There is a new exhibition called 'La Moda en la Casa de Alba/The Fashion in the House of Alba' at Palacio de Liria in Madrid from October 19th to March 31st. It covers two centuries of the family through their fashion with designs by Charles Frederick Worth, Louise Chéruit, Cristóbal Balenciaga, Flora Villareal, Manuel Pertegaz, and Enmanuel Húngaro. The exhibition includes dresses worn by Empress Eugénie of France, also the Countess of Montijo, and the wedding dresses of Cayetana Fitz-James Stuart, 18th Duchess of Alba, Eugenia Martínez de Irujo, 12th Duchess of Montoro, and Sofía Palazuelo Barroso, Duchess of Huéscar. You can find out more about visiting here.
There are no jewels on display due to security concerns and the cost of insuring them but I noticed in the background of one of the pictures is a portrait of the Duchess of Huéscar wearing the Alba Strawberry Leaf Coronet.
Tumblr media
It looks like it was part of the same photo session as the portrait that was found to be on display at Palacio de las Dueñas in Seville in January.

I need to see a better quality picture of Sofia wearing the tiara!
Strawberry leaf ducal-style coronets are very popular amongst Spanish nobility. The one is made of emeralds, diamonds, and pearls and was supposedly a gift from Empress Eugénie to her sister, María Francisca de Sales de Palafox Portocarrero y Kirkpatrick, 16th Duchess of Peñaranda de Duero, wife of the 15th Duke of Alba. Here it is worn by María del Rosario Falcó y Osorio, 21st Countess of Siruela, and María del Rosario de Silva y Gurtubay, 9th Marchioness of San Vicente del Barco, wives of the 16th and 17th Dukes respectively.
Tumblr media
Of course it was most famously worn by María del Rosario Cayetana Fitz-James Stuart y Silva, 18th Duchess of Alba, and most titled person in the world before she passed away in 2014.
Tumblr media
If anyone goes to the exhibition and is able to get better shot of the portrait, I would very much appreciate if you would send it to me.

María Francisca de Sales "Paca" de Palafox Portocarrero y Kirkpatrick, 16th Duchess of Peñaranda de Duero (29 January 1825 – 16 September 1860), also known as Paca de Alba, was a Spanish noblewoman and the sister of Eugénie de Montijo, Empress of the French. She was the 16th Duchess of Peñaranda de Duero in her own right and a Grandee of Spain, and she inherited many other titles from her father. She was also Duchess of Alba by virtue of her marriage to Jacobo Fitz-James Stuart, 15th Duke of Alba.

Hi ! I read that the last Alba family descends from the monarch James II of England and the French emperors. Tell me how, if it's not too much trouble. Thank you !!
Hi! For the French emperors, it’s kind of a stretch, since in fact, the Alba’s line descends fromMaría Francisca de Sales Portocarrero y Kirkpatrick, other known as Paca, older sister of Eugenie of Montijo, wife of Napoleon III. And Paca was married to Jacobo Fitz-James Stuart, 15th Duke of Alba, whose ancestor was James FitzJames, 1st Duke of Berwick (he was his great-great-great-great-great-grandfather), illegitimate son of James II of England.
Hope I helped you :)

Headcanon I.
Archduke Leopold and Archduchess Amalia of Austria, were born at dawn on December 26, 1989 in Liria Palace, Madrid. Elisabeth had planned to give birth in Vienna, but the twins ended up arriving much earlier than planned, while visiting her then-husband’s family in Spain. When the family returned to Austria, as well as later at the baptism, crowds lined the streets of the city celebrating.
He was named Leopold Joseph Maximilian Amschel Kajetan Kaspar Franz Stephan. Leopold, a common name in the House of Habsburg, shared by two Holy Roman Emperors. Joseph, after Elisabeth’s father. Amschel, after Mayer Amschel Rothschild, founder of Lilli’s mother’s family. Maximilian after her uncle, the Emperor. Kajetan and Kaspar after Cayetano Fitz-James Stuart, Duke of Alba and Gaspar Telléz-Girón, Duke of Osuna, the father and uncle of Jacobo, respectively. Franz, after multiple members of their families. Among others: François, Baron de Rothschild (Elisabeth’s grandfather); Franz of Lorraine; Franz I & Franz Joseph I of Austria; María Francisca de Sales Portocarrero, Duchess of Alba. Stephan, as Leopold was born on Stefanitag.
She was named Amalia Charlotte Sophie Anna Victoria Klementine Rosalie Cosima. Amalia, an oft-used name amongst the Habsburgs. Charlotte, after Elisabeth’s mother. Sophie, after Elisabeth’s aunt, the Empress, who died shortly before the twins’ birth. Anna after Ana Victoria Telléz-Girón, Dowager Duchess of Alba (Jacobo’s mother) and Hannah Rufus Isaacs, Duchess of Reading (Elisabeth’s cousin and close friend). Victoria, also after Jacobo’s mother. Klementine, meaning ‘mercy’, a middle name shared by Lilli and her two sisters. Rosalie, after Rosalía Ventimiglia, Duchess of Alba, one of Jacobo’s ancestresses, as well as a reference to the rose gardens at Schloss Schönbrunn. Marina, after Elisabeth’s grandmother Marina, Baroness de Rothschild (née Lady Marina Rufus Isaacs).
