Maid Kim and Lord Park have such a great relationship arc even though it's usually played for comic relief. (and I don't really like him, she's great)

In Season 1, she asks if he would save her from Jinyowon (Right after Jang Uk saves Mu Deok) and he says he would lock her in to save the world, but it would break his heart. She scoffs and asks why he can't just flirt with her like a normal person.

But it's not just a joke to him, he is serious. He would let her die to save the world. And she does not understand how important his job is and how serious he is about it.

And then of course it actually happens in Season 2 and Lord Park is the sentimental one, allowing relics to escape because he wants to save his wife, and Maid Kim screams at him to shut the door and kill her to save the world. She has fully accepted his responsibility and morality, to the point of sacrificing herself for it.

Somehow, I love both choices. Jang Uk would let the world burn to save Naksu, Lord Park would let Maid Kim die to save it. But it works because both of them are staying true to their version of morality and both pairs accept that choice.

one thing i love about alchemy of souls is that it's a collection of all these powerful, capable men who are also such idiots, and the respective women in their lives knocking some sense into them

The fact the master Lee was the one to reveal Naksu's history to maidservant Kim which led to her giving Naksu's father his first real memorial service and she was able to mourn her father's loss and the death of her own innocence was just so heartbreakingly beautiful. Only maidservant Kim would be warm-hearted enough to give them a service and only master Lee could be understanding enough to support and compliment her for her decision, Park Jin would literally never understand. I've never had second couple second lead syndrome😭😭😭😭😭😭

If Maid Servant Kim found out how Master Lee and Master Jin treated her adopted son, Jung Uk she would fall for Master Lee in a heartbeat.

Master Jin followed along with Jung Uk’s “father” by keeping his energy locked the entire time when he could have easily unlocked it. Once his power unlocked, Master Jin wanted to banish him so he could never learn how to master his powers. When that didn’t work he tried to lock him away in Songraim forever.

Master Lee on the other hand has helped train him and unlocked his potential. He’s given him creative tasks to master each type of energy he needs. He helped him read the book and master Chisu. If going fishing and having a heart to heart isn’t father son bonding, I dunno what is.

I ship them so hard!

How dare the Hong sisters make most of the episode cute and happy and then pull that cliffhanger ending 😭😭 how do they expect us to wait till December 😭😭. How is the crown prince not sus of jinmu he was literally sus of anyone in the beginning. how is naksu gonna clear her name and what is jang uk gonna do after he finds out that all of this was shitmu's work. I have so many questions

Netflix subtitles call actress Oh Na Ra's character "Maidservant Kim" and that rubs me the wrong way every time I read it.

She's more steward than servant of the Jang household. If her character was male, he wouldn't have been mis-titled like this.

Kim Do-joo (as other characters call her) represents the Jangs in the absence of Jang Uk's father. She's also in charge of all Jang household decisions, including being responsible for fixing Jang Uk's marriage. She's treated with respect by the mages of Songrim.

So, it utterly bewilders me that the netflix subtitlers thought "Maidservant" was the correct designation for her role.

I’m gonna go ahead with the same reasoning you had of it being from any form of media so I choose Alchemy of Souls cuz I’m currently LIVING for just how sweet Jang Uk and Mu-deok’s relationship is (straight media, ik it’s a shocker)

Note that my char analysis is only based on up to where I’ve watched in ep 16 so far tho:

Naksu/Mu-deok: She’s a ten but murder of a specific Young Master is always on her mind

Jang Uk: He’s a ten but he owns a very extensive fishing rod collection

Seo Yul: He’s a ten but he’s still hung up on a chick that blew his whistle once (not a euphemism) 

Park Dang-gu: He’s a ten but he used to wear that neon green checkered hanbok despite not being under duress

Jin Cho-yeon: She’s a ten but she framed an innocent servant for grand theft cuz she was a bit clumsy^TM

Park Jin: He’s a ten but he can’t take a fucking hint (just talk to Maidservant Kim I’m begging you)

Maidservant Kim: She’s a ten but she keeps trying to compare a random girl to Jang Uk’s dead mom (I understand where she’s coming from but idt that any person would want to be with the replica of their parents during sexy time)

One of the most moving moments in the whole show is when Maid Kim learns about Naksu's past and feels so sad about it (and protective of Jang Uk) that she holds a funeral for Cho Yeong. And not just any funeral, a good funeral.

No wonder Jang Uk is a good person underneath his selfishness. He was raised by someone who is so loving and warm-hearted that she can't hear the history of a cold-blooded assassin without feeling deep compassion.

And then the fact that the girl she is honouring is actually in her house is just, I can't even

Why do the adults go from smart to stupid so quickly?

1. Park Jin - realized that jin mu and the queen have the ice stone and are making soul shifters but couldnt figure out that Mudeok/Naksu and Jang Uk are more than servant and master?

2. Heo Yeom - notices all the romance around him but couldnt figure out Jang Uk likes his maid instead of Yun Ok

3. Jin Ho-gyeong - spent 10 years searching for her daughter but doesnt give any mind to the maid who supposedly open jinyowon doors?

4. Jin Mu - raised an assassin to hide the fact that he's creating soul shifters but couldnt figure out whose the person who suddenly arrive and changed Jang Uk?

5. Maidservant Kim - raised the lazy trouble making Jang Uk but couldnt figure out why he cared for much a maid he barely knew?

The way that mama Kim spoke love into her baby Ukie was the best thing about today's episode🥺🥺 telling him that he's precious to her no matter what he does which is so unlike everyone else in his life.

I tried, I really tried liking Master Park this season. He was doing such a good job of  not being overbearing this season. It was a blessing for his character that he retired because he made the worst decisions.

But this. This was too much.

Uk was grieving for Mudeok and rightfully wanted vengeance, especially since they technically killed him, too. Master Park has kept the secret of his birth Uk’s entire life, knowing how much he wondered about it.

Master Park told Uk that not only that he should never have been born but also that the woman he loved more than anything was killed because of him and that all of her suffering was caused by his existence.

Master Park was a father figure to Uk and chose the moment Uk was at his lowest to tell him the truth in the cruelest way possible.

Maidservant Kim deserves better. But let’s face it, she has horrible taste in men. Her previous crush was Master Jang and we all know what a prize he was.

I have never felt more in sync with a character than with Kim Dojoo at Jang Uk’s immolation. Never.
