Lucidverse - Chapter 3

Hello!

So this is the third and final chapter of my prologue for Lucidverse. Hope you like it. Honestly, I don't all that much. I know I'm gonna have to put in a few years into making digital art before I'm happy with the outcome, but in the meantime - uuuuuuuuggghhh...

I meant to make a chart to better explain the mechanics operating in Lucidverse, but I didn't. But you can see that Dream can suddenly become Shattered at times. Here, Killer said something that triggered Shattered into coming out. So some characters can become other characters, and that's what makes Lucidverse fundamentally different from other AUs.

I also gave Shattered quite a cruel, repulsive face here just to touch upon how intense things used to get between Nightmare and Dream. Honestly, it wasn't as repulsive as I pictured it. I need to work on that.

I will give you guys that chart at some point. And then after that, you're on your own! I'm gonna be all over the place, and I dare you to make sense of it!

It's funny. All of my stuff is from Dream's perspective, and yet it tends to highlight how beleaguered Nightmare is. Dream can be a real, unrepentant hardass. He tends to sacrifice a lot for The Greater Good at the expense of his family.

Oath of the Archangel

In the shadow of time, we rise—unchained from past and bound to future,

the Archangel’s wings unfurl, spanning across generations—

Relief to those in need, Nemesis to they without moral character.

With the sharpness of thought and the grace of wing,

the Archangel carves paths unseen, a master of shadows and light,

Princess Lucid Dream

She/Her - Alicorn - Bisexual Parents - Queen Twilight Sparkle & Starlight Glimmer

Lucid Dream, or Lucy as people call her, has always felt out of place wherever she went. Sure, she was not only the daughter of the princess of friendship but also two of the most powerful magicians Equestria has seen, and yet she never felt like she belonged anywhere. Getting along with others has always been a challenge, and it has  not been one she’s been willing to take.

Usually, Lucy would lock herself up in her room, avoiding anypony who would even come close to her. Despite Twilight trying to converse with her about it, somehow all the friendship lessons keep falling flat on her. Just like her mother once did, she always ended up locking herself away with a good book.

Unsurprisingly, being the alicorn daughter of both Twilight and Starlight has gifted Lucy with great power. However, unlike most other ponies would react in this situation, she does not take pride in this. In her eyes, wielding powerful magic can not only cause more harm than good, but also puts a huge pressure on her status.

Lucy also possesses the gift of dream manipulation, much like the former princess of the night, Luna. There are rumors floating around, saying that Luna gave the young alicorn a blessing. However, if this is confirmed or not, no one can verify.

does Lucid Dream dislike his own creator?

Are Sanses normally aware of their own creators? I haven't seen any AU get that meta.

I don't think Lucid is aware he is a character in his own story.

That said, he is aware of other AUs, of course, and he deals with hundreds if not thousands of creators. There are some creators he likes very much and considers his friends. But there is a certain class of creator who acts like little abusive tyrants that he hates quite considerably. He also can't help but notice that this privileged class seems to have many shortcuts at their disposal not available to normal creators.

what is Lucidverse about?

Lucidverse is a story about Dream sans if Dream became Lucid.

Lucid Dream is roughly 10 years older than Dream and well into adulthood. Those 10 years have been particularly brutal. A lot has changed.

Whereas Dream is a talk no jutsu pacifist, Lucid is not. He's violent to the point of genocidal, much like Error. Not because he wants to be, but because he perceives the lands under his dominion to be infiltrated with enemy forces, much like Error.

He also perceives the Bad Sanses to be his actual family and the Star Sanses as double agents - not actual "Sanses." He's trying to reconnect with his actual family members, Sanses whom he was led to believe were his enemies for a long time.

Rough Character Sheets

I drew my version of the Bad Sanses and various Dreams for my AU. Colored it in somewhat before my motivation took a nosedive.

I kind of wanted to push the MTT beyond their usual outfits. Like, how would they look if they kinda got their shit together. If Dust got back into the habit of showering regularly.

I think Horror starts adopting a more rural look because of how much time he spends with Farm Sans. Killer has a semi-punk vibe, and Dust has an anonymous urbanite thing going on. Cross has a tactical-medieval look going on, which I'd imagine would be hard to pull off, but he can because the man is visually impeccable.

Various Dreams and not a high heel in sight.

Made Swad's outfit less flowery.

Shattered looks completely different. He doesn't ooze like his brother. Instead, he has a severely fractured skull and bands of light around his head. He also enjoys slacks. Big slacks enjoyer.

Lucid sans is wearing my version of Thaltro's redesign for Dream sans. And sneakers because the man values comfort.

Healed!Nightmare is my least favorite out of the entire roster. This is how Nightmare would look if Dream woke up in his body and decided to be him for a day.

Classic Nightmare looking trim. Also wears loafers because he's an old man.

Lucidverse Ch. 1

Hey! So this is the first installment of my Lucidverse comic. Thanks for checking it out.

I imagine it doesn't make much sense yet and...yeah.. that's kinda how it's gonna be. So if you don't like ambiguity, then you're probably not gonna enjoy this all that much.

I will clarify that in this AU, Lucid Dream is indeed an adult version of Dream sans. Dream was a past version of Lucid. And Lucid does have memory problems. That's it. That's all I'll divulge for now.

I'm definitely more comfortable making this traditionally than digitally. Like, I'm trying, but screens are so slow. They don't pick up the sheer speed I need to make art. My hands need to move fast enough that I bypass my brain and go somewhere else.

Although I am kind of pleased that I'm too fast for the algorithm. Sensors. Whatever it is. TOO FAST FOR THE ROBOT. AHH HAHAHAHA

I am getting better with markers, I think. So that's nice.

Also, can you tell I'm a lazy artist? I very much am. I typically pencil something out, and since I captured the form of it, I pretty much succeeded at art. Done.

Consequentially, I'm absolutely terrible with color and keeping everything to five shades of gray helps me tremendously.

Even then, I pussyfoot around contrast and you can see it. Augh.

I also wanted them all standing in a canyon. Not enough people do things in canyons. There are so little backgrounds in UTAUs that I imagine them all floating in some colorful void. Well, no more! Now there's a canyon.

Thanks for reading my second chapter of Lucidverse!

This one is in color and I can't say I recommend it. Color: 3/10. It was looking like a mess until I found this ugly yellow to tie it all together. Thanks, ugly yellow.

I like to think they're in one of Nightmare's hideouts. Some dingy hole in the wall somewhere.

I was going to have another page of them staring blankly at one another.. three more pages, but decided against it.

Morning Dew + He/They + Teenager - Bi-curious Morning Dew is the son of the rising designer Pistachio and his husband Star Tracker. Dew isn’t shy like people think, he’s actually quite outgoing! However, he doesn’t like to speak out loud much. His dads don’t mind it though, and care loads about their pride and joy of a son. He has a talent for growing coffee plants, as well as brewing them. Dew is currently planning on opening up his own coffee shop in Canterlot, where he’d sell his home-grown coffee. He doesn’t plan on making it big, a small cafe somewhere hidden would be perfect for him.

Breezy Orchard - She/Her - Trans Lesbian Breeze is the child no one really saw coming. One of her parent is the energetic athlete Braeburn, famous for his stardom in the sport of Buckball, which isn’t surprising to anyone, as she is quite energetic herself. However, her other parent, Fancy Pants, is somepony no one could even imagine would be seen around a sweaty farmer pony. Fancy Pants fell for Braeburn for multiple reasons, and they were blessed with the most wonderful daughter they could imagine. Breeze is a surfer, and is proud of her talent. She doesn’t hang around the sea often, but when she does, all eyes are on her. She frequently visits the hippogriffs, as she believes they have the best waves to ride.

Bijou De Lis - He/Him - Trans Gay

Bijou De Lis, or simply Bijou, is the son of the high-class model Fleur De Lis and her world-famous designer (and Equestrian hero) wife Rarity. He takes after both of his mothers, as he is quite stubborn and full of himself, but he still has a heart of gold. He’s always had everything handed to him on a silver platter however, so he struggles taking care of himself now that he’s all grown up. Naturally, like one of his mothers, he is also a model. It’s something he’s been doing all his life, and he takes no shame in it. Him coming out stirred up some controversy among the Canterlot locals, but his mothers protected him from the negativity. He loves both of his mothers very much.
