DIFFERENT LIVES AU - SKY

CONQUERING THE SAD BY DOING FUN ART AND WRITING LETS GOOO

anyway AU number one, Rusty and Smudge restart Skyclan

So Smudge keeps having dreams, of a grey-white wisp of a cat begging him to find the Sky. He tells Rusty, who is startled that Smudge is having the same dream as him. They plot, and after recruiting Princess, follow the trail left by the mystery cat. They make it to the gorge tired and hungry, and Princess realizing she’s pregnant. Thankfully the local kittypets share their food, and tell them about the Sky Watcher. The trio meet Skywatcher, and after some more Ghost Shenanigans, start training and recruiting. Princess takes the role of medicine cat, and Rustyheart and Smudgespot gather more and more cats. Eventually the Ghost Cat reveals himself as Skystar, and speaks of how much he regrets his life. Not founding his clan, but all the hurt he inflicted on others. With his last energy, he calls down the spirits of ancient Skyclan, and names Skywatcher Skystar (to some confusion), begging him to be a kind and just leader.

Skystar the living names Leafdapple his deputy, and crosses a few rules off of the Code - his word CAN be questioned, and medicine cats CAN have families - just look at Princess and her kits!

After some time, Maplepool watches her cousin Cloudtail take a few warriors on a quest, to prepare the other clans for Skyclan to join them. She curls around her kit, while Squirrelflight grooms her kits Lionkit and Hollykit. Things are at peace, but Cloudtail will be missed.

More time passes, and the elderly Skystar II calls for the clan to migrate. Jaystep and his mate Hawkwing get separated from Skyclan, and Hawkwing gives birth to a pair of miracles. A young medicine cat named Alderpaw finds them, and brings them to Thunderclan. Cloudtail greets his second cousin, and soon sees his mother and uncles again.

The Dark Forest is still a threat. But the Sky carries Thunder and Wind, casts a great Shadow, and flows like a River. Skystar II brings down Tigerstar’s cloying ghost, and ascends to Starclan. Leafstar mourns him, but stands strong.

Year 6

Snowshadow and Misty both had their litters, but Oaksun is conused on why one kit doesnt look like any of them. Bluestar, Nighteyes, Berrystar, Twistedbriar, Moonpaw, Snailpaw, and Jay's eye have a ll been killed in a horrible rainstorm. Before he died, Bluestar told Oaksun that he wanted him to become the leader. Leafclaw decided to not argue about it, and Oaksun gained his 9 lives. Oakstar choose Leafclaw as the deputy. Dewfur gained his 9 lives as well. Bee decided to retire to the elder's den, and Hawk Song was chosen as the new deputy. Smokeclaw brought in a mysterious kit, and he won't say where he found it. She was named Lilackit. Hawk Song discovered a washed-up litter of kits by the two-leg nests and took them to Hollowclan. 3 of the kits died, but 2 survived. Firewhisker announced her pregnancy, along with Dappledbush and Leafclaw.

Maplepool, the former deputy of Hillclan

An ambitious and complicated she-cat, Maplepool was a well respected cat of the clans, her dedication and prowess recognized even outside of Hillclan.

Seeing her leader have lives taken by sickness, the stress of keeping her clan in line, and dwindling food made Maplepool become desperate to save her clan. When it became apparent that Whitestar was going to plot to start a war with the other clans she decided it was time for Hillclan to take a new leader.

Her original plan was to train Thornpaw so that the younger she-cat had all the knowledge and skill to take over the clan and then Maplepool would openly kill Whitestar so that the clan would turn on her. With this, Hillclan would be united under a new leader and Maplepool hoped that Thornpaw would quickly be named the new deputy.

When Rabbitwhisker turned up dead and Whitepaw missing Maplepool's entire plan had to change and she decided she would take advantage of the coming battle with Sunclan to have Whitestar killed by a Sunclan cat. Her plan is ultimately foiled by Sunpaw and Icepaw, her attempt to kill Whitestar brought to light.

She is exiled from the clans and vows that one day she will come back to earn her redemption.

Despite what the clans and Thornpaw believed, Maplepool genuinely loved Thornpaw and genuinely had Hillclan's best interests at heart.

Clan and Culture: ThunderClan

“Not a single cat alive could argue that we are not brave and strong. When I look at my Clanmates, my brothers, sisters, and siblings in-between - I feel pride, and hope! We are the rumble of an oncoming storm; we are the brilliant, powerful strike of lightning; we are the cold sting of rain pelting on those below us! We are ThunderClan, and we are forever unmatched by any other!” - Squirrelstar, rallying her warriors for battle

Nobody should be surprised that war is the first thing that comes to mind when thinking of ThunderClan. These forest cats are incredibly military in their nature, from following and enforcing the warrior code to a T to defending their borders with everything they have. ThunderClan are fiercely loyal to their high ranks, and to the memory of their ancestors; however, they’re the second least religious of all the Clans, rivalled only by ShadowClan. Ever since any cat can remember, there’s been a constant dispute with both RiverClan and ShadowClan about where the borders lie, and not a single ThunderClan leader has allowed them to be moved since the forcible exile of SkyClan. WindClan and ThunderClan seem to get along best between the four Clans, with very few skirmishes between them. 

ThunderClan cats are very uniform in their genetics. A good 90% are soft-furred, but thick-skinned and bulky. ThunderClan cats are known to be able to take several hits before going down, making them formidable foes. Tabbies and tortoiseshells are very common amongst ThunderClan cats, with very few light-furred or solid cats between them. They have a tendency to be a little more stocky than cats of other Clans. Most self-respecting ThunderClan warriors will have a good couple scars on their pelt, and will painstakingly groom their fur every day to make sure the scars can be seen, seeing them as a badge of honour.

Medicine cats are often shunned, forgotten, or disrespected - but I wonder, Fireheart, if we stopped for even a day, how fast would they come crying back to us with apologies on their tongue, weeping over a thorn lodged in a pawpad?” - Yellowfang, on the disrespect of medicine cats

Medicine cats are the only cats allowed to accessorise within ThunderClan. Most wear some kind of plant behind their ear - usually a common herb from the territory, such as goldenrod or tansy. Sometimes entire branches from bushes will be shaped and tied into fur tufts; like WindClan, ThunderClan also like to use feathers, though these are usually tied in with the herb or tangled into scruffs or tails. However, ThunderClan was the first to kick off a territory-wide tradition of “ceremonial flutes”; a medicine cat who has done something monumental and history-making (for example, Maplepool, who found the Moonpool in the Lake Territories) may receive a hollowed stick with herbs growing through the middle; these flutes are passed down through generations, though the other four Clans only started after Maplepool received hers. Many medicine cats who receive these will pick the flowers and wear them, and bring the flutes to events such as gatherings and half-moon meetings. The flutes may also be borrowed or used by medicine cats and warriors if they need to travel across territories, as a visible sign that they’re passing through or looking for help - a practise started by Hollysnow.

Nettlewhisker of Hillclan

The twin sister of Thornpaw, Nettlewhisker has a chip on her shoulder and it shows.

In Maplepool's attempts to groom Thornpaw into the perfect next deputy of Hillclan, she tricked Whitestar in several acts that resulted in Nettlewhisker being hoisted with responsibilities she wasn't ready for.

She hadn't even gotten half way through her training when she was named a warrior, forced to take on the duties of a warrior while secretly still being trained by her former mentor, Foxtail. All to soon she was given her first apprentice, Yarrowpaw, which was when she began to hear the whispers.

Thornpaw was practically perfect: humble, dedicated, it seemed she could do no wrong. Nettlewhisker began to crack, jumping into training Yarrowpaw and praying she can prove through him that her becoming a warrior was not a mistake.

She began resenting her sister because of this, taking jabs at Thornpaw whenever she could.

After Maplepool's treachery is revealed Nettlewhisker starts to calm down and realizes it wasn't her sister's fault. The two slowly begin mending their relationship after that as Nettlewhisker helps Thornpaw mend her broken heart and Thornpaw helps Nettlewhisker train Yarrowpaw.

She is initially mistrustful of the loners that Reedwing helps recruit for the battle with Sunclan, but develops a sort of relationship with Sandy/Cheetahpelt.
