Can I ask Entrapta and Hordak for the character ask meme?

First impression: with Entrapta, she caught my eye even before the show premiered, when I saw the promo art. I fell in love with her design right away, though i didn't care much for her character at first, just didn't get the hype. It is only after she showed her vulnerable side, when she thought her friends abandoned her (but we knew it was not true!), thats when I got invested. Tuned in for the drama, stayed for the purble mad scientist

Same with Hordak. Didn't care for the character, loved the design. And I loved it specifically because he looked similar to the demon characters from my original story I was working on with a friend at the time. The long pointy ears, the nose, the glowing eyes, the clawed hands and sharp teeth, they also have wings just like Imp!

Oh and I always loved his relationship with Imp, it was so fun to watch these two interact :3

Impression now: to me personally Entrapta and Hordak are the real heart of the show. They are both integral to the story, they're interesting and fun in their own ways and their relationship is simply the best thing the show has to offer. Plus their personal journeys are so exquisitly tragic, love me some good angst

They're both my lil scrunklies, my beloved chew toys, one of my fave evil power couples. Though I gravitate more towards Hordak, he got that melancholic sad doe eyes rizz. And older brother issues (hes just like me fr🤝)

Favorite moment: oof but there are so many. 'Imperfection is beautiful' and 'I am Hordak' are obviously in my top 5, but I also want to mention some other ones

From entrapdak scenes - the one where they chat while sitting on Hordak's throne, the one where Hordak protects Entrapta from the portal explosion and the iconic "What have you done to me?" scene

As for their personal moments, I still giggle at Entrapta's "Do I need to explain math to you?🤨", also I can't get over her soft hum and lil smile when she remembers her lab partner in the portal reality

And with Hordak, again, love all the scenes where he's so casually adorable with Imp, also s4 moments when he's being obsessed with Entrapta (can't deside between the blushing scene and the 'crying over her' scene)

Idea for a story: For Entrapta I've been thinking about an au where she gets consumed by the Island before her friends find her, turning into this scary powerful monster who still has some of her free will. And she either escapes the island herself, becoming a threat to both the Horde and the rebellion (but eventually she and Hordak save each other with the power of love~), or she stays on BI and has this emotional fight with Adora and Bow where she gets to voice all her fears and grievances, but in the end gets defeated and comforted

For Hordak I have this idea about him meeting another clone with the same defect as him. Maybe he was just fresh out of a pod, and his condition only took a toll on him after the fall of Prime. I imagine Hordak being so gentle and protective of him, giving him all the love and understanding + recourses he was deprived of. I also imagine him finally not feeling so alinated when he's around his own kind, like a black sheep among his "perfect" able bodied brothers, because now he knows he's not the only one

Unpopular opinion: Entrapta's trauma should've been treated more seriously and not forgotten right after the Beast Island episode. S5 felt like s4 events were erased from everyone's memory. Also, it should've affected Entrapta more. Again, where are the conflicted feelings towards Hordak? It was never established that she found out the truth about her exile, that Hordak was lied to and had no idea about it. And where are the conflicted feelings towards Catra? The more I think about it, the more I hate that dumb apology and the fact that it was enough for Entrapta to forgive her, after everything Catra did to her and her loved ones

With Hordak... those are not quite common, but it is still tiring to see some fandom opinions where ppl critique this version of Hordak by calling him a loser and a lame villain/character, because he's not "badass" and "threatening" enough and is bad at his job as the leader of the Horde. Cause like... that's the point. Hordak was bad at this because he was not suited for this role, he is not a leader and thats not bad/contradicting writing, thats just his character trait. He was only trying to mimic the only role model he ever had in his life, trying to fit into Prime's shoes and obviously failing at it, because he's not Prime. He was also programmed to be an obedient slave with no wants or ambitions, not a dominant power hungry ruler, and I can only imagine what it took him to become as powerful and threatening as he is in the show. He did not belong on that throne, not because he's incompetent/useless or stupid or a bad warlord, but because choosing to become Lord Hordak, choosing to go all this way to try and prove himself worthy to his uncaring god was,on itself, his biggest mistake, not the right path for him. The Etherian Horde is like that because it's existence was a mistake

Favorite relationship: romantic? with each other. Platonic? Also with each other, but also -

For Entrapta - her friendship with Adora and Wrongie (also Scorpia, but only pre s5 Scorpia, like girl what happened...)

For Hordak - his bond with Imp and his relationship with Horde Prime (i just love how tragic and messed up it is okay?)

Favorite headcanon: idk if a have a favorite, there are all sorts of hcs, so i'll just focus on a random one I like

I do find the idea of Hordak being creeped out and lowkey haunted by Entrapta's cat painting hilarious, but I also like to think that the cat was her real pet, maybe a childhood pet even, and by keeping the painting she honors the memory of her old friend

so maybe donnie propaganda has been emphasizing his war criminal tendencies a little too much in explaining why he fits the mad/evil scientist character. but. my god he loves his family so much it’s so obvious in canon that it’s easy for us to not mention it to others bc it just seems so ‘of course he does’ for us but I get why people who’ve never seen rise would just think ‘bro why’s he trying to kill his family all the time he doesn’t really sound like a good person’ SO:

a large portion of all his inventions are made in an attempt to keep his family safe and/or happy. his bed decked out in guns and lasers was so when any of his family members slept in it, they’d know for certain they’d be safe and nothing could hurt them. He made portable escape pods that could be easily carried around in a collapsed form and deployed to eject anyone from a bad situation easily (this saved Leo’s life). Even the stuff that caused conflict/hurt his family were made with good (if misguided) intentions, like making his bros smarter or the gifts that were made to encourage them to act ‘safer’ in battle (stop Leo from joking around in combat, have Raph plan ahead, don’t let Mikey crash into things)

also if you’ve ever had a sibling you can’t say you also wouldn’t make a death machine after they eat/drink the last of something you wanted. realistic sibling behavior fr fr

Yeah don't worry, I at least fully get that his actions that show him "not caring for his family" are exaggerated for the comedy and not to be taken like, at face value. We see that all the time in fiction, especially cartoons, it sounds really ridiculous to me to actually have a problem with a character because of that, and especially in the mad scientist tournament where we celebrate it anyway.

It's also not great when people confuse low empathy for "not giving a shit" and then villanize it and equate it with "bad person" :/ trust me I am familiar with this. Btw even if he was actually what he is accused of I would still support him, even more <3

Ok ramble time (I cannot shut up about my ocs and hcs for characters even if i tried)(oh and click for better quality)

LOOK 👀👀👀👀👀👁👁👀👁👁 at Conner Flask’s design. Look at them. They are so them. literally the character of all time. They’re just so mad-scientists vibes but like within the capacity of a 12 year old. Melvin Sneedly lookin aaah. Their mom (Mrs. Flask) btw, fully supports their pronouns, hopes and dreams, and overall just kinda chill idk (unlike her child, who really cannot stop being the center of attention lmao). She loves her child just as much as she loves science and inventing things. Mrs. Flask is more like cool teacher that would give you bonus points for just being participative and Conner Flask is a straight up menace just stealing your points for their own academic gain. Conner also used the button machine to make their own enby pins :)

Joe is like ???????????? idk he gives me this very specific vibe of just like being stupid but there’s no endearment to it from other people. They just look down on him for like logical reasons, but Joe is just like “:I man what the heck” the entire time. Idk I just feel like he doesn’t like being treated as stupid or claled stupid just cause he drank lighter fluid that one time and liked it a little

SANGUINE SUNDAE ☀🌻🌤🌞 THE EVERYTHING. THE STARSHINE. THE LIGHT AND JOY OF LIFE. her design is based off of Hatsune Miku’s author notes about how she was designing the characters and was originally gonna make Smiley’s hair yellow but scrapped it. I think it’s still a nice concept cause like idk it looks nice on Sanguine (which btw, look up that word) cause to me, Smiley’s mom IS happiness itself. I had originally thought of making her something like Kooky’s (from KND) mom sort of thing where hse’s all business business but like... man. I feel like she likes stay hippy. she keeps it groovy. shes just :) in its purest form and also loves her daughter very much and supports her transitions trans right firkc you

ok Imma be nice to Frownie and talk about her design. Being Smiley’s self-appointed opposite, Frownie takes all the energy she has throughout the day and puts it all into frowning. She hates learning. She hates school. Why would she? Nobody really like, cares about her and she doesn’t care about anybody. She’s got a unibrow deal with it. Her front buttons are literally :( shaped. And her bright cyan dress contrasts against her baby blue skin, this is basically an inverted shade and pallete of Smiley, who has bright yellow skin and dark orange shirt. She also keeps her hair “neater” and “straighter” and even has the same upside down V line to part her bangs. She made herself Smiley’s opposite because everybody wouldn’t stop saying it otherwise and she grew to resent that. Girlie needs some better friends fr

Who should play Ted Kord in the DCU?

*slight spoilers for Blue Beetle in theaters now!*

I have now seen Blue Beetle twice now, and I absolutely loved it. From the cast, the cinematography, to the action and the drama, it may be my favorite DC movie. If I had one nitpick, I was hoping to see a little more inclusion, at the very least a cameo, of Ted Kord.

Ted Kord in the comics is the second Blue Beetle and the sometimes mentor to Jaime, sometimes deceased hero. In this movie they opted for a middle ground, Ted is missing, and does not appear in the film.

However in our mid credits scene, we find a message from Ted, stating he is alive and needs his daughters help.

While this excites me for future installments of the franchise, it did leave my wheels turning as to who should play Ted in a sequel to Blue Beetle. And I think I have some solid picks. First let's look at what has come before:

Live Action Depictions:

None. Sorta.

While Brandon Routh plays Ray Palmer, the character was set up and meant to be the Blue Beetle. He originally appears in Arrow, described as tech CEO who looks to use technology to become a superhero and challenge the Green Arrow.

However, before this season, Arrow mentioned Ted Kord and Kord Industries so much, one can assume that the character that would become the Atom was originally Ted Kord.

And there are a lot of similarities! Both use technology, both are dorky, corny and well intentioned smart dummies. I think Routh does a great Kord audition here.

We want someone charming, dorky, and even silly. Ted Kord is a silver age hero, and needs to feel like it.

Film Stipulations

For the first time I fancast, we actually have some clues and hurdles for casting.

We learn quite a bit about Ted Kord from the Blue Beetle movie. He is obsessed with the scarab, he fought in and for Palmera City, but wasn't iconic enough to be remembered by many. He was remembered foundly by Rudy though, who is played by George Lopez, who is 62.

Bruna Marquezine plays his daughter, who is 28, and Susan Sarandon plays his older sister at 76. Gaging this range we can assume Ted is somewhere between 55-65, so our actor needs to be in that age range.

We also know Susan Sarandon is very white, and Jenny is mixed, so we're looking for a white actor.

Characteristics

Ted Kord is a classic hero. He is corny, he is fun, and he is weird. We know he is obsessed with the scarab, so someone who can get a little unhinged would be good.

One aspect of Kord I loved from the movie was this inventions didn't always work. He was a genius but a janky one. I like the idea of mad scientist meets heartfelt hero.

We also need someone who feels like they've been a hero for a longtime, and maybe not always the best one.

Honorable Mentions

One interesting aspect of Ted Kord is his history of being adapted through other characters. We brought up Brandon Routh as Ray Palmer playing a version of Blue Beetle, but Patrick Wilson similarly did so.

Alan Moore's Watchmen character Nite Owl II was based off or Ted Kord. You can see it in his suit, gadgets and even ship.

Blue Beetle is often compared to Batman for being so similar. While he just made his reappearance in The Flash, George Clooney is in our age range and kind of fits perfectly.

While I'm usually against actors playing separate superhero roles, I think in this case it can be a fun wink and nod to the viewers, while oddly enough honoring the character.

So if Brandon Routh, George Clooney or Patrick Wilson want the role, I think they should take it.

Finally, a popular fancast and rumor was Jason Sudekais was taking the role.

I absolutely love this casting, and would be happy with it. But I want some originality in my pick, so I have my own as well.

So let's get into my picks:

3. Eric Bana

Starting off strong with an actor who has done superhero media but not in the DC universe.

You may know him from The Other Boleyn Girl, Star Trek or the Time Traveler's Wife, but most would remember him as Bruce Banner from 2003s The Hulk.

While Bana was wrong for Banner, I think he has the making of an excellent Kord. He has those classic hero features, the voice, the look, and I think the range to pull this off. He even had a solid comedic voice performance in Chip n Dale as Monterey Jack.

I do think Bana can play a generic once was hero, but I'd like a little more life in my Blue Beetle. So while I think he is a solid, my top 2 and honestly my honorable mentions would be much better.

2. Patrick Dempsey

Known for roles in Grey's Anatomy and Enchanted, Patrick Dempsey's character work leads me to believe he'd be a good fit here.

Dempsey has a voice that if utilized well, can be very silver age. I think his background in romantic comedies can be utilized with such a funny cast. Dempsey would be the dorkiest to put in the suit, and would pull off that mad genius hero line well.

My main problem with Dempsey is whether he can feel like a mentor. While the others on my list can pull it off, I don't know if I've ever seen Dempsey play the guy who knew what he was doing. I think he's got the chops for it and I'd be happy to see him try.

1. Stanley Tucci

Stanley Tucci is a gem.

I could list off his credentials for days but you probably love him from something. He has charisma, mad scientist energy, and can clearly rock the bald look The Beetle costume gives ya.

Tucci also has charisma with just about anyone. I can't think of an actor more widely loved in pretty much everything he is in. He would bring his A Game with such an incredible cast.

He's also had experience mentoring a young hero. He played Abraham Erskine in Captain America the First Avenger, where he mentored a young Steve Rogers.

At 62, he is right in the age range we want. He's got the build, he's got the charm, and absolutely seems like the type of hero who would make a Beetle Mech with a fart button.

Overall, I can see Tucci returning and playing Kord for several solid movies, even spinning off with my Booster Gold and having adventures, or making the ultimate sacrifice.

Either way, Stanley Tucci is my Ted Kord.

But yes I do have some answers for these!

1. Mikey is feral mostly bc he's very spoiled and he grew up In an environment that encouraged behavior like that! He is the 'Mama's boy' (in the AU, Splinter and Big Mama are canonically married, Splints still lives in the NY sewers, BM still in hidden city and her hotel), and BM definitely encourages his bad behavior. No one really tells him no, and he's an attention hog. He likes getting reactions so doing outlandish stuff and saying cruel things gets him that reaction! He's also an adrenaline junky and a pyromaniac, he'll put himself/others into danger for fun! Plus, BM DOES treat him like a pet, what do you expect. Boy is flea ridden/hj

2. Raph is very quiet and stoic! He still hates being alone, but he also definitely Dislikes being bothered, teased, or pranked. While the most outwardly 'chill', he's very quick to violence. He is the reason Leo has those bite/teeth marks on his shell! Raph bit him <3. His comfort item is Mrs. Cuddles and he always has her with him, which definitely makes it a target for Mikey shenanigans and such! He does still love hugs and snuggles tho, and likes bows, sewing, and cartoons! He doesn't talk much, and he especially won't if his brothers aren't around. He doesn't care much about anything, he's just along for the ride! The brothers often try to, like, 'sic' Raph on eachother by blaming things or just asking REALLLYYYYY nicely (also yes, Don is definitely a mad scientist. Please get him some lab safety etiquette at least some lab goggles)

3. LEOSAGI <3333333 ACTUALLY JUST MY COMFORT CHARACTERS I SWEAR. I have a writer friend who enjoys making small snippets of this AU, and I may ask her if I can post them here or if she would like to post them on A03? So yall can get even more content of the Boyz <3 (NewFallenLeaves on A03! Check out her ROTTMNT stuff, it's wonderful)

4. APRIL AND MAYHEM YES!!!!!! They are both definitely some of my favorite designs of this AU, April is just so beautiful and Mayhem is such a little Creatur. Babey demon demigorgon. Evil beast/pos (fun fact! Mayhems face can split apart in 4 different ways, one way looking like a demigorgon! I'll probably post that sketch sometime soon!)

5. Splinter is great! As Lou Jitsu, he was a film star who behind the scenes was involved in a lot of crime, especially back in Japan with things like the Yakuza. As a rat, he is VERY MUCH based on Gomez Addams. He's fun loving, caring, and loves a good spar session. He may be a bit neglectful of his boys (same as in canon) but he loves and accepts their weird and wacky behavior all the same.

This is his design! Some bits may change but as it stands I am happy w/ it! :D

He owns a decent of pieces of the Shredder Armour as, like, almost trophies? It also helps mean that the Foot will not build the Shredder fully, Aka none of that mess to deal with :]

As for Cassandra, she's not really in the AU at all! I just haven't really been able to think of much for her. As an antagonist, I didn't know whether to lean towards more Addams esque behavior or make her more 'normal' (as normal as she can be JSBSJEB) to have a type of parallel. Idk? Hello this is a random thought but first off. Thank you for headcanoning the moms (like Daniil's or the twins') because God Knows there's enough dead/nonexistent moms in this story. But then I'm always curious (because my own hcs are not firmly settled there) if Daniil's mom is alive during his adulthood (as she appears in some of your art).. what does she think of her son's career choices. Does she complain that he should get a more respectable job than disgraced mad scientist? Is she supportive in principle but upset because he gets into trouble and she's worried? Is she enthusiastically supportive? Did she attend his lectures and embarrass him by loudly being like "that's my son there he's brilliant and you all should fund his research ☺️"? Did she brag about her son reanimating a dead person to her friends at a tea party? What's the vibe there

HIII WELL FORST OF ALL THANK YOU... IT'S NOT MUCH BUT IT'S HONEST WORK... and ok ok so my belief is that she. doesn't know What he does. like the details of his work. i think from university on they don't see each other very much, and dankovsky tries to Not involve her too much, for multiple reasons of 1) she's of fragile health so he doesn't want to scare/disgust her into illness 2) involving her could put the Powers That Be*'s eyes on her, and possibly put her in danger if anyone tries to like. arrest him for medical malpractice or whatnot. he tells her very little but she's very proud of the little he tells her. he tells her he's into longevity research (which, technically... not wrong), which she is very proud of. i think she got a copy of his university thesis, but she didn't read through it, because it was a bit complicated for her: however she's so happy he did it, and holds it dear. she doesn't know about his money problems, his frankensteinesque behaviors... and that's on purpose by him so she cannot be bothered by people who would be after him. there is also the fact that To Me she is a religious woman [i often talk about dankovsky having been raised eastern orthodox In My Mind's Eye and she's part of it], so he doesn't know if she'd like his death-defying stunts too much, as it is... quite heretical honestly. he's not a believer, he's an atheist theomachist, like Doesn't Believe In God, But If There's One, We Got Beef [which informs the Way He Is about death and dying], but he loves and respects his mom, and does not want to like. scare or disgust her. [when she learns, later, it's a whole Ambiguous thing. on one hand, going against god's design is sinful and heretical. on the other, orthodoxy from what i know explores the part of divinity/godliness in man = man should behave like god, because man wears the face of god/was made in god's image (source: greek orthodox friend, which is Diffrent from russian eastern orthodoxy, but like, also i'm making my research lol) so it's like. he's a lil bit like him fr... no i shan't say that it's heretical... well... a lil bit... no... she doesn't know he's bringing the dead back, or trying to. she doesn't know what has gone down in ToG; she just received a letter in which he told her he was traveling to place where he could maybe find a breakthrough in his research, but since they don't see, or send each other letters often nowadays, she didn't think much of it when she had no news for2 weeks. she only realizes 1) something Fucking Scary happened when he comes back after the 12 days looking like hell 2) that this Something scary is within a bigger picture of Scarier. queue:

tldr: she's alive and well; she don't know about the whole resuscitation bits because 1) dankovksy Gets In Trouble and doesn't' want her to get in trouble if he tells her 2) he's preddy distant 3) she's a christian woman so the whole playing god bit would irk her a bit and even if dankovsky is fully confortable being an affront to god and wishes everyone had the rationality of science and humanism he can't deny he loves his momma and doesn't want to hurt her like that even if she's pious. she's Supportive in the way any good mother should be, but she has no idea What she's supporting him in doing, and he prefers it that way.
