I have spent a while trying to work out Mae’s relationship with her archfey patron, and her patron’s personality, and I’ve got that mostly on lock, so now I’m thinking about what her patron thinks of Astarion and that’s just like. really funny to me. I think Astarion is living with the vibe where like, it’s like if you’re dating a woman and she brings you to her family reunion and one of her aunts who she’s kinda close to is perfectly polite to you, but you can tell she’s kinda looking down her nose at you. Like she doesn’t like your vibes. Like she’s gonna pull your girlfriend to the side and ask are you sure? and she’ll respect that the answer is yes but she’s just like. You know you are on your way to becoming the somewhat-questionable in-law in her eyes. You can tell.

Except instead of “weird rich aunt”, it’s “Archfey who gives your girlfriend warlock powers”. So like. There’s that.

*it's been radio silence for months...

so....

it's coming up on two years since this blog was last updated, and i think there should at least be an explanation.

the writing of speak no evil almost completely halted shortly before the new year of 2022 due to turmoil going on in my personal life, which ended a few months later. what came out of it was an important realization.

i have Dissociative Identity Disorder.

for those who are intimately familiar with it, that may not be too surprising given the entire premise of this AU. much of what was planned for and written into speak no evil are directly drawn from personal experiences with severe dissociation.

unfortunately, speak no evil as a story was created by a part that can no longer be reached (those following the story may know him as "mae"). he isn't gone, but it's unlikely that he'll have his hands free for long enough to finish the story in the foreseeable future. this is not to say that the plans for this story have been discarded, but rather that they are unlikely to see the light of day anytime soon.

until then, speak no evil is on indefinite hiatus. i do not know when it is coming back, but just know that it hasn't been forgotten entirely.

i feel like i posted about how mae felt about being referred to as a warrior of light at some point but i cant remember what it was cause most of my ffxiv maeposting was on twitter

i think hed enjoy it for the money he could send back to his family, and for the praise (hes not outwardly arrogant but he does like to subtly dig for compliments. like "oh whatever im not that great" but while getting showered in praise he'll be like quietly smug about it) and also using it to get out of trouble ("excuse me?? stealing?!?! do you -know- who i am???????" meanwhile hes got their family heirloom hidden in his pack)

on the other hand hed hate any kind of negative attention it brings. firstly in terms of public opinion like he would be pissed as hell to hear some rando talk shit about him. secondly for the potential danger. aside from every badguy in the world coming after him all the time, his biggest worry is that his title will end up putting his family in danger. his dads assured him everyone would be fine but still, he'd never forgive himself if they got dragged into something because of a situation he himself ended up in
