Why write in a character ((Ma Eun-Young) and have her say she doesn't want to get married, break up with the guy, and have her radically change her mind? I get that she could have feelings for the man, but what if they got to live together like she was okay with (even though this was Mr. Gong's pushy idea) and let it be like that? Like why create so much opposition from her and then make her so passive to give in to what he wanted? Hello?

Beep. Beep. Beep.
That sound drilled through Soo Ho’s head as he sat next to Si Eun’s hospital bed. His eyes repeatedly scanned the oxygen mask, the IV, the heart monitors, all of it. Over and over and over his eyes wandered. It was mindless yet intentional.
It had been a week since Si Eun was finally allowed to move from the ICU to a specialist floor. His heart had been having issues but thankfully not bad enough to keep him in intensive care. Everyone was grateful that he was extubated and now only using an oxygen mask. The doctors said he may soon be able to switch to a cannula, but they weren’t comfortable with it yet given how much he was still relying on the mask. It was frustrating to see him like that. He hadn’t moved on his own since before the incident.
Every day, they were routinely moving his limbs and massaging his muscles to keep things from getting worse than they already were. Nurses kept coming in and doing their routine checks and exams and writing whatever they did down on the computers. It was getting annoying. All this checking and they still didn’t know when he would wake up? Why is his heart still having problems? Why did nobody have answers for him?!
A voice broke him out of his spiraling thoughts.
“Soo Ho. You’ve been here for too long. You need to shower and sleep. Have you eaten at all?” Young Yi was back with an americano in hand. She had only stepped out for a moment to go to the coffee shop. When she was met with silence, she set her coffee down on the table next to Si Eun’s bed and moved closer to Soo Ho. “You need rest.”
“I don’t go home anyway. I sleep at school. How is this different? I’m sitting in a cushioned chair. Isn’t that better than a bed made of desks?” His tone was... not desirable to say the least. She stood back up and grabbed her coffee before heading back out of the room. There was nothing she was going to say or do to get him to leave that room so she might as well go see what Seok Dae had come up with regarding finding Gil Soo.
O|||||||O
A couple days later, a nurse entered the room. Soo Ho assumed she was only doing a routine check. However, this time she seemed more cheerful. “It looks like we can upgrade him to a cannula, now.” The nurse looked to Soo Ho. “How does that sound?”
His face lit up. This was the news he needed. “Great!” He jumped up and watched as she switched out the devices. “Do you know if he’ll wake up soon?”
“I’m sorry but no. This is an improvement, though. I can’t make any promises because it’s ultimately up to him, but it looks good. He is no longer on sedatives, and we have been slowly moving him to lower doses of painkillers for the past few days, so he has a better chance of doing it on his own.” The nurse finished changing everything out before putting things away and giving Soo Ho a pat on the shoulder. “I know it doesn’t feel like it but you’re helping him a lot right now.” After she left, some weight came off his shoulders.
“Come on, Si Eun. You’ve gotta wake up.”
O|||||||O
“My job forced me to take time off to be with Si Eun so why would I not be here?” Si Eun’s dad snarked.
He and Si Eun’s mom had been arguing quite frequently for the past couple of weeks. Soo Ho ignored it for the most part but that sentence wasn’t sitting right with him. Was his dad only at the hospital because he was forced to take time off or was he genuinely concerned about his son? It didn’t sound like there was any concern there.
Soo Ho hadn’t really met Si Eun’s parents many times. Maybe a bow or a quick greeting here or there when he went over to their apartment before Si Eun moved but other than that, nothing much. This new prolonged exposure to the two was driving him insane. He was already stressed while watching his friend suffer, he was already exhausted and hungry. The constant arguing wasn’t helping. He stood and quickly stepped out of the door into the empty hallway where the two were going at it.
“Fuck, can you shut up? Seriously!” He didn’t realize those words would come out so loud but maybe it was what the two needed to hear so he continued. “Your son is in the fucking hospital because he was beat nearly to death. Do you understand?! He was beaten within an inch of his fucking life and you two are arguing about how this is frustrating for you?! Grow up!” Hoping to have the last word, he stepped back into Si Eun’s room to get back to his chair next to his friend.
“That little-” Si Eun’s dad went to grab the door handle but before he could, he felt an intense pressure in his wrist.
“I wouldn’t do that,” Si Eun’s dad looked up to see the source of the pain. A very large... student? “He’s tired, stressed, probably hungry and he hates you right now. You see how big I am? He beat my ass once. Do with that what you will.” Seok Dae released his grip and allowed Si Eun’s dad to make the choice on his own.
“You think I’m not- you think we are both not concerned about our son? This has been-”
“Don’t,” Seok Dae motioned for Young Yi to step from behind him to go inside. “I don’t care.”
O|||||||O
A couple more days passed and still, Soo Ho had never left Si Eun’s side. If anything, he would repay Si Eun’s persistence in staying next to him after his fight with Woo Young went south a few months ago. It felt like they were a Newton’s Cradle. One would get hurt and once it got to the other, they did something stupid and got hurt. Then it would get back to the one and they would do something stupid and get hurt. Back and forth and back and forth they went, hospital visit after hospital visit, both trying to avenge each other like some sort of drama.
Once again, Soo Ho spiraled into his thoughts, going deeper and deeper until someone ultimately spoke to him, snapping him out of it.
“How long?”
He lifted his head to see Si Eun staring dead into his soul. He really does love making direct eye contact.
“I said how long?”
He snapped out of his dazed confusion, “W-what? How long what?”
“Here.” Si Eun’s eyes were heavily lidded. He was most likely barely awake. Wait... he’s awake!
Soo Ho shot out of his chair, launching himself towards a very drowsy Si Eun. “You’re awake! Dude it’s been almost two weeks!”
“Hmm.” He slowly put his hand on the bed behind his back and pushed. His arm shook as he struggled to lift himself up. He fell back down onto the bed and groaned. Soo Ho quickly went to help him sit up a little bit, pushing the button to get the bed to lift.
“Don’t try and sit up on your own. Just lay back and I’ll tilt the bed up,” Soo Ho quietly pushed the button to call the nurse and continued helping his friend. “Hold on.” He continued helping Si Eun, trying his best to tune out his pained groans.
Once the two were able to make him comfortable, the nurse opened the door to the room. “How do you feel?” She quickly and efficiently started her exam, asking tons of questions, running lots of quick little tests and checking all the machines over.
“Tired.”
“Understood,” the nurse laughed. “I’m nurse Choi Ha Neul. I have been and will be overseeing your care during the day and at night you will have my little sister, nurse Choi San Yi. It looks like all your vitals are as stable as we can ask for now. We still have some concerns but you’re healing well. We are going to keep the cannula for the next day or two and see if we can get you breathing on your own. We would, however, like to take it out within the next couple days.” She continued her exams, allowing the two to talk.
Si Eun silently nodded before looking to Soo Ho.
“No, I didn’t bring any schoolwork. You’re in the hospital. Rest.”
Si Eun groaned but complied, slowly laying further into the bed, allowing the tension to release from his body. With all the school he had been missing, he was upset about missing more work but maybe he did need to rest.
Right as the tension was fully leaving his body, a sound he didn’t want to hear hit his ears, giving him a migraine.
“Si Eun-a!” His dad had entered the room, seemingly teleporting to his bedside, nearly pushing Soo Ho back. “How are you feeling?” Asshole always had to act like he cared.
The room was silent. Soo Ho kept his eyes on Si Eun and he was not happy about what he saw.
The shrill of the EKG filled the room. In a matter of seconds, Soo Ho was next to the bed, panicked. “Nurse, why is it making that sound?” He quickly looked back to Si Eun who was wincing, grabbing his chest, struggling to breathe. The nurse swiftly got everyone out of the room and got to work after calling for help. It felt like everyone working in the hospital that night was in his room, now.
“Grab that!” Soo Ho overheard nurse Ha Neul yell to another nurse. The screaming machines were really starting to get to him. What was going on? Why was he getting better and suddenly, he was getting worse?
“Fuck!” Soo Ho banged his fist against the wall. It was too much. Watching his friend suffer repeatedly was getting frustrating and he was sick of it.
O|||||||O
The next few days after that were painful for everyone, even Si Eun’s parents. Constantly waking up, feeling fine, then soon after, having intense chest pain, everyone leaves the room and next thing they know he’s sedated. Over and over again they do this dance with Si Eun’s health.
After a few days of this, the doctors decided to limit visitation. Given how busy Si Eun’s parents were, it got to the point where they were not able to attend so it was only Soo Ho, Seok Dae and Young Yi who visited for the week.
A few days later, on a bright morning, the sun shined beautifully through Si Eun’s window, bringing a slight warmth to his face, waking him up. He slowly and quietly turned to see Soo Ho in his usual spot on the chair next to his bed.
“Hyung.”
Soo Ho barely opened his eyes, “Is it lunch time yet?”
“It’s morning.”
“So, breakfast.” He stood, instinctively helping Si Eun sit up in the bed.
Today felt better. Si Eun woke up first for once. For a little bit, they had him using the oxygen mask again, then back to the cannula, then nothing at all. The past couple of days had been smoother. He was walking up and down the halls and he was able to eat enough food to satisfy the nurses. He was getting better.
After the two had their breakfast, the nurse came in and did her routine exams. This time, she asked Soo Ho to step out with her. He happily complied, hoping this was her telling him Si Eun could be discharged soon and they could continue his care at home.
“I have to ask this based on his recent progress: Does Si Eun have a negative relationship with his parents?”
“Sorry, what does that have to do with his condition?” Soo Ho hadn’t meant to be rude but why pry when the priority was getting him discharged?
“It seems a consistent trigger for his heart problems was the stress of his parents being around him. In the week his parents have been away, his condition has improved exponentially so it’s something we must consider. In his form, he says he has no concerns about abuse at home, but we wanted to ask if you had any concerns about it, yourself. At this point, we must ask.”
“He doesn’t have a very good relationship with his parents, but I can promise you there’s no abuse. They just... aren’t good people. Not to him at least.”
“Okay. Well, if you have any concerns, please let us know. We need to make sure we’re doing the best thing we can for his condition.”
Soo Ho nodded and bowed before heading back into the room. He barely stepped in before seeing Si Eun asleep while sitting up. “I wasn’t gone that long, though.” He laughed. He quietly went to the bed and slowly lowered it, allowing Si Eun to lay down to rest.
O|||||||O
Not too long after, Si Eun was being rolled out of the hospital in a wheelchair with his papers in hand and his friends at his side. Nurse Ha Neul brought him to the front while Seok Dae pulled the car around.
She locked the wheelchair and walked around to stand in front of him. “Remember: keep your stress levels at a minimum and limit strenuous physical activity. Your heart can’t take it like it used to. Got it?”
Si Eun bowed slightly before standing up out of the wheelchair and getting into the car.
Soo Ho quickly turned to her with an apology on Si Eun’s behalf. “A man of few words. Sorry. At this point all he says is ‘No. Please. Stop.’ Just those three and mostly to me.” He followed Si Eun and Young Yi into the car and waved goodbye to Si Eun’s lovely nurse. He really should’ve gotten her number.
“You hear what she said? No stress and no physical activity. Stop stressing about school and stop fighting. Got it?” Young Yi pointed her finger near his face before he slowly pushed it away.
“I know.” He slowly reclined into his seat, closing his eyes as he took in the air from outside of the hospital. He had been there for nearly a month, and it took its toll. While he was walking away with a weaker heart than before, he was finally out of the hospital and living with his friends in peace. School was almost over, and he could finally move on with his life. Hopefully things will be better now, and he can escape the same old problems he’d been having for years.

“c’mon, everyone gather to eat dinner” you tell your children who all take a seat at the dinner table. everyone except for jungkook and jinseoul. “areum, please tell your brother to come and eat with us. ae-cha, inform your father” areum nods her head and in a panic, ae-cha offers to tell jinseoul about coming to eat since she’s aware of nami’s presence.
“no, i specifically told areum to go. you can get your—“
“your highness” interrupts jisung “the king wants to inform you that he will be in his private chambers for the remainder of the night”
‘great. leave me with the mess’ you say in your head and in response, you nod your head and thank jisung for passing on his message. “i’ll go get jinseoul, you all stay here” you tell your children. “ae-cha, you’re in charge” you say before heading in the direction of your son’s room and after knocking twice and waiting for your son to open the door, you decide to open it yourself.
empty.
“stay quiet, okay?” jinseoul whispers to nami as he pulls her through the long halls of the dungeon until they reach the small pocket area where he managed to sneak an imperial horse for her to ride safely back home with.
“here’s some food i took from the kitchen in case you get hungry” jinseoul says as he hands nami a small bag with food, fruit, and water.
“thank you, jinseoul”
“i probably won’t see you for a while, so this is goodbye for now”
“it’s okay. we’ll figure something out. promise you’ll keep writing me?”
“promise”
before nami mounts the horse, she pulls jinseoul in for a kiss.
“i love you” she whispers
“i love you too”
and jisung watches it all.
once she’s out of jinseoul’s sight, the young man rushes back to the golden wing appearing ‘normal’ despite maids and the servants strangely wondering why the prince has decided to be on this side of the palace.
eventually, jinseoul makes it back to the golden wing and sitting in his room is his mother who doesn’t appear happy.
“what are you doing in here, mom?”
“no, the real question is where were you jinseoul?”
“i went to the bathroom”
“you went to the bathroom when you have a bathroom in your room? do you think i’m an idiot, jinseoul?”
“okay! i went out”
“went out where, jinseoul?”
“horseback riding, mom. i swear that’s all i was doing”
“i told you to stay in your room”
“so? you didn’t say i couldn’t go horseback riding”
why is he being so mean to his mother? this isn’t right and jinseoul knows it. he loves his mother a lot and all he’s doing is just exhausting you with his disobedience.
“i’m sorry, mom. i didn’t mean to say that”
“yes you did” you throw back.
“i didn’t. i-i swear. it just came out”
“come join us for dinner, jinseoul”
is the last thing you say before turning your back to your son and maybe it’s better if you do because you can feel the itch in your hand to slap some sense into your son. you leave his bedroom and join your waiting children who are excited to see your face, especially your youngest three. soon jinseoul joins the table with a sad look on his face which concerns his younger sister ayra.
“what’s wrong seoul??” she innocently asks.
“nothing ayra” he smiles but it doesn’t reach his eyes. all he does is look at you with sad eyes because he feels awful and embarrassed by his actions today.
“guess what, seoul? i sang without being nervous today!” ji-eun excitedly says.
“oh yes! ji-eun did really well at her recital today” you chime in.
“good job, ji-eun. hopefully i can come to your recital next time” ae-cha says and for a moment, things feel normal.
it takes a while for jinseoul to warm up, but whatever he did today still matters to you and you allow him to have the floor to tell his siblings about what he did today. before the catastrophe that happened, your son has been practicing swordsmanship and studying more about leadership.
“uh, practice was okay. it’s not easy but i’ll get better” jinseoul shrugs as he waits for the servants to try the food before they eat the freshly made dinner.
“I MADE THE DESSERT!!” areum excitedly shares.
“ouu, are we having tarts today?” says jawon as you make a plate for jungkook.
“i made yaksik this time. you guys are going to love it!”
“areum dear, take this plate to your father”
“no no no! i wanna take it!” fusses ji-eun “can i got too mommy?”
“fine fine. ji-eun and areum”
“yaaaaay” cheers the excited five year old who happily holds the plate of food while areum holds the drink.
*KNOCK* *KNOCK*
“papa! papa! we have foooood for youuuuu” ji-eun sings.
“dad, are you in there?” asks areum. “he’s probably in his office. let’s go check there”
“okeey”
*KNOCK* *KNOCK*
“papaaaaa!!! we have food for you! it’s yummy and healthy and areum made treats too!!”
~🫧
Aw, his beloved girls are here.
Jungkooks mood instantly lights up as he sees areum and ji-eun enter, and he immediately commands for jisung to leave before he could tell him what he saw in the secret passage today, but he decides to let it go and leaves the king alone with his daughters.
“My babies!!!!” Jungkook coos as ji-eun immediately jumps into her father’s lap, and areum quietly sets the food on her fathers now empty table. “Aww my sweet girl…” he watches as his little girl does her work with full concentration.
Her little hands- that makes him emotional. “ I missed you so much!” He pouts as he kisses ji-eun and areum on their cheeks, “aw look at what you guys brought for daddy to eat?”
And then areum proceeds to tell her dad that she actually made the sweets. And he’s awestruck because she’s got some serious good skills, just like you. “Oh wow.. oh my goodness this tastes so delicious!” He says with a mouthful of food, you would scold him for talking with food and his mouth, but you are not here right now.
“My areum… you did so good I think you deserve a reward!” Jungkook smiles, before taking out an ebony colored pouch from his table drawer. Whenever he spends time with his younger children, he gets in the best mood.
And for a moment he’s forgotten about jinseoul. So just like that, the three begin eating together and soon he is feeling full, and his mood is a lot better right now.
“Thank you my beloved princesses. Come on let’s get to your mother…. She must be missing daady?” He asks areum about you.
And before he leaves his office, he appoints his trusted servant to clean up the mess and with jieun and areum in his arms, he’s out to see you.

[✎ ITA] GQ Korea : Speciale Novembre 2023, Intervista - JIMIN, Una Forma di Linguaggio Di Per Sé | 18.10.2023
Tumblr media
🗞 GQ Korea Novembre 2023 | THIS IS YOUR SONG
Twitter | Orig. KOR | Trad ENG
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
(Estratto da “Even with a Very Faint Light” di Choi Eun-young)
JIMIN: Wow, grazie per queste bellissime parole.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Tumblr media Tumblr media

welcome to marina, nam dae-eun ( cis man, he/him ) ! he is a thirty-two year old who has lived over on locke row for two months and works as an investigative journalist. everyone says he looks a lot like park hyungsik. what do you think? [ penned by sen – they/them, cst / gmt+6 ]
Tumblr media
BASICS: FULL NAME: Nam Dae-eun NICKNAMES: Dae DATE OF BIRTH: 1992.05.12 AGE: 32 HOMETOWN: Boston, MA ORIENTATION: Straight GENDER: Cis man, he/him ETHNICITY: Korean OCCUPATION: Journalist
PHYSICAL: FACECLAIM: Park Hyungsik HEIGHT: 6'1" / 185cm BUILD: Tall, broad SKIN: Pale HAIR: Dark brown EYES: Dark brown
PERSONALITY: + traits: Kind, polite, charismatic, an open book, responsible, modest - traits: Nosy, pushy, stubborn, tenacious, oblivious, hyper-focused
BACKGROUND:
Nam Dae-eun grew up in Marina and Boston with his [younger/older] sister, [open connection!], and their two parents. When their mother left, the family moved to Marina. Dae didn't really care for it there, but stayed until he was done with school and could move back up to Boston.
He was always a very curious kid. Most of the children his age at school didn’t care for him all that much—they found him annoying, but Dae-eun didn’t understand why. He spent a lot of time hanging out with his sister; otherwise, he hid his nose in books.
Their father was a very successful lawyer, and generally very caught up with work. Their mother left when they were young, so the two were primarily raised by nannies and each other. Because of this, Dae tends to be a bit of a worrywart when it comes to his sister.
His writing excelled from early on, even his earliest essays receiving top marks. He knew from a young age that he wanted to be a journalist and never wavered, ending up going to Emerson on a full-ride scholarship.
He finally achieved his dream career at 23, at a popular newspaper in his city.
After a couple of years, he became the chief journalist at his station, the youngest to receive the title in years.
He decided to move back to Marina to try and reconnect with his sister. Ever since he moved back, he’s been renting a tiny house in Locke Row. (He'll get something better eventually.)
OTHER (didn’t fit anywhere else):

One of the most original time-travel thrillers since 12 Monkeys. A brilliant subversion of the Time Paradox trope, with enough plot twists to keep you entertained until well after the movie is finished. Predestination is an amazing movie with great performances from Ethan Hawke and Sarah Snook. It’s a movie that will feel like Inception, when it comes to messing with your mind and barely anyone has heard of it. It is highly underrated and unknown, sadly.
4. Train to Busan (2016)
Genre: Action, Adventure, Drama, Horror, Science Fiction, Thriller
Actor: Ahn So-hee, An So-hee, Baek Seung-hwan, Cha Chung-hwa, Chang-hwan Kim, Choi Gwi-hwa, Choi Woo-shik, Choi Woo-sung, Dong-seok Ma, Eui-sung Kim, Gong Yoo, Han Ji-eun, Han Sung-soo, Jang Hyuk-jin, Jeong Seok-yong, Jung Seok-yong, Jung Young-ki, Jung Yu-mi, Kim Chang-hwan, Kim Eui-sung, Kim Jae-rok, Kim Joo-heon, Kim Ju-hun, Kim Keum-soon, Kim Soo-ahn, Kim Soo-an, Kim Su-an, Kim Won-Jin, Lee Joo-sil, Lee Joong-ok, Ma Dong-seok, Park Myung-shin, Sang-ho Yeon, Seok-yong Jeong, Shim Eun-kyung, Sohee, Soo-an Kim, Soo-jung Ye, Terri Doty, Woo Do-im, Woo-sik Choi, Ye Soo-jung, Yeon Sang-ho, Yoo Gong, Yu-mi Jeong, Yu-mi Jung

A zombie virus breaks out and catches up with a father as he is taking his daughter from Seoul to Busan, South Korea’s second-largest city. Watch them trying to survive to reach their destination, a purported safe zone.
The acting is spot-on; the set pieces are particularly well choreographed. You’ll care about the characters. You’ll feel for the father as he struggles to keep his humanity in the bleakest of scenarios.
It’s a refreshingly thrilling disaster movie, a perfect specimen of the genre.
3. Serenity (2005)
Genre: Action, Adventure, Science Fiction, Thriller
Actor: Adam Baldwin, Alan Tudyk, Carrie ‘CeCe’ Cline, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Colin Patrick Lynch, David Krumholtz, Demetra Raven, Dennis Keiffer, Elaine Mani Lee, Erik Weiner, Gina Torres, Glenn Howerton, Hunter Ansley Wryn, Jessica Huang, Jewel Staite, Linda Wang, Logan O’Brien, Marcus Young, Mark Winn, Marley McClean, Matt McColm, Michael Hitchcock, Morena Baccarin, Nathan Fillion, Nectar Rose, Neil Patrick Harris, Peter James Smith, Rafael Feldman, Rick Williamson, Ron Glass, Ryan Tasz, Sarah Paulson, Sean Maher, Summer Glau, Tamara Taylor, Terrell Tilford, Terrence Hardy Jr., Tristan Jarred, Weston Nathanson, Yan Feldman

Serenity is a futuristic sci-fi film that serves as a feature-length continuation of the story-line from the TV program Firefly (2002–2003). The story revolves around the captain (Nathan Fillion) and crew of the titular space vessel that operate as space outlaws, running cargo and smuggling missions throughout the galaxy. They take on a mysterious young psychic girl and her brother, the girl carrying secrets detrimental to the intergalactic government, and soon find themselves being hunted by a nefarious assassin (Chiwetel Ejiofor). The first feature-length film from Joss Whedon (The Avengers), Serenity is a lively and enjoyable adventure, replete with large-scale action sequences, strong characterizations and just the right touch of wry humor. An enjoyable viewing experience that stands alone without demanding that you have familiarity with the original program beforehand.
2. Sorry to Bother You (2018)
Genre: Comedy, Fantasy, Science Fiction
Actor: Armie Hammer, Danny Glover, David Cross, Ed Moy, Forest Whitaker, James D. Weston II, Jermaine Fowler, John Ozuna, Kate Berlant, Lakeith Stanfield, Lily James, Marcella Bragio, Michael X. Sommers, Molly Brady, Omari Hardwick, Patton Oswalt, Robert Longstreet, Rosario Dawson, Steven Yeun, Teresa Navarro, Terry Crews, Tessa Thompson, Tom Woodruff Jr., Tony Toste, W. Kamau Bell
Director: Boots Riley
Tumblr media
In the year of the Netflix TV Show Maniac, another absurdist title stole critics’ hearts. Sorry to Bother You is a movie set in an alternate reality, where capitalism and greed are accentuated. Lakeith Stanfield (Atlanta) is a guy called Cassius who struggles to pay his bills. However, when at a tele-marketing job an old-timer tells him to use a “white voice”, he starts moving up the ranks of his bizarre society. A really smart movie that will be mostly enjoyed by those who watch it for its entertaining value, and not so much for its commentary. It is like a Black Mirror episode stretched into a movie.
1. Ex Machina (2015)
Genre: Drama, Science Fiction
Actor: Alex Garland, Alicia Vikander, Chelsea Li, Claire Selby, Corey Johnson, Domhnall Gleeson, Elina Alminas, Gana Bayarsaikhan, Oscar Isaac, Sonoya Mizuno, Symara A. Templeman, Symara Templeman, Tiffany Pisani
Director: Alex Garland
Rating: R

Ex Machina is the directorial debut of Alex Garland, the writer of 28 Days Later (and 28 Weeks Later). It tells the story of Caleb (Domhnall Gleeson from About Time), an IT developer who is invited by a billionaire CEO to participate in a groundbreaking experiment — administering a Turing test to a humanoid robot called Ava (Alicia Vikander). Meeting the robot with feelings of superiority at first, questions of trust and ethics soon collide with the protagonist’s personal views. While this dazzling film does not rely on them, the visual effects and the overall look-feel of Ex Machina are absolutely stunning and were rightly picked for an Academy Award. They make Ex Machina feel just as casually futuristic as the equally stylish Her and, like Joaquin Phoenix, Gleeson aka Caleb must confront the feelings he develops towards a machine, despite his full awareness that ‘she’ is just that. This is possibly as close to Kubrick as anyone got in the 21st century. Ex Machina is clever, thrilling, and packed with engaging ideas.

[ park hyungsik, cis male, he/him ]  - was that NAM DAE-EUN i saw by the lighthouse today? i heard that the THIRTY-ONE year old who has been in nightrest for THREE WEEKS and works as a JOURNALIST has a reputation of being KIND, but also NOSY. he resides in LOW POINT & people in town usually associate him with NOTEPADS AND PENCILS WITH LOTS OF SCRIBBLED NOTES, LONG COATS TO COMBAT THE COLD TEMPS, and A CURIOSITY THAT KILLED THE CAT. let’s hope the killer doesn’t go after him next.
[ penned by sen, 18+, they/them, cst / gmt-6 ] [graphics template by eternal summer]
BASICS: FULL NAME: Nam Dae-eun NICKNAMES: Dae DATE OF BIRTH: 1992.05.12 AGE: 31 HOMETOWN: Boston, MA (but he just says he's from "New England.") ORIENTATION: Straight GENDER: Cis male, he/him ETHNICITY: Korean OCCUPATION: Journalist
PHYSICAL: FACECLAIM: Park Hyungsik HEIGHT: 6'1" / 185cm BUILD: Tall, broad SKIN: Pale HAIR: Dark brown EYES: Dark brown EXTRAS: None
PERSONALITY: + traits: Kind, polite, charismatic, an open book, responsible, modest - traits: Nosy, pushy, stubborn, tenacious, oblivious, hyper-focused
BACKGROUND:
Nam Dae-eun grew up in New England with his older sister and two parents.
He was always a very curious kid. Most of the children his age at school didn't care for him all that much—they found him annoying, but Dae-eun didn't understand why. He spent a lot of time hanging out with his older sister.
NIGHTREST:
A few months ago, he began to hear whispers about the little-known town of Nightrest. Intrigued, he asked his boss to let him do a piece on it. The mythology of the locale felt as though it was calling to him, and the more he thought about it, the more excited he got.
After much procrastination, his boss agreed. Dae-eun packed his bags that night, arriving in Nightrest early the next morning.
Ever since then, he’s been renting an apartment in Low Point, walking around the town and listening to conversations (read: bugging people for information) whenever possible. He’s determined to get to the bottom of whatever it is that’s happening here in the town.
And that was all before the murders started.
Now, Dae-eun is disturbed. He only arrived in Nightrest three weeks ago, but his investigative instincts have kicked into overdrive, and he’s getting pushier. Nosier. More eager for information. Before, he was just vaguely bothersome, but now he’s starting to get on people’s nerves.
If he’s not careful, something very bad is going to happen to him very soon.
OTHER (didn't fit anywhere else):
this man. refuses. to use emojis. emoticons all the way.
has a masters in journalism from emerson. he's an overachiever.
he was in the debate club in high school. yeah.
he wants a puppy. this will happen at some point.
generally can be found hanging around the daily dose. my man's loves his coffee. (don't tell anyone but it's also a great source of information—)
WANTED CONNECTIONS:
his older sister. [see the main's wanted connections page]
somebody that doesn't care about his millions of questions, they just like being friends with him anyway. likely one of the first people that greeted him when he moved into town.
he is bound to make a lot of enemies—when i tell you this man is nosy as hell... so yeah enemies/rivals are always appreciated.
perhaps a rival journalist? someone he didn't expect to come down here, and now he feels competitive, like he has to get the scoop first (even if the other journalist doesn't feel that way).
a romantic interest. [please note that i'm not down to rp nsfw content!]
an ex that ended on good terms.
somebody show this man to the speakeasy at queen's. he would lose his mind. think of all the stuff he could hear there.
as of right now, i don't have much off of the top of my head! i know i'd like his older sister at some point, but i need to pin down the details. for now, i'm down for anything! feel free to shoot me all your plotlines—lovey-dovey, angsty, just chat-y, whatever. i'll update this soon! going to do some starters and then head on back. <3
