I got three stores done in less than an hour and a half and yet it took me an hour to put things away and shower and then like two hours of ‘how did I do that by myself’ regret. I made mistakes. Don’t leave the house without hydrating!! Especially if you’ve just woken up and are already anemic and dehydrated and it’s very hot.
(Everyone in the House feels like shit so I told them I was going to do a quick stop and then restocked instead. I got a lot of hugs when I got back and I didn’t get in trouble since the store I said I was going to is in the same area as the rest).
Oh! The idea is that if I’m in an accident and don’t come home they need to know where I am or was if trying to find me. So everyone in the house tries to keep at least one person or the whole House in on where they are when they leave.
One time Say told me they were coming home from work early and ended up in a lab and for about 40 minutes I was convinced they’d gotten in a car accident (it’s happened twice so we have reasons).
And the reason I lied is because Say would have insisted on driving me and then we would have gotten there and Say would have been like ‘wait, baby I’ll come with you. You hate big stores.’
And then we both would have zoned out in Costco instead of me catching myself staring at flea medication and wondering when I’m supposed to put the new dose on Nightshade because I have several months worth but I forgot to mark down what day I last did it of last month.
And yeah.
*sidenote: I grew up with my parents tracking me everywhere and every way they could. I’d sometimes not take my phone places I should have just to make sure I wasn’t being tracked.
This isn’t control (tho if mutual consent that’s fine) this is safety precautions for the anxious and paranoid. The same way Say sends the group chat a picture of the back gate relocked and shut after trash night. So no one is worried about Nightshade getting out.
We find what works for us. As individuals, as partners and as a House™️.

We’ve been fans of Mickey Sumner since her memorable role as Sophie in the quintessential indie film, Frances Ha. So when she said yes to this year’s Lingerie on Film project, we were thrilled. Known for her layered performances on screen and stage, she’s also a devoted runner, puzzle enthusiast, and lifelong maker, with a BFA in fine art and a soft spot for disposable cameras. For this year’s Lingerie on Film, she turned her lens—and her sense of “playful weirdness”—on Araks. What follows is a conversation about grit, creativity, and the rituals that keep her grounded—from Epsom salt baths to horoscope readings, with a few mantras (and one Britney Spears lyric) along the way. ARAKS: Is there anything you would like to share with us about how you chose to take on this project? MICKEY SUMNER: Getting a bunch of disposable film cameras brought back such a rush of nostalgia - dating myself, I know! It was like being a kid again, before the era of iPhones and endless digital photos. I loved the inherent constraint of a disposable: the inability to instantly edit, review, and delete. In a world of instant feedback, it's easy to fall into the trap of self-editing, and there are fewer opportunities for beautiful accidents. Plus, there's just something undeniably gorgeous about film – it lends a unique texture to everything. Being given free rein by Araks to capture their beautiful and vibrant lingerie on film felt liberating, inspiring me to embrace my sense of playful weirdness. A: Can you tell us about your upbringing and background? What was your childhood like, and how was creativity and self-expression cultivated in your adolescence? MS: My childhood, largely spent in the UK, was steeped in creative encouragement. My Mum was always giving me paper, pencils, paints, and crafting kits, fostering an early love for drawing and making things. As kids, we saw a lot of art, a lot of movies, read a lot of books, and travelled a lot. When I was a teenager, I interned a bunch of times for the painter Stephen Hannock - learning how to mix paint and stretch canvas. In every school I attended, I naturally gravitated towards the art room - it always felt like a sanctuary to me. This ultimately led me to Paris when I was nineteen, and subsequently to New York City, to pursue a BFA in Fine Art at Parsons. A: Can you share your journey from studying art and design at Parsons to becoming an actor? MS: In college, my artistic explorations heavily leaned towards performance, with my body serving as both subject and medium. I crafted wearable sculptures and made films and installations that centered around my physical form. I felt incredibly inspired by New York City and the kids I was meeting - I was at Parsons but had friends at Bard, NYU & BU. In fact, it was the Josh Safdie who put me in his BU student films and got me hooked on acting and filmmaking. I started to go to acting class at night alongside my degree. And by the time I graduated, I just wanted to act - and I threw myself into theatre, reading workshops, short films, student films - anything anyone would cast me in. And that was that. It’s only now, much later I have gone back to making art with my hands again. A: You ran the Boston Marathon in April. What inspired you to take that on? Was there a moment when you thought, “I have to do this”? MS: In 2023, I ran the New York City Marathon for LuMind, a Down syndrome research foundation that holds a special place in my heart, as some of my son's dear friends have Down Syndrome. It was such an incredible experience- I loved it! Last winter, LuMind generously invited me to join their team again, this time for April's Boston Marathon. I was excited to fundraise again for such an important cause, plus the Boston Marathon is iconic - there was no way I was saying no to that! A: Running 26.2 miles isn’t just physical, it’s a mental game. How do you stay focused when it gets hard, both in training and in life? MS: I have two life mantras, one is “never boring” - even when things are hard, uncomfortable, painful - it is never boring. Maybe I have some masochist tendencies, but I love a hard challenge and I love proving things to myself. And I might be slightly competitive… . The second mantra I stole from Glennon Doyle, and I repeat “I can do hard things” again and again and again. I used that to get me up the notorious Heartbreak Hill in Boston. A: You spent seven years living with your character on Snowpiercer. What did playing Bess Till teach you, or leave you with, both as an actor and as a person? MS: Oh, I loved Bess Till - I miss her. She for sure taught me invaluable lessons: the powerful coexistence of strength and vulnerability, and the vital importance of questioning who and what we serve with our actions. She and many of the characters on that show were a constant reminder to think for oneself and your community, and not to be a blind follower of reckless authority and power. A: What kind of roles do you like the most? MS: Ones that scare the shit out of me. A: Training, working, and parenting, life sounds full. How do you take time for yourself these days? Are there rituals or moments that help you stay grounded? MS: I love therapy, I love working out, I love baths and face masks, and I use the Insight App to go to sleep, and I read my horoscope religiously on the CHANI App! A: When do you feel most yourself? Is there something you put on that makes you feel comfortable, or totally you? MS: My bathrobe after a long bath with Epsom salts :) A: What is something people might be surprised to learn about you? MS: I’m a puzzle nerd. I’m a New York Times Game junkie. I have to do the NYT crossword, Wordle, Connections, and the Mini every day. Also, if someone has a puzzle that is at least 700 pieces, I will try and sit in your house until it’s done. Dream collaborator–dead or alive? David Lynch. What is something you've loved for a long time? My parents. What is something you would love to learn? Fluent American Sign Language. What advice would you give to your younger self? Stop waiting for validation and permission. Can you share a favorite quotation, lyric, or line from a book or song that has stuck with you? “You better work bitch” Britney Spears. What is something that you feel is Underrated? Swearing. What artist, project, or book would you recommend we see/follow? Listen to the Telepathy Tapes podcast! And subscribe to The Marginalian. What are you terrible at but love to do anyway? Playing the guitar. Hidden talent? Gardening. Can you fill in the blank? Beauty is...Nothing if you’re an asshole. Okay but an AyaLumi royal au where princess Ayaka is betrothed to Prince Kazuha of the neighbouring nation for political reasons despite the protests of her brother the king cause she knows what a dangerous position her brother is in so he will need all the help he can get. But plot twist she ends up meeting Travelling outlander Lumine while disguised as a commoner for a walk out of the Palace. Stuff happen, they fall in love but Ayaka has a duty to her kingdom so she keeps her feelings to herself and doesn't reveal her identity to Lumine even on the last day of Lumine's stay in the city but later Lumine figures it out anyway and decides that if she has to interrupt a riyal wedding to confess her feelings then so be it. And so with the help of her traveling outlander twin brother she does exactly that and challenges Kazuha for a duel for Ayaka's hand in marriage and Kazuha is actually not interested in marrying Ayaka at all( he has his heart set on someone else) but as it is custom he agrees and is rightfully beaten (he didn't lose intentionally, he's a warrior and warriors don't do that ) and Lumine earns his respect. But the courtiers being the Bitches they are still don't approve cause Lumind is an outlander and shit but Ayato silences them all because his sister's happiness matters more than anything else.
But plot twist Lumine is actually the princess of a far away kingdom known for being more powerful than any of the seven nations and she and Aether were only travelling the world because they were bored so even if they had refused Lumine would have come back and claimed her bride anyways.
Anyway AyaLumi get married in a Royal wedding and live happily ever after bye.

Discovering Boston’s Innovation + Entrepreneurship Ecosystem with MBA students from Fribourg
By Gilles Suard, Junior Project Manager
In October 2017, swissnex Boston welcomed 13 students from the School of Management Fribourg, accompanied by the School’s Director, Professor Rico Baldegger. The HEG Fribourg (HES-SO) offers a Master of Science in Business Administration with a major in Entrepreneurship, Innovation and Growth Management.
Every year, as part of this program, the scholars have the chance to fly over the Atlantic to discover new markets and explore the Entrepreneurship ecosystem of Boston. This year, the students are working closely with Swiss companies to tackle the challenges that arise when entering new markets -- and adjusting their innovation strategies accordingly. swissnex custom-built this 5-day program to complement the students’ needs and interests.
DAY 1
The intense discovery started with a presentation from McDermott Will & Emery on the legal aspects of doing business in the US. Following visits to Autodesk and NVBOTS, the students had the chance to learn more about 3D printing in startup incubators and co-working spaces and from a fast-growing startup. A great lunch was offered by Legal Sea Foods with a presentation of their entrepreneurial journey. The afternoon started with a presentation of swissnex by Jonas Brunschwig and Gilles Suard. Then, Hampus Hillerstrom presented his life science company, Proclara Biosciences, and his current organization LuMind, a Down Syndrome research foundation. The day ended with an energetic presentation from Maram Al, founder of Viemate, a real estate startup.
DAY 2
It began with an interesting lecture from Jos Scheffelaar, the founder of “Launch In US” Alliance, a consulting company helping European companies entering the US market. Afterward, the renowned Bill Aulet introduced the Center for MIT Entrepreneurship and talked about his book, 24 Steps of Disciplined Entrepreneurship. In the afternoon was an exclusive visit of Draper Lab at its brand new Kendall Square location. Students learned more about the high-level engineering company and its Sembler program, which empowers startups through engineering. To end the day, the group traveled across the city to participate in a startup showcase, including a talk on the future of Digital Health, hosted by Boston Children’s Hospital Digital Health Accelerator and Pulse@MassChallenge.
DAY 3
The MBA students attended an event at Harvard Business School on Engineering + Entrepreneurship innovation in Healthcare. The highlight was a real HBS case study, presented by an expert from HBS. It was followed by a startup showcase, along with an inspiring discussion on the power of ‘storytelling in entrepreneurship’ at Harvard i-lab, which incubates and accelerates entrepreneurial projects from Harvard students.
DAY 4
This day was focused on corporate innovation, with a visit to Johnson & Johnson Innovation Center, hosted by Anders Linden. The students learned about the involvement of J&J within the Boston ecosystem, with a focus on creating strong networks and collaborations with external parties as part of their Open Innovation strategy. In addition, J&J organized a workshop on venture financing for entrepreneurs, academics and industry experts in their JLABS facilities, which welcome startups and provide valuable mentorship with a ‘no strings attached’ approach. Just across the street from JLABS, the students enjoyed a campus tour of Massachusetts Institute of Technology, given by Jonas Brunschwig, Project Leader in Academic Relations at swissnex Boston, who is also currently a student at MIT. In the afternoon, a presentation of the Cambridge Innovation Center provided an overview of co-working spaces and their role in this ecosystem. Then, Professor Lou Shipley from MIT Sloan kindly invited the group for a lecture in Entrepreneurial Sales. At the end this intense day, the students were still motivated to attend an event focused on the Clinton Global Initiative organized by swissnex Boston.
DAY 5
The MBA students spent their last day at Northeastern University where Gregory Collier gave an interesting lecture on Business and Revenue Model Innovation as well as a presentation on the efficient ventures accelerator, IDEA. After lunch on campus, Bill Hartman from Essential Design led the group in a Design Thinking workshop, challenging them to tackle the challenges they face in new ways. Startup accelerator MassChallenge was the finale of the study tour. Roman Kern, Senior Director of Global Operations and Technology took the group for an inspirational journey around the wide-ranging facilities, which are designed to help high-impact startups succeed.
The students were positively overwhelmed by the impressive Innovation and Entrepreneurship dynamics in Boston. The knowledge acquired throughout this week of visits, presentations, discussions, and learning will help them as they embark on their second year of their MBA.
