Watching the MTG Pro Tour and been following Nicole Tipple who;

Saw the Pro Tour at a Magicfest like, a year or two ago.

Studied Modern for 9 days

Immediately won a Modern RCQ

And is now 8-3 at her first PT rope-a-doping pros with the sickest deck imaginable.

Celebrations in my Harry Potter DR!!

Masquerade Ball

Every New Year’s Eve, there’s a masquerade ball held in the Great Hall. Students who stay on campus for the winter can look forward to this New Year’s Eve dance. Students wear formal attire and masks which are removed at midnight to celebrate the new year.

Valentines Day Dance

To celebrate the day of love, there is a Valentine’s Day dance held in the great hall. Although teachers may be monitoring the dance, they still aren’t able to stop students from leaving early to celebrate on their own. (👀)

Spring Dance

Taking place on the first day of spring, a dance is held in the outer courtyard. The courtyard is decorated with bright colors and flowers, as well as actual fairies whose lights change to match the mood of the music.

Winter Formal

The winter formal is a celebration to celebrate the beginning of winter. It’s held on December 15th so that it doesn’t overshadow the Yule Ball. Although it’s called a formal, the winter formal is actually only semi-formal.

Fright Night

annual Halloween party held hogwarts great hall. There are three sections of the party: The dance, the games, and the haunted house. The dance is held in the great hall, including a snack bar. The games are held in the entrance hall, set up and monitored by teachers and student volunteers . The haunted house is held in the entrance courtyard, also set up and monitored by teachers and student volunteers.

MagicFest

During June, Hogsmeade hosts A festival to celebrate our progession as a magical community. It features both muggle and magical games, foods, and many more. A carnival is included as well. (Made this after a cute fic I saw😭)

Honeydukes Grams

During the month of February, honeydukes sells chocolates and candy grams that are sent to your loved ones. These can be anonymous or not.

Sorry about the lack of updates recently. I'm heading out to MagicFest Vegas this weekend (a Magic the Gathering convention because yes, that is the brand of nerd I've developed into). My new job scheduled me for every day this week up until the convention, which I'm actually really grateful for since it means I don't have to worry about losing out on money, but it also has left little time for much of anything.

Updates should be coming back more regularly though, I'm hoping to put out a few during the convention, and if not that then afterwards my schedule will be more fluid.

What kind of MTG formats do you play? Paper or arena?

I played Arena for about 1-2 months. It was a great tool to help me learn how to play the game. I quickly realized that Arena is a scam. You dont own the cards. It is insanely difficult to grind out real decks as a f2p player, and WotC could shut the client down and make off with your money whenever they wanted. MTGO is still a better way to play online Magic if you are desperately craving it.

I played paper for a very long time but recently (in the last like 1.5 years) sold out of the majority of my collection after WotC pulled the bullshit with the 30th anniversary edition. After that I decided I would rather have a down payment for a house than $15,000 in cardboard.

I used to play Modern & Standard competitively, and would regularly go to SCG, MagicFest and other 2k+ events. Top 8 a couple times at smaller events but I was never good enough to actually make a name for myself. This was all pre Covid.

After Covid I pretty much only played casual EDH / Commander and that's basically the only format I play now with proxied cards.

It was a long night, but so far it had been a blast. He’d even managed to make a couple new acquaintances which was beyond cool. Nearing midnight though, he wanted to be around more familiar faces. Anyone but Bunny even if she was smoking hot in her outfit. Lucky went to get a drink and look for someone. He’d thought about texting Lol but didn’t know if she would see it. Apparently just the idea caused their paths to cross because he noticed her near the dancefloor a minute or two later. “Lol!” He called and weaved through the people blocking his path to her. “Hey, I’m so happy to see you. I can’t believe this is the first time all night.” With her bright pink hair he thought she would have been easy to spot but he had not seen her at all. “I was just thinking about you and here you are. I must have magicfested it or mannychested or whatever it is.” He had heard several of the women in his life say it but he always forgot what it was called.

Commandfest Seattle this weekend was super fun. Much smaller than a MagicFest, maybe a thousand people. Felt much more like an old Grand Prix

I played in three pre-releases. Day 1, I built a BG deck with double Glissa and a Glistening Dawn. I thought the deck was quite solid, but I narrowly went 0-2 :( . Day 2, I built WB Phyrexian tribal, featuring Phyrexian Censor, Norn's Inquisitor, and Sculpted Perfection, with double Hope of Ghirapur. That deck went 3-0, which is my first in a long time. Day 3, my pool was stacked, and I built a super greedy deck with Polukranos Reborn, Renata, King Kenrith, OG Voriclex, and Aurelia. Yes, I was splashing a RRWW card in a deck that was trying to get a GGG card on turn 3, and it worked (once). That deck only went 1-2, losing to a 5c deck that cast Invasion of Alara all three games I played against it

Best part of events like this are the artists though. Got a ton of new signatures, including a print and two artist proofs from Mark Tedin. I traded in some stuff at a vendor to get the promo Nykthos so I could have Alayna Danner sign it. Ragavan and the praetors were my top pulls

There was also a giant Kogla and Yidaro on the prize wall, which I was nowhere close to winning and I'm so sad

Mystery Boosters Look Amazing!

Hipsters of the Coast has quite a few pics of the “play test” cards included in the boosters. And now I’m going to avoid anything else about the set so I can enjoy them as intended (mysteriously) in March of next year.

Definitely has a silver border vibe with those wild play test cards. I absolutely adore it and hope I can figure out a way to play it before then.

On that front, anyone in/near Columbus, OH who wants to look into carpooling to PAX Unplugged or any upcoming MagicFests, hit me up. Not sure my work schedule will allow it but if it’s possible, I want to make it happen.
