The fact that Main-verse Ooo is as good and as kind as it is (relative to the other universes shown so far, at least, it's obviously not perfect) all because of the same character that starts off as the OG series' antagonist, the person we were made to see as the bad guy (albeit an often ineffectual one) for several seasons, is making me lose my mind.

Imagine finding out the guy you spent your childhood beating up and saving princesses from is in fact a driving catalyst behind you being able to exist, and not only exist but also live in a world that knows what kindness is. All because that man, the same man who you've witnessed do terrible things, once met a little girl and taught her how to be good.

Simon's story really shows us that even if you lose your way and forget how it is to be good yourself, the world keeps the memory for you. That act of love Simon showed Marcy by protecting her and seeing her as more than the monster she thought herself to be created ripples upon ripples, small at first but eventually enough to help give their wreckage of a world—a world that easily could have been forsaken, its goodness overlooked because of its inhospitable remains—a chance to grow into something beautiful. Because of those very same ripples Simon created, the people of Ooo grew up in a world where they know enough about kindness that they were able and willing to spare the 'bad guy' some, to see beyond the wreckage and allow him to grow too.

In saving Marceline, Simon helped to not only to save the world, but also himself.

Dear Betty,

Firstly I want to thank you, for everything. All your sacrifices, your wishes, your love and care. I wont let them go unnoticed any longer. I was a fool, blinded by my own blissful ignorance. You were my princess but i failed as your hero. This experience has opened up my eyes, made me realize things I should have seen sooner. Its silly really, I cared so much for you that I ended up hurting you. I am forever sorry for the pain i’ve caused. I wont let you down again, I don’t think you’ll let me.

I don't even go here anymore but I'm writing a shitty essay about the effect of polyamory on the media its in and how it's portrayed and I was talking about Marcy from Amphibia, and it got me thinking...

Does Marcy think she's inherently betraying Anne and Sasha by having feelings for them?

I was thinking about the prom poster from Olivia and Yunan, and the fact that it doesn't offer a chance to say no really mirrors how she brought them to Amphibia and then tried to explore other worlds with Andrias and bring them along, and how they were made because she didn't give them a choice or ask them first. Most notably, because she never thought they would say no.

However, the fact that the SJMS logo also morphs into a heart when Sasha and Anne combine into one and reject her is also another evidence of this love = betrayal idea. She loves the both of them, and because she loves the both of them, she does things that inherently betray them, but doesn't quite realize why they feel betrayed. At this point, unless I'm remembering wrong, Marcy doesn't have a strong grasp on why Anne and Sasha feel the way they do, and strongly associates her want for them to be together with them being angry with her. She doesn't realize that they're not mad about the fact that she cares about them and wants them to be together, they're mad about the fact that she took away their autonomy.

By loving them, by doing things that show that she loves them, she is betraying them. And therefore, her feelings for them are bad.

EDIT: OH. NOT TO MENTION. Maybe she feels that the only way that Anne and Sasha could possibly be with her in the way that she wants is IF she took away their autonomy. She feels like they'd never want her otherwise. Screaming and cryin

marcy gets grime! I think they’d get along well, marcy probably would wanna learn more about grime and his war adventures and grime would totally eat that up, I think they’d be a chaotic duo that definitely would blow something up on accident because they got too carried away

this leaves Anne with… oh man I wanna say olivia and yunan but I think for plot sake, it’d be handy if she has time with andrias. idk something about her being able to see andrias internal struggle with past friendships would be a fun way to tie up like. season 3 because I think we needed more tbh, I think she still should get time with Olivia and yunan though because yulivia beloved

But what does it mean to be able to say I’d rather not be sexual, than to be sexual in any context where I am being mistreated, where I have doubt, where my feelings are not- where I am triggered as an abuse survivor or what have you. I mean, I’m just posing, “what are our choices as we think about our journey to sexual freedom? What choices to do we have?”

[...] I often identify myself as queer past gay. And I came up with this with one of my white colleagues, lesbian colleagues, where we were saying all of our lives we’d experienced ourselves as “queer as not belonging,” as the essence of being queer.
