Ok, so I always find it hard to do these things as my first reaction is to run and hide - but honestly I have loved writing some of these fics so here we go!

The only hope for me is you - Stucky - this is probably the best researched fic I've ever done. I loved worldbuilding this and coming up with a relatively realistic post-apocalyptic no-zombies world. Plus, hurt Bucky and Steve just pining was so satisfying to write.

Of shadow realms and misconceptions - Stucky - I have read a lot of fantasy...a lot - and this was written in almost one sitting over a couple of hours. It just flowed and I had no idea where it was going - it literally wrote itself... I just love it. (Insert Marge Simpson gif saying 'i just think it's neat' here)

Subliminal advertising - Stucky - this is peak disaster Bucky, and pun central (literally sooo many puns). I had the idea after walking behind a guy at the supermarket, who may have been wildly attractive and suddenly every food package could be misconstrued as dirty... Sorry...not sorry I guess!

Forgive, yet never forget - Stucky - this fic is all @martelldoran fault. It was a gorgeously heartbreaking prompt which I was nervous about as I generally write fluff and smut (with a healthy dose of pining) and what came about was really cathartic after the endgame debacle. I guess my unintentional fix-it fic.

Death by chips and lips - Superbats - yes I can (and do) write pairings other than Stucky! My obsession with this pairing is still strong and I have a few half written fics I'll publish soon - but I was eating a bag of salt'n'vinegar chips (crisps) that had so much vinegar my lips were tingling - so what else could I do but write Bruce lusting after Clark who complained about his tingling lips until he can't take it anymore!

Terms and Conditions - Pynch AU in which Gansey has discovered that the best way to keep Ronan from self destructing is for him to be dommed, but Gansey is only willing to do it platonically / hands off (sorry Ronsey shippers, there’s plenty in the polycule fic?)  Adam was kicked out of Harvard due to a false cheating accusation, and now runs a completely illegal “smart device” management business with an exorbitant termination fee which he uses to blackmail the ultrawealthy. 

Mere Coincidence - A TRC Good Omens Pynch AU in which Ronan is the angel, Adam is the devil, and Gansey is the antichrist

Where or from whom did you learn how to gif? I started out making the most busted ass gifs you’d ever seen in your life through wildly inefficient trial and error (shit like pausing a video clip at uneven intervals to manually take screenshots of frames, then compiling them all into a folder and opening it in GIMP to add subtitles and other adjustments frame by frame - reeeeally terrible). I probably only had the patience for this since this was back in 2010ish when the gif file size limit was like 0.5 MB, so you really couldn’t squeeze in many frames without some serious sorcery (and/or making everything greyscale and cutting out huge swathes of the background). At some point though I went “there has to be a better way than this” and started looking up tutorials by other infinitely more competent gifmakers (something something standing on the shoulders of giants) and eventually migrated over to photoshop, and the rest is just a decade+ of very slow tweaks (and hopefully improvements, my god, some of my old gifs have me Marge Simpson Hiding Face Meme dot png).

What is your gif’ing process like? Gif’ing little bits of dialogue is generally the simplest - I gather my footage, write out the transcript of what is being said in my Notes app, block out how the text will be divided/how many gifs the set will be, then import the frames to photoshop and figure out what kind of coloring I’m dealing with. Some games are a lot simpler and only need some basic Brightness/Contrast adjustments, but others (Dishonored, Control, etc) need more Curves/Color Balance/Selective Color/etc layers to try and neutralize any particularly strong filters/effects to dig out more natural or visually interesting colors underneath. From there it’s a matter of adding subtitles, checking the timing, making sure the loop isn’t too jarring, cutting down the file size if needed, then exporting and checking how it actually looks on tumblr and making any final adjustments based on that (usually adding some extra brightness layers or tweaking the frame rate).

Sets with any sort of typography effects take a lot longer because i am Very Bad at them, and sets compiling lots of different scenes usually end up with me having to load up/replay various parts of the game a bunch of times to get more footage when i inevitably realize it would look more balanced with shots X, Y, and Z viewed from another inch to the left or whatever.

A set that took you a long time/was really hard but you’re really proud of how it came out. The Dishonored 10th anniversary set for sure, it was the double whammy described above of being very bad at typography and also needing to retake a bunch of footage or just find alternate scenes that the text would fit in/around better. I started that one like a week in advance specifically because I knew it would be a pain in the ass, and it was, but also Anything For You, Dishonored 2012 Dev. Arkane Studios, My Beloved

Fully depends on the mood and artist. But mainly album. If it someone I very much love and enjoy listening to I love just putting my head phones on and listening to a whole album.

Or putting an album on shuffle.

TECHNICALLY Jonas Brothers just based kn how much I listen to them regularly. 🙈 They've just been there for me for 18 years and are the biggest constant in my life. Insert that gif of Marge embarrassed, hiding her face. I don't want them to be my favorite band but the mean a lot.

BUT if you're looking for more bands that I have said match my personal aesthetic it's between Måneskin and Palaye Royale. Though I wasn't the biggest fan of Måneskin's last album so I fell off.

But Palaye Royale is still releasing great stuff.

Well, earlier I didn't think I'd ever write paragraphs for Hospital Playlist as I am already too jaded with the writer and director duo's evil game of stringing the viewers along, making them invested and feeling lulled with their feelings and ships only to break them later. But tonight... yeah I have this urge to write paragraphs of things because at episode 10, I think they have made things more clearer and obvious so I just want to document my finding, lol. So yeah, excuse me. *insert Marge Simpson embarrassed gif*

(Caution: these are purely my own observation and personal interpretations. They are of course prone to be wrong and may be interpreted so differently than others)

HOSPITAL PLAYLIST EPISODE 10 THEME: ONE SIDED LOVES AND CONFESSIONS.

Seeing how the episode panned out and the song they performed - Confession is Not Flashy, I think the theme of the episode is one sided loves and confessions.

The writer director duo has regarded the song "Confession is Not Flashy" as a one-sided love song, based on their usage of the song in Reply 1994, episode 8 when the lights was out because of the rain and the kids were listening to the radio at the living room. The DJ narrated:

"Everyone, this is your chance. If by chance the person you love is next to you and if you are in a one-sided love, you should take advantage of this darkness and stare at the person you love as much as you can. I'll play a song for you. So until the electricity comes back, feel free to imagine being in a relationship with that person. Does it even matter? It's a one-sided love after all. That person doesn't know about it. Although you are in a one-sided love relationship, I hope you'll have a happy date during the 3 minutes of this song. This is a gift for those who are in a one-sided relationship and those who are lonely yet happy. It's 'Confession is Not Flashy' by Lee Seung Hwan. Everyone, end your one-sided love today. When the rain stops tomorrow, confess your love like said in the song. You never know, that person might be in love with you too."

I know this drama and Reply 1994 are totally different dramas, but I believe the writer-director's view on the songs they have chosen must still be the same. So when they use the same song in Hospital Playlist, their view on the song and what they represent should still be the same.

And true to their view about the song, this episode really is filled with one-sided loves and confessions (directly or indirectly) :

1. Chi Hong's one sided love towards Song Hwa, and his indirect confession despite her earlier rejection.

He was enjoying the few minutes alone time with Song Hwa during the NS lunch date and a little bit displeased when Dr. Yong turned up on time, lol. From picking up the strand of hair on her shoulder (which made her uncomfortable), to saying "I'll stay right by your side, Professor".

2. Min Ha's one-sided love towards Seok Hyeong and her direct confession in his car.

Girl got some gusto I like their scene so much I was squealing the whole time ajdjfjf. Her confession and what she said after to him was so cool, my heart fluttered!

3. Gyeo Wool's one-sided love towards Jeong Won and her indirect confession to him via her manager, Ik Jun. Haha.

Ik Jun is campaigning for Jeong Won to accept Gyeo Wool so hard. Why? Not really because of Jeong Won, but because of Gyeo Wool. He adores her as a doctor and as a person that he wants her to be happy and he said this himself. He knows that the thing that would make Gyeo Wool happy is by being with the person she likes, Jeong Won. As how it is, Jeong Won denied Ik Jun's assumption that he likes Gyeo Wool. As Jeong Won was looking at Ik Jun bemusedly for his suggestion, he was probably recalling his conversation with Jun Wan about Ik Jun being a nutcase and how he and Ik Jun are not seeing eye to eye (the Korean phrase can also be translated as "not like minded") and he can't figure Ik Jun's mind at all sometimes.

4. Ik Jun's one-sided love towards Song Hwa and his very smooth indirect confession.

The reason why I see it as one-sided from was because Song Hwa doesn't seem to view him romantically. Most of the time, the affection from her towards him seems to be purely platonic. She always hit him, threatening to punch him and chided him for behaving like a kid. She even refused skinship(?) from his end by kicking him when his feet were touching hers under the cafeteria table. The scene where they look domesticated at his house really is heart fluttering, but when he (so smoothly) indirectly confessed to her, she was startled and looked away. She seems wanting to avoid it, turned her face away, pretending to look outside and then change the subject, asking him to continue eating. It doesn't look like a positive reaction after a confession. But I might be wrong though.

5. Song Hwa's one-sided love(?) towards Jeong Won and her proposal as an indirect confession

(This one is actually so weak and I don't really think it's feasible but somehow there seems to be something, especially from Song Hwa's end that leaves some nagging feeling and suspicions)

Song Hwa doesn't come off as someone who would freely intiate affectionate and excessive skinships with the boys. She would just give them either some friendly touches on their arms, friendly or consolation pats (to Seok Hyeong and Jun Wan) or hitting and kicking them (to Ik Jun). But with Jeong Won, she seems to take the opportunity(?) to lean on his shoulder when he put his arms around her when supporting her purchase decision. But, this could also mean that they're so close that there's no personal boundaries between them. However, both of them were not portrayed to have that kind of dynamic. Song Hwa is a lot closer to the other 3 boys than Jeong Won but she was never shown to initiate such an intimate skinship with them.

After witnessing Jeong Won being so lovable with the little boy (look at how she looks at him) and enthusiastically talking about him and his brother, she proposed to him "Jeong Won, let's get married / marry me" (the right literal translation). He was startled, looking directly at her in surprise and then she backtracked(?), telling him to find a great woman and make babies as she imagined how cute it would be if he has his own children. Her random "proposal" might be brushed off as a joke, but Song Hwa doesn't seem like a person who would freely joke on such a matter either. If her proposal actually wasn't a joke as how she covered it to be, then it can be regarded as a type of confession too, no?

6. Jeong Won's non-romantic one-sided intention towards Song Hwa and his direct confession and proposal.

Jeong Won has one-sidedly intended for Song Hwa to take over his Daddy Long Legs project since spring. He confessed to her than he is in fact Daddy Long Legs (Grandpa Long Legs to her, lol). He proposed for her to take it over, and she accepted it.

Now,

I know Hospital Playlist is not the same as the Reply series as there is no 'who is the husband game' mystery. And it actually has a more similar vibe to Prison Playbook imo. But at the same time, Hospital Playlist is made to share the same formula as the Reply series: apart from the heartwarming small daily stories, the writer and director duo also deliberately hide and witheld certain POVs, make them opague and opening them up for interpretations which leads to people starting guessing games. Then they filled the show with small details and nuances to corroborate the interpretations and fuelling the guessing game.

It is the same as the Reply series where people were made to guess whom did the female lead like, whom would the female lead choose and ends up with.

But this time, the persons whose POV were hidden and making people keep on guessing are not only the female lead Song Hwa, but also Jeong Won. Will he really quit and becomes a priest? Does he like Gyeo Wool or not? Will he end up with Gyeo Wool or not? As for Song Hwa, it's the question of whom does she like? Does she have feelings for Ik Jun or not? Will she change her mind and consider Chi Hong or not?

Those sort of mysteries are established because both Jeong Won's and Song Hwa's insights were deliberately witheld and made to be opague. We have insight to Ik Jun's, Jun Wan's and Seok Hyeong's feelings. But not the other two. This witholding of POVs and insights to their feelings made things open for different interpretations, sparked the guessing games and established ships, just like the Reply series.

Powerpuff Girls 2016 - “Save the Date”

Can it save the reboot?

I'm sorry, I have to bring this up. Season 2 was a minor improvement over Season 1, and I was wondering if Season 3 was going to continue with fixing minor problems. Already, they managed to address two particular aspects that some people felt was a horrible, horrible problem with this reboot. Looks like the crew have listened to their pleas...

...finally, they decided to give Ms. Keane her chest back. What a huge problem that was, am I right? Well, I was a little curious to why they decided to omit her breasts in the last two seasons. I was almost thinking that this was a subtle hint at a very special episode that this show would definitely not do appropriately. But no, they were just hiding under that jacket the whole time. Yeah, that's it. Now that I got that settled, let's begin the actual review.

The episode starts off with Ms. Keane being awkward while she's teaching class about Shakespeare. As soon as she starts saying the word love, she starts to stutter. She even writes it out, which is a slightly clever joke.

The Powerpuff Girls ask her what's wrong. Buttercup assumes that she has a malfunctioning robot brain, which is a typical random joke from our rascally little green princess. But no, it's because she has to get ready for a first date. Yes, in that wording; that elephant in the room is certainly growing at an alarming rate!

The Reboot Puffs offer to give her some makeup tips. They did do a good job with the Professor when they prepared for his date with Ima Goodlady, so it's not completely out there for the Powerpuff Girls to prepare someone for a date. Any potential jokes were thrown out pretty much immediately by Ms. Keane refusing their offer, which is probably to this episode’s benefit.

There’s two different running jokes with this outfit: Ms. Keane's difficulty with high heels, a relatable joke for anyone who had to wear them, and Ms. Keane apparently has a bad pimple that everyone in the show can see, but is thankfully never drawn for us. It's for this episode's benefit.

Her "first date" with this random 38-year-old named Todd at the Snooty Rose. It's cool to see a reference to a previous episode, right down to having the same waiter show up.

Speaking of references to previous episodes, now I shall point out the elephant in the room: yes, Ms. Keane did go on a date with the Professor in the original, and this episode outright denies it ever happened by calling this the first date. People might be mad that this rando that never appeared before replaced an official pairing in the original. I'm not one of them. Sure, a professor and a teacher would make a great couple...

...but even with her inexperience, Ms. Keane is way too good to be the Marge Simpson to this show's Sitcom Dad. Thankfully, this scene in Super Sweet 6 was the closest we got to referencing that pairing. Besides, he already has a love interest with Sapna Nehru, and I would prefer he get eaten alive by a giant spider monster.

Before Ms. Keane can get to that date, Discount Jojo shows up driving a truck loaded with a bunch of barrels full of radioactive goo. He's angry that he has to drive all of these to a special location to dispose of it. Sure, he may be an evil monkey, but he has to abide by those environmental laws!

Another crime he doesn't want to commit is vehicular manslaughter, as he notices Ms. Keane walking across the crosswalk, trying not to fall on her face. He swerves out of the way, causing one of the barrels to fall over and spill radioactive goo all over her. Discount Jojo tries to save face.

Discount Jojo: Uh, don't worry! It's defective!

Ms. Keane: How is it defective?

Discount Jojo: (slowly drives away)

Admittedly, that did get a minor laugh out of me. But hey, maybe her date won't notice the radioactive slime that's all over her! Suddenly, she starts glowing, and we get a GIF that was probably made already, but I decided to make it myself anyway. That's the Fly Pow Bye way!

This episode involves Ms. Keane growing to skyscraper size, ripping her clothes, and her accidently causing a ruckus around Townsville. Yeah, I knew this reboot was essentially official fanfiction, but I didn't think it was going to be that kind of fanfiction! Granted, I should have expected this considering we had that muscle episode a season ago.

This episode is just like that episode of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles where Irma grew into a giant, that episode of DuckTales 87 where Webby grew into a giant, or that episode of Jackie Chan Adventures where Jade grew into a giant. Wow, that plot is really common! I guess one big difference is that it doesn't advertise itself as a "turn into a giant" episode. It's like, surprise, it's one of these!

Even some helicopters come in to complete the Godzilla reference. Give them credit, they manage to get both of the running jokes about Ms. Keane's appearance in one line. They start shooting her, with some surprisingly realistic machine gun sound effects out of them. I guess if they're completely useless against the giant teacher, it's okay.

Ms. Keane ends up being chased off to Monster Island, which is a setting I feel has a lot of potential for plots. There's only two episodes that had a major focus on this island: Escape From Monster Island and Aliver. I wouldn't say this episode is the best appearance of that island, but I can't say this is bad, either.

The Powerpuff Girls show up just as soon as Ms. Keane goes away, and the Mayor tells them that a giant pretty monster lady just attacked Townsville. Somehow, they managed to look at Monster Island and find out that it's Ms. Keane. It's here that I realize that it's pretty rare to see the Powerpuff Girls use any superpower that isn't strength, flight, eye-lasers, or those new-fangled aura powers, so I didn't even think about them having telescoping vision!

The Powerpuff Girls go to Monster Island to find Ms. Keane sobbing about her new appearance and height. They offer to take her to the Professor. Judging by his track record, he'd probably accidently turn her into an even more hideous monster with two pimples, so she refuses. Well, that is not the actual reason.

She decided that, since she's a monster now, Monster Island is her new home. The Powerpuff Girls try to convince her that she's acting...something, but Blossom gets a text message from the Mayor that Townsville is under attack by a giant monster before she can complete that sentence.

Bubbles: But Ms. Keane's already here!

...burn? By the way, there's another running gag about the Mayor needing Ms. Keane to teach him how to spell. Good to know that didn't hinder his ability to send a text message! I would say Ms. Bellum sent the text, but sadly, while that all-important boob "problem" was fixed, they didn't fix that problem.

An ant came into contact with the goo, causing it to grow into this monster. The helicopters come in, but immediately leave because there's no pimple to focus on. The real flying heroes show up, and they actually do very well! Won't this just turn into a Monster Punch Girls Down in the end like every other scene like this? Does Buttercup make a lazy pun that had to be telegraphed to the audience?

Buttercup: ANT (five seconds later) that's the end of that!

Before Buttercup can make an aura scarf and say the word "chapter" to complete a Simpsons reference, we relearn that it just wouldn't be good for the plot if the Powerpuff Girls could easily take care of this monster.

Ant Stomp, Girls Down, womp womp. One minute, they’re superpowerful and no monster can beat them, the next minute, they are getting curbstomped by an ant. Admittedly, having trouble with a giant ant monster for plot convenience isn’t unique to the reboot; the exact same thing happened in Bubblevision. However, just because the original did it doesn't make it okay.

While that carnage is going on, Ms. Keane is trying to teach a bunch of giant monsters about the story of Romeo and Juliet. It goes about as well as one might expect: one of the tiny monsters eats one of the bigger monsters in one gulp. Okay, maybe one didn't expect that. Romeo and Juliet did have death, but that might not be the reference they're going for.

Eventually, she sees the Powerpuff Girls flying all around the ant monster. Once again, being off-camera seems to be the Reboot Puff's equivalent to Popeye's spinach cans. As she leaves, that tiny monster spits out the bigger monster's bloodless skull. I am both bewildered and amused by that random joke, mostly becase I was surprised they could even show bones.

The Powerpuff Girls, once again at the mercy of the ant's giant foot, is saved by Ms. Keane's flying kick! Not that this is entirely another "our powerful heroines have to be saved by a strong person" plot, the Powerpuff Girls do manage to help her out, too. As she gets knocked out by the ant monster, the Powerpuff Girls wake up to do a strategy.

It's a strategy they repeat from a previous episode, surprisingly enough. I will now call it the Tazmanian Devil strategy because it uses the same sound effect in this episode. They flying all around the monster, causing him to get dizzy. Blossom motions to Ms. Keane to finish the job.

Blossom: Ms. Keane, he's dizzy! Give him the busy!

Ugh, Blossom, while it may be that kind of fanfiction, it's not that kind of fanfiction. Thankfully.

She runs flawlessly with her heels, giving a payoff to the heels gag, and punches him right back into Monster Island. Yeah, someone who had no implied fighting skills whatsoever managed to upstage the Powerpuff Girls in defeating a giant monster all because she’s super big. One would think this show about three tiny six-year-old superheroes would teach kids that size isn’t everything, but here’s an episode kicks that right in the face. With heels!

Sadly for Ms. Keane's fighting career, the goo starts to wear off. How convienent! Discount Jojo drives back and says that's the reason why it was defective. Glad to see that joke wasn't kept hanging without a real punchline, even if this barely counts as one. I don't really get it.

Most importantly, she manages to make it to her date, who was talking to his mother the whole time about how not all women are monsters. I don't know why, either. Even though her dress is ruined, and most of the resturaunt is in shambles due to the giant ant monster, he's okay with it. What a nice guy. I'm sure Todd will eventually appear again. Maybe. Sort of. Not really.

Does the title fit?

Two different meanings to the title: Ms. Keane had to save the day and also had to save her "date".

How does it stack up?

This episode is actually pretty good by reboot standards. There's some decent jokes here and there, and the fight scenes are above average. Even when Ms. Keane joins the picture, it's not completely one-sided like most battles in this series.

The Powerpuff Girls are mostly useless in this episode. The best they can do is make an ant dizzy so that Ms. Keane can defeat the monster. The date character isn't too interesting, either, he doesn't add any real tension to the plot. They tried, but it didn't work for me.

Despite that, even if a giant Ms. Keane isn't your fantasy story, this is one of the better episodes. It's definitely a superheroine story, even if it wasn't the superheroines you expected.

Next, we find out if this reboot deserves a Beatles reference, a Meet The Beat-Alls reference, or even a reference to that Bee Gees movie.
