Cuneo, la città si riunisce per la festa della Liberazione dal Nazifascismo: lo storico Claudio Vercelli terrà l'orazione ufficiale.  A un anno di distanza dalla visita del presidente della Repubblica, Sergio Mattarella, la Città di Cuneo si prepara a celebrare la festa della Liberazione dal nazifascismo. Nei giorni che precedono il 25 aprile - e il giorno stesso - sono in programma svariati eventi, tra incontri, spettacoli, concerti, gite e mostre, per ricordare e condividere i valori della Resistenza nei luoghi della città medaglia d'oro. Valori come democrazia, libertà e uguaglianza che, tra il 1943 e il 1945, hanno animato migliaia di donne e di uomini che si sono schierati al fianco degli Alleati, preparando il terreno per la nascita della Costituzione e della Repubblica. Mercoledì 24 aprile, in serata, si svolgerà la tradizionale Fiaccolata della Libertà, con ritrovo alle ore 20.30 presso il Monumento alla Resistenza, dove il giornalista e storico contemporaneista Claudio Vercelli terrà l'orazione ufficiale. Sarà presente anche la sindaca di Cuneo, Patrizia Manassero, per il consueto saluto istituzionale. La conseguente fiaccolata sarà accompagnata dalla Banda Musicale "Duccio Galimberti" della Città di Cuneo. Il corteo, con partenza dalla "Montagnola" attraverserà corso Dante e corso Nizza, per giungere nella piazza intitolata a Galimberti, di fronte al balcone dal quale l'eroe nazionale della Resistenza tenne il celebre discorso il 26 luglio 1943 (al piano dei locali che oggi ospitano l'omonima Casa-Museo). Alle ore 21.30, in Piazza Virginio, dopo la lettura di testimonianze di Resistenza di ieri e di oggi, si svolgerà il concerto dei Mahout. La band, nata a Pinerolo, è composta da musicisti professionisti che militano o hanno militato in alcune delle formazioni più interessanti del panorama musicale italiano e internazionale (Africa Unite, Meg, Dave Hillyard and The Rocksteady7, Jr Thomas & The Volcanos, Niccolò Fabi, Architorti e Levante). Con loro sul palco ci sarà Bunna (al secolo Vitale Bonino), cantante e chitarrista, ma soprattutto fondatore – con Madaski (Francesco Maudullo) - dei mitici Africa Unite, la band che ha fatto la storia del reggae in Italia. Il giorno successivo, giovedì 25 aprile, a partire dalle ore 9.15 e per tutta la mattinata, si svolgeranno le cerimonie istituzionali di commemorazione dei caduti. Si inizierà dai Giardini Fresia con l'omaggio della Città di Cuneo al Monumento ai Caduti, per poi proseguire alle ore 9.30 con la deposizione corone al Monumento alla Resistenza alla presenza delle Autorità. In seguito, gli omaggi verranno effettuati presso la Caserma "Ignazio Vian" a S. Rocco Castagnaretta in prossimità del Cippo in memoria dello stesso Vian, alla tomba di Duccio Galimberti nel Santuario Madonna degli Angeli e al Cippo di Tetto Croce. Alle ore 10.30 la cerimonia proseguirà al Cimitero Urbano, dove presso il Mausoleo ai Partigiani avrà luogo una celebrazione religiosa, con omaggio e deposizione corone e lettura della poesia di Gino Giordanengo. Seguiranno omaggi e deposizione corone presso la tomba del sindaco Ettore Rosa, il Famedio e l'Ossario Militari Caduti. Si segnala che il giorno 25 sarà a disposizione una navetta gratuita per seguire la cerimonia istituzionale di commemorazione dei caduti. La giornata si chiuderà alle ore 21 al Teatro Toselli dove andrà in scena "Qualcuno troverà il mio nome - Narrazione sulla vita di Lidia Rolfi", spettacolo a cura della Compagnia "Duilio del Prete" con la collaborazione dell'Accademia Teatrale "G. A Nova Perspectiva Sobre a Lei Rouanet: Isenção dos Impostos Federais

A Lei Rouanet, um dos principais instrumentos de fomento à cultura no Brasil, tem sido objeto de intenso debate e análise. Recentemente, um entendimento favorável ao contribuinte no Conselho Administrativo de Recursos Fiscais (CARF) trouxe uma nova perspectiva sobre a tributação relacionada a esta lei. SAIL 2017 - PWA Worlds - Day 2 of Airwaves Noumea Dream Cup - 2017

24 novembre 2017 - Anse Vata Beach served up another intense dose of racing on day two of the 2017 Airwaves Noumea Dream Cup with the wind blowing 20-30 knots for almost the entire day, which allowed a further three eliminations to be completed in superb slalom conditions. At the close of play the same man and woman head up the event rankings as overnight - Matteo Iachino and Delphine Cousin Questel - and despite their best efforts they remain powerless to prevent Antoine Albeau and Sarah-Quita Offringa from claiming the 2017 Men's and Women's PWA Slalom World Championships with both Albeau and Offringa reducing the deficit to rise into second place in the event rankings, while solidifying their title credentials. Women'sAfter a slightly slow start yesterday the current world tour leader - Sarah-Quita Offringa - responded in the perfect fashion by bouncing back superbly and winning the first race of the day. However, it still wasn't all plain sailing as a slow start in Elimination three almost cost her dearly, but she did well to battle back into third place over the remainder of the course. In the very next race Offringa survived another scare after dropping her second gybe in the semifinals, but she managed to recover before going on to secure her second bullet of the day in Elimination Four - which reduces current event leader Delphine Cousin Questel's (Starboard / S2Maui) lead to just one point, while putting her firmly back in control of the title race as she now holds a comfortable 5.6 point advantage over Lilou Granier in fourth place - when she only requires a top three finish to secure the title. Delphine Cousin Questel still heads the top of the rankings at the close of play on day two after another excellent performance today which saw the former two-time world champion record two seconds and a first from the three races completed. Lena Erdil, who came into the event, second in the overall rankings, suffered a disappointing opening day after finishing seventh, but she rediscovered the sort of form we have come to expect from her in recent years by bouncing back with a second and two third places, which sees her rise four spots from the overnight rankings into third place - keeping her on course for the overall podium. Elsewhere, Lilou Granier, who came so close to winning the opening elimination yesterday suffered a disastrous start to the day as she was disqualified in the semifinals for a premature start. However, after that, the 17-year-old recovered well with two fourth places, which sees her sitting in fourth place at the close of play - four points ahead of Marion Mortefon (Fanatic / NorthSails) in fifth. Men'sThe event lead swung hands on a couple of occasions today in the men's division with reigning world champion Matteo Iachino continuing to go head-to-head with Antoine Albeau. In the opening race of the day, Iachino struck again to maintain his perfect start to the event, but then a sixth place in Elimination three combined with Albeau winning his first race of the week saw AA move to the top of the event rankings, while also assuming complete control of the title race. However, Iachino finishes the day with a 1.7 point advantage over Albeau at the top of the rankings with the discard coming in to play. In terms of the title race though Albeau is in command as he now holds a 16.5 point advantage over Arnon Dagan in eighth place and Albeau only needs to finish eighth or better in order to guarantee himself an incredible 24th world title. For Dagan, the first two races were a bit of a disaster, but he has since recovered superbly with a fourth place and a bullet to bring himself back into contention to maintain his hopes of finishing the season in the overall top 10. While the title race may look to be all but over the race for the remaining place on the prestigious overall podium is firmly on with the momentum swinging in Pierre Mortefon's favour. The Frenchman came into the event in fourth place, but if things were to finish as they currently stand, then Mortefon would overtake Ross Williams in the fight for third place. Mortefon currently occupies third place in the event rankings after discarding an 11th place from Elimination Two before recording two solid results - second and a fifth - while Williams, by his standards, had a bit of a day to forget. The Brit started the day with a decent fifth before suffering a quarterfinal exit in Elimination Three soon followed by missing the winners' final in Elimination Four, which leaves him in 9th place in the current event rankings. Williams hasn't finished lower than ninth all season and came into the final event of the year on the back of three consecutive podiums, so while you certainly wouldn't bet against him recovering from this small blip you also feel that he can't really afford anymore slip-ups with Mortefon applying the pressure. Elsewhere, Sebastian Kördel rises one place to fourth after another excellent day - apart from a small blemish in Elimination three. However, the German then hit back with his best result to date in a single race - second - and will look to continue to build over the remainder of the event. Marco Lang, who started the day in second place, falls three places to fifth, but that is not entirely his own fault. The Austrian finished 13th in the second race before responding in Elimination three with a terrific third and looked to b going well in Elimination four only for a snapped harness bar forcing him to withdraw from the semifinals, which was obviously hugely frustrating and disappointing for the Austrian. Cyril Moussilmani is one of the biggest movers of the day after a consistent set of performances - third, 10th and a seventh - sees the Frenchman rise eight places to sixth, while fellow countryman Pascal Toselli falls one place to seventh. The top 10 is currently completed by Malte Reuscher, who has been extremely consistent with two ninth places and a 12th and the German looked to be on course for another top 16 finish in Elimination three until Maciek Rutkowski gybed into him at the final mark - when both sailors were in the qualifying positions - resulting in Reuscher falling. The 27-year-old lodged an official protest against Rutkowski for dangerous sailing, but those appeals turned out to be in vain.  Elsewhere, the home crowd were delighted to see Basile Jacquin rubbing shoulders with the best of the world in the winners' final of Elimination four - where the New Caledonian eventually managed to clinch fourth.

Giovanni Drogo è un giovane e speranzoso tenente mandato in servizio presso un non meglio identificato distaccamento militare ai confini del mondo, la Fortezza Bastiani.

La Fortezza, un tempo scenario di grandi battaglie, è ora un avamposto abbandonato e pressoché dimenticato, ma che vincola a sé tutti i militari.

Quando Drogo vi giunge è convinto di trascorrervi solo qualche mese, per poi tornare alla vita normale.

Dopo poco però, la pacata e monotona vita alla Fortezza fa presa su Giovanni Drogo che, senza rendersene conto, trascorre in quel luogo remoto tutti gli anni della sua esistenza.

Per Drogo, così come per i commilitoni, la speranza di veder comparire un nemico all’orizzonte si trasforma a poco a poco quasi in un’ossessione metafisica, in cui si fondono il desiderio di eroismo e la necessità dell’uomo di dare un senso alla propria esistenza.

Mentre trascorrono i decenni Drogo rimane fatalmente incatenato a questa condizione tra speranza e disillusione; quando, per una breve licenza, potrà rientrare nel mondo reale, percepirà tutto il senso di irreparabile distacco rispetto agli amici di un tempo e alla fidanzata.

Una mostra emblematica: Remo Salvadori e Marco Bagnoli

Particolarmente difficile entrare nel mondo complesso di un collega, visto il dono dei paraocchi da parte di quel tiranno che è la propria ricerca, e tengo sempre presente l’aforisma di Karl Kraus che, parlando degli artisti, dichiara che sono come i vulcani: il Vesuvio non sa e a lui non interessa sapere quanto erutti l’Etna: i due fanno a chi erutta di più. Tutto sommato a me non importa sapere quanto erutti Remo Salvadori piuttosto che Marco Bagnoli, ma attirato dal fatto che tra gli artisti che ci sono in giro i due non sono certo gli ultimi, sono finito nello spazio di Christian Stein a Milano e Pero.  Ho già detto che Il mondo dell’arte mi annoia per il novanta per cento delle volte in cui incappo nelle opere dei colleghi (ne ho specificato a chiare lettere le ragioni in un post precedente e non intendo ripetermi: vedi www.federicodeleonardis.tumblr.com/ Archive, oct. 13. 17), ma nel caso di questi artisti non è mai stato così: vuoi per il livello di pensiero (non mi si  fraintenda: niente di letterario, ma nel senso ben detto una volta per tutte da Arold Rosemberg), vuoi per la varietà della ricerca (esito a usare questa parola per il loro lavoro), vuoi per la padronanza tecnica dei mezzi impiegati e infine per l’interesse dimostrato da ambedue per lo spazio che ospita le loro opere, la mia curiosità nei loro confronti in qualche modo è stata sempre soddisfatta .

Ma così rischio di prendere una strada già percorsa da critici ben più informati di me sul lavoro di questi artisti e quindi di dire banalità o ripetere. Se parlo delle mostre di costoro, contravvenendo per una volta al divieto che mi sono posto di non interessarmi mai a quelle in spazi privati, lo faccio non solo perché il panorama è estremamente povero e perché esposizioni in galleria di così grande disponibilità se ne vedono poche in giro (in particolare oggi in cui tutto viene monopolizzato dagli spazi effimeri e impropri delle Fiere d’arte), ma soprattutto perché sono emblematiche di una situazione di stallo, potrei dire inevitabile. Si vedrà perché, intanto devo premettere che non ho intenzione di descrivere un bel niente: la mostra va vista e ognuno tragga le proprie conclusioni. Io esprimerò le mie, che non vogliono affatto essere un’introduzione ai loro lavori, ma una presa di posizione poetica.

Faccio riferimento a quanto già detto nell’apertura del post precedente, alludendo alla necessità di fare un passo indietro, e sarò brusco e sintetico. Inquadro  il mio intervento anticipando la sensazione conclusiva avuta dalle visite ai due spazi menzionati. Eccola: mi sono trovato in pieno Settecento. Intendiamoci subito, non nel Settecento Volgare in voga nella stragrande maggioranza delle gallerie di successo oggi ma, tenuto conto dell’influenza esercitata dal Minimalismo, soprattutto su Salvadori, pur tuttavia sempre in un ambiente dominato da un’élite di censo non disposta a nessuna apertura verso  il basso, esattamente come nel Settecento. Quanto segue dimostrerà che Il mio non è un giudizio politico o ideologico, ma semplicemente estetico.

Intanto per inquadrare la questione mi viene in mente un libro che circolava quarant’anni fa fra i sessantottini: si chiamava “Sullo sporco” ed era stato scritto dal fratello del famoso Hans Magnus Enzensberger.  Sarà stato il clima dell’epoca, ma era un prodotto veramente nuovo, letterariamente intendo. Non mi risulta però che abbia avuto un seguito: per intenderci, di sporco non ce n’è proprio più in giro da nessuna parte, ma neanche a Pero o nello spazio della galleria di Milano. Ci deve necessariamente essere? Non lo sostengo affatto, anche se penso che qualsiasi opera degna di questo nome debba vivere anche se “sporcata” (faccio sempre l’esempio della Natività di Piero alla National Gallery, di cui buona metà è stata mangiata dal tempo, ma rimane splendida). La domanda se le opere di B e di S lo sosterrebbero però me la sono fatta: gli specchi concavi di Bagnoli, la fibra di vetro alle pareti e perfino i suoi pallet, così come il rame o il piombo o l’oro ecc di Salvadori sono pulitissimi, immacolati; e questo può essere significativo.  A pensarci bene però la questione è un’altra. Visto che le opere prima di approdare ai musei, (quando va bene) spesso passano nelle case di privati, anche la dimensione delle installazioni fa riferimento a una clientela (che brutta parola!) particolarmente agiata e preparata e non solo per il livello della possibilità economica, soprattutto per la disponibilità ad attrezzare spazi esclusivi (esclusivi nel senso che escludono la presenza di qualsiasi altro oggetto, a volte anche della luce naturale - nel caso di B.). Ma se uso il termine Settecento non è certo per un riferimento al Roccoc�� e neanche al grande Settecento di un Vanvitelli o di uno Juvarra, quanto piuttosto a una posizione mentale nei confronti del lavoro d’arte, alla sua destinazione, oggi meglio il grande Museo o la Villa (alla Panza di Biumo) che la casa privata, sia pure di proprietà di un Berlusconi (i Berlusconi sono tanti oggi, nel clima opulento, e ignorante, del  capitalismo diffuso). Non è un difetto, intendiamoci, quello di pensare le cose in grande e nemmeno quello di pensarle destinate a quei pochi che se lo possono permettere, il difetto se mai  è quello di pensarle esclusivamente per loro. E questo è il punto, almeno uno dei punti e non l’ultimo. Sono convinto che un certo perfezionismo e una certa raffinatezza, rese possibili dall’ampiezza e pulizia degli spazi a disposizione di per sé convincenti, perderebbero molto del loro fascino in spazi ridotti e poco scenografici. Per essere giusti e più chiari in proposito, sempre a riguardo dei lavori esposti, la piccola scultura d’acqua nel cortile della sede di Pero parla della sensibilità dell’artista (S.), ma senza bisogno di tutta la scenografia offerta dagli spazi interni.

Qui però si apre una questione importante di cui tutti discorsi precedenti non sono che un’introduzione. Dopo il Minimalismo americano il linguaggio visivo, e in particolare la scultura, si è orientato ad operare su una serie di parole elementari, un vocabolario che ha una strettissima connessione con la geometria euclidea (perfino Burri ne è stato influenzato:  si pensi ai lavori esposti a Città di Castello negli Essicatoi del tabacco). Geometria più  spaziale per Bagnoli e più piana per Salvadori; in altre parole quest’ultimo pittoricizza la scultura (si pensi per esempio  al cavalletto fotografico) e ricorre all’ambiente solo come sfondo, mentre l’altro, con operazioni spiazzanti sul piano spaziale, la spettacolarizza. Ma quello che mi domando e vi domando e soprattutto domando ai due autori: é questo l’unico registro praticabile? A giudicare dal ricorso alla filosofia Steineriana da parte di S e al simbolismo esplicito nelle sue immagini, molto evidente nella scelta dei titoli e degli oggetti, e al ricorso al discorso letterario in alcune opere di Bagnoli (specie la seggiola squilibrata nella galleria di Milano), sembra di no. Ma vediamo meglio: dove è finito il Tempo, la quarta dimensione ormai essenziale introdotta da Fontana con il ricorso (elementare) al vuoto, da Gordon Matta e Boltanski e perfino da un concettuale puro come Agnetti (si pensi per esempio all’evento scolpito da costui più di trentacinque anni fa per la galleria Toselli)? Con un salto mortale e l’uso di una parola un po’ azzardata ma significativa, dove è finito il movimento barocco di Borromini? E poi è lecito tornare al letterario col ricorrere al simbolico, quando l’arte visiva si è arricchita, per fortuna ormai definitivamente, della quarta dimensione?

Sono conscio dei pericoli in cui si incorre con una presa di posizione così fondamentale: ideologismo, sociologia e addirittura politica, tutte strade non ignorate per es. da uno come Beuys, col suo resuscitare lo sciamanesimo; ma senza alcun compromesso, proprio per non aver mai avuto bisogno di ricorrere ad altro che alla specificità del linguaggio visivo – e allo sporco, aggiungo io. Ma questo è un discorso più ampio, discorso che allude al bisogno odierno di religiosità, di qualcosa che esuli dalla dimensione univoca e appiattita dell’economia, del Moloch, di quella che Murphy definiva la Geenna mercantile (Beckett, 1920!)

Ecco sono arrivato al dunque della mia perplessità, preciso mia, senza voler sostenere che debba essere condivisa da altri: “io mi son un che quando” … erutta, ha bisogno di sporco, di una relativa imprecisione, di casualità e in un certo senso dell’ eco della violenza che impera nel mondo. E di vuoto, soprattutto di vuoto;  di quell’assenza  e marginalità che non mi sembra di rilevare in nessuna delle opere dei due artisti menzionati. E’ come se il loro lavoro si esaurisca in un ritorno al vocabolario elementare della scultura, luce e volume, complesso quanto si vuole (soprattutto in Bagnoli), ma sempre e solo “valori plastici”. Intendiamoci, dopo l’operazione a mio avviso disastrosa della Transavanguardia, ci voleva un chiarimento preciso e tutti e due questi autori lo forniscono ed è un bene che lo abbiano fatto, ma perché fermarsi a questo?

Potrei concludere così, ma un’ultima parola va spesa per  Remo Salvadori: chiarezza. Intanto bisogna riconoscere che la sensibilità per le specifiche potenzialità espressive della materia come risulta dall’impiego più comune, che sia rame, piombo, alluminio, acciaio, colore puro oppure come è data in natura, per es. l’acqua, è proprio una delle caratteristiche fondamentali del lavoro di quest’artista e il modo come lui la tratta, con semplicità e si può dire umiltà, non è banale, ma appunto chiaro. Per entrare più nel merito, si prenda per es. uno dei lavori più complessi esposti a Pero, Continuo infinito presente : gli anelli di fune d’acciaio a diverse sezioni e concentrici. Si tratta di uno strumento usato nelle cave in tutti quei casi in cui occorre allungare la trazione di una fune ed esiste un sistema molto semplice, ma di fattura complessa, per nascondere la giuntura necessaria ai due capi: quello di realizzare la congiunzione, tra l’altro senza alcuna saldatura, nella treccia più piccola. Una pratica che tutti i costruttori di funi conoscono e naturalmente adottano nei casi in cui venga loro richiesto questo anello (un po’ sfibrato, arrugginito e  … sporco, appunto, ne trovai uno anni fa in una cava abbandonata di Portoro). Cosa fa Salvadori? Lo espone in tutta la sua potenzialità espressiva sul pavimento della galleria in cerchi concentrici a dimensione ridotta verso il centro: si tratta di geometria pura, geometria piana, elementare, quasi astratta. La meraviglia per questa scoperta euclidea, più che per l’ingegnosità con cui il cerchio viene realizzato, va oltre la banalità con cui ha operato il Minimalismo americano, concettualizza senza negarla la sua idea e la chiarifica in modo perfetto. Che poi l’artista tenti anche di spiritualizzarla con un titolo che richiama il mistero del numero (si ricordi che il cerchio ha una valenza simbolica, in quanto nega il numero nell’incommensurabilità fra la circonferenza e il raggio  - l’infinito del titolo) e quindi di volgere la barra del timone a una forma di religiosità, o per lo meno di rispetto per il mistero del mondo, è la spia secondo me di una debolezza: infatti, basta il concetto di tempo insito nella parola infinito per dare alla quarta dimensione la sua importanza oggi per l’arte (l’immagine slabbrata, arrugginita e sporca che raccolsi a Portovenere lo conteneva visivamente a colpo d’occhio, senza ricorrere al letterario)?

Ma bisogna andare oltre. Nel panorama generale altamente confuso, addirittura caotico, in cui le mostre sono piene di tutto e del contrario di tutto, in un mondo, quello dell’arte visiva, fortemente compromesso con il denaro, il suo lavoro ha un pregio, quello raro definito dalla parola che ho impiegato. Proprio di fronte alla chiarezza di una presa di posizione netta in favore della perfezione esecutiva, all’uso esclusivo dei mezzi elementari a disposizione dell’artista visivo, il colore e la materia, senza nessun compromesso con i passatismi che hanno imperato e fatto fermare l’arte per un paio di decenni (parlo della ormai per fortuna tramontata Transavanguardia), con una concessione allo spettacolarismo in voga nella società attuale solo sul piano dimensionale e ripetitivo, il lavoro di quest’artista mi sembra emblematico. Mi piacerebbe poter aggiungere, anche nella rinuncia a servirsi di ideologie, ma non è così: il suo ricorso alla teosofia lo considero un’altra espressione del bisogno religioso di cui parlavo prima, ma è meramente apposto e tutt’affatto inutile, come una stampella al proprio fare. Qui sono invadente, me ne rendo perfettamente conto, ma secondo me bisognerebbe che ciascuno di noi prendesse finalmente coscienza dell’autonomia e autosufficienza formale del linguaggio elettivo, senza alcuna necessità di ricorrere al linguaggio letterario, filosofico, politico o sociale.  Comunque è bene che, pur con i limiti che mi sono sforzato di illustrare, un opera di questo tipo sia messa in evidenza, perché è solo con la chiarezza che è possibile fare i conti.

E procedere oltre. Non dimenticando Gordon e Beuys.

PWA Slalom World Tour 2017

After a one year absence the PWA Slalom World Tour returns to the beautiful island of New Caledonia for the season finale where the Men’s and Women’s world titles will be decided between the 21st-26th November.

After a long and hard fought season it all comes down to the next six days and with a promising looking forecast there should be plenty of epic racing!

Noumea, New Caledonia, is part of the French Polynesia, located deep in the southwest Pacific Ocean – 750 miles east of Australia. New Caledonia boats the biggest lagoon in the world and has been listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2008, making New Caledonia a magnet for recreational boaters and ocean lovers alike, and provides the perfect, yet challenging, slalom conditions thanks to its trade winds, which usually blow anywhere between 10 and 30 knots. The lagoon spans an impressive 44,000km — with crystal clear waters dotted with islets, which has seen Noumea becoming renowned for its outstanding marine biodiversity. Anse Vata beach will provide the perfect, pristine, stage for the conclusion of the 2017 PWA World Tour. With the wind frequently blowing all day this is as much a test of stamina as it is of top speed and the world’s fastest sailors will have to be on their toes throughout as the chop will be eagerly waiting to catch any unsuspecting sailors rail. Who’s going to come out on top?

Women’s Title Race Connotations

There are now only two women left standing in the race for the 2017 PWA Women’s Slalom World Championship – Sarah-Quita Offringa (Starboard / NeilPryde / Maui Ultra Fins) and Delphine Cousin Questel (Starboard / S2Maui) – and the odds are heavily stacked in the Aruban’s favour with Offringa guaranteed the world title in the event that less than four races are completed – no matter her result.

However, if four or more races are completed then that brings Cousin Questel back into the fray as with the new progressive points system, in which events with four or more races are awarded greater points, the French girl could still overtake Offringa, but in order to do just that Cousin Questel would need to win the event – just as she did in 2015 – but crucially Offringa would need to finish outside the top three, which seems highly unlikely given the fact that you have to go all the way back to 2010 to find the last time Offringa finished outside of the podium positions at a slalom event.

Away from the title race it looks like there will be a pulsating battle for the remaining place on the heralded podium with Lena Erdil (Starboard / Point-7 / AL360) – who will be looking to bounce back from a disappointing fourth place in Denmark, Maëlle Guilbaud (Patrik / Loft Sails), Delphine Cousin Questel and Marion Mortefon (Fanatic / NorthSails) all vying for a place in the overall top three.

Men’s Title Race Connotations

As things stand three men can still mathematically win the 2017 Men’s PWA Slalom World Championship – Antoine Albeau (RRD / NeilPryde) – who holds a commanding lead as he goes in search of a 24th world title – Matteo Iachino (Starboard / Point-7 / Shamal Sunglasses) – who is looking to defend his world title and Ross Williams (Tabou / GA Sails / Mystic / Shamal Sunglasses) – who is looking to win his first slalom world crown.

On paper it looks like it’s Albeau’s title to lose as an eighth place finish or better will guarantee him the 2017 PWA Men’s Slalom World Championship. However, as the recent event in Sylt, Germany, showed anything can happen with both Albeau and Iachino both finishing outside the top nine, so Albeau will not be taking anything for granted. However, you’d have to think the more races that are completed will also reduce the chance of AA finishing outside of the top eight.

If Albeau was to finish ninth then that would open the door for Iachino to come in and snatch the world title from AA’s hands, but in order to do so the Italian would have to win the event. Two year’s ago Iachino came into New Caledonia under a very different set of circumstances – leading the world tour looking to win his first slalom world title, which ended disappointingly with a 10th place finish. However, a lot has changed since then and this time the current champ does not have much to lose, while having almost everything to gain and he’ll be keen to put the memories from 2015 here behind him by applying as much pressure as possible on Albeau from the word go. A fifth place finish or better would guarantee Iachino a place on the overall podium even if Pierre Mortefon (Fanatic / NorthSails / Chopper Fins) – currently fourth – was to win the event.

Outside Shot

Ross Williams has an even slimmer shot at the title as the Brit would need to win the event, while requiring Albeau to finish 10th or worse and Iachino third or worse. In this scenario Williams would win the title by 10 points. While not out of the question for Williams to win it seems more likely that we will see an excellent battle for the remaining places on the prestigious podium with just 10 points between the Brit and Iachino, while Pierre Mortefon, who won the event here in 2015 in emphatic fashion could still force his way onto the podium and if he replicates his performance from two years ago there’s a very real possibility of him doing just that.

Meanwhile, the French contingent of Julien Quentel (Patrik / Avanti) – fifth – Pascal Toselli (99NoveNove / LoftSails / Chopper Fins) – sixth – and Antoine Questel (Starboard / S2Maui) – seventh – will be hoping to end the season on a high.

Marco Lang (Fanatic / NorthSails) will come into the final event of the year still on a high from winning his first ever event on the world tour in Sylt and the Austrian could well be a serious threat again as he looks to break into the overall top 10 at the season end for the first time in his career – currently eighth.

Behind him you have the likes of Israel’s Arnon Dagan (RRD / NeilPryde), Dutchman Jordy Vonk (Fanatic / NorthSails), Argentina’s Gonzalo Costa Hoevel (Starboard / Severne / Chopper Fins) who are vying for the overall top 10, while Croatia’s Enrico Marotti (RRD / NeilPryde) will be looking to build upon his first top 10 result in Sylt.

Former teammates Cedric Bordes (Tabou / GA Sails) and Ben van der Steen have had a mixed bag of results this season and both will be looking to sign off on a high and as the winner of the 2014 edition van der Steen could go well here again.

Elsewhere, New Caledonia’s home grown youthful talent of Basile Jacquin (Starboard / Point-7) – currently ranked 26th – will be just one of the many locals hoping to make their mark on home waters.

Ross Williams has an even slimmer shot at the title as the Brit would need to win the event, while requiring Albeau to finish 10th or worse and Iachino third or worse. In this scenario Williams would win the title by 10 points. While not out of the question for Williams to win it seems more likely that we will see an excellent battle for the remaining places on the prestigious podium with just 10 points between the Brit and Iachino, while Pierre Mortefon, who won the event here in 2015 in emphatic fashion could still force his way onto the podium and if he replicates his performance from two years ago there’s a very real possibility of him doing just that.

Meanwhile, the French contingent of Julien Quentel (Patrik / Avanti) – fifth – Pascal Toselli (99NoveNove / LoftSails / Chopper Fins) – sixth – and Antoine Questel (Starboard / S2Maui) – seventh – will be hoping to end the season on a high.

Marco Lang (Fanatic / NorthSails) will come into the final event of the year still on a high from winning his first ever event on the world tour in Sylt and the Austrian could well be a serious threat again as he looks to break into the overall top 10 at the season end for the first time in his career – currently eighth.

Behind him you have the likes of Israel’s Arnon Dagan (RRD / NeilPryde), Dutchman Jordy Vonk (Fanatic / NorthSails), Argentina’s Gonzalo Costa Hoevel (Starboard / Severne / Chopper Fins) who are vying for the overall top 10, while Croatia’s Enrico Marotti (RRD / NeilPryde) will be looking to build upon his first top 10 result in Sylt.

Former teammates Cedric Bordes (Tabou / GA Sails) and Ben van der Steen have had a mixed bag of results this season and both will be looking to sign off on a high and as the winner of the 2014 edition van der Steen could go well here again.

Elsewhere, New Caledonia’s home grown youthful talent of Basile Jacquin (Starboard / Point-7) – currently ranked 26th – will be just one of the many locals hoping to make their mark on home waters.

Foiling

If at any time the wind is too light for slalom then there are currently 31 men registered for the next foil exhibition – where will see if Antoine Albeau and Antoine Questel can bounce back to the top following Sylt and whether Julien Quentel can follow up from his success in Germany or perhaps we will see a new name at the top again.

Ganar para seguir soñando

Bajo Flores, Capital Federal.-  San Lorenzo recibe desde las 21 horas a la Universidad Católica de Chile con la obligación de ganar para seguir con vida en la Copa Libertadores. El árbitro del encuentro será el uruguayo Daniel Fedorczuk. El entrenador azulgrana se encuentra en la cuerda floja y en caso de no obtener la victoria, podría dar un paso al costado.

 El Ciclón necesita los tres puntos ante el combinado chileno para mantener latentes sus chances de pasar a los octavos de final de la Copa Libertadores. El conjunto azulgrana tendrá la baja de Ezequiel Cerutti quien no llegó a recuperarse de su desprendimiento cicatrizal y quedó fuera de la lista de concentrados para este encuentro. Mientras que por el lado de Fernando Belluschi y Paulo Díaz se recuperaron a tiempo de sus respectivas dolencias y cuentan con altas chances de ser de la partida. Además, si bien no es oficial aún, el entrenador uruguayo pondría en el arco a Nicolás Navarro en lugar de Sebastián Torrico, un histórico del club que viene de apáticas actuaciones y ante Temperley fue responsable del gol con una muy floja respuesta.

En cuanto a los concentrados, el entrenador Diego Aguirre dejó afuera a otros dos históricos como Fabricio Coloccini y Leandro Romagnoli, ambos por cuestiones futbolísticas, e incluyó a Alberto “Tino” Costa (quien aún no tuvo minutos en este 2017) y al juvenil Cristian Barrios, el cual no debutó en la Primera División.

Por el lado de los cruzados, llegan entonados a este encuentro ya que vencieron como local por 5 a 2 a O´Higgins. Para dicho encuentro, el entrenador Mario Salas preservó a varios de sus titulares pensando en el partido de este martes, como los casos de los argentinos Ricardo Noir y Diego Buonanotte quienes fueron al banco de relevos. Luego de la victoria de su conjunto, Mario Salas declaró: “Ahora nos ponemos a pensar en San Lorenzo. Vamos a hacer todo lo posible para ir a ganar el partido en Argentina, como lo hemos hecho siempre (…) Católica no puede quedarse con lo que hizo este viernes”, cerró el DT de los cruzados.
