hi!! idk if u do AUs or anything of that sort, but if u do could u do a marcy wu x fem!reader where both marcy and reader are princesses (from different kingdoms) but they fall for each other? if u dont do aus just ignore this hsjrvsh
Alright! And I do aus!
☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆
☁️Princess!Marcy x Princess!Reader☁️
Characters:
Marcy Wu: She/Her (we love Marcy- she's a princess of New topia in this au!)
Reader: She/Her (She's the princess of a large section of land that is mostly full of frogs and newts- probably really intimidating)
Anne Boonchuy: She/Her (princess girly pop- love her lol- princess of WartWood)
Sasha Waybright: She/Her (bad ass girl, princess of the Frog army lol-)
☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆
Ah, new day new celebration in Newtopia! Marcy got out of bed, but she's more excited because today she had a meeting with all the neighboring kingdoms! She even heard about a young princess her age! She decided to act and look her best today!
*tiny time skip*
She was was now done with the meeting, very tiring how she put it! there was her friends she knew from other kingdoms! Anne, Sasha and a few others! But their was Y/N!
Y/N was very nice and maybe even pretty but she knew that she had more important things to attend to anyway! But Y/N kept plaguing her mind and even inviting her to her kingdom ever since that meeting!
Marcy didn't expect this at all but she was pleased! Anne and Sasha praise but also teased her about it, having a crush on another princess >:]
But it was true, the more she stuck around with you the more she felt deeper and in love with you! This usually formed 3 weeks into your friendship but unfortunately rumors are getting around that it was true that the princess of Newtopia had a crush on the princess of [INSERT KINGDOM AME HERE]! Some supported, others not, it just put tension onto it-
But she stay strong and still continued to erase the suspicion! She figured it would drive you away from her and maybe even start rivalry between the kingdoms! Anne and Sasha try convincing her that you wouldn't be like that! And besides Y/N wasn't dumb and ask her about her feelings. NUMEROUS TIMES, But Marcy would switch to another topic or just tell her that you're all just 'friends'
You didn't believe it so you basically just force the truth out of her and she ended up confessing it after peer pressure, you thanked her and accepted her feelings, you also liked her when you meet at the Kingdom meeting, you also apologize for peer pressuring her :')
And now, your kingdoms I'm going to be United at last and you all will live "happily ever after"..... Nah jk y'all go kick ass and chew bubble gum and you're all out of gum-

Possession Chats (Part 1)
Disclaimer: I have not been to group therapy before, so this is based off of limited internet research. If there is anything that I need to change or is incorrect, don't hesitate to tell me. It was really just a concept for my AU that I thought would be fun because I realized that nearly half of the characters have been possessed before.
Jazz: Hello everyone, sorry to pull you out of your classes, I’m Jazz Fenton. I’m here to guide your support group session today.
Hunter: What am I doing here with a bunch of… All of you?
Jazz: This is a safe space for anyone that has had experience with forms of possession.
Danny: Wait when did I-
Jazz: Freakshow?
Danny: Right, right.
Dipper: Um, I don’t really want to-
Marcy: HI! Sorry I’m late! Oh, did I interrupt something?
Jazz: It’s alright. I’m Jazz and this is the support group for students who have experienced possession.
Marcy: Oh. Actually, uhh, I’m extremely busy right now so I’ll just leave the way I came in…
Jazz: Marcy, is it? Everyone here is thinking the same things you are, I’m sure. We’re going to ease in to talking about those things and start with getting to know each other.
Hunter: If I go first, can I leave?
Jazz: No, but thanks for volunteering! Today we’re just going to share our name, a bit about our family, and one fun fact about ourselves. I’ll go first, then Hunter, and we’ll go around the circle from there.
Hunter: Yay. Sounds great.
Jazz: Glad to hear it! Well, my name is Jazz Fenton, I have a mom and a dad that hunt ghosts and a brother who is half ghost. And fun fact, I like to exercise! Hunter?
Hunter: My name is Hunter. I have an adoptive dad and a found sister and mother, and I was resurrected from the bones of my creator’s dead brother. That work?
Jazz: Wow. Thank you for sharing, Hunter. Now, Dipper?
Dipper: Right. I’m Dipper. Well, Mason, but everyone calls me Dipper. I have a twin sister, a mom and a dad, and two great-uncles, and I made a pig learn how to talk once?
Jazz: Interesting! Thank you, Dipper. Next we have… right, Marcy!
Marcy: Hey everyone, I’m Marcy Wu. I have a mom and a dad. And… do I have to just pick one thing?
Jazz: Not necessarily but just to-
Marcy: Okay okay fine. Ooh! I rode on the back of a bird while toppling a corrupt empire!
Jazz: And I thought my brother was a handful! Well, Danny, take it away.
Danny: I got you. Right, my name’s Danny Phantom, or Fenton, whichever you prefer really. I have a mom, dad, and older sister. Both of my parents hunt ghosts and my sister protects me from them sometimes.
Jazz: Aww.
Danny: Protects me from my parents, if you didn’t get that.
Jazz: Yeah, I know. Finally, we have… what’s your name?
Hilda: Hilda.
Jazz: Yes, Hilda! Sorry. Want to share a bit about yourself?
Hilda: Sure. My name is Hilda, I live with my mum, and one of my best friends is a human witch.
Jazz: Ooh, nice! Thank you all for sharing. From now on, no one has to talk if they don’t want to, but we will all respect whoever is talking.
Hunter: Yup, all great and good, can I go now?
Jazz: What’s the big rush? We still have another fifteen minutes together.
Hunter: The flyer derby team practice is in five minutes and I need time to change before.
Jazz: Alright, you can leave.
*Hunter pumps his fist and starts walking towards the door*
Jazz: After!
*Hunter turns around*
Jazz: You give us your best… hmm… Wolf impression!
Hunter: What? Are you serious? I don’t even know what those are!
Jazz: You do. Don’t worry, this is a judgement free space. Your best wolf howl, go!
Hunter: Ugh, fine. Ah-woo. Happy?
Jazz: We’ll work on it. Have fun at practice!
*Hunter mumbles as he walks out and shuts the door behind him*
Hilda: So you said this was for people who have “experience with possession”, is there anyone here that has possessed someone else or..?
Danny: I have!
Jazz: Danny! Everyone is here because it has happened to them, not because they did it to someone else. Unless we need to, we’re not going to mention if we can possess others or not.
Danny: Oh, my bad. I was possessed once, I robbed a bank and held my family and friends hostage on a train, if that counts.
Jazz: It does, and thank you for sharing, Danny. Since you’re taking, do you have any ways you deal with any trauma you have left from that experience?
Danny: No? Honestly, I kinda saved the world and called it even.
Jazz: Ahh, hiding behind jokes and sarcasm. Anyone else?
Dipper: Uh, I avoid triangles, large eyes, and American dollar bills at all costs?
Jazz: And how well does that work for you?
Dipper: It doesn’t, really.
Marcy: I’m fine as long as I don’t think about my childhood best friends. Ever.
Jazz: Ouch, see? We’re here to learn from each other and find healthy ways of coping so we can-
*End of class bell screams, making half of them jump*
Jazz: Alright, I’ll see you all here next week!

Sasha Waybright, Marcy Wu, and Amphibia’s Greatest Storytelling Flaw
Well, here it is folks. The essay that’s been a long, long time coming.
Anyone who’s even remotely familiar with me knows that I’m a big Amphibia fan. I’ve been writing fanfiction for nearly two years, and have been making regular posts online about the show in general since the end of season two, from predictions to character analyses to memes. I’ve followed the show from the very beginning, drawn in by the colorful world of Amphibia itself and its charming cast of characters, particularly main character Anne Boonchuy and her adoptive family the Plantars. With a mix of hilarious jokes, an engaging plot and fantastic chemistry between the main cast, Amphibia proved itself to be a very good show.
But I can’t call it a great show. Amphibia has many strengths, but also its fair share of weaknesses. And today I’m here to talk about the biggest flaw that, in my mind, really dragged the show down and kept Amphibia from reaching its full potential. I’m talking of course, about how they treated the characters of Anne’s BFFs Sasha Waybright and Marcy Wu.
Before I get into the meat of the essay, my usual disclaimer: the opinions you’re about to read are mine and mine alone. You’re free to agree with all, some, or even none of them. Entertainment is subjective by its very nature, and everyone has the right to their own opinion on whatever media they choose to consume. I’m just here to give my opinion, not to attack anyone that thinks differently or to convince them that they’re wrong.
Having said that, let’s finally dive into the reasons why Sasha and Marcy being sidelined by the narrative has negatively affected the story as a whole. Spoilers below the cut since I’ll be talking about events throughout pretty much the entire series, especially season three.
But first, seasons one and two. Marcy and Sasha were practically non-existent in season one, the former only being briefly mentioned once or twice while the later appeared in just three episodes and served as an antagonist to Anne in the season one finale by allying with the oppressive toads opposing the frogs of Wartwood and trying to force Anne into submission when she stood up for her friends and found family.
But even though they weren’t present physically, Sasha and Marcy still cast a shadow over season one via the influence they had on Anne before the events of the show. As early as the second episode we see how Sasha and Marcy warped Anne’s view of friendship with her talking about how you do whatever your friends ask of you, even if you don’t like it, lest they stop being your friend. The biggest part of Anne’s arc in season one is her growing out of this mindset, with Sprig showing her what real friendship can be like. In this sense it works for Sasha and Marcy to be virtually non-existent in season one as the show’s main focus is on Anne and her character growth, and even then the other girls are still present in the form of Anne’s background.
Then we have season two, where the story of the girls’ friendship gets a bit more complex with the introduction of Marcy. In sharp contrast to Sasha, Marcy is shown to be delightful and friendly, if a bit scatterbrained. It’s only until A Day at the Aquarium where things take a dark turn after Anne leaves Newtopia with the Plantars and King Andrias offers Marcy a strange deal. This little detail lurks in the background of the rest of the season until True Colors finally revealed the truth: not only was Marcy directly responsible for getting the girls sent to Amphibia to avoid moving and losing her friends, but she also helped Andrias get ahold of the fully-charged Calamity Box under the pretense that the girls would get to use it to go on adventures through other worlds and never have to be apart. These revelations nearly destroyed Marcy’s friendship with Anne and Sasha, leaving her emotionally broken, and finally resulting in her nearly dying when Andrias ran her through with his sword trying to stop her from using the box to help Anne escape.
Although Sasha continued to have minimal screen time, she had her own important arc in the background with planning a rebellion with the Toads. During this time she also learned of Anne and Marcy not only reuniting, but working directly against her. Tying into her behavior in season one where she reacted negatively to Anne’s growing independence, Sasha doubled-down on this attitude and became determined to reestablish control over her friends. All of this came to a head in the first half of True Colors, where Sasha’s betrayal not only nearly destroys her friendship with Anne, but erodes the girls’ trust in her to the point where they help Newtopia defeat the rebellion and ignore Sasha’s warnings that Andrias is planning something awful with the Calamity Box.
Sasha and Marcy worked very well in season two. Not only was Marcy’s entire character and background some brilliant storytelling, but both she and Sasha continue to serve as foils to Anne’s continued character growth. Throughout season two Anne continued to grow as a person, becoming not only more independent but more responsible and compassionate as well. She accepts that she’s changing for the better. Sasha and Marcy however continue to cling to the past in a desperate attempt to stop things from changing: Sasha not wanting to lose her absolute control over her friends, while Marcy didn’t want to lose her friends at all. Both girls have shown that they do care deeply about Anne, but their personal flaws leave them hostile to the concept of change, and True Colors served as a wakeup call for just how destructive their attitudes can be.
Which leads us to season three, where everything came crashing to a halt.
I’ve talked about this many times before, so to basically sum up my main problem with the first half of season three: it feels like the narrative itself forgot about Sasha and Marcy. Each of them got a focus episode to advance their own personal stories - Sasha becoming a rebellion leader in Wartwood, while Marcy is possessed by Andrias’s master The Core - but aside from these, the rest of the episodes all take place on Earth with Anne and the Plantars. And they’re only mentioned a handful of times.
First off, it’s bad writing from a meta sense that literally no one on Earth seems to care that Sasha and Marcy are still missing. Basic logic dictates that if three teenage girls vanish without a trace and one comes back months later with no sign of the other two, it would draw attention. But not one single person ever questions Anne about this, even though her fellow schoolmates refer to her as “the girl who went missing.” With how much emphasis is placed on how Anne’s absence affected her parents and the local community, it’s just jarring that not one single person would comment on the other two teenage girls who are still missing.
Then there’s Anne herself, who seems to just completely forget about her best friends still trapped in Amphibia, one of whom was stabbed through the chest right in front of her. Of the stabbing she says once that Marcy “has to be okay,” and once expresses a desire to rescue her friends and mend her friendship with them. All of this happens in the first episode; for the rest of the Earth arc, Anne gives zero indication that she’s thinking about her friends in any capacity, despite the fact that one could be dead and the other could be in serious trouble, being trapped with the mad king who almost killed the first. And that’s not even getting into the serious repercussions that Sasha and Marcy’s betrayals would have on their friendship.
Yes, it is made clear in her dialogue at the start of The New Normal that Anne still wants to fix things with Sasha and Marcy. We’re told upfront that despite everything that happened Anne still wants to fix things with them and have a better friendship with them, serving as a culmination of Anne’s personal character growth over the first two seasons. But this is then undermined by us not being shown any evidence that Anne is thinking about Sasha and Marcy.
To understand why this is so frustrating, let’s go back to earlier in season two in After the Rain. This was the episode where Hop Pop’s burial of the Calamity Box and lying to Anne about it comes back to bite him when the box goes missing and the truth is revealed. Anne was horribly hurt by Hop Pop’s betrayal, and even though she accepted his apology at the end of the episode, Anne didn’t forgive Hop Pop right away. She developed trust issues with him as seen in The First Temple, issues that she and Hop Pop had to work through. Things between Anne and Hop Pop were awkward for a while, a natural consequence of Hop Pop’s actions with the Calamity Box.
Now go back to True Colors and season three. In the season two finale Anne was betrayed a whopping three times: first by Sasha who used her to stage the Toad Rebellion; then by Andrias who revealed himself to be a world-conquering despot; and finally by Marcy with the revelation that she got them all sent to Amphibia in the first place and lied about wanting to get them home. This caused Anne to develop trust issues that she had to work through in season three: as seen in Fight at the Museum when Anne would rather risk stealing an artifact that might be related to Amphibia rather than asking Dr. Jan for help, or throughout the first quarter of the season when she couldn’t bring herself to tell her own parents the truth about everything that happened in Amphibia.
The point I’m getting at is that when Anne has been hurt before throughout the show’s run, we’re given clear evidence of how the betrayals affect Anne’s behavior. Yet throughout almost all of season 3A we’re given no evidence that Sasha and Marcy’s betrayals affected her - which should have had the biggest impact on Anne as they were her closest friends and Anne thought things were finally improving between the three of them.
Some have suggested Anne is merely repressing her emotions about Sasha and Marcy but again - we see zero evidence of that. Aside from a mistrust of older authority figures - which is more of a reflection of Andrias’s betrayal - Anne just acts like her usual bubbly peppy self. For crying out loud, after a few minutes have passed in-universe after Marcy was stabbed through the chest right in front of her, and Anne is raving over having wifi again.
What’s worse is the show didn’t have to turn into a complete angst-fest. This didn’t have to be some kind of Steven Universe Future deal where Anne slowly has a complete breakdown over the course of several episodes. But at the same time the show had so many opportunities to show Anne was thinking about her friends, in that she could have reacted to the numerous signs of Sasha and Marcy’s existences.
For example she could have looked forlornly at their initials carved into her bedpost, or stare at Sasha’s graffiti tags before turning and walking away. Or in Fixing Frobo when Polly angrily accuses Anne, Sprig and Hop Pop of “not caring that her best friend was dead,” that was a perfect opportunity to give Anne a haunted expression as a background detail while Sprig and Hop Pop continue the conversation. Little tiny moments like that could have easily been inserted into existing episodes without disrupting the flow of the stories.
Speaking of the episodes, there’s another issue with season 3A that circles back into the larger problem of the narrative ignoring Sasha and Marcy: almost all episodes take place on Earth, focusing on Anne and the Plantars.
Now don’t get me wrong, the Plantars are good characters and integral parts of the story. Sprig showed Anne was true friendship was like, as opposed to the dysfunctional mess she had with Sasha and Marcy, while the Plantars as a whole taught her valuable lessons about honesty and integrity. But we already had two full seasons of Anne and the Plantars, where we also had plenty of time to get to know the Plantars themselves.
With how True Colors so brilliantly showed Sasha and Marcy the consequences of their toxic mindset, season three should have been their season. A season for them to finally recognize their flaws, work on atoning for their mistakes, and work on mending their friendship with Anne and each other. And we do see that… for one episode for each girl.
Turning Point shows Sasha is shown to be remorseful of how she treated Anne and becomes leader of Wartwood resistance, which then proceeds to mostly take place off-screen. Meanwhile in Olivia and Yunan, during her rescue Marcy acknowledges how bad it was that she got all the girls sent to Amphibia and wants to make things right with them, only to have her get possessed by the Core. (Which led to its own problems, but more on that later.)
After two seasons of building up Sasha and Marcy in the background, weaving them into the cast in season two and having their plans to keep things from changing blow up in their faces in True Colors, season three was the perfect chance to really focus on Sasha and Marcy’s growth and development. Instead we only get two episodes with them, with all the rest being about wacky adventures on Earth that are basically a rehash of season one but with Anne and the Plantar’s roles reversed.
Now we did sort of get the development in 3B, but before that there’s one last major issue to talk about with 3A: the lack of Sasha and Marcy’s families. In Froggy Little Christmas we finally get Anne acknowledging her friends by writing letters to their families, ensuring them that their daughters are alive and that Anne will get them home. Where does the story go with these letters?
Absolutely nowhere.
Literally nothing comes of this, as it’s only one more episode before Anne and the Plantars finally get back to Amphibia, and the other girls’ parents don’t show up at all. Going back to what I said earlier, it’s downright baffling that the show would explore how Anne being missing affected her parents, while completely ignoring the parents of the other two missing girls. Furthermore, seeing the parents could have given further insight into Sasha’s and Marcy’s characters. Rather that seeing two separate letters to indicate Sasha’s parents are divorced as a way to explain how Sasha developed her controlling personality, it would have been far more effective to actually see Sasha’s parents in person and how they react to their daughter missing.
This goes double for Marcy’s parents, as it was their decision to move that kicked off the plot in the first place. From their perspective they drove their daughter to run away, so did they feel guilty about that? It’s implied that they eventually moved anyways, but why? Did they think their beloved daughter was gone for good and blame themselves for driving her away before moving because staying in LA was just too painful? Or were they horrible people who didn’t care about Marcy and eventually moved because a job was more important than their missing daughter? Any information on them at all could have given us a whole new perspective on Marcy’s personality and why she did the things she did to hold on so tightly to her friends. Alas, we can only wonder.
Now eventually the show does make its way back to Amphibia, and credit where credit is due, the story finally picks up again. There’s even a trust subplot between Anne and Sasha where Sasha acknowledges what she did was wrong and wants to be better while Anne wants to trust Sasha but has trouble doing so. There are some bumps in the road, but ultimately Anne and Sasha are able to work through their issues because their friendship is worth it. It’s essentially an awkward transition period in their relationship.
The problem here is that while all of that is going on, Marcy is completely sidelined due to her possession, with Darcy being an endgame threat for Anne and Sasha to overcome in the finale. The girls do eventually talk about Marcy’s betrayal in The Beginning of the End. Sasha is hesitant to forgive Marcy for everything she did, despite still wanting to be friends. Anne doesn’t deny Sasha’s feelings of being hurt, as Anne was hurt too. But she acknowledges that they weren’t the best friends to her even before Amphibia, and that while forgiving someone can be hard, it’s worth it when you really care about them. (She says while glancing at Hop Pop, in a brilliant bit of visual storytelling.)
Marcy meanwhile is finally seen again, in the penultimate episode All In. There she has a brief subplot of finding herself in a seemingly perfect mental world, complete with versions of Anne and Sasha who will be friends with Marcy forever. But she quickly realizes this world is just an illusion, that her companions are only hollow copies of her real friends. When cast into a void by an angry Core, all Marcy can do is say how sorry she is for everything she did, and hopes that Anne and Sasha can forgive her. Which they do, thankfully, in a heartwarming scene after Darcy is defeated and Marcy is freed.
All of this was very well-done… but at the same time, it feels kind of hollow. Marcy didn’t get the same awkward transition period in her friendship with Anne and Sasha as Anne and Sasha got with each other. Yes both girls acknowledge that what Marcy did was wrong but want to forgive her and be friends again, something that Marcy acknowledges herself. But to have them all have these moments separately instead of as a group just feels incomplete. With how much emphasis the show has placed on the girl’s friendship as a whole, it seems jarring how Anne and Sasha would have to work on mending their friendship while Marcy was forgiven instantly upon her rescue.
Now this could have worked if it had been used as a metaphor for the girls’ pre-Amphibia friendships. Anne and Sasha had an unhealthy follower/leader dynamic while Anne and Marcy got along much better, therefore she had to work to trust Sasha again while forgiving Marcy came easier. But there’s one little thing missing that makes this feel incomplete as well: we barely know anything about Sasha and Marcy’s relationship.
At no point are they ever together on screen without Anne, who naturally takes most of the focus in regards to their friendship as a whole. Without Anne around, what is Sasha and Marcy’s dynamic like? We get virtually no context aside from Earth flashbacks indicating that Sasha was somewhat dismissive of Marcy. And since we have no clue how close they actually were with each other (compared to Anne’s separate relationships with Sasha and Marcy, which the audience is very familiar with), it gives less emotional weight to Sasha’s overwhelmed joy and relief when she and Anne finally rescue Marcy.
To cap off the full-series overlook on Sasha and Marcy, I will say I really enjoyed the ending. Seeing the girls finally unlock their true Calamity forms and the massive battle that followed was incredible. And I especially loved the time-skip epilogue, showing the girls in a very realistic light: they naturally drifted apart as they grew up, what with Marcy moving and Anne and Sasha’s complicated past. But they’re still friends that keep in touch, with Marcy even flying out to visit Anne and Sasha on occasion. It’s beautifully done and the best ending for the trio, while still leaving plenty open to interpretation for the fans to imagine where the story goes next. Some might argue that it seems odd that Anne and Sasha would still drift apart after everything they went through in Amphibia, or how Marcy’s parents still made her move after everything that happened. (Again, almost no clue as to what they’re like.) But the fact remains that all three girls still care for each other, are still involved in each other’s lives and now have a stronger, truer friendship.
Amphibia as a whole is a really good cartoon, but its treatment of Sasha and Marcy is the biggest flaw that holds it back from being great. Not only are the girls interesting characters themselves, but both are deeply integral to the story. They were used well in the first two seasons and the finale, but the way almost all of season three ignored or underutilized Sasha and Marcy really drags the narrative down and makes the story feel incomplete.
Just to be clear, all of this was my own opinion. It’s up to the individual reading this how much they agree or disagree with. I for one would love to hear the community’s thoughts on how Amphibia handled Sasha and Marcy. Feel free to reply to this post, or just send me an ask with your thoughts and questions.
Until next time, peace from the heart my friends.

Therapy Confessions
https://archiveofourown.org/works/40427490#main
Marcy's visit was probably one of the best weeks of the past 10 years. Anne showed her and Sasha sound her new job (and may or may not have made them both cry a little at showing them her amphibians named after some old friends). They went out to lunch every day; Sasha told them about some interesting new client she was getting from the same town in Connecticut where Marcy now lived of all places; Marcy showed them some unreleased chapters of her webcomic; all felt right with the world.
And then Marcy had to leave.
Anne wasn’t too worried about seeing her off this time. Nothing could compare to the first time anyway. So, she, Marcy, and Sasha went their separate ways again; however, something just didn’t feel right. Anne couldn’t exactly tell what it was, but whatever it was caused her to sigh every time she looked at her newt Yunan or her toad Grime. But, being the ever optimist, she just assumed seeing her old friends and being reminded of her old life shook her up a bit.
She pushed down the unease in her stomach and decided not to worry about it too much.
~~~
Sasha was trying. Frog, was she trying. This paperwork in front of her had been starring her down for almost 30 minutes and yet was still just as blank as it ever had been. Sasha just didn’t care enough to process the words in front of her. How could she? Marcy had gone back to her house and Anne back to her life about a week ago now, so how come their smiles played in her mind every time she blinked? Why couldn’t she just think for two minutes without wondering how Anne would feel about coffee after work? Or if Marcy was open to Facetiming sometime later tonight? And why couldn’t she just do this damn paperwork?
“Hey,” her coworker opened her door slowly, “You doing ok? I’ve passed by a few times now and you haven’t moved in like 20 minutes or something.”
“I’m fine, Matt,” Sasha closed her eyes and rubbed her temples, “just, a little confused I guess.”
“Is there anything I can do to help?”
“Short of this paperwork for me? Not really,” Sasha laughed, “but.. Thanks. I think I’m just gonna head out early today.”
“Ok,” her coworker started to close the door, “you have my number if you need anything! I hope you feel better!” With that, Matt left.
Sasha put her head in her arms and laid on her desk for a moment before stretching, grabbing her things, and heading home.
~~~
Marcy was not ok.
She had read enough fanfiction in her life to know what was happening, but unlike fanfiction, Marcy wasn’t the nerdy but lovable girl next door. No. That would be too easy. No, Marcy was the nerdy but lovable girl on the other side of the country. Because life never gave Marcy Wu a break. From literally being possessed by a supercomputer to having a gay crisis in the middle of an aquarium last week, life just loved giving Marcy that sweet, sweet character development.
All she wanted to do was do some storyboarding for a new chapter, but no. No, she had to spend the next 5 hours hyperfixating on drawing her, Anne, and Sasha in their old Calamity Trio superpower outfits from memory. Because of course she did.
By the time she was done, the sun was way below the horizon and her stomach was growling. She begrudgingly left her desk to go make Ramen, left with only the thoughts of red and blue space girls.
~~~
Anne was going insane.
“No, mom, I’m telling you, I can’t stop thinking about them. I think I’m going crazy,” Anne was on the phone with her mother while on her way home from work 2 weeks after Marcy had left again.
“Well, sweetie,” her mother said, “have you reached out to either of them to, I don’t know, ask how they are?”
“What? No!” Anne gasped, “That would be weird! I haven’t talked to them in years… not really.” Anne looked sadly at her hands gripped tightly on her wheel.
“Anne, they planned a whole surprise party for you and found where you worked just to go see you. Marcy flew from the other side of the country for you, and Sasha was the one who organized that whole week for you guys, work schedules and all. I don’t think it’s an over-exaggeration to say that they still care about you,” Mrs. Boonchuay finished.
“I guess then…” Anne trailed off and suddenly felt terrible, “I guess then I haven’t been as good of a friend as I thought.”
It was silent for a minute before, “Anne, you had some growing to do, and so did they. I don’t think they hold anything against you for focusing on yourself for a while.” Her mother laughed a little, “I can hear you overthinking from over here.”
Anne chuckled, “Well- you’re right. You always are. I’ll think about it, I guess.”
“Or,” Mrs. Boonchuay offered, “you could go see a certain therapist to go work out your feelings.”
And that’s how Anne ended up outside an office building, a small paper with an address written on it held tightly in her sweaty hands.
~~~
“Hey, uh, Sasha,” Matt knocked nervously on Sasha’s opened door.
“What’s up, Matt?” Sasha looked up from her computer.
“There’s a nurse -or something- here to see you? She looks a little old to be a client of yours and a little too young to be a parent,” Matt finished, his voice filled with uncertainty.
Sasha’s heartbeat sped up. No, no, I can’t get my hopes up Sasha thought.
“Alright,” said standing up, “where is she?”
“I’ll just go get her!” And he sped out of the room.
Sasha sat down and tried not to think too hard about that interaction and more about who would just show up at her office without warning. A beat of silence passes before-
“Hey, Sash,” Anne said nervously, “How’s work?”
~~~
Marcy was losing it. She couldn’t even focus on anime without her heart deciding to plant another never-gonna-happen scenario into her brain.
This was the last straw.
She was gonna call Sasha.
It’s not that weird, she reasoned with herself, she planned that whole ‘Anne Birthday’ thing with me. This is just a friendly call to see how she’s doing and maybe see if Anne is doing well after that. That’s it. Marcy was trying to calm her racing heart as she pressed the FaceTime call button on a contact labeled Commander Sasha .
~~~
“Anne?! What are you doing here?”
Anne walked into her office slowly, her face a little red, “I just… thought this would be better than just some random text.”
“So you showed up at my place of work unannounced?” Sasha deadpanned.
“I just- I... I felt- I couldn’t just-” Anne sputtered.
“Hey, hey,” Sasha’s voice was gentle, a smile played on her lips, “Take a seat, let’s talk this out, but next time, I’m making you pay for your session. You don’t get special treatment because you saved a planet one time. Student loans are a bitch.”
Anne laughed. Like a lot. Probably more than she should have. She was just relieved. This was Sasha , there was never anything to be worried about.
“Ok, ok,” Anne responded, “I’ll just text you next time, but I guess I just thought that it would feel a little insincere.”
“And why is that?” Sasha was clearly in her element.
“I think I just…” Anne trailed off, not sure if she wanted to continue.
“This is a safe space, Anne,” Sasha said, “No judgment.”
Anne took a deep breath before rambling off, “I think I have a crush on you and Marcy but I feel bad because you two have been such good friends even after all this time apart and I never really bothered to reach out and then that whole thing with my birthday happened the other week and now I can’t stop thinking about it and we haven’t really talked a lot since middle school but wow did my gay panic only get worse and I don’t know how to deal with any of this so I came here because sending a text felt too cheap and like if I did that then I wasn’t actually trying and-”
“Woah, woah,” Sasha’s heart was definitely going at an unhealthy rate. She tried her best to stay as calm as she could. “Can you repeat that for me, but slower?” Sasha’s voice was smooth and gentle and Anne was not ok. The lesbian gods were being merciless.
“I just… really miss you and Marcy. And I don’t think I realized how much that was until Marcy left again and you just… went back to your life and I went back to mine,” Anne was looking down at her hands twisting in her lap.
Sasha reached out to touch Anne’s shoulder before-
{iPhone Piano Riff Ringtone}
“Hold on, sorry.” Sasha grabbed her phone out of her pocket, reading the contact Master Marcy .
Sasha’s face went beat red, she smirked, “You said you missed Marcy too, right?”
~~~
Sasha picked up after the first few rings, and to Marcy’s surprise, with Anne in her office. She felt like she just interrupted something.
“Uh- hey, Sash, Anna-banana,” she could feel her cheeks redden, “If this is a bad time, I can text you-”
“No, no,” Anne said quickly, leaning in towards the phone, “your timing couldn’t be better actually.” Anne had a soft smile on her face, she was on the big fluffy chair sasha had in her office. “I just-” she stopped, took a deep breath, and said, “I have something I need to tell you both.”
“Me too,” Sasha and Marcy said simultaneously.
They all looked at each other and laughed, their faces flushed.
“Okay, okay,” Sasha said, “Why doesn’t Anne go first?”
Anne sat up and leaned away from Sasha and Marcy for a second and closed her eyes, Change is scary, but it’s a part of life , Anne thought. She took another deep breath and opened her eyes, leaning towards Sasha and Marcy on her phone.
“Ok, I know I haven’t exactly been the most consistent friend in your guys’ lives, especially after middle school. But, last week, I guess it just made me realize how much I missed having you both in my life and-” Anne tried to slow her heart. She clutched the cushions underneath her and looked at her friends' faces, “I think I really like you guys. Like, a more-than-best-friends like.”
The room went silent. Anne began to feel herself shrinking into her seat.
Sasha giggled, tears starting to make their way down her face, “Is that what this was about, Boonchuay?”
“Yes? I don’t think this was exactly my plan, but… yeah,” Anne laughed with her, “Is that how you’re gonna say yes to asking me out?”
“I guess so,” Sasha was smiling so lovingly at Anne before she turned to her phone to see Marcy very clearly screaming while on mute.
“M- Marcy?” Sasha sputtered.
“AAAAH! Sorry, sorry. I just got really excited,” Marcy was out of breath, “And before you ask, yes, that is how I am saying yes to dating both of you.”
They fell into a conversation about cute date ideas shortly after that. Sasha suggested a streaming movie date, Anne suggested a video chat dinner, but Marcy was already a few steps ahead of them.
“I can just move back to LA!” she beamed.
“You- what?” Anne asked.
“Yeah,” Marcy responded back cheerily, “I mean, I’m 23, so it’s not like I need to live with my parents anymore. Plus, there’s a ton of jobs I can go into for art over there, and in-person networking is way easier than online.” Marcy looked proud of herself, but Anne and Sasha held looks of concern.
“Marcy, as much as we would love that,” Anne started, “I think it’s just a little more expensive here than it is in Connecticut.”
“Yeah, Mar-Mar,” Sasha added, “plus, do you really wanna fall into the U-Haul Lesbian trope that easily?”
“Well actually Sasha, that’s not what that means, but also,” Marcy continued, “I was planning on moving over there soon anyway, I’ve been saving up and applying to jobs over there. Connecticut was never my home, not really,” Marcy started playing with her fingers, “Anywhere without you two is kind of hard to call home.”
It was Anne’s turn to start crying. She got up and hugged Sasha and her phone. “Marcy!” she cried, “When you get here,” she sniffled, “I’m gonna give you so many hugs, you’re gonna pass out!”
“And maybe a little more than hugs,” Sasha said, kissing the top of Anne’s head.
Marcy grinned widely, “I’ll look forward to it, girlfriends!”
“Today marks the official trial of the former king, Andrias Leviathan the First of Amphibia, so-called ‘peacekeeper of a thousand years,’” Olivia begins, announcing the event that a great crowd of Amphibians has gathered to see.
From the ranks of witnesses to his countless crimes against his own people, Marcy feels the world around her blur out as Olivia jumps into the list of his transgressions.
And suddenly, Marcy hears her name in the speech, and the world clicks back into place with dizzying speed.
“... and the torture and murder of the young chief ranger Marcy Wu--”
There’s whispering among the newts she knows less well, sitting next to her. she can’t look at them, but she feels them looking at her. Sounds are muffled again, the world blurred, and she wants to sink away into her wheelchair and avoid the stares. Marcy knows that Olivia had worded her statement as she had to make more sense to those who were unaware of the full story, but what about those who know she’s alive? Olivia had even warned her of this; that she’d be describing what he’d done to her. Never mind that, she’ll need to tell her story soon anyways. That is, if she can face it by then.
This is unnecessary; everyone in the room knows what he did, the treaties and decrees and guidelines he’d ignored, blatantly broken. But it’s a matter of tradition. Even more importantly, there’s still argument over what his sentence should be. Execution seems obvious, but Olivia wants them to choose something else. Life in prison for someone as long-lived as a Leviathan seems more fair, after all the suffering he caused her and this entire world. Marcy lets her mind go blank again, something she was forced to learn to do while under the Core’s control, while the witnesses tell their stories of enslavement in the robot factories, of being driven from strip-mined areas that were suddenly lifeless and impossible to farm, and the stories of those whose homes had been destroyed in the crossfire. The plan was for her to go last, partially proposed by her, because she’d known that the simple fact was that she could work well for pathos. She hates reducing herself and her injuries to pity points, but it’s a tactical, logical technique. And maybe this traumatized, permanently injured, small girl will be enough to win over the lingering masses to their side.
Finally, her name is called, and she numbly rolls herself forwards. Anne, standing beside Sasha at the base of the stairs to the raised platform, helps Marcy out of the chair and into her arms. Old Newtopian architecture isn’t very accessible. Then again, with so much of the Old City destroyed, she could perhaps lay out some plans for new construction to be better in that sense.
“You'll do fine,” she whispers into Marcy’s ear. Sasha picks up Marcy’s wheelchair and carries it up the small flight of stairs to the stage. There, Marcy sits back down, adjusts herself, and lets Sasha fix a few loose strands of hair. She takes a deep breath, ignoring the twinge of pain in her ribs that still lingers all these months later, and rolls her wheelchair towards Olivia.
She can hear the gasps and whispers from the crowd at this small girl’s lasting injuries. She forces herself to ignore it.
She has a script, she has index cards, even! She's practiced by herself in the mirror, though only one of those rehearsals didn’t end in her crying into her arms, alone in her room.
No, she’s going to be fine. She has a script, she’s practiced. She can do this.
“Hi, uh, everyone.”
The microphone squeaks uncomfortably.
“As you probably already know, I'm Marcy Wu. I arrived in this world with two other humans and ended up rising to a high position under the king. I trusted him. but when the toads attacked and everything fell apart, he told us who he really was.
“He told me that day that his ancestors had been conquerors of worlds, and I realized that he’d only used me to get the box back. He tried to lead an invasion on my home planet, and my friends were barely able to stop him.
“I wasn’t there to fight by their side in the war, because that night when he admitted to who he’d once been, I… he stabbed me through the chest with his sword. I died less than three minutes later.”
Numbers make it easier. If she can focus on those simple, objective figures, maybe she can hold herself together. She can feel the crowd watching her, waiting for her next move.
“Obviously, since I’m here today, he didn’t let me stay dead. He had plans for me. He brought me back to life, and kept me unconscious, in stasis as I healed, in a secret room in the castle.”
She looks at Olivia.
“When he started enacting his plans, Olivia and Yunan snuck down to save me. But they never made it out. The Core, his ancient master, appeared. It grabbed me, strapped me to a chair… and then…”
She can’t do it. She can’t keep this up.
“Olms, it--he… god, it hurt so much. The--the Core, it… it downloaded itself into my mind, but it was torturing me, my entire body felt like it had been set on fire… it turned me into its host, it trapped me in my mind, and he used me as a weapon--” She’s fallen off of her script, scrambling to remember the things she’s supposed to be saying, shuffling through her cards but unable to read them as she becomes increasingly panicked. Finally, all she can do is scream -- a broken sound, coming from those damaged lungs of hers -- and throw her cards to the ground. She slumps in her chair in frustration and overwhelming emotion, eyes stinging with tears as she tries not to fall apart. She feels tears flowing down her cheeks, energy crackling as her eyes glow green. No, she won’t unleash that here. But she can’t keep going, either.
“Olivia, I--I can’t,” she says, a few drops running down her face as she turns towards her.
The crowd starts to whisper when Olivia quickly steps over to hug Marcy as she finally breaks, sobbing into the newt’s silk dress. Olivia strokes her back, where the cut of her dress exposes the deep scar that traces down her spine, with smooth, cold hands, murmuring to her gently.
Olivia pulls back for a moment, tenderly brushing the hair out of Marcy’s eyes. “Do you want to go wait with Anne and Sasha?” she asks her, quietly. Marcy, through her tears, can only nod. Too shaken to wheel herself back to them, waiting at the top of the stairs, she lets Olivia push her.
When Olivia returns to her speech, Sasha and Anne again help her off of the stage and back into her wheelchair. As they make their way away from the crowd’s eyes, Marcy overhears Olivia.
“The girl you just saw is less than fourteen years old. Andrias committed one of the worst acts in our recorded history through what he did to her. She will never be the same as she was before Andrias’s conquest of the land thanks to the pain she suffered at his hands. That alone should be enough for you all to see why execution would be too light a fate for him. Countless Amphibians died under his conquests, but it was this child who he tortured so horribly that may well have suffered more than any.”
Marcy doesn’t need to hear any more.
Hell, she isn’t supposed to be hearing this at all, probably, but Anne and Sasha have lingered, and she can’t bring herself to say the words to express this. It’s not until she starts sobbing again, shaking in her chair, that Anne finally nudges Sasha to wheel her through the backstage door and away from this place.
-
The door behind the stage of the hall they’re using for this trial opens into a quiet alley that spills into Newtopia’s park, left uncared for but mostly undamaged by the war. There’s not a cloud in the vibrant blue sky, the grass is pure green; it’s a beautiful day, and the sun is growing low enough that soon the city will turn gold under the sunset’s light. Marcy sees none of that.
Anne cups her cheek in her hand, making Marcy look up at her. Marcy doesn’t meet her eyes, looking off into the distance over her shoulder with her eyes unfocused.
“How can we help you?” Anne asks.
Not “are you okay”, because that answer is certainly obvious. She just broke down into tears onstage in front of hundreds of Amphibians over the incredibly traumatizing torture she’d been subjected to during the war.
No, Anne asks how she can help.
What can we do?
What do you need?
Marcy is tired of needing to be cared for, but sometimes it’s nice.
She forces herself to smile, though she’s never quite mastered the way of letting the fake expression continue to her eyes. Marcy can tell that Anne notices. “H-how about a--a date?”
She lets the shakiness of her voice carry through, just to show that she’s trying to feel better. She’s trying.
“I--I mean, we’re already dressed f-for it, right?”
Her smile does, in fact, briefly become genuine.
Sasha pecks a quick kiss on Marcy’s cheek, just on top of the scars tracing where the helmet had attached to her flesh, and that’s finally enough to break down the painful emotions Marcy’s found herself lost in. She giggles. When Anne, too, leans down to softly kiss her, she can’t help herself. Marcy laughs and grins as soon as Anne pulls back.
“Feel better?” Anne asks.
Marcy nods, then adds, “Y-yeah. I think so.” Marcy looks up at her, smiling softly. The sun has indeed started to set. Anne looks beautiful, Marcy thinks, looking at the amber light shining through Anne’s curls, strands gently moving in the evening breeze off the water.
Sasha laughs, and Marcy realizes that she said that out loud.
“So, a date?” Sasha says.
“Where do you want to go?” Anne asks, looking at Marcy. “You can pick tonight.”
Marcy smiles, looking up at the sky.
“Well, there’s this restaurant that Olivia and Yunan went out to one of the times I stayed with you and the Plantars…” she begins.
As she continues to pitch that date, engrossed in her planning, she doesn’t catch the glance that Anne and Sasha share.
They’re happy for her.
A few months ago, if Marcy had tried to even think about her experiences, she’d have practically shut down for at least the rest of the day. Today, she managed to talk about it briefly, and moved on from the tears that followed quickly enough to share a date with her girlfriends on that same day. It might not be easy, or even always as linear, but at least she’s getting better, one day at a time.
Oh yes I want to hear what characters you think of ∞ ∞ ∞ ∞ ∞
With his gun, with his head held high He told me not to cry Oh, my daddy said shoot Oh, my daddy said shoot
from Daddy Lessons, by The Chicks (it's originally a Beyonce song but I prefer their version XD)
This one is already a theme, specifically it's Wolf (or Cat)'s theme in the Cat Wolfslayer AU, where she gets adopted by Yumyan:
Tumblr media
Come rain or wreck or ruin I'll be following these dreams The same way I've been doing Since the middle of my teens If there's a single person out there To whom this song something means I'd take one lonely broken heart Over a hundred million streams
from We've Got An Office In Hackney, by Grace Petrie
This is also already a theme, and already a KATAOW theme at that; I associate a lot of Grace Petrie's songs with Kipo herself, including this one. It's mainly for my Clover Starlift AU, but they work in general too:
Tumblr media
But you can see yourself a winner Beyond the money and the greed Beyond the pride is a pure untested need And to be a champion is more than luck and speed It's power and freedom in the spirit of the wind
from You Got To Run (Spirit Of The Wind) by Buffy Sainte-Marie & Tanya Tagaq
I've only seen bits and pieces of She-Ra, but this just really gives me Catra vibes for some reason. I actually might make this a permanent theme for her if she ever appears in any of my stuff:
Tumblr media
Today we sail On the Solar Rail For there's much we just don't know So farewell with a kiss Then it's fast for the mist Till we're all sleeping in the cold below
from Sleeping In The Cold Below, from Warframe
The Colm McGuinness version of this is actually Marcy Wu's theme in my Eternal Overseer AU, but the original has always had big vibes of Homeworld from Steven Universe; I don't associate it with one single character, but I like to imagine there's a version of it that's a common star-shanty on Great Diamond Authority warships:
Tumblr media
Either
If the night time lasts forever But the days are cruel and mean Let the water wash away your sins And you thought one day you'd be happy If you held in all your screams Let the water wash away your sins
or
If your mother was a screamer And your father ruled with fists Let the water wash away your sins And if you're thinking 'bout the highway And you're looking at your wrists Let the water wash away your sins
from Let The Water Wash Away Your Sins, by the Hope County Choir (from Far Cry 5)
This is a weird one; for me, all of the cult music from Far Cry 5 is heavily associated with the Apex from Infinity Train (more so than the original game). This song in particular is my main theme for Grace Monroe:
Hey, I just wanted to say that I absolutely love your Amphibia AU! The characters all feel genuine and the interactions with each other are really fun! Plus, it’s really cool that each chapter deviates from the original episode. Keep up the great work, your writing is amazing!
Well, thanks for taking the time to send this! I love getting comments like these. I'm so glad you are enjoying the AU so far! Those canon deviations are going to get more and more pronounced as we get later in the fic, so I'm glad your liking them!
But Also, since I forgot to post about the update today, and this is about as ringing an endorsement as I could get, hey, if you want to check out my fic, here's a link to A Witch in Wartwood. It's a Swap Start AU, mainly focusing on Marcy Wu who ended up just outside Wartwood instead of safely behind the walls of Newtopia.
I try to update every Sunday.
Amphibia Weekly Reviews: New Wartwood and Friend or Frobo?
Tumblr media
Hello all you happy people! And welcome back to another week’s worth of Amphibia reviews! And we got two standout episodes today as Marcy tries to home improvement her way into people’s hearts, and Polly makes friends with a destructive but endearing robot. Find out what I thought about in full under the cut!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
New Wartwood: Marcy episode! Wu-hoo! And true to the show’s current status quo, and I do love how it evolves, it’s her first day in Wartwood and she’s pumped. And true to the awkward, probably autistic like yours truly, nerd we’re dealing with.. she does not make a great impression or intergrate herself to the naturally suspcious of outsiders tow. So when questioned by Anne how her day went she gets into how the town’s carefully built on a swamp.. and how the townsfolk hate her, complete with Angry Mob. Anne disperses it but it’s still the funniest moment of the episode to me, both in how a small one sprouted up so quick.. and how polly’s there despite LIKING Marcy (”I go where the mob goes anne!”). ALso i’d be remiss if I didn’t mention Anne just.. casually blushing while talking to Marcy. There’s no catalyist or any reason she would for any other reason than being sweet on her.
Tumblr media
So Marcy, after fixing a statue she knocked over, decides she can earn their love faster as she dosen’t want to wait.  This does get to one of Marcy’s core issues.. while she has many, like any of us, it ties back to the fact she has trouble getting this isn’t a video game. I mean she does get the diffrence between real life and a game on an objective level, but she can’t get real life dosen’t WORK like fiction, something i’ve also struggled with and can massively relate to. So she assumes helping them, via fixing up the town a bit, will make them like her. It makes them warm up a little but they still don’t.
So naturally, who should come in by blimp to give her a tempting offer that will end badly but Mayor Toadstool! He also has a blimp now but it keeps escaping... I think I know where it went.
Tumblr media
So THAT’S how he can afford those things. Naturally seeing how nice Marcy made things he has a plan to exploit the hell out of her gifts with masonry to pretty up the town as a tourist attraction to make him more money. Anne talks her out of it.. but she ends up caving in the middle of the night. I also love the touch of her staying in the Fwagon, not forgetting the plantars bought it and finding a practical use for it in and out of story now i’ts no longer needed. I also love the little signs she has on it.
The next morning the town awakes to marble pillars in front of all of the shops to make them look fancy and Marcy and the Mayor promoting the town’s new effort,s including a golden founderss tatue and a horrifying golden clock of toadstool, with Anne warry of her girlfriend’s antics. Mostly becaue you can’t force people to like you or bribe them to. Otherwise you cause the entire town to sink into the water bellow... like now. But while Marcy is now convinced the town will never accept her she still dosen’t want them all to die, and summons Joe Sparrow.. who continues to be the best thing ever added to this cast I swear to god as he helps her save the day, removing the various new things to reduce weight, saving some villiagers from a pillar (as Croaker points out their frogs ending up in the water isn’t that deadly), and getting rid of the gold monstrosities.
So the end result is that the town is rightfully liviid, though she does genuinely appologize.. and suprisingly.. TOADSTOOL actually tries to take all the blame. The town rightfully dosen’t let him, but it’s clear he’s somehow growing as a person. Even if anne’s assement of him as “What would happen if the Monopoly Man had a Baby with a PIece of Fried Chicken” is still 100% accurate. They do agree they’ll like her with time, just like Anne, and if supscious, will gladly give her another shot. So Marcy’s learned her lesson.. always listen to your girlfriend. And while she literally fixes her damage.. the mascot toadstool hired explodes as it’s full of bugs.
Tumblr media
Final Thoughts on New Wartwood: This was a fun episode. A fairly simple and predictable one, but sometimes that works perfectly and this one was just damn funny, charming and full of good character stuff. Top notch.
Tumblr media
Friend or Frobo?:
I have a confession to make: I fricking love robots. It’s something that really HASN’T come up before, but I love a good robot. There’s just tons of good stories to be had with artifical beings, their struggles to be recongized for who they are, their cool powers, their awkward but endearing attempts to fit in with us less than deserving humans. And ficton’s had TONS and TONS of awesome ones: The Vision (in both 616 and MCU flavors), who is one of my faviorite heroes period, Red Tornado, Jenny Wakeman, Shard the Metal Sonic, BOYD, Aya, Data, Crow, Tom Servo, Gypsy, Growler, Robo, Grimlock. the list really DOES go on into infinity for me.
WEirdly though I didn’t pay much mind to Frobo before this episode.. but with no real personality other than endearlingly running into the same obstacle for hours, and no real background yet, I didn’t really have anything to attach to other than “Cool anne’s either going to nearly get killed by a robot or get one”. But this episode changed that using the oldest trick in the book: having a child befriend it. We’ve seen it before with Sentinels, Badniks, Autobots and Iron Giants. Now we get it again with largeish frog robot. And it is pretty damn good.
This is a Polly episode. It’s Hop Pop’s faviorite day: Seed Store Day! Naturally Marcy has come along and naturlaly she’s just as geeked out about seeds as he is because she’s precious and I must protect her from the horrible trauma her trusted father figure is about to inflict on her. Polly naturally wants to get into some shenanigans but suprisingly.. Anne and Sprig don’t wanna anymore. THey’ve learned their lesson and decide to just play video games. So polly does the resonable thing.. and blames them for some shenanigans on her part and goes out to get into more shneanigans only to find it’s lonely without a friend.
Enter Frobo, named that because he looks like a frog and she heard the term robo from anne’s game. And despite very limited programming... Frobo is VERY loveable. As Polly notes he’s essentially a baby: he starts by mimicing her, including his horrifying but endearing laugh, and even doing her spin dash she gained a few episodes back I didn’t mention because I forgot. That one’s on me. Sprig also did the Yooka Laylee thing on top of her spin dash then so there’s that.
Point is it’s all fun, games and heartwarming bonding till Frobo accidently floods the city and gets mobbed and one of the mobbs makes the terrible mistake of accidently kicking polly.
Tumblr media
He goes into Red Eye Iron Giant HOmage mode and starts fighting everybody.. including Anne and Sprig who show up to contain things, but eventually Polly wins everyone over with a heartwarming speech as she stops him, pointing out it was her fault and while he is weird, he’s just an innocent> The town.. decides why not. As the mayor points out “We already have two freaks what’s a third”. And given Marcy nearly killed them all yesterday and they begrudginly acepted her and anne did it WAY more than once and they see her as one of them, yeah they give up.
Naturally once they get back Marcy is an easy sell. Now she can do chrono trigger cosplay! Hop Pop is a bit till it’s shown that frobo can farm super fast, and he’s part of the family now. Sprig and Anne shrug off him having come from the factory, and this surely won’t backfire on them surely.
Final Thoughts on Friend or Frobo:
This one was excellent. The idea of Polly having to learn repsonsiblity was a nice idea, and Frobo is as I said endearing: he’s simply an innocent being who knows nothing and is slowly learning and his friendship with polly is really fucking cute. And giving him an emotional attachment to the plantars means whatevers going on with him gets higher stakes.. and given how robots are treated in fiction i’m just counting the minutes till he tragically gets blowed up real good. But until then this episode was a standout for the season. While as I made clear the “Kid befriends death machine” trope is not NEW, the baby concept made it feel fresh. It also as usual had some good jokes.
So all in all a top notch week, really great stuff and i’ts only going to get better next time!
Nexttime: Mayor Toadstool is tempted to leave. Kay. But more importantly MADDIE EPISODE AGAIN BITCHES. AND IT HAS MARCY IT. I’M READY.
Next On This Blog: Final Space Yo! Quinn and Gary visit earth and Tribore leaves.. again. Be here or be... elsewhere I guess
I just realized something...
So far in Season 3, we've met three of the new human characters: Dr. Jan, Ally, and Jess. I just noticed that Marcy actually has a few things in common with them:
Like Marcy, Dr. Jan is big into history.
Like Marcy, Ally and Jess invent stuff.
I wouldn't be surprised if the next humans we meet also have something in common with Marcy. Maybe part of the series' ending will involve Marcy making friends with the humans that helped Anne and help her realize that she's not an outsider after all.
After everything that had happened, Sasha Waybright had never expected her life to start taking a turn for the better.
It had been two whole months since Sasha and Grime attempted (and failed) to overthrow King Andrias, who revealed himself to be a tyrant bent on conquering multiple worlds, starting with Earth. Two whole months since Marcy confessed to having stranded them on Amphibia intentionally out of the fear of losing them. Two whole months since Anne activated her powers, thinking she’d lost Sprig, and attacked Andrias. Two whole months since Anne and her frog family, the Plantars, fled into the portal for Earth.
Two whole months since Anne and Sasha both had to watch Marcy get stabbed by that tyrant, an apology barely escaping her lips.
Since that day, Sasha and Grime had taken refuge in Wartwood, and started a new and improved rebellion, consisting of not just toads, but also the frogs and newts as well. Sasha herself had begun trying to be a better person, getting to know the town better, who also came to know her better. She had befriended Ivy Sundew, the girlfriend of Sprig Plantar, whom Sasha had tried to kill that day at Toad Tower (the subject was still awkward for the both of them). She had protected them from Andrias’ robots, but they helped fight too sometimes. She had even managed to make up with Percy and Braddock, after some tough conversations.
Sasha had come to love Wartwood. It was funny, really. Before, she had only seen the town and its people as something to rule over, to control. But now, it felt like a home, a real home, one where she could be loved, cared for, and understood, unlike her home and parents back on Earth, who never bothered to listen to her.
One fine afternoon however, Sasha was heading back to the Plantars’ house to check up on Bessie and MicroAngelo, the two snails of the farm, when suddenly someone yelled “AMBUSH!” and tackled Sasha to the ground. She didn’t need to look up to know that it was her friend Ivy.
“Ha! Gotcha again!” Ivy exclaimed, as Sasha sat up, rolling her eyes with a smile.
“Yeah, you sure did,” Sasha chuckled, before asking, “So, uh, what’s gotten you so excited today kid?”
“Oh, you are NOT gonna believe this,” Ivy said, bouncing up and down as Sasha giggled at the sight. What she heard next, though, made her freeze.
“Anne’s back!”
Sasha blinked once, trying to understand if she had just heard her correctly. “Wait, what? What do you mean she’s back? W-what are you talking about?”
“I said Anne’s back, genius,” Ivy replied, rolling her eyes, unaware of the fear in Sasha’s voice. “One of our spies spotted her and the Plantars in a nearby village, northeast of Wartwood. Should be about a few hours before she arrives, which will give us enough time to throw a Welcome-Back PARTYYYY!” she whooped, stretching the last word. Her smile faded when she saw the look on Sasha’s face. “Uh…Sasha? You ok?”
Sasha didn’t respond, her mind too clouded with fear and dread of her inevitable reunion with Anne, especially after what had happened the last time the two were together. Memories flashed, her first fight with Anne at Toad Tower, when she let go of Anne’s hand, her second fight with Anne on the Newtopian gates after her second betrayal, where she was more furious and untrusting than ever, and refused to listen to her warnings about Andrias. Her words echoed in her head, words that had opened her eyes ever since.
“You’re a horrible person, Sasha, and I’m DONE being friends with you!”
She’ll be angry if she sees me. She’ll think I’m hurting them, and she’ll try to kill me. I can’t show my face to her. I can’t. I can’t, I can’t, I can’t, I can’t, I-
“I can’t,” Sasha whispered, and with that, she ran off towards the barn, much to Ivy’s surprise and concern, past Grime who never got the chance to welcome her back, and locked herself in.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Ivy ran after Sasha, concerned for the blonde, as it wasn’t normal for her to just run like that (She had done that before when she first returned to Wartwood, but still). She had always known that Sasha would be nervous about seeing Anne again, provided that things between them were rough, but she didn’t think she would be THAT scared.
She headed towards the barn, where she found Captain Grime, the toad that Sasha served, knocking on the door, asking her to let him in. She ran up, gave Grime a quick wave, and knocked.
“Sasha?” she called. “Are you in there?” No response, except for a few audible whimpers and sobs, which showed just how stressed the blonde was.
She looked towards Grime. “Alright, old toad. On the count of three, we break in. Ready?”
“I’m not that old, but fine,” Grime grumbled as he prepared his hammer.
“One…two…THREE!”
Their strength combined, the two broke the door to the barn (Hop Pop was going to give them an earful for that) and found Bessie and MicroAngelo, who nodded their heads towards where Sasha was. But they were NOT ready for the sight that awaited them: Sasha cowering in the corner of the barn , hugging her knees, and scratching at the scars that littered her arms, which had come from battling hordes of robots sent after her.
“She…here…too soon…can’t…” she whimpered as she continued to scratch at the scars, making them even worse.
Can’t Show My Face (WIP)
Hey, everyone! I have officially started writing my very first fanfic. It’s for this awesome show called Amphibia (which you should TOTALLY go check out by the way) and this fanfic focuses on everyone’s favorite blonde, Sasha Waybright herself! This is a small WIP, because I wanted to share what I’ve written so far! It’s my first one, so it might not be great, but let me know what you think!
(special thanks to @hughjidiot , @eeveearoace-creative , @space-lynn , @dawn-is-gay , @thecrusadercomrade , @iamnota-sexualperson and @iamthelordoftime whose amazing works inspired me to start writing a few of my own!)
forever lovely. forever true. until the day when I meet you.
a friend, a lover, or something more? we won't know until we open that door. to something new and different. together we'll discover it.
a greater purpose. loving another. stronger, truer, lovelier. forever greater when I'm with you.
a connection built on care and trust. being together strengthens both of us.
you chose me and I chose you. together we will make it through. whatever life throws at us. we will face it. stronger, truer, lovelier. together we will stand forever.
may the bond we share never end.
sometimes it hurts to remember things you wish you could forget. but painful memories will fade away eventually and you will make happier ones to replace them.
like faded ink in an old notebook. those thoughts will become unreadable.
like a song you can hum but the lyrics escape you.
like how the sun comes out after a rainstorm. good memories will shine too.
if you open your heart to new experiences; tear down your walls and let them in. you'll find that healing is possible if given time. you just have to let yourself believe it.
some days are high and some days are low.
other days can summed up as "hell if I know".
but I'm still here and every day that I am is a day where I can be stronger tomorrow if I give it a chance.
so if you're struggling too.
just know, that if you get through today you'll see a tomorrow that might just be brighter. I'm rooting for you.
Under Your Scars, an Amphibia Fanfiction
(TW for panic attacks. Takes place post-canon with aged-up characters.)
Marcy has been together with Anne for one year now and wants to make their anniversary special, but memories of what happened in Amphibia all those years ago threaten to bring everything crashing down.
Thankfully for Marcy, Sasha is there to hold her together while she falls apart.
AO3 Link
---
The shower knob squeaked as it was turned to the right, cutting off the steady stream of warm water. Steam filled the tiny apartment bathroom as Marcy Wu stepped out of the shower, water dripping down her in rivets, eyes shut tight. Quick as a flash the nineteen-year-old STEM major whipped the fluffy green towel off the bar beside the sink, wrapping it tightly around her torso.
 It was only when she was fully covered that Marcy dared open her eyes.
 She wiped the condensation away from the mirror, brushing her wet hair away from her eyes. She popped open the medicine cabinet above the sink, removing her toothbrush and toothpaste before gently closing the door. As she cleaned her teeth, the mint of the toothpaste tingling against her tongue, Marcy ran though her to-do list in her head. A paradoxical mix of anticipation and apprehension roiled in her gut.
 Today was hers and Anne’s anniversary.
 Marcy still couldn’t believe it had been a full year since she and Anne Boonchuy had officially started dating. A full year since Anne had first taken Marcy’s hands in her own, blushing and stuttering, asking if Marcy wanted to have dinner together that weekend. Not with Sasha as they usually did; just the two of them. Marcy had been stunned into silence, a silence that Anne had initially taken for a rejection that had her stammering out an apology looking close to tears.
 Marcy’s senses had returned to her just in time, and she’d practically screamed yes, of  course she’d go out with Anne.
 In hindsight it seemed natural that the two girls would end up together. They’d been friends since kindergarten, complimenting each other perfectly. Anne would be the one to look out for Marcy and keep her safe, while Marcy would be the one to help Anne with the schoolwork she always struggled with. Along with their mutual friend Sasha Waybright, they completed each other, made each other whole.
 Granted there had been some… complications in their adolescence. Complications that were exacerbated by circumstances that most teenagers couldn’t imagine dealing with. But in the end the three had worked through everything, coming out with a stronger friendship, a  genuine  friendship. A friendship that had naturally segued into romance for Anne and Marcy, with Sasha fully supportive of her oldest friends getting together.
 Now it was time to celebrate one year of their relationship.
 The day had gotten off to a great start already, Marcy waking up to find that Anne had already gotten up and prepared a full breakfast of all their favorite foods. They laughed and joked as they ate, finding simple joy in each other’s presence. They talked about Anne’s work and Marcy’s schooling, and how much they were looking forward to the reservation they’d made at that new Italian restaurant for dinner tonight.
 Marcy felt her face heat up as she finished brushing, spitting the foamy mixture into the sink. Their dinner date wasn’t until eight in the evening, it was a little after eleven now, and Anne would be back from working the lunch shift at her parent’s restaurant around two. Meaning they’d have almost the entire day all to themselves. And Marcy wanted it to be  special.
 After a year together, after a year of going no further than heavy make-out sessions, she’d decided it was finally time to take things with Anne to the next level.
 Feeling that her hair was dry enough, Marcy retrieved the hair dryer from the cabinet. She closed the door again, and froze at the sight of her reflection.
 Her towel had slipped ever-so-slightly, exposing a triangular patch of pale-pink skin just below her collarbone, extending to underneath the fabric.
 Marcy felt her breath hitch as the memories came flooding back to her.
 Memories of her arguing with her parents on that autumn day.
 Running from her house in tears, screaming that they were ruining her life.
 Finding the Calamity Box in the pawn shop.
 Remembering the book from the library, thinking it had to be a coincidence, that there’s no  way it would actually work.
 Then, the fateful decision: what’s the harm in trying?
 Marcy felt her hands start to tremble. The memories came faster.
 Standing outside the pawn shop with Sasha while Anne stole the music box.
 Seeing a blinding flash when Anne opened the box at the park.
 Landing in a city straight out of one of her video games.
 Meeting him. The “good king” who took in a confused and frightened visitor from another world. The man who housed, studied with her, gave her a crossbow as a gift and taught her how to shoot. An adult who actually listened to what she had to say, who encouraged her to embrace her own interests rather than force his ideals on her.
 Being made the head of an entire military branch. Going on thrilling missions and daring adventures, just like her favorite fantasy novels.
 Then, meeting Anne again after so many months apart.
 Marcy’s eyes started to burn, welling up with tears. More memories, slamming into her like a physical force.
 Feeling such hope and joy as she was reunited with her oldest friend.
 Showing her the city. Introducing her to King Andrias.
 Doing research on the music box so that the girls could finally get home. Just like Anne wanted.
 Letting her go so she could spend just a little more time with her surrogate frog family.
 Watching Anne dash through the streets, leaving Marcy alone.
 Then, seven words from King Andrias that would again change the course of her life: “I have a proposition for you, Marcy… ”
 Marcy’s legs trembled, and she dropped the hairdryer and gripped the counter to steady herself as she tried desperately to get her breathing under control. Not helping was that the motion had caused her towel to drop further, exposing even more of that damned scar. The memories wouldn’t stop.
 Travelling across Amphibia with Anne and the Plantars on a quest to charge the stones of the Calamity Box.
 Meeting Sasha again after so much time apart, who seemed to have truly grown and turned over a new leaf.
 Lying to both of them about going home.
 Returning to Newtopia with the fully-charged box in tow.
 Watching in shock as Sasha and Grime stabbed them in the back and launched a full-blown toad rebellion.
 Watching in horror as Anne exploded at Sasha, ending their friendship right then and there.
 Thinking that it was fine, this was fine, they’d had their spats before, Marcy could fix this like she always did.
 Working with Anne, the Plantars, Yunan and Olivia to free King Andrias and crush the rebellion.
 Then, the moment everything came crashing down.
  Keep it together, Marcy thought to herself in the bathroom, shutting her eyes tight. She bit her bottom lip hard enough to draw blood as her mind was assaulted with sounds and images. Not today. Not today…
 Listening in stunned shock to Andrias’s delusional ranting.
 Watching the Calamity Box light up the castle, feeling the entire structure rise into the sky as a small army of robots seemed to show up out of nowhere.
 Pleading with Andrias that this wasn’t supposed to happen, this wasn’t part of the plan.
 Standing there helpless as Andrias coldly revealed the truth in front of everyone.
 Desperately trying to explain things to Anne and Sasha. Sasha backing away in anger and disgust. Anne looking at Marcy with such hurt, such betrayal.
  You did that to them, a voice whispered in the back of Marcy’s brain. You tore them from their homes, their lives, put them through hell. It was all you, Marcy.
 Fighting Andrias’ robots alongside everyone.
 Staring in horror as Andrias cruelly dropped Sprig to his death.
 Diving out the window after them, whistling for Joe Sparrow to fly in and save them both. It was the least she could do. He  was Anne’s best friend, after all.
 Returning to the castle with Sprig in tow, watching in awe as Anne laid the hurt down on Andrias, using powers that none of the girls understood at the time.
 Grabbing the music box, using it to open a portal home. Anne and the Plantars rushing through while Sasha and Grime held off Andrias.
 And then.
 Pain.
 Pain unlike anything Marcy had ever felt.
 Looking down to see the glowing tip of Andrias’s sword protruding from her chest.
 Hearing the stone-cold voice of the man she thought she could trust: “Now look what you made me do.”
 Pain.
 Using her last breath to apologize as her body went numb.
  Pain.
 Hearing Anne’s anguished cry as the world around Marcy faded away.
  Pain pain pain such horrible pain-
 Marcy practically ripped the medicine cabinet open, grabbing her anti-panic attack medication. She untwisted the cap and, despite her shaking, managed to get a single pill out and popped it into her mouth. She slammed the cabinet door shut and turned on the faucet, collecting water in her cupped hands and taking a huge gulp.
 Unfortunately, her rapid movements sent the towel tumbling to the floor, leaving that goddamned scar on full display.
 An ugly, thick, jagged line of pale-pink, starting below her collarbone, crossing down over her heart and ending just below her right breast.
 A permanent reminder of the biggest mistake of Marcy’s life. A mistake that had nearly gotten her killed. Almost got her  friends  killed.  Could have killed them at several points, if things had gone just a little bit differently.
 Aside from the doctors she’d seen when their adventure in Amphibia was over, she’d never shown  anyone the full scar. Not her parents, not Sasha, not even Anne.
 In her mind’s eye she saw Anne staring at her bare chest, recoiling in shock and horror from the sight of the scar. A reminder of the one who uprooted Anne from everything she knew on her thirteenth birthday and dropped her into a hostile new world that had almost killed her multiple times.
 She heard Anne’s words from all those years ago echo in her ears: “How could you?! I’ve been missing my family, my life!”
 Marcy tore out of the bathroom, eyes shut against the sting of her tears. She sprinted to the bedroom and threw herself onto the bed, not daring to open her eyes until she had pulled the comforter over her still-damp form and covered her scar. Her breathing was heavy and ragged, her vision was blurry, her heart slammed against her ribcage, and a sensation of pins and needles settled in her hands and feet.
 Marcy curled herself tight into a ball on the bed she shared with Anne. Sweet, kind, wonderful Anne who was hard at work right now, who would walk through the front door in just a few hours expecting to spend a magical anniversary with her girlfriend.
 That thought did little to calm Marcy down.
 She reached for her phone on the nightstand. It wasn’t easy with her hands trembling the way they were, but she managed to pull up Sasha’s name and hit the call button. Marcy waited for what felt like an eternity as the phone rang until, mercifully, it was answered on the second ring.
  “What’s up girlfriend?” Sasha Waybright asked casually.
 “S-sasha?” Marcy choked out.
  “Marcy?!”  Sasha’s tone changed in a heartbeat. “What’s the matter? Where are you?”
 “Apartment. Anxiety attack. It’s r-really bad this time…”
  “Hang on, I’m on my way!”
 Sasha hung up. Marcy let the phone slip from her hand and she curled up tighter, trying to focus on her breathing.
 Several minutes later, Marcy heard the front door unlock and Sasha’s voice call out: “Marcy?!”
 “In here,” Marcy managed to reply.
 Sasha came rushing into the bedroom. The blond woman took one look at the scene on the bed and gasped, hand going to her mouth.
 “S-sorry to bother you,” Marcy said with a forced smile, craning her neck to look. “I-I didn’t have anyone else to call…”
 “Marcy it’s okay,” Sasha said right away. She crossed the room and laid down on the bed, wrapping her arms around Marcy and pulling her close. One hand went to Marcy’s wet black hair, stroking gently. “It’s okay, just breathe with me. Breathe, Marcy. In and out. In…”
 Marcy took a shaky breath, holding it in.
 “And out.”
 She forced herself to exhale slowly, the tears still falling.
 “In… and out…”
It took several minutes, but the combination of Sasha’s comforting presence and the medication managed to calm Marcy down. After making sure Marcy was okay, Sasha laid out a t-shirt and some sweatpants for her before heading out to the kitchen to fix her something to eat. It took every ounce of Marcy’s energy to pull herself out of bed, quickly putting the shirt on first to get that scar covered. She pulled on her pants and shuffled out of the bedroom, moving at a slow and steady pace.
 “Hey Mar-Mar,” Sasha said gently. She was sitting on the living room couch, two bowls of mint chocolate-chip ice cream placed on the coffee table in front of her. “Hope you don’t mind but I raided your freezer.”
 “It’s fine,” Marcy said with a small smile. She grabbed one of the bowls and shoveled a huge spoonful into her mouth. The pleasant taste of mint spread across her tongue as she crunched chocolate chunks between her teeth. “Sasha I’m so sorry for dragging you over here-”
 “Uh-uh-uh!” Sasha said firmly. “I don’t wanna hear any of that junk. You know I’m always here for you and Anne, no matter what.” She paused to eat some of her own ice cream. “So… it was really bad this time, huh?”
 Marcy shuddered as she thought back to her panic attack in the bathroom. “Yeah. I haven’t had an attack that bad in a long time.”
 “If you don’t mind me asking, do you know what triggered it?”
 An image of Anne recoiling at the sight of Marcy’s scar tried to force its way into Marcy’s brain, but she derailed that train of thought.
 “Well… do you know what today is?” Marcy asked.
 “Your’s and Anne’s anniversary,” Sasha answered instantly. She furrowed her brow. “What, did you guys have a fight or something?” Sasha’s eyes widened. “You didn’t forget, did you?”
 “No no no!” Marcy said quickly, waving her hands. “No, everything’s fine between us. And it’s been going great so far: we had a nice breakfast this morning and have a reservation at the new Italian place tonight.”
 “Then what’s the problem?”
 Marcy paused, a blush settling over her cheeks. “Well… Anne gets home from work in a few hours, and then we have a few hours before dinner. I wanted the two of us to have a… special time together. If you know what I mean.”
 Sasha pursed her lips in thought, then her eyes widened and she smirked. “Oh I get you,” she said teasingly. “Finally gonna kick things up a notch, huh? Marcy you dog.”
 Marcy gave a small smile and blushed deeper at Sasha’s playful ribbing.
 “So what are you worried about? Do you need anything ‘special’ to spice things up? ‘Cause there’s a shop like three blocks from here, I can tag along if you’re nervous about going by your-”
 “No, that’s not the issue,” Marcy said quickly before her face could burst into flames. She gave a heavy sigh. “I’m just worried about… this.”
 She grabbed her shirt collar and pulled it down just enough to expose the top part of her scar.
 Sasha furrowed her brow. “Your scar? What’s the big deal about that?” Her eyes widened and she winced. “Er not to say your scar isn't important, I mean! I know that it’s from a major time in our lives a-and I’m not trying to downplay the crazy shit you went through, I just-”
 “It’s okay, I get what you mean,” Marcy said. She sighed heavily. “But that’s… kind of my problem.”
 “Uh, I’m not following you.”
 Marcy sighed heavily. “It’s just… when you get down to it,  everything we went through in Amphibia was because of me. I was the one who found the Calamity Box. I was the one who knew exactly what it would do. I helped you pressure Anne into stealing it, all because I couldn’t face being alone.”
 Marcy felt her eyes start to burn as the tears welled up again, and she quickly wiped them away. “I didn’t wanna be alone, and I ripped you guys away from your lives and families! I dropped you into a dangerous world, a place that could’ve gotten you guys killed!”  The tears welled up again and Marcy’s voice hitched as she went on. “And then I lied to you both about going home! I-I just assumed you guys would want to keep going on adventures with me forever, I never even considered your feelings! I was so blinded by my desires that I didn’t even realize a power-hungry tyrant was playing me like a fiddle! And he… h-he...”
 Sasha’s arms shot out, pulling Marcy into a tight hug. “It’s okay, Marcy,” she said softly. “Everything’s okay. Just breathe.”
 Marcy took several deep, shuddering breaths. She could feel another attack welling up inside her, but the medication kept it in check. Sasha held her for a few more minutes until Marcy felt calm enough to continue.
 “This scar is a permanent reminder of everything I put us through,” Marcy said when she pulled away. She subconsciously traced her hand across the scar over her shirt. “It’s something I’ll be living with for the rest of my life. Most of the time I can’t even look at it without triggering an attack. And I guess I’m just… afraid of Anne seeing it, okay? What if she sees it and remembers that everything she went through was  my fault? What if…”
 Marcy paused for a long while, looking down. When she spoke again, her voice was barely a whisper. “What if she realizes just how horrible I am?”
 Sasha reached out to put a comforting hand on Marcy’s shoulder.
 “Oh Mar-Mar…” she said gently, a soft smile gracing her features. “You’re such an idiot.”
 Marcy looked up sharply. “Huh?”
 “You really think Anne’s gonna leave you over something like that?” Sasha chuckled and shook her head. “For someone so smart, you can be pretty damn stupid sometimes. Anne is crazy about you Marcy. You should hear the way she goes on about you during our girls’ nights. There’s no way in hell she’d leave you over everything that happened all those years ago.”
 “But I was the one who-”
 “And that’s another thing! You’re putting way too much blame on yourself for that mess. Sure you might have found the box but I was the one who convinced Anne to swipe it. And you’re not the only one who made some big mistakes in Amphibia.” She chuckled. “I mean at least Andrias tricked you. I willingly tried to start a violent uprising to overthrow the government.”
 Marcy rolled her eyes. “And look what happened when we stopped you.”
 Sasha shrugged. “Yeah, but hindsight is a bitch like that.” She gently grabbed Marcy’s chin to turn her head towards Sasha, looking Marcy in the eye as she continued.
 “Look, I’m not trying to downplay your mistakes. Because you made some  big  ones, I’m not denying that. We all made mistakes, but we all owned up to them. We learned from them so we could become better people. And you’re forgetting the important thing of all: we forgave you. Anne and I both forgave you a long, long time ago. Okay?”
 Marcy felt a pang in her chest. It wasn’t the first time she’d heard those words, not by a long shot. But it didn’t lessen the impact one bit. She could feel the storm clouds of anxiety that had been roiling inside her begin to dissipate. “... Really?”
 Sasha smiled sweetly. “Really.”
 She yelped as Marcy shot forward to wrap Sasha in a hug, but quickly returned the embrace.
 “Thank you Sasha,” Marcy said, “I really needed this, you have no idea.”
 “No problem, Marcy,” Sasha said, patting her friend on the back. “You gonna be okay?”
 Marcy pulled back and nodded. “Yeah. I… I think I’ll be alright.”
 “Good. Now before I take off, are you sure there’s nothing you need help with before Anne comes home?”
 Marcy opened her mouth but paused, the gears turning in her brain. She slowly smiled as an idea began to take shape.
 “Actually… I think there is. I’m gonna need some rose petals.”
---
The apartment was dark when Anne arrived after work.
 This fact didn’t surprise her too much; Marcy had a habit of gaming with the lights off, much to Anne’s charaign. But when she fished the key out of her pocket and let herself in, she was surprised to see the living room TV dark and the couch Marcy-free.
 “Honey, I’m home!” Anne called out her usual greeting as she stepped across the threshold, gently shutting the door behind her.
 No response.
 Anne frowned as she shrugged her coat off her shoulders. Was Marcy taking a nap or something?
 She was about to call out again when she saw them: rose petals on the floor. They started just beyond the front door and led down the hall towards the bedroom. The door was open just a crack, soft light coming from inside.
 “Well well well, what have we here?” Anne asked herself with a chuckle as she kicked off her shoes. “Marcy Wu, you charmer.”
 Anne made her way down the hall, gently opening the bedroom door.
 Her heart skipped a beat.
 The lights in the bedroom were all off and the curtains had been drawn; the only illumination came from the candles burning on the nightstand. The trail of rose petals continued across the carpet to the bed itself.
 Marcy Wu laid back on the bed, her upper body propped up on pillows with her arms spread out casually. The blanket covered her up to her chest, clinging to the contours of her body, the creamy skin of her bare shoulders tantalizing peeking out from where the blanket ended. Marcy smiled warmly at her girlfriend, giving Anne the sultriest gaze she could muster.
 “Hey Anna-Bananna,” she said in a breathy voice. “How was work?”
 Fire blossomed in Anne’s face as she opened and closed her mouth, which was suddenly  very dry. “Uh… guh…”
 Marcy felt her confidence ebb at Anne’s stammering and she chuckled awkwardly. “Sorry, was this too much?”
 “Oh no no, it’s more than fine!” Anne said quickly. “I mean I was thinking you’d have something waiting for me when I got home, but this…” Anne made a show of tugging at her shirt collar. “This is beyond anything I could’ve imagined.”
 Marcy perked up, smiling shyly as she brushed some of her hair behind her ear. “So you like it then?”
 Anne crossed the space between them in a fraction of a second, joining Marcy on the bed. She cupped Marcy’s chin and leaned in for a long, deep kiss. Marcy returned the kiss with gusto, reaching up with one hand to thread her fingers through Anne’s hair while the other held the blanket in place.
 “I love it,” Anne said when she pulled away, fixing Marcy with a fiery gaze that had her trembling in anticipation. As much as Marcy wanted to start tearing Anne’s clothes off right then and there, she took a deep breath and held herself back.
 She had to do this right.
 “Anne,” Marcy said as she sat up, still holding the blanket up over her chest as she looked into her girlfriend’s eyes, “this last year has been the happiest of my entire life. When I’m with you, everything just feels right. You complete me in ways no one else ever has. You give me strength and confidence, inspire me to be a better person. I love that you’re the last thing I see before I go to sleep each night and the first thing I see when I wake up in the morning. I love you, Anne Boonchuy.”
 Anne placed a hand over her mouth, eyes twinkling. “Marcy…”
 Marcy took another deep breath. “I know we’ve gotten pretty… familiar with each other over these last several months. And if you’re ready to take things to the next level…”
 She let the blanket fall. “Then so am I.”
 Anne’s blush deepened as her eyes traveled downward. Marcy kept her face steady, but some dark corner of her brain was still expecting Anne to pull back at the sight of her scar, reminded that everything that happened in Amphibia - all of her hardships and brushes with death - was all because of Marcy.
 But there was no revulsion, no anger. There was lust and desire in her gaze to be sure. But there was also passion and love. The same spark Marcy saw when she and Anne would get lost in each other’s eyes while eating dinner, or walking in the park, or just cuddling on the couch.
 Anne looked back up at Marcy, then leaned in for a second kiss. Tender and gentle but with a hunger and passion bubbling just below the surface. Marcy melted into the kiss, allowing herself to be pushed back onto the pillows as Anne crawled further onto the bed, climbing on top of her girlfriend. Anne pulled away after several long seconds, both girls breathing heavily, staring at each other with smoldering eyes.
 “I’ve been ready for a long, long time,” Anne said. “I love you Marcy Wu.”
 Marcy felt her heart soar.
 She wrapped her arms around Anne and pulled her close for yet another kiss. The third of many, many more.
