IT HAS ARRIVED
To celebrate the anniversary of Tears of the Kingdom's release, and to revisit Hyrule, we have put together a FREE 127-page cookbook zine for fans to enjoy. Link to downloadable PDF at the bottom.
About the Zine
The goal of this zine has been to imagine and capture snapshots of Link and Zelda’s internal and external journey between Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom. One of the central mechanics in both games is cooking; you cook to stay alive, you cook to improve your abilities, and you cook to forge relationships with other characters through side quests. We wanted to centre this mechanism, so decided to frame the zine as Link and Zelda’s joint travel journal.
In these pages you will therefore find a collection of short stories, small illustrations, and numerous recipes. Our team has been hard at work, collaborating and developing ideas to flesh out Link and Zelda’s journey.
Each short story is written from either Link or Zelda’s perspective. They are part narrative, part journaled notes. You will find that they have been given each their font to represent their writings. Zelda’s is the more refined one, while Link’s is the more sprawling one. I’m sure you will see the difference.
You will also find small notes and letters from other characters – notably Tulin, Teba, Riju, and Kilton – as well as an excerpt from the Lucky Clover Gazette.
The recipes themselves have been fashioned as though they were written by Link and Zelda. This does mean their fonts have been used, but we hope any difficulty in reading it is forgiven on the basis that the overall conceit of the zine is preserved. Should there be a great demand, we may look into creating a second edition using friendlier fonts.
As for the illustrations, these have been created both with the goal of illustrating the dishes – and processes where necessary – and to imply that Link and Zelda also illustrate their journeys.
All our artists, short story writers, and recipe writers have come into this zine with different skills and abilities. There may therefore be subtle differences in styles, which we have chosen to retain to exhibit each contributor’s personal flair.
Finally, I want to thank those who have contributed their time and skills to the creation of this zine: Alex, Cenza, Deldon, Mina, Rose, Sam, Scarlet, Terek, and Mr Theodore. It’s been a pleasure working with you all on this project, and I look forward to the next time our paths cross.
Thank you.

Print Files Instructions
These files have been formatted for an A5 Linen Wrap individual print through Lulu.com. The current listed price is £24.23 | $30.34 (shipping not included).
To give the illustrations a chance to shine, we recommend printing with Premium Colour on paper 80# White. To get your print copy, follow these steps:
Create an account with Lulu.com. It's completely free. If you already have an account, simply log in.
Go to 'Create' in the top bar and select 'Print Book'.
Click 'Start my Print Book'.
Under 'Select a Goal', choose 'Print Your Book'. Follow the remaining instructions on the page and press 'Design Your Project'.
Under 'Interior File Upload', upload the interior files found in the downloadable Print Files Folder (see above). This should automatically fill in book size and page count.
Under 'Interior Color', choose 'Premium Color'. For a cheaper print, choose 'Standard Color'.
Under 'Paper Type', choose '80# White – Coated'. For a cheaper print, choose '60# White'.
Under 'Book Binding', choose 'Linen Wrap'. The cover has been designed specifically for this and is not compatible with any other binding option.
Select your choice of colour for linen and print. We recommend tan (linen) and gold (print). These are the colours that will be on the linen wrap, underneath the paper cover.
Under 'Cover Finish', select 'Glossy' or 'Matte' according to your preferences. This makes no difference price-wise. We recommend 'Matte'.
Under 'Book Cover Design', upload the cover file found in the downloadable Print Files Folder (see above).
You should now be able to see a preview under 'Book Preview'. Check that you are satisfied with the result and select 'Review Book'. This will take you to a page from which you can order your individual print copy. Due to the size of the file, Lulu may take a few minutes to process the files before you can place the order, but this should take no more than 10 minutes. Simply go have something to eat, then refresh the page when you return and you should be able to order your copy.
Happy cooking!

I'm working on planning the layout for the Hero's Cookbook so I know what all needs to get done, and this is a MASSIVE project.
This project is going to feature:
24 full page illustrations
150+ recipes with spot art and/or photos
A glossary of ingredients, including conversions of in-game to real world choices and why they were chosen, featuring even more spot art
In total this cookbook will be between 200-300 pages, fully illustrated and in color. I have no idea how long it'll take me, but I'm excited!

Hi all, some quick notes for anyone who's registered their interest in the Link's Cookbook (edited by Zelda) project!
There's only eight of us in total, so I'm setting up a Discord server for us.
I've only once before created a Discord server, so please bear with me while I remember how to do this.
Work is pretty hectic this month (stock take, moving 2000 stock units onto a digital platform, coordinating festival programs – all to be completed by the end of February) so I'm slightly swamped. Again, please bear with me. The cookbook project is happening, it'll just take a bit of time to set up. I'll send out invites to those who registered their interest as soon as the server is vaguely functional!

I got to contribute to Homemade In Hyrule, a fan LoZ cookbook zine, and do art for my favourite game to boot!! Designing the Minish into my style was so fun that I couldn't do just one region and ended up giving myself 4 times the characters to draw. Imo, worth it.
(coincidentally, I saved this art so long that they're gearing up for vol 2 so if you didn't know about last year go check it out!!)

Following the release of Link's Cookbook, we've had a number of questions about ways to support the creators.
The zine itself is strictly no-profit. It was done on a voluntary basis by a number of talented artists and writers. If you try any of the recipes and want share photos or feedback, we would be delighted to receive them – simply send us an ask or a submission!
If you want to show your appreciation financially, we recommend you seek to commission the artists or writers, or donate to their current projects. To make this easier for you, we have collected the info from those who have it:
Rose: Art commissions
Deldon: Zelda-like TTRPG
Mina: Art commissions
Kalh: Art commissions, knitting project
We have really appreciated seeing the positive feedback to the cookbook, and hope you take the time to support some of the creators!

Fried Egg and Rice
This has got to be the easiest full meal on the list. If you know how to fry an egg, you are halfway there. If you have access to instant rice, you are practically set. If you like to be more creative with this recipe, i.e. using different rice, different spices, different types of eggs, go right ahead! This one is very open to changes due to its simplicity, and I even crafted one myself this time!! (Though I am sure someone somewhere has done it before so I still technically take no credit).
I take no credit for any of these recipes. This is a collection, not my own make.
Original Recipe in Game: Bird Egg, Hylian Rice
Tumblr media
RECIPE ONE: Microwave Jasmine Rice (my own preference and idea)
one or two eggs,
Uncle Ben’s Jasmine Rice
seasoning (such as salt, pepper, parsley, chives, spices, etc.)
cooking oil/butter for frying eggs
Follow the instructions on how to cook Uncle Ben’s jasmine rice in the microwave. While the rice is cooking, put a tablespoon amount of butter or oil in your frying pan in prep for the egg(s), putting heat on between medium to high. Once pan is warm enough, crack the egg(s) into your pan, ensuring that the yolks stay intact. Sprinkle desired seasoning. Cook egg(s) until desired preference is achieved i.e. sunny side, over easy, or well done. While eggs cook, take out rice from microwave into a bowl. Once cooked, place eggs on top of rice as seen in picture. Optional greens on side may be added parsley, or other green vegetable.
Video on Cooking Eggs
Never cooked an egg before? Look no further:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jSWWkQqmulY
This video also has the rice already cooked, but gives a close view of what your egg should be doing once it hits the pan. While it bubbles, be sure to add your seasonings as you like them. a pinch of salt or a touch of parsley can go a long way.
Video on Cooking Rice
Don’t want the instant stuff, but never cooked rice? Here you go!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xx7sxWI9FNI
This is the bare minimum of cooking rice in a pot rather than in a microwave, with a few pro tip options that are not necessary but can add flavour. It gives instruction on long grain white rice, short grain white rice, and brown grain. Depending on the many more types of options you may have of rice, the instructions on how to cook it should be on the side of the package when purchasing. Please use discretion.
You also have a slower cooker option if you have the benefit of owning one! Please check your machine on instructions and setting options as they may differ on power and timing.
