Do you know Slay The Princess? It's a horror and kinda like ddlc!
Ooo what a way to catch my attention I'm a MASSIVE DDLC lover!!!
I've heard of it and I've tried to get into it, but sadly it didn't catch my attention? To no fault of it's own I think the game breaking reality breaking aspect was neat, but it didn't hook me to want to know more!
What I love ddlc so much about is it's critique on the media it uses! I love it's writing a lot and how it uses the- uH
I can ramble a lot about ddlc actually perhaps I should spare you ^^
But I think Slay The Princess is probably really cool I just didn't manage to sink in it.

Im curious, do you have any headcanons about kirby and susie’s relationship after planet robobot? I feel like they could potentially have an interesting dynamic but i dont have any specific thoughts myself
Although they certainly didn’t get off to the best start, I’d like to think Kirby and Susie are friends in the present.
Kirby, contrary to her initial belief, understands her speech perfectly - certainly a deeply awkward revelation for the poor secretary. Having earned her respect for besting her in combat and her gratitude for stopping Star Dream, Susie treats him like a peer and not an inferior - a Person! A Whole Person! Just Like Her! Wow! He even likes ice cream, taking gadgets apart and playing around with technology; these aliens, she muses, perhaps they’re just like us, really. Or at least this one is.
And Kirby shows her care and kindness in turn, having a tendency to forgive most fairly easily when they show a willingness to do better. She kind of has to learn some things the hard way, though; namely that “you’re not like all those other Popstar folk - you’re a credit to your planet’s people, Pinky.” is Not Really A Compliment, he stresses, a bit beleaguered.
Susie is stranded on this alien backwater planet and lives in one of the sparse remaining mechanized remnants in Patched Plains, in a steel-and-glass ‘cottage’. It’s not the IDEAL arrangement, but she’s comfortably slipping into a pleasant routine and making it feel like a proper home — aqua-and-pink chrome everything, plushies, makeup, a treadmill, a coffee maker, an ice cream machine, plenty of tools and games and gadgets. Plus, it’s a whole lot better than… the last time this happened.
Kirby brings her small gifts and makes sure she’s eating and hydrating right and not overworking herself too much. Her palate isn’t really used to many of the foods on Planet Popstar, being quite rich and highly seasoned, but a sweet tooth like hers does appreciate its desserts. Sometimes Kirby gets to sample whatever flavours she’s been cooking up in her liquid nitrogen ice cream maker (lately, it’s freeze-dried, caramelized volcano banana gelato).
Overall, Kirby’s happy she’s recovering and trying (TRYING) to do better for herself, and Susie’s happy to have a friendly presence in an unfamiliar place. go white girl! go look at my main bitch go! look at my white girl go! go white girl. she’s a little offbeat, but she’s doing it!

THE AMAZING DIGITAL CIRCUS!... Is Good.
And that understated response is also kind of my condemnation of it. That as an independent, Youtube dark comedy series, it's just about what you'd expect. Really in your face with some elements, lingering a bit too long on others but in general pretty enjoyable. After all, if a series about existential dread and parodying game development for its comedy and horror sounds appealing to you, you will probably like this.
youtube
BUT if that thumbnail makes you squint like I did, you might not come away with an amazing opinion of it. I actually saw this thumbnail when it first came out and IMMEDIATELY dismissed it as not for me. Like I said, I actually did end up liking it, its visuals are much better than this thumbnail suggests, but it is kind of in your face with how 'weird' it is, at least times, like you'd expect from this picture.
But I did like it. I'm just in this weird limbo where I like it... But I don't feel inclined to really praise anything. Nothing in this wowed me. The biggest compliment I feel like giving, no caveats, is that the animation is genuinely good. How it's being used isn't always for me but I can respect the craft and effort put into it. A couple errors here and there but honestly nothing that I wouldn't let slide in a bigger professional work for the most part (there's once where the glitch effect on Pomni's hand is just gone when it shouldn't be as an example).
I have two main complaints so far that worry me going forward. The first is a pacing issue. You could cut four minutes out of this, lose nothing and really help there be some amount of snappiness to this. Have the comedy and horror both flow better because it's rarely trying to build a bunch of tension or atmosphere with its slowness, it's just... Slow. Period. Not to the point of being bad but to the point where you start feeling how long things are taking.
The other has to do with the main character: Pomni. She has no personality currently. Narratively that's actually fine. She's effectively just accidentally dropped herself into purgatory and that's a pretty shit situation and where a lot of the existential dread is from. There's no way out and very little to do. That is HARD to handle. The problem is she never gets to break the image of a trauma doll for the entire episode. At best she shows that she's willing to abandon this place for self preservation which could lead to her choosing the inhabitants over herself later... Or just as well be for emphasizing a 'natural' reaction to the place. I don't know because as far as who she is, a tweaked out expression with little thought behind the eyes is kind of all we have.
I do want to give one scene a shout out as a change of pace from these two critiques though: The scene when Pomni comes back to Ragatha is actually really good. The glitchy animation is great, the voice acting on Ragatha is really good, Pomni apologizing is a good sign that she'll grow to care for these people and while I won't say the scene couldn't have been done more quickly, the slower pacing actually did allow for the unsettling elements of the corruption to seep into the scene rather than just feel like a gimmick. The show does have genuine promise and that scene was easily the standout of the episode for me.
The final thing is a personal one. I didn't find Nier Automata very compelling but I don't find existential dread that interesting unless you DO something with that question. If your whole point is "Doesn't monotony and entropy suck?" (not saying that's Automata's point, just that that's how many sidequests felt) that I just don't get into it. I don't find that by itself interesting. The plus side is that the cast is actually made in a way where they could be a bunch of archtypes just put together for an ensemble... Or they could be various responses to trying to deal with this dread. To showcase how one handles the concept of eternal monotony and repetition.
I just don't know if that's actually what they're doing. I don't really know what this show is doing besides "Everyone wants to get out of this game dev purgatory." That's not a bad concept but I wouldn't call it a great pilot. It is good enough that I'll be keeping an eye out for episode 2 and I might try out the studio's previous outing, Murder Drones, which I've been recommended by my Discord before.
And if literally any of this sounds even intriguing to you, I really do suggest trying the show out. It's good enough that it deserves your support as a very well made, indie animation project and I hope it gets better and better as it goes forward.

Where to go from here?
Tumblr media
OH HEY ITS BEEN A REAL HOT MINUTE SINCE I TALKED ON HERE. And oh boy do I have... thoughts. :T Mostly regarding my blog, Ask October Fox. There is a lot to read here..
Wow ok so.. this is a post that I have been putting off pretty much all year long. It was one of those “I will cross that bridge when I get there” and oh boy, wouldnt you know it.. there’s the bridge. I had wanted to make this sooner but for some reason my brain just wouldnt let me. Im posting this here first since I think about 90% of people who follow October, follow me here too, so this seems like where I might reach the most people but I will also reblog this on her blog as well. I have just been trying to gather my thoughts, but it feels like every time I do, I just end up with a scattered mess trying to explain myself. Id like to keep this short but.. well thats not going to happen, i’ll try tho So... to be upfront with a somewhat TLDR, I dont know how much more I will be running my ask blog. This doesnt mean October herself is going anywhere, she’ll still be around, I just dont know if it will be here. Its a bit of a complicated matter, and one that I have been struggling with since the beginning of the year. My main problem is that I dont know if I can physically keep doing it. I know I had mentioned last year about the amount of pain I was in with my old tablet and how hard it was getting to draw. But on the plus side, since getting a monitor tablet, a new desk and set up, those problems have gotten significantly better. Every so often they might flare up, but with regular breaks, slightly more structured schedule, and daily exercising, its few and far between. So on that front im good! I still dont want to risk getting hurt again, which is why im just unsure if I can put that kind of strain on myself again.. and it doesnt help that I feel like im drawing slower than I used to, tho that could just be me. Secondly, is.. is there anyone here anymore? I used to check Tumblr every day, multiple times a day, and then I just... left for like 3 months bc it felt like hardly anyone was here anymore (another reason why I didnt make this post sooner. I have avoidance issues.). I feel like I might have joined Tumblr around its peak, just before The Ban™️ came down and most people- rightfully- left. October’s story is finally starting to come to light and while it was something I have been planning for a while now, the big story isnt something that I want to do to an empty audience, if that makes any sense. And thats on me, really. I waited too long. Thirdly, there were/are certain things that needed to happen before I could tell that story- and sadly I feel as tho I am missing a big key factor that is needed to link the story to the next part. But without that key factor...I feel like Id to have to retcon the entire story. Not that that in itself is a terrible thing, the story has been ever changing for a while now, but this had been one of the main things I had planned for a long time now. Not to mention I still want to tell stories of some of the other characters. There are a few more personal reasons, but these are just the main ones. Im just.. not sure what to do anymore. I would still like October to continue to interact with people, that is something that I have greatly enjoyed in the past couple of years with the quick replies, and thats what she was meant to be all about for the most part. Im planning on having October doing stuff outside of this blog this year- lots of ideas planned, like streaming art and maybe some games- but as far as the nightly comics.. eehh... So I guess my question is this.. would people rather I just tell them the rest of the story, or would people rather I still try and draw it out, tho more like a graphic novel style and not in a full comic form? Tho again going back to the the third section, I still have to figure out how that would play out anyway. I hate to say how much this has been stressing me out, and how much I am upset with myself over how things have played out. Many things I probably should have done differently but now im just going to have to roll with it. As mentioned the story, October, and the characters arent going anywhere. There are still stories and characters to be talked about, I just dont know how or where that will be.  There is a lot more than I could go on about but for now I think its best to end this rambling here. Once I get some input or answers then I will move onto the next step. I apologize for the massive wall of text here, and for anyone who read all of it, I cant thank you enough for that. For now I will continue to work on the planned projects, as I still have a little time to finish those things up, but wow.. September is sure moving a lot faster than I would like :T

ok. we r back. and crazy. but so so back. akane here is so fun to explore because she is so desperate to not feel anything she associates with weakness and to avoid all potential forms of vulnerability that she has cut herself out of the lives of everyone she loves and just kind of. forced them to deal with the aftermath. ofc it's not like she EXACTLY knew but she's still done it. but there's clearly something going on and she's clearly struggling and something has clearly HAPPENED and no one will mention exactly what it was. you have no idea how much i want to figure it out..... ive been sleuthing. trying to figure out everything i can. what HAPPENED to freak her out SO BAD.....
ok that is a LOT wow. my filter goes away when it's late and it is LATE so that's my bad. one of the few days i have before i go back to work though!! i can't exactly ask you exactly what happened but i think my main points of curiousity are more on the specifics of the perspectives akane's class has on her as well as the one she has on them.... any notes you have on her mentality or her public perception not completely explored as well.... tldr as much as you can about current situations w/o complete spoilers lmfao. akane you are such a case study. you deserve your own little spot in the dsm5
SHES SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO. SHES JUST SO
as always gonna throw this under read more EL OH EL!!! talking about this fic :]
akane opddmh is an extreme case of distancing yourself from anything that makes you upset and its gotten to the point where she is not only severely hurting herself because of it but other people are falling into the crossfire!! she definitely doesnt INTEND to be hurting people-- she truly believes that others should not be worrying about her and that her being ignored by the company is entirely her responsibility-- but she unfortunately has. and IS CURRENTLY lol. so much of akane's story is about what she's missed, and that includes the struggles of her classmates that she's been trying very desperately to avoid. my friend essie made a really good point in a comment-- she mentioned that akane is caught in this awful limbo where she is aware there is a reason why she is avoiding her classmates, but she is also clearly in the wrong. and it's a difficult thing to stomach, especially when thinking about the topic is something that brings back some god awful memories.
hehehehehe i cant reveal what exactly went down just yet!!!!!! but concerning what happened to make her leave it's important to remember what weakness means to akane and how her mentality has very greatly been warped after her killing game. strength and being perceived as strong is important for opddmh akane, to the point where it is detrimental to her own health. one of the main reasons for her leaving is shame over whatever happened, which i think is important to keep in mind :]
i also cant reveal the ENTIRE class' reaction to her leaving/their thoughts about her mainly because i plan on getting around to them >:) MOSTLY everybody still feels some kind of worry for her, as mentioned explicitly by sonia and kazuichi but also mentioned offhandedly by people like mahiru and nekomaru. In other people's povs, i try to make the cast of season 2 bring up akane in casual conversation, but nothing too in depth. a lot of these people have grown somewhat tired of her shenanigans, so while most of them haven't given up on her or become completely indifferent towards her they still keep talk about akane to a minimum if they can. because they know the answer already: they're not gonna get one. and it's disheartening to have to hear it from mikan, rather than akane herself. plus, those who are burdened with a lot of the danganronpa work (like hajime, chiaki, and sonia) not only view akane as somebody who needs to come back for personal reasons but also for work related reasons. it becomes a tricky tightrope walk of wanting to be a good friend and giving her space versus needing her to pick up some slack already
akane views a lot of her classmates through the same blanket statement of "these people were all there when It™ happened and they are old classmates", and tends to not view them individually if she can help it. if she ever got to the point where she thought about them one by one and what they meant to her she might spiral entirely LMFAO. she isn't completely sure what they think about her but she assumes it is entirely negative across the board, which says a lot about how she views herself and what she's done as well. and in her defense, some of them do view her in a negative light! this includes gundham, who we recently learned was one of the first people to confront her about how much she's left behind.
mikan is an entirely different story however-- in akane's mind she lives in a seperate bubble from her class, somebody who isn't represented by that blanket statement despite BEING there when It™ happened along with the rest of them. and a lot of that has to do with mikan's timidness and her refusal to upset akane-- she's very likely the only person who hadn't started the conversation with some variation of "do you wanna talk about what happened" after everything went down. there will be more of an elaboration about mikans role in akanes history further down the line, but for now just know that they both view each other positively, and akane has convinced herself that a large part of that is because of her refusal to be seen as weak.
public perception is a whooollleeee other question ghfdjsghkfdgj. team danganronpa in opddmh is excellent at finding a character's box and forcing them to stay in it, no matter how watered down or one-dimensional they start to become. because more and more killing game survivors had arrived over the years, survivors that the public saw as a lot more interesting than somebody like akane, she's been brushed off to the side a bit. she's mentioned in her own internal dialogue that this comes with benefits but also consequences-- she's happy she doesnt have to be in the spotlight all of the time but she isn't well taken care of in the company. she is also frequently sexualised, a part of her job she absolutely can not stand to even think about. she isn't the most intelligent person but she is certainly aware of what role danganronpa has stuck her into, and even if she tries to play dumb about it she is a lot wiser than she used to be in regards to how she's treated
JESUS THAT WAS A LOT THAT I JUST TYPED SORRY!!!! THANKS FOR THE QUESTION AND GOOD LUCK AT WORK!! 😃👍🏻

Personally, Stormblood has always been on the discontent side for me. I was invited to try FFXIV in the last days of Heavensward by an acquiantenance. And was nearly completely uninterested in the experience. I got to maybe level 30 back when Paladin used Flash to gather enmity. And was so use to WoW's whack-a-mole ability system that the GDC felt sluggish and unwieldy. Plus the main story, the strongest point and selling point of any FF game was locked behind grind-a-thon leveling? People's suggestions at the time to even level through from 30 - 40 was to do levequests. And that was...an entire 12 hours I'm not getting back. And it seemed like too my grind for too little story at the time. So I dropped it.
I came back again when Legion was about to hit for WoW and I was kind of burnt out on WoD grinds and felt a brick wall in place of anything of interest. You had to spend TP for Sprint and like...Samurai's AoEs consumed a god awful amount of that so it severely limited them. But hey, at least I had gotten to Heavensward this time and found it...okay? It was overhyped and felt like it under delivered. Sure the questing and flying made it a breath of fresh air compared to grinding pre-patched Post-ARR but man I expected it to come out with chocolate cake and a free house for me to live in for the rest of my life. But it was just a decent little expansion and I pushed through it and its post to the beginning of Stormblood. Where I got my first experience with the frustrating fight with Zenos and got to the beginnings of the Ruby Sea before I just bounced off it once again. And went back to WoW to enjoy the entirety of Legion.
But then BFA happened and god damn was I just...so fucking burnt out on grinding World Quests, Reputation, Dailies, and so forth. That I was like "Fuck it, fine. I will literally Dark Souls this game by bashing my head against the metaphorical brick wall and get through this." So I leveled through the Ruby Sea. Fought Susanoo for the first time and then...and I shit you not, the literal moment I left Susanoo and entired the cutscene after, my graphics card died. Since I was still a poor College student at the time. It took my 3 months or doing odd jobs and getting paid under the table to save up enough for a new one. But I decided if I was going to bang my head against the wall, I better do it proper.
So I created Genixma and bashed my head all the way through the A Realm Reborn thru Stormblood MSQ. This was the dying days of Stormblood, so the Shadowbringers hype train was going. And while it LOOKED cool, I had been burnt by Heavenswards' overhyped expansion before. So I just sort of meandered through the story. And found Stormblood...completely underwhelming. The Yda to Lyse beat felt weird, Zenos did jack shit the entire time, I didn't like Fordola or even know why Yotsuyu was here and then gone. The Azim Steppe felt like Dances with Wolves but like...in the worst way possible. The FUCKING AETHER CURRENT PLACEMENTS IN THE LOCHS (at the time) CAN KISS MY FUCKING ASS! And like, the ending to Zenos and everything was like...it felt like I played A Realm Reborn but condensed to 10 levels of story.
The only good thing I enjoyed about Stormblood is that I didn't have to level two jobs to unlock my advanced job. And Bard felt amazing to play. It literally had its own rhythm. But since the MSQ didn't blow me out of the water. I decided to just engage with the Roleplaying community on Mateus (this was before Realm Travel was a thing, so you just had to make do). Met some cool people, failed at making an active guild, and then Shadowbringers launched. I started shitposting on here, started a personal vendetta against Titania, and actually, Shadowbringers was the first expansion and beat of the story I really enjoyed. But this is about Stormblood and how it hit at a time where I was just burnt out on the MMORPG experience. So, unfortunately, it didn't get a fair shake but honestly, first impressions are important and Stormblood failed to do it.
So yeah, thats my experience with the game up until Stormblood. I did not care for it or most of its characters. Especially the second half Ala Mhigo which felt SUPER padded like they were trying to squeeze in as much story as Doma had in like...4 - 3 levels of content. And last, and what fucking annoys me to this day. We go to free Doma from Garlean rule so they can aid us in taking back Ala Mhigo. We free Doma and then fight through Ala Mhigo freeing 99.99% of it. And Doma only shows up, LITERALLY, at the last moment. Not as a hail mary but as aerial support. Like...had it not been for Zenos. We could of probably freed Ala Mhigo in the first 5 levels. And its only because Zenos did NOT give a flying FUCK that we did completely retake Ala Mhigo. In fact, Zenos is a nothing burger of a character in hindsight. Its like he was created specifically so we'd have road block to retaking Ala Mhigo in the first 5 levels and force us to go reclaim Doma instead.
Endwalker story telling analysis and metaphors for the character aside. Zenos literally sat around and did jack shit for 3 expansions total. That combined with Doma showing up at literally the last moment and treated with fanfare when it felt like, "Oh, the kid who was sick this entire group project finally came to school today and will get full credit for 0.1% of the work" kind of feeling.
A Realm Reborn was boring and rough. Heavensward was overhyped but also kind of a smooth experience. Stormblood...feels like they should of gone for Ala Mhigo or Doma. Both feels like they were trying to have their cake and eat it.
That was my first reaction to each chunk of the story thus far.
Next week, lets see how many people like Shadowbringers.

now that i've S-ranked every stage in the DLC and also completed the map, just have some final junk thoughts from the sonic frontiers dlc (plus me raving some more about the music) before i move on to another game :)
i know i mentioned that playing as amy is the best out of the new playable characters, and i still stand by that opinion, but MAN is tails' MAX rings cyclone flying ability fun as FUCK. like, i kind of have a hate-love relationship with it. on one hand, who the hell doesn't like flying around the island at max speed? like, oh, there's something all the way over there, let me just ZOOM right over in a few seconds!! AND the fact that you can control its height unlike knuckles' flying is just insanely cool. on the OTHER hand though, yes it cheapens tails' flying ability because honestly once you get the cyclone ability, you don't even have to do any of the set-paths that the game wants you to follow to get to the map kocos or skill kocos. you can just fly up to them and boom, didn't have to do the set path. which is kind of sad because those can be really fun and satisfying to complete, so what i'd end up doing was get to the area where the map koco would be, and instead of just flying up to it, try to follow the path and get the map that way to not just suck the fun out of the entire thing
but also, that one M-puzzle where it lit up 3 or 4 red beams of light all across the island and you had to reach all of them under a time limit??? MAN i think that was my favorite puzzle of all!!! i first bumped into that one when i was playing with amy, and at first i thought i was gonna have to come back to it with sonic since i didn't think i'd get another character that would be as fast as him (also didn't have the spin dash ability yet since this was early in the game). but holy shit once i unlocked that ability and saw just how fucking fast you could fly around the island (skells from xenoblade x my beloved), i immediately went back to that puzzle and just completed it as tails. just so damn awesome!!
and SPEAKING OF the spin dash....wow. amy, knuckles, and tails may not be as fast as sonic, but they become just as fast as him with this skill. and i can't believe i went through the entire main game without using the spin dash more often. spin dashing around the island and abusing the hell of its physics was just something that never got old, even in the sonic stages. i don't think i ever used the fast travel with the portals since i mean....spin dashing everywhere the island is just like a damn dream come true: it's always something i'd do in sonic adventures' mystic ruins but at a smaller scale, but this time? the ouranos island is fucking huge and gorgeous and then with that beautiful music playing in the background and just rolling around everywhere at high speeds AAAAAAAAAA this game is honestly just the perfect sonic game!!!!!
i think i already talked about this earlier but the new stages were super fun and actually challenging to S rank, unlike the main game. there were some i wasn't too fond of (like that one where sonic's speed as "gears"?? what was that lol) but overall they were a joy to replay over and over and try to bring my time down. i think my favorites were definitely 4-A (with the rocket boosters and beehive-looking things) and 4-B (the one with the hologram tails and the falling platforms).
the music. GOD how does sega keep doing this!!! every single new character theme is just so on fucking point, but i gotta say amy wins this one as well: there's something just so hauntingly beautiful about her theme that just honestly fits the overall mood of the game. but honestly, all just so good. i neeeeed to get my hands on the ost, especially since i'm late to the party and realized that now they have a GORGEOUS BEAUTIFUL AMAZING remixed version of the windy and ripply (emerald coast 2) song AKA a song so dear and beloved and nostalgic to my heart that just thinking about it makes me want to cry tears of joy. like, running around the islands with that music playing in the background is just so freeing and beautiful and exciting that just makes you feel glad that you get to experience a sonic game like this.
oh shit got sidetracked talking about this game's overall out-of-this-world soundtrack again um um um what else. i mean, i really don't know what else to say except frontiers just knocked it out of the park and surpassed my expectations in every single way possible. as i was playing the game and would just be exploring the island and completing puzzles/paths, i'd just keep saying to myself "this game is fucking amazing" every once in a while. sega just fucking nailed the 3d sonic formula and any doubt i had about an open-world sonic game was just thrown out the window: i couldn't stop thinking about this being a MUCH larger, more fun, and more gorgeous version of running around mystic ruins than i could have ever imagined, and it's exactly the type of exploration freedom that i had been itching for in a sonic game.
and it goes without saying that sega bringing back amy, tails, and knuckles as playable characters was just soooo fucking good and refreshing to see, and my god did they do them justice. last time they were all playable was, what...sonic adventure?? really?? like, holy crap. sonic frontiers really was a love letter to 3d sonic games and ughhhh i just can't stop saying good things about it. EVERYONE NEEDS TO PLAY THIS GAME!!!
anyway!!! can't wait to see where the sonic 3d series is headed after this, but for now, time to wait for sonic superstars (holy shit that's soon!!!) since that looks fun as hell too, and that's me saying it as someone who prefers 3d sonic vs 2d sonic!

Starhound: April Devlog
I've mentioned the RPGmaker game I'm working on a bit before, and since that's always gonna be pretty slow with me working full-time, I thought it'd be good to keep track of my pace with end-of-the-month progress posts. So! Here's what I've done in April.
(For the record, at the moment I'm actually planning on calling the game "Star Hound Vega", as the [Thing] [Descriptor] [Name] pattern is venerable among tokusatsu and mecha type heroes, but "Starhound" is my name for the setting and stories generally.)
Finished the first dungeon! It took more passes than I thought it would, as it always does, and I'm sure there'll be more tweaks in future, but I have now got to the point where I'm able to play through it and go "wow! that functions as intended without breaking! no notes"
Tumblr media
2. Updated some sprites! Previously Vega's and Nemea's were just placeholders, but I've arrived at some that I feel pretty good about and represent them much better. Placeholders on the left, final sprites on the right:
Tumblr media
I ended up using the "male" creator for Vega, which I think works great for creating butch women. (I have hemmed and hawed a bit over if I'm being Problematic by doing this as she is also the main trans character, however: I am a trans girl and I can do what I want. In seriousness, it is a bit of wish-fulfilment for me--I wish I could be more butch and masc-styled and be read as "a handsome woman" and not "a man", so Vega's living that dream for me. She's a hunk you get it)
I will definitely still need some kind of custom visuals for Vega's henshin hero suit, and Nemea (and her boss, Princess Ascella) when she appears as an enemy.
3. Diversified the music! So a fun thing about RPGMaker is you think you know the small selection of default assets it gives you, but if you dig around in the installed files there's actually a lot more free assets you can transfer in--from walk sprites and portraits from older versions of RPGMaker, to a whole bunch of extra enemy graphics, to a lot more music. In particular, I found some pretty sweet battle themes so now each boss can have its own! (This all mixed in with something I already grabbed right when I started making this--a pack of specifically old toku style music, which is really great for making it feel appropriately flavoured.)
4. Added a town area! The overworld is pretty limited in this, it's not so much travel as using a small consistent hub/base to rest between dungeons (if sequels happen they'll probably be bigger but I'm trying to keep a lid on the minimum viable product scope ykno), but there are a couple additional areas, so...now we have that!
Tumblr media
Got to have some fun populating it with cute characters, which was nice.
5. Started the second dungeon! My main goal this month was to finish the first one, so it's nice to be ahead of schedule.
Tumblr media
I've also figured out some really fun gimmicks for this one, so the first dungeon will serve mostly as a backdrop while you're introduced to the game's core mechanics, then this one will step it up and be more showy in its own right. Figuring out stuff like "oh you can have specific enemy encounters only happen on certain regions of the map" and "oh you can totally hide one-off boss fights inside random encounters" has got me to a concept I'm real happy with.
So yeah, that's where the game's at right now! For May, my main goal is just to finish the second dungeon, but we'll see where that goes. I plan on making a prototype build to toss at some friends once I've done a pass on the third dungeon (the total plan is for five, plus a final area after), but the third one is very short so I might even be able to do that in May too. But no pressure if the second is all I manage, that's the goal.

Initial Persona 5 (Royal) Thoughts
I got Persona 5 Royal for Switch on launch day and started it immediately.
Tumblr media
NOW, five fucking years after its release, I finally have Persona 5 in a format where I can experience it. It’s taken long enough that even the updated release (Royal) is three years old! And given how long these games are, there’s a good chance I’ll be playing it ‘til Christmas or something.
Game Status: I just completed the second of the “Palaces” and am working towards identifying my next target, with my Phantom Thief team now numbering five.
Quick info on my Persona background: I’ve explained this before, but so far I’ve played P3P and P4G already as well as P4DAN and the “Arena” spinoffs. I tried to play P2 Innocent Sin, but I bounced off it pretty hard, so I didn’t get too far. That pretty much scared me away from trying the first game or Eternal Punishment; I guess I understand now why everyone (including Atlus) seems to treat the third game as though it’s where the series began. :P
Initial thoughts on P5R from a newcomer:
When I started out, I strongly suspected that this whole “in media res” opening and the interrogation framing story weren’t present in the original P5. After all, they’re spoiling a bunch of stuff that is otherwise only implied or not yet known at all - showing you the characters that’ll make up your team (implied by the box art but not confirmed), spoiling every single target you’re going after WEEKS before the characters in the game even meet that person, etc. I was surprised to learn that they’ve always been there! I really feel it’d be much better if I wasn’t constantly being spoiled on what my next target’s gonna be all about and sometimes even shown pictures of them. I’m also a simple person who likes seeing narratives gradually escalate in intensity, but now we start out doing a RL heist in the rafters and then we have to step back to invading “mind palaces” where we can expose our identities willy-nilly and it will have zero effect in reality. So I’m like “Wow, this feels REALLY unimportant compared compared to where I need to catch up to.”
Tumblr media
“You’re not wrong, Sae. You’re just an asshole.”
Why must every one of these games include a Good Boy who most of the squad treats like utter shit for no fucking reason?! Out of 3, 4, and 5, the guy who came the closest to maybe, kinda-sorta deserving his treatment as “the bitch” of the group was Junpei. But you better back the fuck off Ryuji right now, squad.
Speaking of those two... I both appreciate and resent Morgana in equal measure. He doesn’t seem like a bad person (cat?), and he’s obviously very helpful. He’s even kind of fun/cute at times. He’s the main resource of information for everybody, all the time. He’s also bossy and controlling in a way that made sense for like, Mitsuru in P3, but like... why must we dance to his every whim constantly? Why must our every action feel like it’s dictated by him? I understand that the answer is most likely “because somebody has to be an exposition dump and provide tutorials,” but you could do the tutorials JUST via the pop-up windows. Morgana feels like the the puppet master and true leader of the group. Protag/Ren is a figurehead who is dancing to his tune. They should’ve done like P3 and just said “Protag/Ren is the field leader for combat and exploration, but MORGANA is the actual leader who makes decisions and oversees plans.” But no, they had to put it all on Ren despite any evidence for that at this point. Which is irksome to me. ................ But hey, at least Morgana isn’t a repeat of Teddy or something, which I admit was my initial fear when I saw the “odd-looking mascot character who we first encounter in the other world and is somehow warped by it.”
Tumblr media
He means Morgana, right?
Ann just... doesn’t really stand out to me. I guess this series already has a habit of repeating character traits and personalities, and there’s only so many tropes you can smoosh together (plus there are undoubtedly characters that I never even met), but Ann still feels like she’s not much of a unique person yet. There are elements of Yukiko (P4) and Lisa (P2) and Rise (P4) in there, but I’m still not feeling like I know her as herself yet, if that makes sense? This is the kind of thing where the individual bonding levels will probably fill in the gaps. At least she’s likable enough for the person she is right now. And hey, I found her efforts to deceive/avoid Yusuke during the second arc to be legit hilarious.
Yusuke? Him, I like. He seems distinctive from any characters I’ve met before in this series. Of course, I might just be ignorant of someone similar from P2EP or P1, but my limited experience finds him to be unique and generally likable.
The fact that it took MONTHS for anyone to ask Ren why he has a criminal record and what his side of the story is feels pretty insensitive to him. But the way Sojiro never cares ONCE to hear what happened, just shits all over you constantly and treats you like a little piece of crap and distrusts you non-stop and only softens at all when you start working for him for free? Yeah, FUCK Sojiro. I said it.

I’ll pass on the frost-rimed rose-tinted glasses
A tiny part of me wants to play WotLK Classic but I don’t think I will.  Yes, it was the high point of the franchise for me in a lot of ways, but I know from my brief foray into vanilla Classic that playing it now doesn’t actually recapture that magic.  If anything, the nostalgia made me feel kind of sad.  They can recreate the game as far as graphics and mechanics, but it will never feel the same because I’m not the same person I was a decade ago.
[Negativity warning for the next paragraph.  Just venting, no discourse please.]  There’s also a bitter taste in my mouth about that part of lore since Shadowlands butchered it, pissed on its corpse, burned it to ash, and then pissed on the ashes.  Blizzard, through a twisted echo of who Sylvanas used to be, told us to forget all about Arthas and his legacy, then turns around and expects us to shell out a bunch of money for mounts and other perks in WotLK Classic?  Excuse me?  No.  You’re on thin ice (no pun intended) already.  You can lure me back to retail with dragons, but you’ll have to pardon me if I skip out on being reminded how badly you dealt with the Lich King-related lore.
Plus, even if I did get really invested in WotLK Classic, I’d abandon it in a few months to dive into Dragonflight.  Because dragons.
YMMV, and I hope everyone who is playing WotLK Classic has an absolute blast.  It really was a special era in the game’s history.
I’m also struggling to find motivation to play retail WoW after over a year away from it.  I leveled a hunter through Shadowlands and did some BFA stuff with other alts, but I haven’t touched my main and I don’t really plan to until the Dragonflight prepatch hits.  I understand Zereth Mortis is fairly fun, but so is playing Sims 3 and AoE 2, which I’ve been doing instead, as well as dabbling with my original writing.
(I’ve also been super busy and stressed with work, as we move back into our fully remodeled and expanded building, and prepare to reopen to the public in a week or so.  Aaaaaaaah!)

An honest ranking of The Quarry characters after my first play though:
Jacob: 4/10 (already making enemies with this one)
Honestly Jacob I was really just not a fan of, even outside of the whole “intentionally stranding the group” thing. I did like him in the first few chapters when everyone else (cough cough Nick and Dylan) were just being exceedingly mean to him for like, no reason, and yeah Emma was also absolutely giving mixed signals. But also at the same time, you do not have to be smart to learn when something isn’t going anywhere and to just cut your losses. Emma literally ACTIVATELY made you jealous dude, just wrap it up and move on. Also after Chapter 6 he really just doesn’t do…anything. Maybe it’s cause I didn’t infect him or get the scene about the truth with him and Emma, but like I forgot he was even there when it came back to him in Chapter 10 (not really a critique of his character tho that’s more so to the balancing of the game) Anyway yeah lackluster to me but I can see why people like him I guess.
Nick: 2/10
Wow I did not care about you. Nick is a prime example of The Quarry’s issues with balancing its cast. Nick is literally meant to be a main character yet you spend less than like, half the game with him even around, much less playable. Even when he is around though he has almost no personality, more so bouncing off other character’s actions without much drive of his own. Also, I’m gonna say it: the romance with him and Abi was just NOT it. It starts off okay, in fact their scene together gathering firewood is probably his best one. But then when he gets infected and just becomes so…unreasonably sexual towards her?? Like yeah, the infection makes people act weird and aggressive towards people, but there wasn’t a single instance where it was like him, it was just so unnecessary. And speaking of his infection, THAT’S what killed his character the most. It just took him out of the game way before he has a chance to really establish himself as a character, and it just wasn’t that necessary considering we already had two guaranteed infections to happen.
Emma: 7/10
Oh boy this character sure is divided. I’m gonna take a stand and say that I actually like Emma. No I don’t like how she kissed Nick when Abi liked her, and I feel like she could’ve been a bit better at cutting things off completely with Jacob. But also at the same time, she really knew how to get through encounters with the werewolves which was pretty cool to watch, and I thought her overall attempts to be positive even towards the climax of the game were interesting, given how the rest of the cast was around that time. Plus it’s impressive how they made her be the YouTubed/vlogger WITHOUT it being annoying, that’s a real feat in itself. So yeah, kind of doing too much but also a girlboss at times, Idk what else to say. Actually I do, the scene where she tazes the werewolf then takes a picture was iconic, she gets a whole ass point for that alone.
Abigail: 8/10
Abi’s probably the first character here so far I genuinely like. She’s probably the least issue ridden of the cast, not doing anything stupid or annoying or unnecessarily cruel. She really just minded her business drawing and getting away from the dangers around her. That said her biggest problem is that she has really unbalanced game time, with a lot of scenes near the beginning and not doing very much in the later chapters. I think maybe one or two more sections where she’s playable in the second half of the game would’ve helped her character out a bit more. All in all a great character who just needed a bit more screen time to really shine.
Dylan: 6/10
Oh this is gonna be real controversial but I did NOT like Dylan at first. I get that his whole thing was that he was faking this confident showboating personality but that does not make it any less annoying. Like there was no reason to be tormenting Jacob like that in the beginning, just help him with the bags??? But that part of it at least waned out as the game went on and I can say that in the latter half of the game he had some genuinely funny moments. Him with the frying pan at the end and when he’s in the basement like “OMG Ryan it’s literally nothing” were probably the funniest parts of the game for me. But he’s also like, one of the biggest perpetrators of the stupid ass “is that a bear” bit going on throughout the game that just went on for WAY too long so I’ve got a problem there /hj. All in all an okay character to me at best, sorry.
Laura: 8/10
Okay after looking at other people’s takes on Laura, I definitely agree that she just took over the end of the game. It really just felt like they forgot the other characters other than Ryan and just shoved her back in. If they wanted to bring her back they could’ve done a way better job at balancing out the final chapters, maybe have another counselor come with her and Ryan to the Hackett home. That being said, I still think she was a girlboss. I really enjoyed her personality and how out of all the characters she had to fight the most for both her own and Max’s survival. Playing through as her and just blasting through the Hackett’s at the end was really satisfying and fun, even if another character probably should have filled the role instead. And this is probably a hot take, but I think her and Max have the strongest relationship in the game. I know it’s a little unfair since it’s the only established relationship in the playable characters, but even then without it having much screen time I still believe they have interest in each other more than most the rest of the cast. Overall, flawed in a technical and story formatting sense but I still love her.
Max: 8/10
Listen I know he didn’t have much screen time but I really loved Max. Even if he’s only in a few chapters overall he was honestly one of the most consistently funny characters to me. I can’t think of a single moment in the game where I felt like he was being dumb or annoying, it was genuinely good dialogue and sweet moments with Laura. I can’t wait to get the ending where they reunite on the island, it’s so funny when he ends up having to where Laura’s clothes and is just “you gotta be kidding me”. His biggest problem again is that he just has like, no screen time, only playable in one chapter briefly. But even with that he leaves more of an impression on me then some characters in multiple chapters. If he has just a couple more playable times he’d easily be a perfect score to me, but as is he’s still great and I’m glad we got to see him past the prologue.
Ryan: 10/10
Absolute the best of the guy characters. He’s like the only one in Chapter 1 that I didn’t find myself immediately annoying with, and he continued that streak throughout the game. Ryan is a perfect example of a horror character that thinks in an emotional way that completely makes sense. Even if they don’t explain it well, you completely understand why he doesn’t want Laura to kill Chris, and I wish it was more gut wrenching for him if you choose to actually make him do it. But he’s also a very logical character, able to react to situations in a way that I couldn’t foresee most of the other characters doing. The chase with Bobby is so intense and he’s an absolute badass for being able to do it with the knife still stuck in him. The fact that he can only live if Chris dies does suck a bit, but I can’t think of anything about him I particularly hate. He’s even pretty funny when he has joke moments. Honestly the closest to a perfect character in this game.
Kaitlyn: 9/10
Absolutely deserving of the Final Girl title. Kaitlyn is one of the best characters of survivability from the get go, able to lead and protect the others around her even when you’re not in control of her. She just always seems to know what to do in a situation, even ones outside of survival. But I also appreciate that they didn’t go boring with it and have her just unexplainably strong and did need help from the others every now and again; it makes her incredibly well rounded and shows that her ability to lead is able to rub off on others. The only problem is that for a character meant to be the Final Girl, she doesn’t have nearly enough screen time. It’s not as bad as other characters, but she really needed more times where you controlled her all throughout the game; you should at least start at her in the beginning since she’s meant to be like “the last one standing” in some scenarios. But that’s not a complaint to her character, she’s still a badass who’s able to pull off amazing things assuming you know how to play.
BONUS
Travis: 3/10
Okay I know he’s not a playable character but I’ve been controversial enough and I just need to talk about him; I did NOT like Travis. Like I get that he’s probably the best out of his family (which for me isn’t saying much cause I really didn’t like ANY of the Hacketts) but he still has his problems. Mainly the fact that he is just so cryptic for NO reason. Like I get you can’t just be like “yeah my family has werewolves in it” but like…once Max was infected and he’s keeping him and Laura in jail, like bro EXPLAIN TO THEM WHAT’S GOING ON. WHY ARE YOU WAITING TILL THE LAST CHAPTER TO TELL THEM WHAT HAPPENED. This is more a problem I have with the story overall tbh, he’s just the biggest perpetrator of it. It’s just a giant information bottleneck that has no reason for existing other than plot convenience. Basically just like…dude, EXPLAIN what is going on instead of being vague, holy shit.
Anyway yeah those are my takes on the cast. If you like or dislike any characters I don’t really care, it is just a game of fictional characters and I’m sure my interpretations of them is different than others. Just wanted to share my thoughts after playing
(P.S. kinda unrelated but if you’re a Laura x Travis person do NOT interact with this. Weirdos)

okay its been forever since ive really posted anything (big life things! mental health stuff! etc!) but i just finished watching rymans club and wow i just need to sit and talk a little about it.
uhm its like... not the usual sports anime i guess? i only watched it bc i just wanted something really short and easy to watch and i used to play badminton, plus ive had this on my watch list since it came out hahaha. also... ngl i have never seen it being talked about anywhere.
tbh i really enjoyed it! hahaha but as a sports anime, i guess its not that spectacular? i do think theres a lot about this show i really liked tho. most sports anime are about highschoolers, and sports is really all they have their eyes on. its their whole life and dreams. meanwhile id say that for rymans club, where all the characters in this show are older and mostly have office jobs along with being in a badminton team... and the main cast take pride in being both on the badminton team /and/ in their sales team (they also come up with a new popular drink for their company during the show haha).
i thought i could guess the main themes from the start bc well.. ive played badminton and sports anime can be a little predictable, like value of teamwork and getting over trauma from previous tournaments and stuff. but i wasnt really expecting anything like valuing the work you do outside of sports (being a "badryman" aka badminton + salaryman LOL), or doing something more suitable for you (one guy gave it his all and still lost a game, and he realizes that he would enjoy becoming the team coach instead), or family responsibilities vs personal goals (one guy is a dad! he says he doesnt regret quitting badminton like a decade ago after marrying his wife and taking care of his son, but he realizes hes allowed to pursue his goals as well with his family supporting him), or even taking care and not pushing yourself (one guy is not that young anymore and has an injured knee). obviously, winning these badminton games mean a lot to them all, but like... for maybe a third of the show, these guys were also just in suits and doing their sales job in their office, which i found really nice?
also im fond of souta hahaha... probably bc hes an older brother, and hes generally not that energetic and doesnt really put his all into badminton. at one point he was like "do i even like playing badminton..?" which was honestly relatable... ahh. i think in a typical sports anime, such characters will somehow find it in them to enjoy the sports they play and give it their all. but this guy only really tried harder when his partner (his younger brother) was running out of energy and souta thinks that he must do his best to support his brother and win the game together. his younger brother really looks up to him, but he himself doesnt feel that confident in his abilities.
it was also pretty cute that tatsuru inspired mikoto to play badminton when mikoto was just a little kid? and then mikoto inspiring another random kid as well. like!!! yeah!!! as adults, be kind to kids and inspire them!!!
(btw i just adore tatsuru, like hes just such a dude.. i love characters like him LOL)
it was just a short 12 episode show, so we didnt get that much into each character background, and each character arc was pretty fast, as well as the games they played too hahaha but thats understandable.
anyway i have things i have to do... ahh i should end this here. yeah... rymans club... i miss playing badminton hahaha

Starting up a Private Server : Attracting Players, Good, Profiting
Tumblr media
best private servers
Some of people maybe already private one or an array of private servers; several of you may yet end up starting out with your earliest private server, contemplating: "wow, how do I smart phone market servers that have already over 500 or over players? " In most cases, you don't. Here's a number of practical tips together with information you need to consider.
best private servers
Lots of mmorpg game enthusiasts The reason most staff have a high person base is that will because they have been all over for a couple of years, and their owners now spent (a lot) of money promoting the server choosing different methods.
When ever starting a private server, your main goal must be to entertain your gamer base, make them sense you are they are part of a community, not a valuable machine. A lot of people prefer to create a private server because they think ıt's going to make them money, effectively; it CAN make you revenue.
Starting a private server is much like starting a business online, I will take it at me to line one line coming from an e-book Concerning read, the set states "Knowing, Patient, Profiting", and these are typically exactly the steps you must take to start a good private server.
You have to KNOW what tools are crucial for starting your private server; applications can be money, electronic, knowledge, connections.
Most people genuinely need to Worry about your server; it indicates everything that comes with the application: players (community), scripts (setting up tailor made content), server (maintaining a lag-free environment). This is of course not necessarily everything, but these include probably the issues you can expect to mostly be fast paced with.
After you increase all knowledge that is definitely needed to set up a server, as well as featuring that you actually maintain the players plus the community by joining with play or sprinting awesome events, you may PROFIT from it just by asking for donations in trade for items and also services.
Knowing Figuring out also means that you know which kind of private server you want to run, this approach goes hand in hand along with caring for the content and additionally topic your server is started to get; if you do not care about Wow, do NOT start a Warcraft private server. You need to be tempted to achieve this because WoW is quite popular, but this means that there are a lot with other private computers trying to make money from this as well.
Another section of knowing is fishing into the documentation that offer the private machines, setting it up is not at all hard, you can set up your Ragnarok Online personal server within quarter-hour and have players visiting it. The main thing a person's server will need to quite possibly remotely compete with people is "content"; indeed, every game comes with its own content nonetheless why would competitors come to a server that has 0-10 people instead of one that provides 1000+ and has certain custom weapons? Specifically; they won't.
This means you must think of unique subject matter that players wish to see, you can possibly have someone generate the content for you for any price, or build-it-yourself. Depending on your funds this may vary. If you opt to let others construct content/scripts, it's always excellent to at least realize something about it to help you provide valuable knowledge.
You could ask around concerning various forums just what players really want to find out in a private server, and work with which, once it's polished off, you can then advertise ones server together with the statement that you have this 'elite' content they required.
Not only content is necessary, you will also need to know in addition to keep track of updates of the fact that emulator provides, so you're able to stay up to date within your server and have modern bug fixes along with content.
"Enthusiasm may be the first and most imperative ingredient to constructing a successful private server. "
Caring Just like I said prior to when, you will need to care about every part of your private server if you want to profit from the idea. This is exactly why you need to select a game you are at ease with; maybe you have played the game play yourself. You will need to get enthusiastic about it and you ought to have fun running that private server forever.
Look for enthusiasm, never money. Money is constantly nice, but it really should not be your main focus. In the event you enjoy running ones own server, players will relish walking and running about on it, and definately will genuinely feel that they've been a part of your area. This results in those players inviting your friends to engage in with them on your server (word of mouth) and will eventually provide increased traffic upon your server.
I will explore marketing your exclusive server in an long term article, we could discuss how you can get initial players firstly and keep these individuals coming.
"Enthusiasm breeds success and accomplishment will bring in revenue. "
Like We said before, you have to care about every aspect of one's private server if you'd like to profit from it. Because of this you need to pick a sport you are comfortable with; associated with played the game you. You will need to be serious about it and you should enjoy running the confidential server altogether.
To be patient is also a concept involving caring for your non-public server. Of course it is advisable to have 50 members running about relating to the server within the primary week, but should you not have attained standing through another form (friend/marketing/being famous), this really unlikely to happen.
Configuring a server is, maintaining a server is hard work. Your first time out, nobody realizes your server perhaps even exists, so definitely you will have zero to help non-e players. You must create awareness of that to attract game enthusiasts.
You need patience:
Because you gain your to begin with players As you acquire enough players to help you profit from it sufficiently to cover the every month hosting costs To get word of mouth to pass on between players so that they come play on the server To see the simplest way well your advert and awareness skills have worked out. For ones reputation to succeed everyone
"Simply put, you must have patience to achieve what you need to achieve. "
Capitalizing After your server has a vast site visitors base you can start getting donations. Maybe you have definitely done this whenever you started your server and received some dollars in the process. A lot more players you have a lot more profit you will earn from donations.
Concerning private servers, via shawls by hoda mostly go in conjunction in exchange for merchandise; the player pays some cash in exchange for the item or 'tokens', which can be used to buy items ingame. This really probably the most popular approach to profiting from a personal server.
When you are given great amounts of money, do not start to neglectfulness your server, do not forget- your income is dependent in the players, and when they will leave; so will your cash flow.
Re-invest your profits within the server:
Create a good 'realm' or 'world' Redesign the website as a result of making it easier to get Provide a 3 manner system for competitors to join (3 tips "register, download, play"). Advertise your server on toplist web sites such as mmotop100. world wide web Use Google AdWords to redirect people to your website
There are quite a few methods you can use to put your profits to achieve even more players.
"Remember: Players = Money = Players"
It's all I have to give at this moment, I will be able to write an article about how it is possible to improve awareness of a server, market the application and attract cutting edge players.

Tumblr media
Intro just started and yep looks like the one with blue hair is the main character. Neat shot of the city though.
Tumblr media
Interesting. Wonder who this guy is. This room looks more low-tech than the cyberpunk city we just saw, and the window seems boarded up. Some kind of rebel or criminal perhaps? Or maybe just someone who lives in a poorer part of the city?
Tumblr media
In contrast to the dour look on that last guy, these two look friendly. And have a pretty cool and high tech room. Friends?
Tumblr media
Oh, yup. Friends. Yay for friendship. I do recall from wikipedia that MC has amnesia so she’s probably in need of some friends to help her along.
Tumblr media
Oh wow she’s being sent into the game (unless its just a sylistic choice for the intro). Which again raises my nitpicky question of why they’re still using physical controllers. Then again, might be new tech, plus if it ain’t broke don’t fix it.
Tumblr media
Ohh. the redhead from earlier is here with a dude who looks like a corporate or government type. Hopefully the latter since I know this is about taking down a megacorp so if she’s hanging out with corporate agents in the intro that’s not a good sign.
Tumblr media
Flash through a bunch of scenes. Including some more characters which seem cool. Also a scence of the redhead grabbing the MC which was too quick for me to figure out if she’s helping or attacking her. MYSTERIES.

2022 Game of the Year List
I didn’t quite play as many games this year. Last year I completed 58. This year, a paltry 39. With more and more AAA games like Horizon Forbidden West and God of War: Ragnarok requiring 60+ hours of my time, its hard to squeeze in smaller experiences. I feel like it was also a bit of an off year in terms of games that really wowed me. As a person who is always fascinated with new IP, nothing in AAA satisfied there. There were some good indies, but even there nothing really blew me away. Plus, I gave up most of my prime gaming time on Sundays, my only day off, in favor of meeting people for a run/walk most weeks. Still I had a ton of fun along the way. Here are my ten favorite games, some honorable mentions, a dozen or so advertisements for Game Pass, and the ten games I look forward to most (some of which are coming to Game Pass). 1. Onde
Much like weird indie games in past years, I found this little game thanks to browsing Steam. It’s super weird and abstract. I really doesn’t even fit in any mold and I can’t really even begin to explain it. It’s kind of a platforming game, but kind of just an interactive art experience. You really just have to see it in action. My two and a half hour playthrough was wonderfully weird and beautiful, as well as tranquil and peaceful. It’s exactly the type of thing I crave: a game unlike any other I’ve ever played.
2. Tinykin
I played the Tinykin demo on Steam early in the year and it quickly found a spot in my most anticipated list. It’s indie Pikmin. That’s it! That’s really all you need to know. It doesn’t reinvent the wheel, but I had a blast exploring every nook and cranny of the world. And it was basically free thanks to Game Pass!
3. Tunic
I’m a huge fan of the original Legend of Zelda. I still think it is the best entry in the series. Tunic isn’t shy about showing how Zelda-like it tried to be. The cute looking but cruel world was a joy to explore and understand. But the standout part of it for me was the manual feature. Collecting pages to assemble the game’s manual, that felt like the type you’d get in the days of the NES, and slowly discovering where to go and what to do was brilliant. The way it revealed secrets was perfect. (Full disclosure: I did look up a few of the solutions to some of the more obtuse optional puzzles at then end of the game.) This one really stand out as something special, akin to games like The Witness and Fez. Plus, again, Game Pass!
4. Stray
I’d been following Stray for a long time. It perked my ears up back in May of 2018, when it was just a few gifs and known simply as “HK Project.” As a cat lover, it was one of my most anticipated games. The world was breathtaking. Some of the animations could have been better, but perfectly creating the subtleties of a cat’s locomotion and mannerisms isn’t easy, especially considering the project was tackled by a first time, small indie developer. Still, they captured the spirit of a cat very well and created an empathic character. And how can I complain when it was another virtually free game thanks to the new PlayStation Plus structure - even if the main reason I upgrade was just for the kitty. At the end, I kind of wanted more, but was also pleased with what we got.
5. God of War: Ragnarok
Despite the widespread praise of God of War (2018), it was a mixed bag for me at the time, mainly because it strayed from the series’ roots. It was good, but it didn’t really do anything overly special for me. In a lot of ways, Ragnarok was a step forward. The story was amazing! The characters were amazing, especially Odin! There were so many cool moments and reveals. But I still have mixed opinions about the state of Sony’s AAA games. I put 60 hours into Ragnarok. So I definitely got my money’s worth in terms of time spent with it. The optional missions and bosses were challenging, mostly enjoyable, and usually worth the extra time. But a lot of the game felt like a quest to simply unlock chests instead of progressing the story. At certain points, it felt like a slog where, I was just checking off boxes to hit 100% completion and get my platinum trophy. It’s insane that the 8-10 hour experience of the original typical gamer fantasy God of War on PS2 has turned into such a massive, well written experience. But it also sucks that it takes five years to realize that vision. There were things that happened in the game, and references to the first game that perplexed me, because I have only faint recognition of the moments from five years ago. When I look back at it I remember killing trolls, opening a bunch of chests, and Kratos saying “Boy” a lot. But the finer details like who we killed, and how the characters are related escaped me. So again, I see the game for its triumphs, but also for its issues as a product of modern game development. But I seem to be in the minority on this opinion. I’m not sure where the franchise goes from here. I’m hoping for Egyptian mythology as I’ve always preferred it to Norse mythology.
6. Moss: Book II
The original Moss was one second only to AstroBot Rescue Mission when it came to PS VR games. I loved how it succeeded at making a VR game that actually felt like a traditional game, and also how it made Quill feel so lifelike. I hadn’t witnessed that sense of empathy with a character ever before. I was so invested in her journey, and super excited when the sequel was announced. Sure it was more of the same, but it gave me a great reason to dust of my PS VR. The boss battles were the high points for me. I’m not sure what the future holds for the franchise. I don’t really know if I’ll want to buy PS VR2. But a Moss: Book III could coax me into it.
7. Nobody Saves the World
I love Drinkbox. The Guacamelee! series made me a massive fan of the studio. Nobody Saves the World is just what I would expect from them: a stylist game with a lot of quirky fun. The variety of characters was impressive. The macabre look was silly. And the constant sense of progression via objectives and upgrades had me hooked from the start to my finish, over 30 hours later. I don’t go for 1000/1000 of the achievements in games all too often. Here I did, I loved every little thing I had to do to get there. And, yeppers, Game Pass once again saved me money that I’d already expected to spend.
8. Horizon Forbidden West Horizon was my favorite new IP of the last generation. Guerrilla really built something impressive with the franchise. Yet the same cons from God of War: Ragnarok are present here: a lengthy development time, padding, and so much content that it kind of got in its own way. The new beasts were impressive, as were the new weapons. But overall the world and story didn’t fascinate me as much. I’d have liked much more about Ted Faro, and the story about the red blight, which seemed important pre-release, never really went anywhere. Still, I spent 97 hours exploring the Forbidden West - my most out of any game this year - and look forward to the DLC. 9. FAR: Changing Tides
I played FAR: Lone Sails a few years back. I went in not knowing much, and left with my jaw on the floor. It was such a beautiful, enjoyable experience. Much like many sequels, Changing Tides couldn’t quite match the magic of the original. The water sections were an interesting addition, but the game also had some rough edges. Still the ending of it was well worth the brief ride. Also, Game Pass!
10. Cuphead: The Delicious Last Course
Cuphead was my GOTY back in 2017. It’s probably one of my favorite games ever! So more Cuphead is fine by me. And that’s exactly what this was. More lovingly, painstakingly handcrafted quintessential Cuphead. There wasn’t a lot to it, but it’s quality over quantity. I really can’t wait to see what’s next for Studio MDHR! Honorable Mentions: High on Life - I’m not really a fan of the Rick and Morty style of comedy these days, so the juvenile comedy and it’s weird verbose cadence was hit or miss with me, often finding itself on the “miss” side. Just the volume and way the character often talk, which seems to be prevalent in many modern cartoons, annoys me. The game also has quite a few technical issues at release and horrendous load times on Xbox One. The gameplay and shooting mechanics aren’t super polished either, and don’t feel all that satisfying. But the talking weapons themselves were really cool! And the thing that made them even cooler was the voice cast, particularly the former SNLers JB Smoove and Tim Robinson. Their silly performances, in addition to Laura Silverman’s, kept me playing. And clocking in at just 12 hours for me, it didn’t overstay its welcome. Also, ugg, its Game Pass, its a game on Xbox Game Pass, on the Xbox game console, where you have a pass where you can play g-games, and you d-d-don’t even gotta, uhhh, you don’t have to pay for them, the games on the pass, cuz they’re on the Game Pass! (End annoying Rick and Morty impression) Shadow Warrior 3 - This series is just good fun, with a freedom of gameplay reminiscent of the modern Doom games. The art style is great, and the level design really just encourages you to play around. A lot of times these days, games are trying to be like movies, or be serious and realistic. But there’s something to be said about a cheesy game that knows its place and just prioritizes fun. And this one came to PlayStation Plus fairly quickly so it was another freebie. A Plague Tale: Requiem - Thanks to info from someone, I learned that I can play Xbox Series X games on my Xbox One via the cloud, which makes me feel like I’m living in the future. It’s absurd that Microsoft would allow me to mooch off new games with my old technology. I really don’t see any reason to upgrade my console. This series is really unique. Without spoiling things, it does some really cool things with the rat plague, and is another game that just has some (mostly) fun gameplay. There were a few frustrating stealth sections for me, as well as a few combat sections. And the pacing was a bit inconsistent. It started out slow, and got a bit long in the tooth towards the end. But it occupies that sweet spot between AAA and indie that we just don’t see that often anymore. And with Game Pass, it’s well worth a look on PC, Series X, or through the wizardry of Xbox One. Disc Room (2020) - It was always on my enormous list of games to play, but with so many good looking games, I just never got around to it since there were so many games that were higher on my list of things to try. But Game Pass to the rescue! I love a good arcade style game. And this was just that: a cool concept, with a decent challenge, and a nice sense of progression. Over the course of a few hours, it presented ideas, iterated on them a bit, and wish me a lovely farewell, requiring 49 less days to experience than Horizon did. I’m glad I finally got around to it, because it really surprised me. Deathloop (2021) - This game never really interested me. I really haven’t been a fan of any of the games coming out of Arkane. But when it came to PlayStation Plus, I had nothing to play at the time, so I gave it a try. I ended up spending 23 hours with it. I really enjoyed how they incorporated the time travel ideas. And the gameplay and abilities stayed fresh nearly the whole time, although the nebulous nature of figuring out how to assassinate a target or two, and the repetitive nature that came along with it, did bring about a bit of monotony. Somerville - Somerville was one of the oldest game I was following that was still in active development, probably since around 2015. It looked like it could be the next great atmospheric platformer, the next Inside. Sadly, it is not a good game. So why is it on this list? Because despite its plethora of problems and odd design choices - unrefined mechanics, clunky animations, poor environmental readability that led to confusion on where to go, envionmental geometry to get stuck on, ladders that you had to be perfectly aligned with to climb, freezes and technical issues, an overall jankiness, a poor execution of multiple endings as well as the “good “ ending, and just an overall nebulousness that undermines practically everything it tries to do - there’s a really intriguing, mysterious world there. I would have been disappointed had I spent money on it. But giving it a look on Game Pass could be worth your time if you can see past its flaws.
That’s it for this year. I’ve still got plenty of games that came out that I want to play, and I’ll start up Rainbow Billy and the Curse of the Leviathan (now on Game Pass) soon, but most of my anticipated ones were completed. Who knows what remaining 2022 games may turn up on future GOTY lists? Lost in Play looks cool, but has eluded me so far, OlliOlli World got good reviews, I totally missed the release of The Quarry. I’ll probably eventually get around to the Nintendo games like Splatoon 3 and Kirby, and maybe try the Tiny Tina game after getting a bit burned out with Borderlands. Most Anticipated Games:
1. Alan Wake 2 - The original is one of my favorite games. I’m so glad we’re finally getting this! 2. Pepper Grinder - I been following this one on twitter for a while. The developer went silent for a while, but has been back showing things off again. It looks so friggin cool! 3. SCHiM - definitely a Joey-style indie that looks unlike anything else 4. Hades II - Hades really surprised me and consumed a lot of my time. This probably will too. I just hope it does enough to warrant a sequel and doesn’t bring on the sophomore slump that I often feel with sequels. 5. Horizon Forbidden West - Burning Shores DLC - Its more Horizon so I’m going to play it. Do I expect anything revolutionary? No. Just more fun Horizon. 6. Cocoon - When this was announced, my fascination mainly relied on one simple fact: It’s Jeppe Carlsen’s next game - the brilliant mind who brought us 140 and worked on the Playdead games, Limbo and Inside. What Cocoon exactly is is still a bit of a mystery to me. But I can’t wait to see it unfurl its wings. 7. Judas - Who wouldn’t be excited about Ken Levine’s new game, which looks to be the spiritual successor to Bioshock. I can’t wait to see more on this one! 8. Viewfinder - This was a pleasant surprise during The Game Awards. A stylized first person puzzle game! That’s so in my wheelhouse!  9. The Plucky Squire - Here’s another game that blew me away with its trailer: some 2D, some 3D, a bunch of different gameplay concepts, all with a wonderful coat of paint. I think this could easily find its way near the top of next year’s GOTY list, much like Tinykin did this year. 10. Atomic Heart - I’ve been interested in this one for a while too, since even before Stray. It’s also got some cool Bioshock-y vibes, with a really interesting looking world. The only concern is the recent news that the development has been troubled and that trailers were basically just vertical slices. But it’s on Game Pass, so the risk of paying for it is eliminated.
