ability was sort of just there since creation, nurtured and guided into what it becomes. With Stretch though, it had sort of been tangled up with his other papyrus-isms and didn't really pull to the forefront until the 8-16 age range.

Unfortunately, the biggest shift happened around the aforementioned age (10-12), when, sort of like a surfacing chronic illness, he started struggling with weakening health and inability to stop seeing others' souls. Eventually he got a handle on it, but not without the toll of his teen years being spent mostly bed ridden and anxiety riddled.

For Lace, sort of lore sort of a headcanon, but I love the idea of him becoming a dancer on the surface! As much as I am a very big fan of Ambassador (or similar) Papyrus, politics isn't really something Lace would enjoy. He'd do what he'd need to, as far as helping Monsters settle in on the surface, but especially in MV surface scenarios where there'd be less need for him to take that role, I think he'd eventually find a passion for dance <3 Primarily ballet, but really I think he'd enjoy almost any form of dance!

Fun fact! It's hard to see in most of my posted stuff w/ him but Lace's magic is actually two tone! Pink and red, and it changes depending on mood, leaning more into one or the other, tho both colours are still usually visible!

The reason i say i have like seven different versions of UF on rotation in my brain is because there are several different Styles of UF that i really like and can never really decide on which I'd consider my Main one, on top of also Lore, which i have a few different ideas for, too.

So like, we have the one i talk abt most often probably, which we'll call AngstFell, because. I'll be honest i love angst and i love doing terrible things to characters. This is the one where they have core issues, supply issues, food shortages, LVlost culling, very complicated and sort of miserable relationships between just about all of the characters. No One is having a good time pretty much, but despite everything, there is still hope...

Then there's how i often mentally refer to it as SillyFell, which is basically just like. If everyone in UT decided to try to be mean and was mostly really bad about it. In this one, things are still generally worse, but having LV is still somewhat uncommon, mostly only guards would have it, and people are generally more sad than they are mean/angry.

And then we have what's probably """closest to canon""" as far as my understanding of it goes, where it's sort of somewhere in between the two prior ones, in that there's definitely still silliness, and their UT selves aren't too far removed from them, but it still can get pretty heavy, and problems aren't as surface level as Silly.

Then we have my """fanon"""fell which is essentially something I've done for most AUs, where i try to imagine circumstances that could possibly, believably (by my own standards and interpretations) make the characters behave more in line with fanon portrayals. This one's way more difficult to summarize since the changes are more character specific, but generally, as far as "seriousness" goes, it falls in a similar place as "Canon"Fell.

And then there's Tale to Fell (v.1) which is essentially based around the idea that UF kind of started as UT, but slowly became UF due to Circumstances like core trouble and slightly different events going down with the humans, both during the war, and with what happened to Chara and Asriel. (End results are similar to "Canon"Fell)

But there's also Tale to Fell (v.2) which is based on the premise of UT slowly becoming UF after Frisk has fallen into the underground due to waaay too many resets and gradual code fuckery. (Opposed to v.1, this is actually a concept I've never seen explored before! Not to say it isn't out there somewhere, but i have a rough draft layout of a potential fic abt it that will...probably never happen bc it would take a lot of commitment lol)

So we have those bad boys, but then there's also differences depending on Lore. Like there's one version i think of sometimes where Papyrus is the older brother, or a version where Gaster didn't make Sans and Papyrus but was actually their adoptive uncle, and another with Gaster Papyrus where, as it goes, the incident that "shattered" Gaster created Papyrus, one where Undyne knew the bros as kids briefly, one where Asgore's just Terrible for like, no real reason, like. There are a lot of ways to think about it!!

And that's not even taking into account all of the Fell based story ideas like the psychonauts one, the one where the bros are gb shifters, one where Papyrus is [redacted], one where there's a zombie like plague outbreak that can only affect monsters with LV, one where Frisk winds up living underground with them all for a Hot Minute, and then of course there's the AUs, like Vesselfell, Horrorfell, Heartfell, Lovefell, Invertedfell, Orangefell, that mysterious one I've been mulling and have not talked about at all with Albatross-

Asking for au headcanons your choice on which au!

Au headcanons for !!! A bunch of random ones actually lol

✿ In sweetswap, everything is very pastel and soft looking, for the most part, so after surfacing, monsters are genuinely taken aback and a bit surprised how saturated and dense the colours of the surface are. They thought the books and movies might've been artistically exaggerated...

✿ Ice, Invertedfell Papyrus, doesn't have the soft spot for animals most other Fell Papyri have, but he'd actually be excellent at caring for them, and generally finds them easier to deal with than other monsters lol

✿ Void, of Vesselfell fame /j, wasn't always like that! I don't think I address it very often, but he didn't become a Vessel until around 12 ish. Before then, he was almost just a regular Fell Papyrus.

✿ Sylv, Underswap Undyne, focuses a lot more on biological sciences as the Royal Scientist. She's nearly more akin to a medical doctor with her knowledge and specialties, while Axel, Alphys, still has an interest in tech. They still met the same way as in Undertale...

✿ I'm not sure if I've talked about it here or not, but I have a Sometimes-Headcanon that after surfacing Underfell Asgore basically goes into a sort of permanent assistance/rehab type place. It's years before anyone visits (after the one time Gerson does shortly after surfacing), the first being Undyne, and then eventually Papyrus a few years later. Someone comes to check in him at least every few years after that. He’s...content, there.

✿ I've always kind of liked the idea of Grillby having hypnotizing magic, though he rarely if ever uses it, and it's not super strong/wears off quickly

✿ Dusk, Horrorfell Papyrus, can't paint like he used to, but he eventually comes to find comfort in doing what he can, mostly using his knuckles and laying a canvas flat on the floor. Sometimes his cats help lol

✿ Patch, Horrortale Sans, prefers milder weather, making Fall his favorite season. He’s not a fan of Halloween, but sometimes he'll nap in a pile of leaves when he’s done (or taking a break from) raking.

✿ Lace, Lovefell Papyrus, likes doing crafts! Of all kinds. Beading, embroidery, crocheting, wood burning (I can't remember what it's called, when you draw in wood by burning it), sewing, you name it! If it can be done by hand, he enjoys doing it <3

✿ Iris, Underswap Toriel, is an incredible singer. She sounds classically trained, and back in the day, people could hear her singing all the time. It's not so common anymore, but every once in a blue moon, she can be heard singing quietly in the throne room.

A little about Lace and Cire because idk just. Thinkin abt them.

My lovefell boys. They simultaneously have a better and worse relationship than a lot of my other fell brothers. Sans (Cire) was much more protective of Papyrus (Lace) when they were younger, which led to Papyrus being a lot more dependent on Sans as they got older. Unfortunately, Sans still kept a lot of emotional walls up, so while he was more supportive of Papyrus, he still didn't exactly "let him in", which left Papyrus feeling isolated more often than not.

Their age difference also complicated things, as Sans had to start working to support them when Papyrus was young enough to still really need him around more. Of course, he was old enough to understand, but that didn't really make it any easier.

While things in LF were...better, in some aspects, they were also worse in other ways, which complimented a lot of Papyrus' issues in the perfectly wrong way. Without receiving solid guidance, he tended toward unhealthier coping mechanisms and mindsets, and since they'd grown apart by the time Papyrus was a teen/young adult, trying to intervene usually just led to arguments and lashing out.

They both knew what was wrong, but not how to fix it without making things worse, so there wasn't much to do, especially considering they were sort of both right about knowing what was wrong...but not entirely. Like each had a different assortment of puzzle pieces, but both thought they had the whole picture. Which, of course, only made communicating that much harder.

In a happy ending scenario where they surface and both receive the help they need, they certainly wouldn't ever be as close as they could've been, and might even end up more distant than other fell brothers, but they'd probably be able to talk more healthily and clearly with each other whenever they did have the opportunity.

There's a lot more going on there but it deals a lot in specifics that I don't want to get into bc they're pretty heavy, but! Overall they could at least manage to salvage a decent relationship, and probably have quite a lot of fun poking fun at the other au brothers together in mv settings lol

Rus (undertale) - devoted knight. Not to one person, rather a cause. His friends and loved ones, protecting them, taking care of them, by whatever means he has.

Edge (underfell) - collapse. He works himself so hard, it was bound to happen eventually. He’s not going to learn his lesson.

Stretch (underswap) - overheard at the worst possible time. Whether it was his secret spilled or he found something out he wasn’t meant to, I feel like Stretch is very good at finding himself in the wrong place at the wrong time without fail.

Copper (swapfell metal) - (platonic) slow burn. He’s a stubborn asshole but with enough goofing off and late night talks, he might open up a little, and be better off for it.

Ghost (fellswap glass) - framed. Uh oh! Looks like you’ve been framed for a crime you didn’t commit, and now it’s up to you and you alone to find a way out of this. Good luck!

Uno (glitchedswap) - disappearance. It’s been many years since the sudden unexpected disappearance of Papyrus Gaster, but the hole his absence left still seems to be growing.

Heartfell Papyrus - soulmate birthmarks with a twist. That twist being that…he doesn’t seem to have a mark. Oh dear.

Lace (lovefell) - heartbreak in the rain. Self explanatory.

Rosewood (mafialovefell) - curse. He’s had a curse put on him, and only true loves kiss can break it...

Boss (mafiafell) - isekai. I would love to put his ass in a situation. /j but seriously. “Medical malpractice”. He is subject to experiments beyond his control. It does not end well.

Luck (mafiaswap) - lost the bet. Like rags to riches but in reverse. Will he be able to climb back to the position he once had?

Hawk (mafiatale) - poison. Uh oh! You’ve been poisoned. Is this gunna end at the hospital or the morgue?

Dove (horrortale) - second chances. He deserves a new lease on life, after everything…right?

Rust (horrorswap) - memory loss. He loses his memory in a terrible accident…but maybe that’s for the best.

Dusk (horrorfell) - life candles. And his has almost run out…

Ice (invertedfell) - (platonic) forced confessions. Trapped with a friend in dire circumstances and after a point, all they have left to pass the time is talking.

Clover (sweetswap) - flower shop. He’s always loved how colorful flowers are, even if he’s been partially colorblind since his accident.

Pictoris (outertale) - arranged marriage. But maybe it won’t be so bad after all..?

Aurigae - (platonic) slow dance. He gets pulled into dancing by a friend. He was having a terrible day, but…that helped. Maybe more than he’s even willing to admit.

Antares (outerfell) - space pirate. Is this a trope? I honestly don’t know but I love the concept and am standing by this.

Elester (demonfell) - absurd meet cute. He’s a demon, he needs to be placed in the story by extreme means, right?

Dos (glitchfell) - ghosts of the past. Something from his past is haunting him, and he can’t outrun it forever.

Void (vesselfell) - [redacted] coffee shop. He likes coffee :*)

Another nickname thing also. I've been thinking of Heisting Cherry from swapfell red sans and maybe calling Heartfell Sans Cherry? Because I'd been thinking of maybe calling Heartfell Sans and Papyrus Velvet and Valentine, but. I also kinda feel Velvet would be a better nickname for Lovefell Toriel or Asgore or something, since it'd go along well with Lace and Cire's nicknames coming from fabrics.

I've been toying with the nickname Valentine for Heartfell Papyrus for a while but for some reason it's just not really sticking for me? I don't feel like it suits him so well. I love the nickname though and was contemplating giving it to someone else in the au if not Papyrus but I'm not sold on it not suiting him either (my username is fitting. I am fickle, like the tide)

Anyone have any thoughts or opinions on the above inane rambling?

Honestly part of the reason I wanted to change Dove's nickname was because I thought it would fit better on someone in Heartfell, idk why I've been struggling so hard with nicknames for what, three years now??? I just want them to suit and sound nice yk?? ;;

Was looking up meanings and stuff in an effort to finalize some nicknames for the lovefell crew and I was liking possibly Aconite or Bane for Papyrus but then I got hit w/ a sort of like. Familiarity?? So 🫵 mutuals!! Do any of you have a papyrus or sans w/ that nickname or is it just smth else im not remembering
