What if...there was a robot who fell so deeply in love that she reprogrammed herself to talk and to accept her lover’s touch instead of shocking him?

That viral post that's going around about how people who write "book quality" mlm fic are too "normal" to publish and have real jobs so only "weird" people publish their "shitty" fanfic is so completely out of touch with reality and I am giving a massive side eye to everyone reblogging it.
Not only is it completely, easily verifiably untrue (you cannot enter any professional writing space without tripping over a dozen grizzled scifi writers who got their start by filing off the serial numbers and publishing their Star Trek fanfic even going back decades ago??? it's a whole thing?? plus how can you look at the mlm category on Amazon right now and say with a straight face that people aren't publishing shitty Spirk and Stucky fanfic??? Oh, honey...) it's also the perfect example of this kind of sneering elitism that true artists would never sully themselves by seeking profit, they do it only for the purity of the thing that always somehow leads back to, "no one should be paid to make art, actually."
The only reason you're seeing more published fanfic right now has nothing to do with the idealistic purity of your hypothetical government employee written smut of the past vs the debased scribbles of those awful straights of today and everything to do with the fact that a) self-publishing has created a voracious readership that wants a ton of content so it's become a viable, flexible income stream for many, especially disabled people b) anyone can publish now with self-publishing tools so there are less gatekeepers and c) lockdown got a lot of people into fandom and therefore writing who never tried it before.
And if you really think there's no "shitty" published mlm and no "book-quality" m/f writing out there that started as fanfic, then you are clearly not a reader so why are you even talking about this?

Every time I have seen a post tagged "I know I'm kicking a hornet's nest with this one", it has turned out to be the most timid, milquetoast take I've ever seen and the notes are just full of people saying they agree. If you're going to kick a hornet's nest actually kick a hornet's nest, you cowards. Tell me Reylo is good actually or something at least.

I honestly think that Anakin would have adored his grandson, Ben Solo. He would have been excited to teach Ben the ways of the Force. While he wouldn’t admit it, it cheers him up that Ben admires him so much. Also whenever feels the Dark Side is trying to tempt him, Anakin could help Ben resist it because he knows the damage the Dark Side would do and he wouldn’t want Ben to make the same mistakes as him. Then when Ben gets older and starts to notice Rey, he goes to Anakin for romance advice and accuses him of lying when Anakin tells him he had his first kiss with Padmé after talking about how much he didn’t like sand.

Someone dared mention reylo in one of my obimaul posts. reylo is NOTHING compared to obimaul. Maul and Obi-Wan share half their lives. Obi-Wan is literally Maul's anchor, the one thing keeping him sane. The hope of meeting him again kept Maul going for fifteen years during the Empire era. He died in his nemesis's arms, and it brought him peace. He was HAPPY to die by his enemy's hand. Can your cheap comphet ship say the same? I think the fuck not. I'll fucking kill you. Get out of my house.

Lynchworthy Star Wars take no 2 of the day:
I don’t like the sequel trilogy personally but you know what? Kylo Ren’s storyline in tlj was good actually. Trying to use it to build a redemption arc cheapened both it and the characters involved
Like this guy is trying to be a bad guy right? He’s actively making all the wrong choices and deliberately plummeting down to make it worse for himself. And along comes this person who hates doesn’t like him. And they’re psychically connected by the make up of the universe
And at the start it’s really annoying that she’s connected to him. but then she tries to reach out a hand to him. She tries to help him climb up. And while she’s reaching down to pull him out he’s reaching up to try and pull her down. She’s trying so hard to help him get better and he decides that he wants power over love, greed over compassion.
He, like his grandfather before him, wants to try to have everything. And well that never works out, this is Star Wars. but he’s in the story so he doesn’t know that.
And the thing is this girl thinks it’s working, and like her teacher before her she ignores the advice of her mentor bc she thinks she knows better. And she’s wrong.
She gets there and he kills his master for power and asks her to join him. And she can’t. This isn’t what she wanted, she wanted to help him.
Where his grandfather chose power for love and let it corrupt him beyond recognition bc he wanted to have it all and then turned on his wife when she tried to stop him, Kylo Ren chooses power over love over and over and over again. He gets chance after chance and he always, deliberately, willingly chooses wrong.
And this makes Rey as a character stronger in turn. This teaches her that everyone makes a choice whether for good or for ill and that you cannot save someone who doesn’t want to be saved and wants to bring you down to them instead. but you might still die trying. Kylo Ren isn’t like Finn, he isn’t someone stuck in a bad situation with no choices that wants to do good. He wants power and he’ll do whatever he thinks he has to to get it. And now he wants her to be a part of that too.
And he fails at it. The more power he grabs for the more darkness he grasps, the more things slip through his fingers and leave him trembling in the dust of all that he’s wrought. He’s not sympathetic, he’s greedy and he’s trying to trick Rey into thinking his story is a tragedy of misunderstandings when it’s actually a wilful tragedy of choice. And that makes him a good character. Not a moral one. Not even necessarily a likeable one (ymmv). But an interesting one that has a lot to contribute to the story and the themes within.
Star Wars is about choices. Bad choices are choices too.

I’ve recently come back to tumblr after a long hiatus post TROS and pretty much half the people I was following for Reylo and Star Wars haven’t updated in like 2-4 years.
So if you like Star Wars or Reylo can you reblog/like this so I get more people to follow who are still in the fandom :)

I'll be real with you, until I see Adam Driver is attached to this project I sincerely dgaf, and we all know that's not going to happen
I don't blame him for writing off the whole idea post TROS, obviously, the cast of the Sequel Trilogy was PRISTINE across the board and I blame them for literally nothing, it is DLF that is the problem
It will be interesting to see how Star Wars fans react to this, and if anyone at all gives it the time of day. It will also be interesting to see if they give Rey a new love interest in these new movies, because I've got a feeling the internet will instantly set the whole thing on fire if they do
Lots of bad in the future, people. Lots of bad.
