Surgery/Life Update
My belly is still looking about 8 months pregnant. I wake up and apply the rubbery smelling abdominal binder every morning. Gotta hold my guts in as much as possible. It hurts. Some days the binder hurts more, some days it seems to help a bit. I've switched to tramadol (at my request) to stop the oxycodone. So far it's not much help, but I'm determined to stop opiates. Tramadol is weaker so it's a step in the right direction. Surgery is scheduled for November 9th, and somehow I have managed to keep my worry to a minimum. I'm keeping myself busy by crocheting gifts for my family and friends, watching Netflix, and getting out of the house whenever I've got enough spoons to do it. My sister will be here for the surgery and a few days after, so I think that's another thing keeping my spirits high. I miss her, and having her here will be a big help with the kids, too. We took the kids to the zoo twice over the weekend. One day we sat at the play structure and took in the sounds of the kids playing. I love to watch the kids interact with other kids their age. It's amazing to see my son look after his little sister. They are five years apart, and he's always got her back. I appreciate the way he watches and allows her to try things on her own, but always comes to her rescue when she really needs it. I like to think he mirrors our parenting, but nature or nurture... I'm so happy to see him growing into such an empathetic young man. Speaking of young man, he's started wearing deodorant. Hubby noticed that he has the "musk of a man" as he calls it. My BFF has a son a year older than mine and he has full on facial hair, and hit puberty at 10 years old. I'm terrified. I didn't hit puberty until I was 13. I can't imagine having to explain to my daughter at age 10, that she'll be bleeding for a week each month. It was difficult even at age 13 for me, but since I have had a hysterectomy she won't have the same exposure to the idea that I did. I remember perusing the feminine care aisle at Target while my mom chose what products she needed for that month. Even as a 5 year old, I was intrigued. Everything was packaged with bright colors. There were cute flowers and illustrations of women having fun. I remember asking questions, following her to the restroom, and even opening tampons from under the sink to examine them. The last year that I did have periods was really tough for me because my blood thinners I had to take after my strokes were causing me to bleed so much during my period that I was becoming anemic. That is the reason I had my hysterectomy. That is the reason I started using a menstrual cup and cloth pads. I would have gone broke buying products, and it gave me relief from the terrible cramps and back pain I was having. I will definitely be talking to my daughter about periods, but I hope she won't be blindsided because I don't have any. I hope she will feel comfortable using a cup and cloth pads, but whatever she needs, I'll be there for her. That was quite a tangent, but it leads me to another distraction. Blogging. Sharing my thoughts and documenting my life has been a great stress relief, and seeing the comments (only on Instagram so far... Come on over followers... Come to the tumblr side!) has inspired me and I've felt your support. I love my followers! Thank you all for your support and kindness. Please, always feel free to ask me anything.
