one of my customers that has been buying and selling records for over 20 years told my boss that i'm doing a fantastic job at researching and pricing records, and that the store's lucky to have someone this dedicated :') he also said i'm very cool and was impressed with my knowledge of weird, obscure, older stuff (although i'm pretty sure he thinks i'm, like, 21 lmao)

Independent Album Review:
3D Country by Geese
I still have plenty of asks from people about music to review, but I figured there's plenty of room to talk about stuff I've been listening to independently!
So in my exploration into getting back into Apple Music, I decided I would not initially import all my previous music from Spotify, in attempt to get a new swing at the algorithmic content it would send my way, and it's worked certainly! The first song I heard by Geese was actually off their first album Projector, and I ended up trying to listen to that one for a little while. My final thoughts on Projector was that it was entirely interesting, but unfortunately not very memorable at first blush, but it showed a lot of promise. When I had told my girlfriend that I had started listening to them, she had noted that she recognized the 3D Country album art and said she'd heard at least one or two songs and thought that they were pretty good, so I jumped in pretty much immediately. And I'm glad I did!!
3D Country starts off with Cameron Winter's isolated voice, followed up shortly after by the blues rock number "2122". I think Cameron's voice is one of the most interesting things about Geese by far; it's extremely hard to tell what his default range is? He tends to sing in a slightly baritone register for the most part, but he's certainly not afraid to get up into his head voice, and it just works! The difference between where he's singing in the track "3D Country" and then in "Cowboy Nudes" nearly feels like a completely different singer. Honestly he sort of reminds me of Julian Casablancas, whereas Julian usually sings higher and occasionally goes lower.
Geese is one of these really exciting sorts of bands that I would lump in with BCNR, Black Midi, Maruja, and King Krule... I feel that, at least in the genres that I tend to listen to, there's been a lot of stagnation, and these bands feel like they're at the forefront of some well welcomed movement in the scene. And I always feel like you can really tell when this is happening when descriptions of these bands tend to offer like five or six different genres to attempt to give someone an idea what to expect.
To me, this reads as us being on the precipice of a new genre, or at the very least, a new subgenre, which is always very exciting to me. Obviously, genre is most often used descriptively instead of prescriptively (or at least, it is typically sought to be), but even in this, genre labeling, I feel, often allows for more focus into a particular sound, so to say that genres should only ever be descriptive seems a little reductive.
With that being said, while listening to this record, I kept thinking to myself "This is just Funkadelic for white people". Which was completely a joke, in my typical style of saying really broad statements about music that are reductive, but as I went on through it started feeling more real to me. "I See Myself" could honestly just be a track on Maggot Brain.
Anyway, I highly recommend giving this album a shot, and to keep an eye on Geese throughout the future, this is definitely a top 2024 album for me (even though it is a 2023 album..).
A VERY solid 8/10 for me, I think the album is pretty front loaded, but all of the tracks on it are all well enough and fitting for the album in their own right, and if Geese keeps moving like this, their next album might be an all timer for me..
Fave tracks: 2122, 3D Country, Cowboy Nudes, Undoer, Mysterious Love, Tomorrows Crusades, St Elmo

200 of my favorite albums that I swear by, from any genre - limited to one per artist. I always wanted to do this since the start of the decade and finally got around to it. I’ve had a lot of different musical obsessions up to this point and periods where i was deep into specific genres so I tried to make sure all of that was represented here. Overall it’s a mix of personal classics that I go back to constantly, albums that helped form my taste, and some recently stuff I love. Didn’t want to stress too much over the order, but i’d say the first 50ish are pretty accurate. I’ll post the list below, and a version of the charts with the titles included. Let me know what you think - any favorites here? What would some of your picks be? Let me know. Peace.

Remember when
Charlie/Casper as middle school babies❤️ very fluffy
⚠️middle schoolers⚠️bullying⚠️
No proofread
Idea from @irrelevant-system
“Oh my god…CHUCK, BABY!”
“YEA CAS?” He sounds like his face is full
“COME CHECK THIS OUT!”
Charlie enters the living room and. Yup he’s got a sandwich. “what’s up babe?” With a very large bin in front of them Casper pulls out a photo album that’s practically bursting at the seams. with large newspaper cut letters spelling Casper’s name on the cover“it’s my scrapbook journal from when we were younger!” “I didn’t know you kept a scrapbook!” He glides his hand across the plastered letters “of course you didn’t know! No one was supposed to know is was SECRET. And if I’m correct” They quickly skimmed through the pages before landing on one that was titled First Day “………FOUND IT” “Found what?” They pull him closer and lay their head on his shoulder “the Day we first met” they adjust themselves so Charlie is laying against them and they are resting against the couch armrest and start reading “September 20”
——————————Flashback—————————-
It was an early Monday morning the first day of school for many and as it goes trouble was already starting amongst them.
“What’s the matter chuck!” The bigger kid shoved the blonde boy to the ground and started hitting him “OW! That hurts!” ““OW! That hurts!” What are you gonna do about chuck? huh? Gonna cry Chuck? Is the little rat gonna cry?! I’m gonna give you a reason to cry little punk!” Before the kid could swing his fist again it was stopped by an unfamiliar hand “you wanna try that shit again Ass!” “who the hell are you!?” “i’m gonna be your worst nightmare if you don’t stop beating on him!” he rips his fist back with a smug face “oh yeah? What are you gonna do if I don’t?” in response The kid raises their bat and with an expression on their face that you’d see in the exorcist “i’m going to turn your brains into maggot food” the bigger kid stammered back before running away.
they turn around to the blonde boy on the ground behind them “hey there. Are you OK?” The Blonde boy was hyperventilating, quickly trying to wipe the tears off of his face “yeah yeah I’m fine.T Thanks for that. B by the way” the kid pulls off their backpack and takes a few things out “hear you got a cut on your face let me get it” they take a hello Kitty Band-Aid out of a little red pouch and carefully place it over the cut on his cheek “here have a sip” “Are you sure you wanna let me Drink outta ya water bottle? Ya never know what someone eats for breakfast” they shove the plastic bottle in his hands “I’ll take my chances”
They both start walking to school
“So what’s ya name freckles?” “O oh uh Charlie..what’s yours?” “[Name]….I never liked my name though…Always preferred nicknames” “Well all be sure to think of one to call ya if ya ever wanna see my Sissy face again” they looked at him puzzled “Charlie. Why would I not want to see you again?” Charlie looks down at his shoes “well that’s some first impression….getting the snot beat outta me…and tearing up like a baby” they grabbed his hand and held it “I never believe in first impressions. Because that’s all they are. first. the most important part of a first impression is making sure it’s not your last impression” Charlie laughs and holds their hand a little tighter “where’d you learn that?” “I don’t really know….maybe just in the air”
Weeks went past as they often do. And the Two were as buddies as buddies could be.
“CHARLIE! Look what I got for my birthday!” “A new skateboard! I know you were really upset after ya last one busted” they Dropped the board on the ground “you wanna Try?” “OH! No no I’m tooo clumsy for that maybe some other time” “I can show you how to Casper! It’s one of my favorite tricks!” “yea. Maybe you could show me how to Casper”
———————present —————————————
“damn. that feels like for fucking ever a go” “….do you think anyone ever predicted that we’d be like this?” “um. No I don’t think urban exploration, untrained animal rescue and you railing me was ever on anyone’s Charlie&Casper bingo card” they both laugh, and Casper hit him in the leg with a couch pillow “NOT What I meant. I mean, do you think anyone ever saw us together?” “well I did get a good old fashion. I told you so from my folks not too sure about anybody else though” “well freckles, if you really look at it..only a couple things have changed. I’m still patching your clumsy ass up!” Charlie rolls over and sits up on his knees “ew! Don’t call me freckles you haven’t called me that since high school it feels weird” “oh, and what would you prefer me call you~” “baby, sweetheart, love, Charlie the pizza rat, maybe~” Casper threw a pillow decking Charlie causing him to fall back on the couch “i’ll stick with baby girl. Thank you”
The two spent the rest of the night. Looking through the book as well as looking through any of the other old memories Casper had in their box from home. a few home videos they had filmed on whatever camera they could find. a few Polaroids of them on a field trips, or at the skate park. Old memories.
Grateful that now they have the chance to make new ones.
This is small. But decent. I need to see canon little Charlie more than I need life

the 70s is one of my favorite time periods for pop culture but it's one of THE greatest time periods in popular music history. disco, rock, pop, r&b, folk, funk, punk, basically every genre all churning out some of the best albums in their respective histories.
rumours, what's going on, dark side of the moon, born to run, songs in the key of life, blue, all things must pass, london calling, the wall, bitches brew, maggot brain, theres a riot goin on, blood on the tracks, ziggy stardust, sweet baby james -- almost all of these considered some of the best albums ever made -- came out in the same decade.
for one decade, miles davis, the beatles, marvin gaye, bob dylan, bruce springsteen, talking heads, dolly parton, ABBA, pink floyd, stevie wonder, queen, the clash, the carpenters, donna summer, kate bush, earth wind and fire, the o'jays, chic and soooo many more legendary artists were releasing some of the best work of their careers. at the same time.
this isnt even getting into amazing one hit wonders and hits from less famous artists like ring my bell, dancing in the moonlight, i'm not in love etc. i cant even wrap my head around all this amazing music coming out at the same time, it's like a renaissance to me.
