Baba Deep Singh ji was a Sikh leader known for his bravery and devotion to Sikhism also one of the most hollowed martyrs in Sikhism. He is remembered for his sacrifice and devotion to the teachings of the Gurus .

Baba Deep Singh ji was born on 26 January 1682 in Sandhu Jatt Sikh family. His father name was “Bhai Bhagta ji” and he was a farmer and his mother was “Mata Jioni Ji”. He born in Pahuwind village in Tarn Taran, Amritsar district of Punjab, India.

He was the first head of Misl Shaheedan Tarna Dal and first head of Damdaki Taksal, then head of Sharomani Panth Akali Buddha Dal.

The Battle of Amritsar, also known as the “Siege of Amritsar”, occurred in 1757. It was a fierce battle between the Sikhs and the Mughal forces. The Sikhs were defending the city Amritsar and the Golden Temple from the Mughals Afghan Army. During the battle, Baba Deep Singh offered prayers before starting “May My Head Fall At The DARBAR SAHIB”. Baba Deep Singh, who was in his 70s, displayed exceptional courage and determination. Despite being severely wounded, he continued fighting and ultimately fulfilled his vow to reach the Golden Temple. His act of bravery and sacrifice is celebrated in Sikh history and culture.

In 1757 on 13 November, during the Battle of Amritsar, he fought fearlessly and sacrificed himself . The Battle of Amritsar strengthened the resolve of the Sikh community and solidified their commitment to defending their faith and sacred sites. It also contributed to the historical significance of the Golden Temple in Sikhism.

He also fought the Battle of Chapal Chiri (1710), Battle of Sadhuara (1710) and Siege of Sirhind (1710) alongside with BaBa Banda Singh Bahadur.

His courage, dedication and legacy is a powerful reminder of the strength of faith and the importance of standing up for what you believe and also for religion. Baba Deep Singh Ji's unwavering determination and fearlessness in the face of adversity are truly inspiring. His commitment to protecting the Golden Temple and his willingness to sacrifice himself for his beliefs are qualities that inspires us to be stand up for ourselves.

Are there more stories about what demons Erlang has faced? Or more stories about him or where his character is included? I'm aware of Journey to the West, fsyy, the story with his mother and Lotus Lantern, but I was wondering if there were other stories where his character appears.

There are a lot of stories with him but they are more like legends than like narrative tales so to speak. Xiyouji, FSYY, and Lotus Lantern are novels and plays that allow full narratives that Erlang Shen features in but none really show the full extent of his character as he is more of a feature character than ever the protagonist.

Erlang's control of water is Erlang Shen's first and greatest achievement was water control and water control and made him a famous water god. With Erlang God's water control as the core, it radiates into legends such as killing dragons and slaying dragons.

Carrying mountains to catch the sun was from the Kaixi Period of the Song Dynasty, the "Inscription of the Induction of King Zhaohui Lingxian" describes the Erlang Shen as "the majesty of disturbing the mountain to take advantage of the sun, and the bravery of crossing the sea to capture the dragon.

The legend of Erlang Shen leading his divine soldiers and generals to search the mountains and succumb to demons can be found in the volume "Searching the Mountains", also known as the "Erlang Shen Searching the Mountains".

In the Five Dynasties, there is a legend about Erlang capturing an evil dragon. "Shu Shu": "The New Year's Banquet in June, "Guankou Divine Team" by Jiaofang Haiyu. The image of the two dragons fighting, the sky and the earth were dark for a moment, and there was heavy rain and hail. The Qing Dynasty's "Sichuan General Chronicle" locks the dragon: " It is said that Erlang locked the evil dragon in it. When frost falls and water falls, you may sometimes see it locked in the clouds."

In the Song Dynasty, there were a lot of themes of Erlang killing dragons. The Erlang who spent money usually rode an eagle and followed the dog. The entourage held a bow and stood a three-pointed two-edged sword beside him to subdue the dragon or the dragon transformed into a human body.

In the early days, Erlang Shen's divinity mainly came from Li Bing, who controlled floods. Guankou Erlang Shen controlled wind and rain, and Li Erlang's main deeds were also to capture dragons and control floods.

The "Stele Record of the Divine Blessing King" written by Zhou Hu of the Southern Song Dynasty (1170-1231) records that in 1206 AD, that is, the second year of Kaixi, Erlang Shen helped him fight against the Jin Dynasty and achieved a major turning point. Therefore, Emperor Ningzong of the Song Dynasty named Erlang Shen "Saint Martyr Zhaohui to protect the country".

As the belief in Erlang Shen spread widely, the priesthood of Erlang Shen also expanded as he was seen as a protector of the country's spirit. The "Nangong County Chronicle" of the Republic of China quoted Lu Zhongfu from Jin Zhangzong as saying: "In the autumn of the fifth year of Zhenglong (1160), the giant locusts covered the sky and ate all the acres. There were reports of hunger everywhere, the price of grain soared, and county people rushed to pray at the temple of Erlang Shen. The locusts dispersed and did not stay in the area. Fortunately, they were harmless at this time."

Erlang Shen is not only a god with vast supernatural powers and remarkable spiritual responses, but he was also regarded as the god of drama in the Ming Dynasty and was worshiped by Liyuan.

The Cuju industry also respects Erlang as the god of the industry and follows his character of playing games in the world.

Erlang God was revered as the "Lord of Sichuan" and became the god who protected the people of Sichuan from living and working in peace and contentment.

Song Zhang Tangying's " Sichuan Prayer " records: "(Qiande) in the second year of August, (Wang) Yan patrolled the north, and Prime Minister Wang Kai judged the guards of the six armies. The banners and flags were inexhaustible for hundreds of miles. Yan's military uniforms, Wearing golden armor, a beaded hat, and brocade sleeves, he holds a bow and carries an arrow. The people look at him and say he is like a 'guan-kou god'." Erlang Shen is equipped with a hound, an eagle, and a slingshot. It is a standard image of the hunting god, capable of restraining birds, beasts, mountain spirits, and wild monsters.

Because Erlang Shen carried a slingshot, he was attached to the function of delivering children by later generations. Because the slingshot is homophonic with "birth", it means birth. Almost every Erlang temple has people seeking children, which is the basic priesthood of Erlang Shen.

Tianqi was built in southern Fujian during the Chongzhen period of the Fengshan Ancestral Temple in the Ming Dynasty, the belief in Erlang Shen has formed a water god worship with strong local characteristics of southern Fujian in southern Fujian. There are now three statues in the Fengshan Ancestral Temple, which are called "Ambassador", "Second Ambassador" and "Third Ambassador", and "Ambassador" is the Erlang Shen in people's minds

I'm taking this all from his page so if you want a more detailed explanation I would suggest looking it into yourself because there is SO MUCH information about Erlang Shen being such a well-known figure and hero of legend that no way I can fit it all in one post but I hope this gives people an idea just how grand Erlang Shen's legend is and just how rich in both history and lore he is!

My god Gale being doubtful about people ability to love him is heartbreaking. I just imagine Maureen (and Bucky, and Lu and whoever else is nearby) just hitting him with affection and him being bashful about it 😫 that’s what works for me in Maureen and Gale relationship her outspokenness in what she wants and what (or in this case) she loves and his much quieter need for this reassurance. They really do balance each other out in so many ways. They are the sort of couple who spend evening socialising with friends or neighbours or just some people and debrief on the ride home about all the things they found out (not in a mean way!) On somewhat related note, I loved this snipped of their scheming over Brady’s jeep, do you have any other ideas of how those two lovingly meddle with their friend’s lives?

Aaah I’m so glad you see the balance of it. And for the record, I do so see Bucky being totally a part of their marriage in so many ways, particularly before his own. He’s just…integrated, essential, there.

But oh yeah. Got more thoughts for sure, thanks for asking 😁 I think they are not so much the meddlers as the one’s who simply get incorporated no matter what. Between being wanted and being thoughtful, they’re just involved. But that can be a lot. In fact, Gale needs a damn break after the war, he’s not doing as well as some, liberation wasn’t as liberating as it seemed for others and Maureen is able to act as his deputy as she always did in camp, protect him just enough while never blocking out the ties that he still needs to remind him he’s loved and very needed by others. Gale Cleven unneeded would fade away but he’s also a fucking martyr if he isn’t made to prioritize himself on occasion. But especially in that first year back stateside, with Ida back over in Germany with Rosie, I can see them really being the arbiters around which all the peacetime adjustments are formed, and it’s sweet that way.

Martyr, a journey of learning self worth, of learning how to continue living despite everything you've been through, is important Wisdom to learn for all the readers and Sky. Smoke & Ashes, a story heroism, of the Chain learning to push past their trauma and fear and embrace the Hero's Spirit and the Courage that Farore entrust to them (while Sky spirals into oblivion haha oops, we need to figure out how the Angstforce of Courage works for him LOL). It fits pretty darn well, honestly!

Episode 8 Breakdown

Nurse Bai thanks Officer Hongmei for saving her and her father and gives her a bracelet as a sisterly gesture.

Officer Tongbin who caught Nurse Shanshan drawing on Zhang A Shui washes the evidence away so she doesnt get disciplined.

Police Captain Chen and Ji Danyang rig up a radio listening device to try and the unit sets up a station to try and find KMT radio transmissions.

The Police team have a casual competition by shooting at bottles hanging by rope, Police Captain Chen proving his marksmanship by shooting the rope instead. They also find (and mock) Secretary Lu's poetry.

Ji Danyang is trying to arrange a larger testing pool for the submarine project and arranges a field trip and requests Officer Hongmei to escort him, making her take junk measurements as fun. She becomes aware of the joke and in turn makes Ji Danyang push the truck when it stalls on the way back. Their truck continues to have mechanical problems so they have to walk through the night and he struggles with the distance and survey equipment. They stop and have a slight heart to heart about their chosen paths, when they flag down a factory truck heading back to the facility.

With the permission of her superiors, Officer Hongmei asks Dr Bai to try and wake the comatose spy, but he is reluctant to try as the brain is difficult the heal, and in their conversation he asks her about her parents who were martyred in the liberation.

Dr Bai eventually agrees and the accupuncture works but Zhang A Shui refuses to talk and Security Captain Li keeps skulking around to find out what Zhang A Shui is or isn't saying.

This episode is a light hearted reprieve from the action, and we get a lot of cute moments between all of the young characters - the camaraderie of the police team, the sisterhood of Nurse Bai and Officer Hongmei, Ji Danyang and Police Captain Chen working together, the potential crush between Nurse Shanshan and Officer Tongbin, Ji Danyang helping Nurse Bai cook, and of course the ongoing antics and tension between our silly math man and Officer Hongmei.

They still havent learned how to properly talk to each other without poking fun or making accusations, but they seem to be improving. He teases her about having an ulterior motive to visit him but as soon as she says she needs to see Dr Bai he's instantly worried if she's sick. See? You are friends. Now act like it.

Ce soir sera le tournant décisif de ce qu'il adviendra du reste de nos vies. Ton existence et la mienne sont étroitement liées depuis qu'ils ont appelé nos deux noms pour nous envoyer mourir là-bas. Mais nous l'avons emporté. Je n'ai jamais voulu me soumettre à personne et je ne le désire toujours pas. 

Toi et moi, on est très différents. Tu es le plus réfléchi et le plus apte à t'adapter à ce genre de situations. Les gens t'aiment facilement, tu as ça en toi. Je suis plus dans l'émotion et je suis à fleur de peau. Je n'emporte pas facilement, mais je suis une bombe à retardement. Tu ne comprends pas comment je peux être douce et piquante à la fois. 

Je ne saisis pas comment tu peux continuer à me surprendre en étant toujours le même. Comment notre couple peut-il fonctionner réellement à leurs yeux et aux tiens ?

Ça ne m'intéresse pas. Tout ce que je veux, c'est arrêter de survivre. Je veux et j'exige justice. J'incarne le symbole de celle-ci, sans même l'avoir cherché. 

Mais maintenant, tu es entraîné là-dedans, toi aussi. Ne pense pas un seul instant que je ne ressens rien pour toi ou pour qui que ce soit d'autre. C'est juste que je ne supporte plus de vivre pour les autres, de satisfaire tout le monde, d'être manipulée et utilisée comme une arme. Je suis l'arme et le symbole d'une révolution qui n'attendait que moi pour exploser au grand jour et se manifester après autant de temps d'oppression et de soumission. 

Mais je suis encore une fois piégée et prise dans les filets de quelqu'un d'autre. On tire mes ficelles comme on le peut, mais toi, tu me connais. Toi, tu me comprends. Toi, tu m'as vue il y a longtemps. Bien avant tout ça. Tu as vu qui j'étais, tu as lu dans mon coeur et tu perçois la véritable moi. Pas l'objet. Pas le pion que l'on envoie porter toute une idéologie sur ses épaules pour finir par se faire tuer. Si je meurs, je deviendrai un martyr. Personne ne souhaite ça. Ma vie et ma mort elles-mêmes sont entre leurs mains. Je vis car je leur suis utile, et je ne mourrai pas avant que je ne le leur sois plus.

Pourtant, ce n'est pas toi qu'ils ont érigé sur le piédestal prêt à s'écrouler à la prochaine attaque, la prochaine secousse, la prochaine bombe. C'est moi. Parce que même si nous avons tous deux notre propre façon d'avoir vécu et réagi à la soumission, l'oppression, aux ordres et à la survie, même si nous sommes complémentaires et compatibles en tous points, c'était de mon énergie, de ma voix, de mon audace qu'ils avaient besoin. C'est moi qui ait tout enclenché. Parce que je souhaitai vivre. Parce que je refusais que toi ou moi ne mourions pour eux. Soit on repartait ensemble en vie, soit on quittait cet endroit morts. 

Désormais, la nuit est tombée, le moment est venu. Je suis sur le devant de la scène et ils hurlent mon nom. Parmi eux, j'en vois qui ont désespérément tenté de me ressembler. Comme si j'étais une icône de mode, une poupée placardée derrière une vitrine d'exposition. Un vulgaire pantin qu'ils pouvaient tous manipuler, une figurine qu'ils pouvaient tous s'offrir. Mon visage sur des affiches. Une image créée de toutes pièces, basée sur ce qu'on avait décidé de montrer de moi. Ce soir, ils m'aimaient tous. Ils voulaient tous me ressembler. Ils acceptaient que je retourne me confronter à la mort, et toi aussi. 

Sans même se souvenir que s'ils s'offusquaient également que nous ne revenions pas tous les deux vivants à la fin de la partie, c'était pour leur plaisir à eux. Leur divertissement. La loi. La justice. Je n'ai jamais cru en Dieu, en aucun dieu. Car dieu est une conception humaine, et je ne fais confiance à aucun Homme. En revanche, je crois en moi. Je crois que rien n'est sûr, et qu'un battement d'ailes de papillon peut faire basculer le cour de notre Histoire. Alors, pensez-vous vraiment que je serai incapable, et lui aussi, de provoquer un ras-de-marrée au cours de cette soirée ?

Et surtout, lorsque le feu qui brûle en moi finira par s'élever de ma cage thoracique pour m'embraser totalement, me laissant à moitié morte, au milieu de la capitale détruite et à feu et à sang... qui nous regardera encore ? Qui s'inquiétera encore de si je suis maquillée ou non ? Des néons ainsi que des paillettes ? De regarder son écran de télévision ? Est-ce-que, lorsque ce moment arrivera, ils se souviendront ? Dis-moi, lorsqu'ils t'auront détruit de l'intérieur et moi de l'extérieur, lorsqu'ils nous auront balancé au coeur de la guerre qu'ils ont entamé et que nous clôturons...
