Things are getting complicated on Mall Girl's latest single, 'Super Lazy Girl.'
A strangely buoyant ode to that most Gen Z of terms, ‘situationship’ (which just seems to be a more pseudo-intellectual way of saying ‘friends with benefits,’ making something that’s not all that meaningful in the first place seem more meaningful, but I digress...), the track combines hazy slacker rock with a beautiful math rock sensibility as vocalist Bethany Forsyth-Reichberg finds herself catching ~feelings in the process. Will she commit? Or will she procrastinate, like most of us are wont to do? (Probably the latter. It's just easier, isn't it? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯)
Says Forsyth-Reichberg (via The Line of Best Fit):
'Love: it’s really nice, and really scary. This song feels like a bridge between the sound of the young and the slightly older Mall Girl we are now. The song is in simple terms about (the oh-so-stupid & very-2023 term) 'situationships' - and in more complex terms about the fear of committing to something that feels real and more sustainable than hazy nights when you’ve lost your phone and possibly some of your integrity. So, when true love suddenly comes around, how do you know that you are ready for it? I don’t think you know, just have to jump into it and stop being a lazy girl.'
Mall Girl's upcoming second album, Pure Love, is out January 26 via Jansen Records.

This track is a taste of what’s to come on their second album, “Pure Love”, which is due out in January.
The art-pop experimentalists’ new track opens with a tingling guitar refrain featuring the heavenly vocals of Bethany Forseth-Reichberg before the song bursts into its vivacious indie-pop.
