That's new feeling..

Both Cassie and Maya are grown adults in this story!

Maya was used to Old Builders meetings. Maya was used to talking to Cassie. Maya was not used to feel this warm feeling.

For knowledge: it's happening after S2 and every villian there redeemed themselves.

Sometimes Maya doubted her tastes in people. Like, a lot. At first, she became friends with Gill and Aiden, who behaved themselves.. not quite politely to people around them. Mainly Aiden, but still.

Then she dumped Lukas, who was the only normal person in their group, just because Aiden said so. She didn't even care about Jason and his band as much as Aiden did, she was just glad that they all survived and she still dumped Lukas.

Not her best life choices.

And now she need to deal with this warm feeling in her chest everytime she sees her.

The red-haired girl with glasses who almost killed Jason and definitely killed a couple of other people.

Maya stood uncomfortably in the doorway, not knowing whether to finally go inside there or go back to her room and spent rest of infinity in pity pit to herself.

This so-called "Annual Meeting Of Old Builders" was held today. Not like they didn't meet each other outside of it, but this certain day was special and none of them missed it. Usually they brought their families.

For example, out of the corner of her eye, she could see Soren, Ivor, Harper, and Otto talking quietly at the table while Lucas and Jason cooed sweetly somewhere in the corner. As far as she knew, Soren adopted Lukas, and Ivor married Harper, so they were considered a family members.

On the opposite side of the room were Isa, Hadrian and Mevia. It seems that Isa introduced the two to Aiden, because he used to miss meetings because of trips to Jessica.

Isa, Milo and Reginald were parents figures for them since the whole Sky City incident. She was glad they didn't just threw them away.

Finally, Reginald and Milo were sitting on the couch, discussing something with Gill, while Cassie watched in silence.

Their eyes met.

Maya anxiously tucked her hair behind her ear, seeing how the girl smiled at her. This is not the first time they see each other or talk, but Maya had never felt this way before. She didn't feel it.. warmth inside the chest, butterflies in stomach, heart racing, call it whatever you want.

She did though that Cassie was beautiful. Breathtaking almost. But it's not like she's going to admit it. Too much problems for her taste.

She jumped up a little, squeaking when Cassie suddenly appeared next to her — «You're kind of silent this time.»

Maya was throwing knifes with her glare — «You shouldn't sneak up on people like that. I could've hurt you.»

«Would be nice to see you try.» — she smirked smugly, adjusting her glasses.

Maya hated to admit it, but her battle skills really weren't the best, especially compared to Cassie Rose.

Rolling her eyes, the brunette sighed — «Do you want to come to my room ..? It's quite noisy here.» — she awkwardly turned away, avoiding eye contact with the girl. It really was getting uncomfortable and she didn't knew why. Usually it was nice to see everybody, but this time she wanted some silence.

«Mmm, sure. Winslow, come to me, kitty.» — she turned her head, beckoning the cat from the couch, to which it lazily glanced at her before continuing to sleep. Cassie clicked her tongue — «Stubborn.»

«Just like you.» — the words escaped Maya's lips, before her eyes widened and she quickly covered her mouth with her hands — «I'm sorry! Sorrysorrysorry, I didn't mean that!»

Cassie chuckled, grinning — «Don't be. I like the straightforwardness.» — she lazily ran her hand through her hair — «So what were you saying about the room? I'm looking forward to see it.» — there was something mischievous in her eyes.

Butterflies in the stomach were bothering her, but Maya only nodded slightly, turning towards the stairs. It's totally not going to be easy for both of girls. But warm feeling in the chest? Was worth it.

Class is over, none of the Wilson kids are amused, Miss Coombes less so. Kennedy: Mom and Dad will kill me for this, I know it. I have to talk to the teacher, so she won't give me a report. I'll promise to do double homework, or whatever it takes.

Lukas completely forgets about the report, as he checks the messages he's getting from Lucas. Anika: Any news? Lukas: No, just Lucas being Lucas. Anika: Time to talk to him, don't you think? Lukas: Yeah, not right now. Otto: Hopefully Anika will accept my help with her experiment. that would be a good opportunity to hang out with her.

Mask of Deception Collection

(Note some drawings are old and low quality for some reason. Also, I might add more Drawings..)

The Mask of Deception Collection focuses on William and how he is dealing with the loss of his adopted sibling SnowRose. He unknowingly embarks on a journey to retain his sanity as he is forced to become this demon who shows no mercy. He meets some friends and enemies. But when he makes a small mistake, however. The entire world will go on a hunt for William and his friends. but all shall submit their souls to him. neither dragons, nor demons, nor being of flesh and blood, shall stand in his way.

Before I continue with this I just wanna say confidence that this year has been giving me a bunch of confidence and now I dare to practice other poses and full bodies. It’s not perfect as it is my first time doing a full body but I’ll improve I know I will.

I know people are trying to help me here…

“Listen, William, I’m here to make ya feel better. Trust me!” Otto said to William with confidence.

“I guess you can try..” William said still feeling some doubt.

But I can't help but think I am getting worse by the second.

“Dad, why is my skin changing, why are these random splotches on my face and Hands!” William asked his father Adramalech.

“Your demon son…It’s starting to corrupt you.”

I cross paths with the bastard that ruined my life…

“Lucas…..what the hell!?…. How!!….” William said confused but also angered at his existence

“Are you willing to help me out here Plague…?” William asked Plague hoping he would be willing to do so..

“Of course, anything to get rid of that murder again..” Plague said eager to kill Lucas.

Betrayed and Framed.

“What is happening…?” William asked.

“Dude! Lucas Framed us! We’re being arrested!…” Zeke said panicking.

“Wait stop!! We’re innocent!” Elizabeth shouted as they were surrounded.

I am taking risks to save my friends and myself..

“C'mon Elizabeth!! We gotta go!” William said dashing to the getaway vechile

“Yea! We need to leave..!” Zeke said waving at Elizabeth.

I am now wanted by the land.

“Guys..look up there….”

Elizabeth pointed towards a big screen of the Main Plaza of this Dystopian City. They all saw in shock. Their faces are plastered on the screen. They were now public enemy number one.

“We’re wanted!?” Zeke exclaimed.

“Great, It’s bad enough I'm being turned into a full demon but now I am being hunted...” William said, things surely couldn't get worse right…?”

I've met some interesting people.

“Hey..! You're that fugitive..” The strange dragon creature said.

“Uh…no…?”

I somehow accomplished showing the light in his darkness.

“William…How lucky you are to live in a world so beautiful…I can see why you live here…I mean a city where you aren't stuck in a piece of concrete where there is barely any natural light…Oh to live in a grassland…” Uthane couldn't believe where he was and what he was missing out on. He was shocked that for most of his life, he’d been living in a dystopian city with no green or stars on the sky.

Even when I change, however….I still feel the same…

“William…can you still… understand me…?”

Krueger asked William Slowly approaching him.

“Yes…I can…”

Maybe there is some hope for me…

Josephine: The party has been wonderful so far. Though, It's been hard to pin down the birthday woman. Roa: You know Colette, she can't be stopped from having a good time.

Roa: How is the family doing? Josephine: Trying. I need to Luca to settle down, he's been to fight the media. It's a cycle and he simply needs to get through it.

Roa: He's always been a bit headstrong but that's what we love about him. I'm sure it'll smooth over. We should get going, the speech will start soon.

Colette: I'm so thankful that I could have as you all join for me my hardly little party. Another year and another year happy, it's something that I hold dear to me. Something I'm extremely thankful for.

Colette: To be another year older and in still good help is a complete blessing.

Colette: I'm equally happy to have those of my charity and my family from Windenburg with us.

Colette: I might not be the best crown princess but I want to thank everyone that has cheered me on. I will strive to be better and become the best future monarch I can be.

Colette: For now though, let's raise our drinking glasses and enjoy the night!

Otto: You just had an entire party, shouldn't you be sleeping. Colette: You attended the same party but you aren't sleep yet. Otto: Point taken. Colette: I won't take up much of your time, I just had an idea.

Colette: The law of two kings. I think it's time it gets enacted.

[On April first, in class] "Ikuto-kun, this is how it's done." She spoke softly, before leaning back in her seat to wait for class to begin. Not long into the lesson, two little red dots blinked into existence on Miss Me's blindfold. They stayed there, the laser pointers delicately balanced in Kiyoko's grip where it could be concealed up her sleeve once the giggling in the class grew noticeable enough for Miss Me to peek out from under her blindfold.

He turned to look at the class president seated behind him, no clue as to what she was talking about, until he noticed she was holding something. As soon as he realized what they were he quickly turned to look at his teacher, who had two laser pointers positioned right on top of her blindfold.

His hand shot up to his mouth to muffle a laugh. "W-what are you doing? She's gonna notice." he whisper yelled at her over his shoulder.

Miss Me sensei stopped mid sentence, hearing the giggling throughout her classroom, & as she lifted her blindfold Kiyoko quickly turned the laser pointers off with a quiet click & tucked them underneath her sleeves. The teacher looked around the classroom of mischevious faces, & after a moment of silence, placed the blindfold back over her eyes, resuming the lecture.

Ikuto quickly turned around, giving Kiyoko a look that said 'I can't believe you just did that,' to which she simply smirked & responded quietly, "It's fine as long as you don't get caught."

Alessandro Borghi and Luca Marinelli, the story of a friendship

Theirs, and the one told in “Le Otto Montagne”, the film (from the novel Premio Strega by Paolo Cognetti) that puts them back together seven years after their consecration with 'Non Essere Cattivo'. We met them in Cannes

Alessandro Borghi is scared: «No, because now you see me like this, here at the Cannes Film Festival, with this green jacket playing cool, but in reality I'm afraid of everything. And with age it gets worse and worse". Two chairs away, Luca Marinelli looks around as well with a strange look, pleading: "Easy questions, please." When they don't arrive, he leans towards Borghi and asks: "Shall we change?". "Of course not" is the sly reply. On the other hand - you will think - we are at Cannes, not at the sausage festival, and these two are even running for the Palme d'Or with the Italian-Belgian-French film “Le Otto Montagne”, directed by Felix Van Groeningen and Charlotte Vandermeersch, based on the novel Premio Strega by Paolo Cognetti, in theaters this autumn. True. But the feeling is that much of the emotion comes from being at Cannes together. Like two (missed) Ferragnez* of the cinema. Because, in short, let's face it: Borghi and Marinelli are the most beautiful male couple around.

The first elegantly coatto*, complete with a tattoo that emerges from the neckline of the shoe and rises along the back of the foot; the second more of an intellectual cinema. Both are very talented and sought after. The two fell in love, sorry, they met in 2015 on the set of “Non Essere Cattivo” by Claudio Caligari: there they became great friends. They have always wanted to work together again: "We had a thousand projects," they confirm in chorus. But in fact, it never went down to the point. Until today. Seven years - and eight mountains - later, here they are, in fact, the “Cip and Dale” Borghi & Marinelli, more close-knit than ever, as enthusiastic as two kids on the first day of school. "We have always kept in touch, friendship has never been lost," confirms Marinelli while Borghi nods with conviction. «Claudio Caligari has given us this bond of incredible friendship, indeed this family. Felix and Charlotte gave us a new one, as a gift, after seven years». And you think: now Borghi gets up and kisses Marinelli on the mouth. Instead it doesn't happen. But it's like if that happened.

The two are very close. Zero envy, very good-natured fooling around and above all an understanding that pierces the screen. The rivalry? Not received. "I'm not competitive because I feel uncomfortable at any moment, even when events put cool things on me," assures Borghi, who, like Marinelli, has done a lot of cool things. But nothing: the two "love each other", and in a way that makes all women envious: with us, solidarity and non-profit friendship are not exactly that frequent, or at least not in the workplace. But we were saying. Together the two transform interviews into a funfair of jokes and truthful statements, and films into masterpieces. And if the film in question deals, like “Le Otto Montagne”, with the theme of male friendship, you understand that success is guaranteed. "The story passes through the filter of our friendship, and this is an advantage," they agree in unison.

The protagonists of “Le Otto Montagne” are in fact Pietro (Marinelli), a city boy, and Bruno (Borghi), the last child of a remote mountain village. They met as children, thanks to a vacation of Pietro in the mountains of the Aosta Valley. They take a liking (almost) immediately, in a relationship made of silence, visceral affection and deep human understanding. Life will divide them and then make them meet again (raise your hand if you don't read a simile…). It’s therefore the story of a great friendship or, precisely, of a great brotherhood: "Unfortunately we live in a historical moment where feelings seem anachronistic: we are no longer used to talking about what we feel or, when we do, we are always moved by the ego, by respectability or indifference. In short, it’s almost never constructive. This film, on the other hand, is full of things rooted in truth and reality,” says Borghi.

Then, in reality, in “Le Otto Montagne” there is also much more: a look at the mountain "not as a tourist", as Borghi points out; the charm of silence that silences everything to make only the heart speak; and a vision of nature that aspires to call creation by name. "You in the city say ‘I like nature’, but nature is an abstract concept, like your passion for the mountains," Bruno will say at one point in the film. «Instead I say: I like pastures, meadows, mountains. Not, generically, nature». Greta, step aside.

In making the film, Borghi and Marinelli had a great time. Before starting shooting, Marinelli insisted on making a psycho-magical gesture: he and Borghi, together with three other people of the production, wanted to spend the night in the house that, in the film, is the home built by Pietro and Bruno. Practically a stone house, with a wooden roof, freezing to death and lost at over two thousand meters. There they got drunk, ate sausages ("I skinned them all myself," Borghi specifies) and then went to sleep. Without succeeding, of course. From then on it was a continuation of hikes, milkings of cows and horizons of meadows and sky. A pleasure. And they enjoyed it all, to the end.

*Ferragnez is a famous Italian couple, Fedez and Chiara Ferragni

*Coatto is a word of the Roman dialect that indicates a person with coarse and vulgar ways and characterized in particular by a strong dialectal speech and tacky clothing.

Gru resembles Will Byers in Minions: Rise of Gru. He goes missing/was kidnapped(reminds me of the will-was-kidnapped-by-vecna-theories).

Kevin the Minion: Is Mike Wheeler. He’s the leader of the other minions in the movie and they seem to follow what he tells them.

Stuart the Minion: Lucas Sinclair. Often gets into fights with Kevin(Mike). Despite following Kevin(Mike) he also sort of does his own thing.

Bob the Minion: Dustin Henderson. He’s just amazing and everyone likes him. He’s the calm between Kevin(Mike) and Stuart(Lucas).

Otto the Minion: Eleven. While this one kind of hurts to say- it’s true. Otto is on a different arc from everybody else, and while he’s a part of the group, he’s fixing his own problems. Also sticks out like a sore thumb compared to the other minions.

Secondly: the Plot

Gru(Will) goes missing. Kevin, Stuart, and Bob go to find him. Kevin at first seems to lash out at the other minions as if “I’m the only one who cares about Will!” -- I feel like Kevin at one point said something among the lines “I’m the only one who cares about Gru” which directly parallels the line mentioned previously.

Otto is on his own plot. This is kind of a stretch but, it connects to Eleven remaining a part of the party but getting separated in Season 4 to fix her powers. Otto’s gone to find the gem with powers that he lost, to fix his mistake.

Lmao that's really it but it’s more than expected from the Minions movie. There’s probably more but it’s been 2-3 weeks since I’ve seen it so I forgot some of it. Lemme know in the comments if y’all picked up any other things or just have thoughts on whatever this post is.

the midwife’s secret - sorta liveblogging pt. xiii (last one!!)

22:05: ok I wasn’t going to write anything about the first five seconds, but Christian arrives in Meißen and tells the castellan about the messenger who summoned him, and that castellan is played by Fritz Roth. May he rest in peace.

22:09: Hedwig overhears the whole thing and tells Chris that she did in fact send a messenger - only to Randolf, not to Chris. She is sorry about the whole situation. Chris hops on Drago’s back and rides off.

22:11: Jonas and Karl (?) are being whipped. Randolf grins. Emma, Marthe and Grete (the old woman) hold onto each other. Wiprecht and Hildebrand yell “stop!” but don’t dare do more.

22:19: sorry, got distracted by last-minute political work. Anyway, Marthe sends Lukas to get Chris. She herself helps Jonas and Karl while Randolf’s guards are distracted by a prostitute. Griseldis watches.

22:36: [sorry, politics AGAIN.] Lucas misses Chris obvs. Chris is back at the village. That “I’ll wait for him to come to me” Randolf was counting on, it’s happening sooner than expected: Chris offers to confess to having taken silver in exchange for Karl and Jonas’s freedom. Randolf, of course, agrees. His men free the lads but take Chris captive. Randy randy tells him what he did to Marthe. Chris tries to attack. Randolf has him prepared for a duel.

22:43: ok stuff is happening, phew, let me recap: Chris and Randy duel; Randy is somewhat better, Marthe jumps on his back (after Hildebrand tried to hold her back). Randy stabs Chris in the (injured) right shoulder and drags Marthe to the river where he threatens to drown her. Nice parallel to her mother’s death, I guess? Wiprecht remembers he’s a character and yells “let go of my wife” before someone runs him through with a spear.

22:49: Marthe appears to be dead. Chris goes to fight/drown Randolf in the river. Arnulf, whom Lukas met at the castle, arrives and yells at him to let Otto judge Randy, because that’ll go so well. /s Lukas, Emma, Grete and ? Griseldis ? drag Marthe from the river. She appears dead for a few more seconds for dramatic effecct before she spits out water. Chris hugs her and picks her up.

22:54: Otto sends Randolf on a crusade to protect the pilgrims in Jerusalem. He makes Chris’s...fief? Vassallage?...hereditary, so “after his death his inheritance will not fall back to the Margrave”. Chris then summons Dietrich (the sick kid), whom Otto hugs and kisses, and Marthe, whom he asks Otto to elevate to his status so he can marry her. Otto be like, “you want to marry?!??!?!?!” yeah dude, you just gave him an inheritance, he’ll need children for that, won’t he?? But Lukas, Arnulf, Hedwig and Albrecht (?) seem equally surprised. Dunno which film they’ve been watching.

22:58: Otto agrees. Hedwig is semi-happy, everyone else applauds. THEN Chris remembers to ask Marthe if she even wants. Since Wiprecht is dead, duh, of course she does. They kiss. Then they ride home. Randolf watches them from the woods, hinting at a sequel which never came.

Fuck, it’s actually been two years, and now it’s finished. Hope you enjoyed the ride at least somewhat. Drago certainly did.

Coming up on a year since the pandemic started. I hope you're all healthy and safe. I am hopeful that vaccines will be deployed widely and help us all feel less anxious. I am fortunate enough to be one of those people who is happy as a bug snug in a rug while self isolating. I do really miss my dear friends and family but hugs can wait until we're all vaccinated.

My thanks to Doug for lending me these comic books to read.

Batman Annual #5 - James Tynion IV (writer) James Stokoe (art) Clayton Cowles (letters). It's the origin of Clownhunter and it's not very original. If I had to pay $4.99 US I would have passed on this and lived with leaving a hole in my Batman collection. If you're not familiar with this new vigilante, he's an Asian teenager named Bao who decides he's going to kill the Joker and all of the villain's sycophants. The reason he becomes Clownhunter (and killer) is very mundane. I wish they could have come up with a new motivator. Maybe the philosophical discussion about what to do about the Joker might interest some fans but I found this story quite tedious. I also didn't like the way Bao and his parents were portrayed. Did they really have an Asian saying "Ah, so"? Yes they did on page 8. Shades of Charlie Chan, Batman. I was not offended, just disappointed.

Batman/Catwoman #3 - Tom King (writer) Clay Mann (art) Tomeu Morey (colours) Clayton Cowles (letters). I was thrilled to see the town of Port Orange, Florida mentioned on the first page. My pal Al lives there. It's also where Selina finally catches up with the Joker and does what Batman never did. I love this Black Label book taking familiar characters and treating them in a new and interesting way. Here's a future where Selina has survived her husband Bruce's death and their daughter Helena is the new Batwoman. Now I wait to see how mother and daughter deal with the Angel of Death.

And now, more Future State books.

Future State: Robin Eternal #2 - Meghan Fitzmartin (writer) Eddy Barrows (pencils) Eber Ferreira (inks) Adriano Lucas (colours) Pat Brosseau (letters). The consequence of Tim Drake/Robin being dunked in Lazarus resin is that now he's immortal. Whoop-dee-doo. Not only is this a boring Robin beats up bad guys issue but the art lacked any logical perspective. This issue takes place on a train but you would think it's in a huge building based on the art. I know it's comic books but I hate when one doesn't make visual sense. I think that's just laziness.

Future State: Kara Zor-El Superwoman #1 & #2 - Marguerite Bennett (writer) Marguerite Sauvage (art) Wes Abbott (letters). This 2-issue fairy tale was not meant for old farts like me and Doug. With it's soft pastel colours these books should have included glitter and bubblegum flavoured lip gloss. Maybe young tween girls will like this. The moral of this story is "no one is born wise".

Future State: Dark Detective #3 - Mariko Tamaki (writer) Dan Mora (art) Jordie Bellaire (colours) Aditya Bidikar (letters). There are not one but two Batmans in this issue. You've got Bruce in his new capeless costume but here he's wearing a trench coat to give that fluttering effect, and then there's the new guy in the Bat suit, cape and all. The "uh-oh" point of the story hits here when the bad guys discover where Bruce is hiding out. The Matthew Rosenberg (writer) Carmine Di Giandomenico (art) Antonio Fabela (colours) & AndWorld Design (letters) Grifter story concludes here too with a double cross and a whole lot more of Helena/Huntress. This is my favourite Future State book so far.

Future State: Superman of Metropolis #1 & #2 - Sean Lewis (writer) John Timms (art) Gabe Eltaeb (colours) Dave Sharpe (letters). If you're wondering how a grown up Jonathan Kent takes over for his dad as Metropolis's protector then these two $5.99 US books will satisfy your curiosity. The villain of the story is an evolved Brainiac who is a big multi-mouthed ball now. Metropolis is shrunk ala the bottle city of Kandor, the citizens go nuts but Jon returns things back to normal in the end with the help of Kara/Supergirl. I don't know why Kara's a girl in this story and a woman elsewhere. Each issue has two back-ups so you get your money's worth. One features Mister Miracle and the other the Guardian. They are both dealing with bad things inside the bottled Metropolis. You won't miss much if you don't read them. The Mister Miracle story "The Metropolis Menagerie" is done my Brandon Easton (writer) Valentine De Landro (art) Marissa Louise (colours) Dave Sharpe (letters). The Guardian story is brought to you by Sean Lewis (writer) Cully Hamner & Michael Avon Oeming (art) Laura Martin (colours) AndWorld Design (letters). This one got me excited because a villain wants to throw Jimmy Olsen off of the Daily Planet building.

Future State: Catwoman #2 - Ram V (writer) Otto Schmidt (art) Tom Napolitano (letters). Read this to find out if Catwoman saves the lives of the people on the train. You will also find out if Bruce is freed from the bad guys. Talia Al-Ghul appearing is the deus ex machina in this story. I like the new Cheshire and Onomatopoeia is always fun.

Future State: Superman: Worlds of War #2 - Phillip Kennedy Johnson (writer) Mikel Janin (art) Jordie Bellaire (colours) & Dave Sharpe (letters). In "The Many Deaths of Superman" the Man of Steel fights in the arena of Warworld where Mongul resurrects him after every death match. It's the typical brutal battle scenes and super villain gloating. What's more compelling is an old newspaper story that Clark Kent wrote that inspired a young woman who travels to Smallville. I was totally confused by the three back-up stories featuring Mister Miracle, Midnighter and the Black Racer because they were not very good. I am a completist and have to finish what I start. I could have stopped reading after the $3.99 US main story in this bloated $7.99 US comic book but my obsessive compulsive nature wouldn't let me. It's a character flaw I wish I could change.

Future State: The Next Batman #1 - John Ridley (writer) Nick Derington (art) Tamra Bonvillain (colours) Clayton Cowles (letters). All the teasers for this book hyped the fact that this Batman is black. You won't get the secret identity in this first issue but there are a bunch of likely candidates. Lucas Fox is a possibility but it's confusing because he's a bad guy in another Future State book. This is another $7.99 US book with back-ups. These are more coherent than the ones in Future State: Superman: Worlds of War.

Future State: Outsiders by Brandon Thomas (writer) Sumit Kumar (pencils) Sumit Kumar & Raul Fernandez (inks) Jordie Bellaire (colours) & Steve Wands (letters) gathers together some old Batman associates helping Gotham City citizens escape persecution by the Magistrates outside Gotham City's borders. Get it? It was nice seeing Katana in action.

Future State: Arkham Knights by Paul Jenkins (writer) Jack Herbert (art) Gabe Eltaeb (colours) & Rob Leigh (letters) gathers together some of Batman's rogues gallery to fight the oppressive Magistrate. Two-Face, Mr. Zsasz, Dr. Phosphorus, Killer Croc and other ex-inmates of Arkham Asylum are being lead by an armoured Astrid Arkham. It's super villains being super heroes.

Future State: The Next Batman #2 - John Ridley (writer) Nick Derington (breakdowns) Laura Braga (art) Arif Prianto (colours) Clayton Cowles (letters). We learn the secret identity of the new caped Batman in this issue. It's Lucas Fox's brother. He has a brother? This also has three new back-up stories.

"Batgirls" is by Vita Ayala (writer) Aneke (art) Trish Mulvihill (colours) & Becca Carey (letters). Batgirl/Orphan Cassandra Cain gets locked up in the Magistrate Detention Facility where both good guys/white hats and bad guys/black coats are incarcerated. She got caught on purpose because her mission is to find Oracle and Batman and free them. She gets help from Spoiler who is queen of the inmates. In this reality Cass is way more articulate than she used to be. I didn't like that. I also didn't like that in the other Future State stories the Magistrate foot soldiers have a shoot to kill order for any masks that they encounter. Why are all of these masks alive? Anyways, this part ends with the white hats and black coats forming an alliance so Cass can get on with her mission.

"Gotham City Sirens: Ladies' Night Out" is by Paula Sevenbergen (writer) Rob Haynes (breakdowns) Emanuela Lupacchino (pencils) Wade von Grawbadger (inks) John Kalisz (colours) Becca Carey (letters). Catwoman and Poison Ivy spring a domestic droid named Dee Dee (get it?) from servitude and they have a night on the town at a bar. The bar is run by Sam Bradley and both super heroes and villains can imbibe in peace. Fans of Sex and the City may like this. Not a lot of drama until the last page when the joint is raided by Magistrate goons and major characters are shot.

Future State: The Next Batman #3 - John Ridley (writer) Nick Derington (breakdowns) Laura Braga (art) Arif Prianto (colours) Clayton Cowles (letters). This is the "uh-oh" moment in the story where the hero is felled by the villain. A wounded Batman is attacked by the murderer he's trying to bring to justice. I saw that coming.

I like the change with Black Lightning in the Outsiders back-up.

I like the art in the Arkham Knights back-up even though the dialogue is eye roll inducing.

Future State: The Next Batman #4 - Jace/Batman lives, as if that was in any doubt. This story would have been a lot more interesting if Bruce/Batman was really dead. Even if the Future State line of comics dies out this Next Batman is a cop out. The Batgirls story ends with Cassandra/Orphan saving Barbara/Oracle and the Resistance gaining ground on the Magistrates. The Gotham City Sirens story ends with Catwoman and Poison Ivy helping the Resistance get an advantage in their war with the Cybers thanks to Dee Dee.

I admit that I was sucked in by the hype for this mini. The Next Batman being black intrigued me. The story itself was meh and I would not have missed anything by not reading it. I was not engaged as a mature reader but I think someone in their teens might like all the stories in these four issues.
