Book 33 of 2024 (★★★★)
Title: SOG Codename Dynamite: A MACV-SOG 1-0's Personal Journal (Book 2) Authors: Henry L. Thompson Ph.d.
Series: 2 of SOG Codename Dynamite ISBN: 9798399424354 Rating: ★★★★ Subject: Books.Military.20th-21st Century.Asia.Vietnam War.Specops.MACVSOG
Description: From 1964-1972 America engaged in a Top Secret war in Southeast Asia with an elite group of warriors who did not exist. If the enemy caught you, the United States government would deny any involvement with you or what you were doing. You had no protection under the Geneva Convention. You were a spy. You were on your own. This book is a must-read account of a man in extreme combat, who calculates his next missions with a clear and focused mind, and steps off the helicopter skid, aiming to come and kill you. You would not ever wish to be his enemy. The actions described here are about the elite of the elite desperately fighting for their lives and the lives of their teammates as vastly, numerically superior enemy forces closed in on them, and in many cases, killed them and left their mutilated bodies behind for the animals and jungle to consume. This book describes how one of these elite warriors got on the “path” as a child and continued his faithful journey through life until he became a team leader in MACV-SOG leading combat missions deep into Laos, Cambodia, North Vietnam and other countries. His team started all their missions completely surrounded by an overwhelming number of elite North Vietnamese soldiers trained to hunt down and kill SOG teams. LT Dick Thompson, codename Dynamite, describes in heart-stopping detail that takes your breath away, brutal firefights and hand-to-hand combat against overwhelming odds as seen through his eyes. Follow Dynamite as he transitions from a hardcore Airborne Ranger Special Forces warrior into one of the most elite, tier-one special operators on the face of the planet. In the future, scholars will turn first to this book for historic and jarring SOG-related action.

Amazing read if any of you are bored
Also look into Barbara Ann Derry and MACVSOG, which are sort of related to the case?

Mary Peterson's Diary. Part II

June 20, 1968
The army came to the door of the house... I saw Mom break down crying. Daniel was killed and disappeared in Vietnam. They had given the flag to my parents. It was the first time I had seen them in this state... I didn't like to see them like that...
What am I going to do without you Dan...? You were a role model... Like Dad..
June 28, 1968
We had not been able to do a real funeral... It was difficult... Very difficult.. I miss you brother...
Mom and Dad were very busy, they were on a big case with the CIA and MACVSOG regarding Perseus. I saw little of them at the moment. I spent my time listening to music to take my mind off things... I would like to have a family meal like before... But it's impossible, they're too busy and Dan is no longer there. I'm starting to destroy myself and feel lonely even though I'm only 20 years old...
"No my angel, we don't have time to walk around with you", "Tonight we go to the office, we have to keep working. I made you a dish, eat it, okay?"
I don't feel loved anymore... When Dan was there, he would lift me up, support me...ugh..fuck.
September 17, 1968
I was released from the hospital... I can finally write in this journal again... It's been a long time. I was no longer in the mood to express myself. But now it's even worse. I don't have parents anymore... I've seen it all... I have... I tried to resuscitate them... But I failed... Mom.. Dad... I lost everything in a few months... Why..?
Adler came back... And decided to take care of me... Today I have to go with him to discover his house. He told me that I was going to be able to decorate it. He also wanted to tell me that he was going to train me to become an agent like him or like my parents.
I want revenge.

Seafloat was a floating Mobile Advanced Tactical Support Base (MATSB) on the Song Cau Lon in Ca Mau Province at the extreme southern tip of Vietnam. Seafloat is short for Operation Sea Float. The U Minh forest in Cam Mau Province was considered to be a VC stronghold.
Seafloat was a MATSB supporting Water Borne Guard Posts (WPGPs)with swifts and riverene units and various SEAL teams and UDT teams. Hal 3 Det 1 seawolfs provide air cover. At one time about 20 swiftboats, 1 monitor, 1 Zippo, 1 Heavy Seal Support Craft(HSSC), 1 Medium Seal Support Craft(MSSC), 1 Light Seal Support Craft(LSSC), 2-3 junks, 3 SEAL Platoons, and about 40 USN Navy Seafloat Staff called this home. Imagine sleeping there while grenades are detonating day and night and an attack could happen at any moment. Zapper attacks and fire fights were common since the Ca Mau province has historically been a VC stronghold.

Posted @withregram • @bzohistory Before joining in his father's family business, and becoming one of the richest men in the world, John T. Walton served in Vietnam with the elite recon men of SOG. On one patrol, he dropped behind enemy lines with his team shortly before surrounding NVA found them and attacked. The team leader and radio operator were severely wounded. Walton, as the team medic, patched them both up and placed a tourniquet on one of their legs while fighting back the enemy. He took over the radio and called in air strikes on his own position. When a medevac chopper arrived, the team barely made it out, with Walton carrying one man to the bird. His medical treatment, all while under fire so close he could see smoke drifting from the NVA's cigarettes, saved the lives of the wounded. For his heroism, Walton was awarded the Silver Star. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Walton returned to the states and eventually joined his father, Sam, in expanding the new retail giant, Wal-Mart. In 2005, at the age of 58, Walton tragically died in a plane crash, flying a home-built experimental aircraft. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ "...on 3 August 1968 as a member of a Special Forces Reconnaissance Team, 5th Special Forces Group. The patrol was attacked by a numerically superior enemy force. One of the team members was severely wounded in the initial barrage and SPC Walton fought off the enemy while rendering life-saving medical treatment to the casualty. Later, when a grenade exploded inside the team's defensive perimeter and temporarily incapacitated the team leader, SPC Walton assumed the job of directing air strikes on the attackers. Although under constant and ravaging enemy fire, SPC Walton then administered aid to the casualties suffered as the battle continued. When a rescue helicopter arrived to pick up the survivors of the fight, he carried a wounded team member through continuing enemy fire to the waiting ship." ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ #battlesightzero #bzo #history #military #militaryhistory #veteran #veterans #america #army #usarmy #soldier #specialforces #vietnamwar #silverstar #macvsog #sog #recon #famoussoldiers (at Army Recruiting Columbia, TN) https://www.instagram.com/p/CITCQZAhI2i/?igshid=14llna3v513zb
