helloo, i need opinions on a din djarin hurt/comfort fic i’m working on! i’m not sure the subject matter would be appealing, so pls lmk your thoughts!
it’s a din djarin/reader fic. reader has to overcome intense anxiety surrounding her discomfort with a health issue in order to communicate said issue w mando. reader has a lump in her breast. this brings a lot of shame and discomfort for various reasons. mando has to know about it, because he will have to help reader when time comes for surgery (post anesthesia things).
more details if you cared: reader is staying with mando for reasons i’m still working out, but they are not close. there is sexual tension, but nothing has occurred. the bulk of what i’m working through now, is the moment reader sits mando down to tell him what’s going on, and his reaction is a shock to reader. but that moment feels awkward, tense, and anxiety producing for reader because of the embarrassment she feels surrounding her breasts.
soooo what do people think?! would you want to read this?? (this is my first tumblr post so who knows if anyone will see this lol)

Decisions
How is a person who isn’t a doctor supposed to make medical decisions? That has been a common theme for the past few months. Bergie was faced with the first choice, which was whether to have a full mastectomy or a lumpectomy. For years she knew the risk of getting breast cancer was high, so she said if she ever got cancer, she would just have both her breasts removed and just remove the risk of getting it again. But now, she was not sure because the surgeon said that a full mastectomy only reduces your chance of recurrence by a few percentage points. So, a lumpectomy is a perfectly fine choice to make in this situation if keeping your breast is important to you.
It was a tough decision. Thinking through the options and going back and forth on the pros and cons was almost maddening. In the end, she decided to have a lumpectomy (remove only the tumor and the tissue surrounding it).

12 years later
Wow this is now 12 years later. I went to do a breast exam and ultrasound. I am now 49. Yes they found cancer in the left breast, 1 cm. I am to have a lumpectomy and radiation. They have not decided what else. I am a lot calmer than the first time. Why? This is now my second bout of cancer. The first with neuroendocrine and they removed a foot of my small intestine and a tumor. Interesting neuroendocrine cancer has no suggested hashtag on tumblr but of course breast cancer does.
I have lost two brothers to cancer so you understand my mental state and my families' mental state over cancer.

A true case study of the American Healthcare System:
I had an appointment with my OBGYN for my yearly well women's exam last week. Which includes a pap smear and a breast exam. During the breast exam, my doc found a lump. She gave me a number to call and ordered up an ultrasound.
I call the number and this happens:
"hi yes I would like to schedule an ultrasound for a lump found in my breast."
"Have you had a mammogram before?"
"No, I'm only 29, but my doctor said I would just need the ultrasound."
"well you can't get an ultrasound without a diagnostic mammogram first."
And she was kind of mean about it. Like girl I just found out I have a lump in my breast and there's a history of breast cancer in my family (my mom literally just had it and her mom had years ago)! Why you gotta be so mean?
I call back my doctor's office and explain that this receptionist told me I need a mammogram first. And the nurse takes ten minutes to go ask and make sure she's ordering the right thing for me before agreeing that I need the mammogram first. She orders it.
I call back the ultrasound/mammogram place. I tell the (thankfully different) receptionist that I need to schedule a diagnostic mammogram and then an ultrasound. She takes my details down.
"Wait. You're only 29?"
"Yes."
"You're too young for a mammogram!"
"That's what I thought but I was told to get one."
"Hang on let me put you on hold."
Thus goes the next 20 minutes of this receptionist trying to make sure I get the right scan. Finally, she comes back.
"Okay, so you do need a mammogram."
"Great, can I schedule one?"
"So because you're not 30 yet and this is a first time for you, you're going to get the ultrasound first and THEN the mammogram."
"Wait but I thought the mammogram, being diagnostic, had to be first."
"Normally yes, but you're not 30 yet and this is your first time, so the ultrasound will be first."
"... okay... can I schedule that, then?"
"Yes, and they can be the same day! You'll have the ultrasound and then the mammogram about 30 minutes later!"
"Cool, when can this be?"
"Our next available appointment isn't until June!"
It is currently April. My doctor is pretty sure it's a cyst that comes and goes with hormones, so it very well might be gone by then! Which is what I'm hoping for, but you'd think finding a lump in someone's breast, especially someone who has a history of breast cancer from her mom and grandma, would get quicker appointments. I also dont understand the whole ultrasound before a mammogram thing when the mammogram was to be used to make sure something was even there before using the ultrasound??? Also that first receptionist was mean and I really hope she isn't like that with patients who have diagnosed cancer and are just trying to get treatment. This entire experience so far has just been weird.

Well, I've spent the last 3 days sick as a dog, toting Guinan back and forth to the vet because she hadn't eaten since Christmas.
$1300+ later all we really know is her entire digestive system was bloated with trapped gas. She basically sat at the vet's for two days while they did everything to get her to fart.
It might've been the kitten food we got for Tom and Harry that she was snarfing down with more gusto than they were. So we've thrown that out and everyone is eating what Guinan's eaten for years.
I'm just happy she's home and mad at me because I've only let her eat a little bit so far. Easy does it, kitty.

As someone who has had breast cancer, the recovery from surgery for a lumpectomy (just the removal of the tumor, not a mastectomy) is 1 - 2 weeks.
Mine was 2 weeks because the sentinal node biopsy was very deep and required more muscle to cut through. I had initially told it would be 1 week recovery before I was back at work.
I didn't have chemo, so I cannot comment on that, but I also worked through all but the last week of radiotherapy.
If Kate has cancer and is also undergoing chemo, then that's a very rough ride and I'm incredibly sorry that she (and any other person who has to have chemo to survive cancer) is going through that.
is tumblr aware that half the uk is suddenly Very Invested in the royal family because we think kate middleton is dead
