Relena got an opportunity for her Political Career that said she had to invite Dorothy to a party. So I came up with the headcanon that because Duo is Mars president but didn't grow up in the world of socialites and fancy dress, he asks (begs) Relena to organize a social party for the Earth's president's Mars visit.
I like to imagine that Dorothy would stir Duo up pretending to declare war and such lmao. She doesn't mean it of course, but she still enjoys watching others squirm to make her happy.
Anyways here are some pics from the party!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Naturally, right off the bat Mariemaia and Dorothy get into a heated discussion. Lady Une and Zechs are in the background reading and trying their best not to get involved.
Doctor J wasn't even invited but like the "weed" he is decided to show up anyway.
Heero and Duo are chatting about kids in the back there. Duo offering great advice on how Fenrir was an absolute tyrant growing up (the years he new him lol) but parenthoods all worth it in the end. "Just wait until Selena and Hiruko reach their teens" lmao.
That's Milou in the front but I think he disappeared to read somewhere lol.
Of you're wondering why Relena's dress is like that it comes from this official art, and yes it does look that bad 😂
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Lady Une coming over to chat with the guys, along with Doctor J (knowing very well both Heero and Duo hate him 😂)
This was around Christmas time so it doubles as an anniversary of the Eve Wars as well as the Mariemaia War. It is also why Selena is in her cute Christmas dress ❤.
Tumblr media
Relena doing her bit as peacekeeper and intervening between Dorothy and Mariemaia. Party crisis averted.
Tumblr media
Mission Complete.
Also lol at Heero's "Dr J" thought bubble. "Why is he even here?".
Dr J is just talking about Christmas, probably trying to explain that that's why he's there and no alterior motives like, a new mission for Heero after all these years (The answer will be no x).
Duo has the Politcal speech bubble, thinking about how this campaign party went surprisingly well.

The Big Gundam Watch, Part 10: Mobile Suit Gundam Wing: Endless Waltz
Tumblr media
As mentioned at the end of my post about the second half of Gundam Wing, the word on the street was that the sequel movie was Actually Good For Real. Naturally, I was skeptical: even with the context provided in response to that post about the nightmarish production schedule and sponsor requirements the series had, it was still the least good experience I've had with a Gundam show to date. The theatrical format can also be a double-edged sword if you don't know how to budget your time wisely, and quite frankly, I didn't have much faith in the Gundam Wing production staff to make a cohesive 90 minute movie after they had so much trouble with a 49 episode TV series.
I'm happy to report that Endless Waltz was, in fact, pretty damn good. In fact, I'd actually go so far as to say that of the Gundam movies I've reviewed in this format- the others being Char's Counterattack, Narrative, and Hathaway- this was the best! Not only was it a solid action movie with some terrific animation setpieces, it also addressed most of the problems I have with Gundam Wing, making both the setting itself and the movie much stronger.
THE STUFF I LIKED:
Tumblr media
FLASHBACKS. Number one with a fucking bullet: I now have literally any understanding of the motivations for these main characters! And they were all pretty well executed! Trowa's a child soldier! Duo was trying to prevent the original Operation Meteor! Heero is suicidal and traumatized because he botched an attack on a mobile suit production facility and got civilians killed! Wufei... had one too!
I was a little worried about how much money this was going to have, because it was originally a series of OVAs. But that got put to rest when Noin and Sally launched the ITANO CIRCUS PODS followed by reaction shots of Taurus dolls moving at 800 frames per second trying to escape.
Tumblr media
After spending the whole series bitching about how much the Gundams clash with original suits designed for the After Colony timeline, I think the redesigns they got for Endless Waltz finally made me stop being a hater. Especially Wing Zero; who cares how impractical contoured angel wings are, it looks fucking cool, and lends itself to that gorgeous activation sequence.
Tumblr media
On the subject of mobile suits; the Tallgeese III isn't as cool as the Tallgeese- they really fucking nailed that design on the first take- but I was thrilled that when Char Quattro Zechs Milliardo Wind showed up to the fight, it was in a Tallgeese and not the Epyon.
And speaking of redesigns; Trowa got fuckin' yolked. Fuckin' Final Fight Mike Haggar looking motherfucker. I assumed they just bulked up all of the boys, but then one scene later Heero is as scrawny as ever, so they made the conscious choice to have Trowa buff as shit.
Tumblr media
Dorothy showing up for five seconds to insult a bunch of random civilians for being cowards in order to rile them up and haul them over to the site of the conflict to protest Mariemaia's regime in a convoy led by her solid gold truck was perfection.
Tumblr media
A brief return of my favorite version of Heero- sociopath Heero- when Mariemaia tries to taunt him over how indestructible the bunker is and he just goes "okay." and fires the Libra-annihilating gun down at it three times.
I thought Mariemaia and Dekim made a really great and complementary pair of villains. It makes perfect sense that 10 year old would be like "why hasn't anyone just tried being a perfect dictator" before you even factor in the grooming, and Dekim neatly introduces and ties up the whole "Operation Meteor was originally just a space supremacy ploy" idea that was introduced in the last episode of Wing, enhancing it with the added wrinkle that the Barton family were the equivalent of the Zabis in the Universal Century.
If you read my last post, you may think I'd be down on Relena abandoning her position of Total Pacifism. Instead, it actually feels like a natural development: the formation of the Earth Sphere Unified Nation was a unilateral agreement by all mankind that peace was what they wanted, so her goal of Peace via Pacifism was effectively achieved! But in the face of a group that would threaten that accomplishment for the sole purpose of self-interested domination, there's literally nothing to do but resist. And it's still optimistic because it flies in the face of the conventional, cynical wisdom of "good times create weak men create hard time create strong men create good times...", which is what Dekim was counting on.
Tumblr media
THE STUFF I LIKED LESS:
Tumblr media
The role of “Big Boss from Metal Gear Solid, but fucking stupid” is now being played by Wufei, who I literally groaned at when he appeared to defend Dekim from Trowa. I get it; they needed to have a cool mobile suit for Heero to fight against since Mariemaia and Dekim weren't pilots, and Wufei fits the bill since it's totally believable he's not over his tsundere mancrush on Treize, but the fact that his Category 6 MUH JUSTICE moment is stopped by Heero reminding him that civilians exist was just too much.
The idea that the Gundams were at a disadvantage against the horde of regular grunt suits because they were going for non-lethal takedown was charming, but also, like... Duo says that and then it cuts to Heavyarms fucking unloading. But maybe they were rubber bullets so it's fine, it's fine, don't worry about it.
Lady Une once again uses her unaddressed space-time warping powers to gain access to Mariemaia's neigh-upon impregnable underground bunker just in time to save her and Relena from falling rubble. I actually scanned back through the video to make sure I didn't miss something: we see her outside meeting with Zechs as he lands the Tallgeese III, and then the next time we see her she somehow made it into the compound and disabled every guard in one of the rooms. How?
Listen, Endless Waltz is a very elegant title and should make sense to basically everyone if they think about it even just a little bit. It was not necessary to explain it out for the audience.
Tumblr media
OTHER OBSERVATIONS:
There were a number of lines and scenes in this movie that gave me a hearty, sensible chuckle, so I'm just gonna run down the ones that really stuck with me:
The way the dub narrator says "at the end of an... intricate battle" is the funniest and most polite way to describe the conflict of Gundam Wing.
“He’s pretty smart for a person who was elected democratically”
"I wouldn't be surprised if one day he starts saying that his lack of effort is the reason there's no air in outer space"
Zech's little book he's reading while waiting for someone to pick him up:
Tumblr media
Not meant to be funny, but I love that the emblem of Mariemaia's regime is just "what if instead of an eagle holding a swastika, it was an eagle holding an M stylized like the one on Super Mario's hat":
Tumblr media
Choosing to show Zechs and Noin reuniting and riding off to Mars together to start a new life as unromantically as possible by just having them play chess:
Tumblr media
Speaking of Zechs and Noin going to Mars: I enjoyed this so much I looked at a summary for the sequel to this, the light novel series Frozen Teardrop, and then determined I will not be looking at anything else related to Frozen Teardrop.
Amogus.
Tumblr media
IN CONCLUSION:
This was an incredibly pleasant surprise. Taken as a complete package, Endless Waltz seriously elevates Gundam Wing. It does so much groundwork for that series that I think you could make a compelling argument to skip Wing altogether and just watch Endless Waltz. Personally, though, I would just amend whether or not I'd recommend Gundam Wing to "if you're going to watch it, you absolutely MUST watch Endless Waltz, too, no matter how you felt about it".
Tumblr media
Next up: I'm taking another break, as in the time it took me to watch through all of Gundam Wing I added a ton of other anime (and video games (and model kits)) to my to-do list. But when I do come back to this, we're going backwards and then sticking to chronologically-by-release order, starting with Mobile Suit Gundam 0080: War in the Pocket.

And the ending to Endless Waltz from the obscure Endless Waltz manga. One thing I really like about this is Heero and Relena shown to have the same height. It keeps in line with what we saw in the show and further reinforces the notion that those two are equals, the two sides of the same coin and see eye to eye.
What I don’t like is the English translation. It’s so bad...!

I could not decide on a caption for this set. Please pick your favorite or add your own:
“This Christmas season, won’t you spare a thought for your new eight-year-old Supreme Overlord?”
“Kris Kringle has held us in his iron fist too long! It is time for a new redhead to assume the mantle of holiday figurehead!”
“The cookies that would otherwise be wasted on Santa must be sent to the Barton Secret Bunker, care of Mariemaia Barton...”

'She Spun Gold Thread and Rebellion'
More artwork I did for the recent Rhythm Generation zine. :) This was meant to be a simple piece on the Rumplestiltskin story but ended up occupying a lot of space in my brain re: fibrecraft and feminism, and the actual historic importance of work which is now devalued. :/ Anyway. art.

last minute as usual...
(Posting just in time for me to run and catch my flight home. I’ll try to be more responsible next year @gwsecretsantaexchange... And I’ll try to get the AO3 stuff sorted later.)
Dear Santa, For Christmas I would really love a fic involving the following: Triton Bloom and Duo Maxwell in any situation ever OR Homey scenes of any of the GW parents tucking in their children. (e.g. The Peacecrafts tucking in Milliardo, Relena, or both, The Darlians tucking in Relena, The Blooms tucking in Cathy or Triton, someone tucking in Mariemaia, etc.) OR Someone having to defuse a bomb to save Christmas.
A/N: It’s a bit of a hodge-podge, but Merry Christmas @helmistress ! I must apologise for the one-dimensional villains, though. I had some vague ideas for them, but somehow they never materialized on the page. :-/
The house was nearly dark when Une opened the door and stepped inside, but not entirely. The twinkle of Christmas lights lit a path into the living room. And there, she was gratified to find a small plate piled high with gingersnaps (her favorite) and a glass of eggnog -- she sniffed it -- generously spiked with rum.
"Don't mind if I do," she murmured, helping herself to a sip and a snap. After all, it was just after midnight, which made it technically Christmas Day. And after the night she'd had, she felt she deserved a treat.
She toed off her shoes then and there, allowing herself a moment to rub her aching feet and wiggle her toes into the carpet before beginning the trudge upstairs in just her nylons.
At the top of the stairs she paused. There was a light on in Mariemaia's bedroom, spilling out from beneath the door. And, she observed, a flicker of movement. Tutting to herself, she opened the girl's door with the same quick efficiency she might employ in enemy territory and was rewarded with the sight of wide blue eyes blinking innocently up at her.
"And just what are you doing still awake?" Une asked her.
"Reading."
Mariemaia raised her book to demonstrate, a thick hardback that she had to hold open with both hands. Une recognized the tome. It wasn't even fiction, but one of her old textbooks from the Academy. What's more, clearly illustrating that Mariemaia knew full well she was breaking the rules, her reading light was a flashlight propped up against her pillow.
"It's past your bedtime."
Mariemaia had the good grace to look at least a little guilty. "I was conducting an experiment." Une raised her eyebrows expectantly; that promised to be an interesting explanation, at least. "Yesterday at school the other children were discussing Santa Claus. They really seemed to think he might be real. So I wanted to find out if I'd be able to hear if he arrived. And also… I couldn't sleep."
Une understood the subtext of that sentence.
She slipped into the room and took a seat on the edge of Mariemaia's mattress, easing the textbook from the little girl's grasp. "Well, this should certainly do a good job of sending you off to Nod, at least," she acknowledged, skimming the dry paragraphs of military history Mariemaia had been poring over. She wouldn't vouch for the dreams they might induce, though. Setting the book aside, she suggested, "How about a real bedtime story?"
"Do you know any?"
Once, such a disbelieving tone, even from a child, might have stung her. On other days, it might have provoked her. But Une was a different person now. She teased back, "I said it was a real story, didn't I?"
"All right," Mariemaia agreed, settling down into her bed, "I'm listening."
"Once upon a time, there was a…lady knight."
"Oh, no thank you," said Mariemaia, "I'm not interested in knights anymore. I'd much rather hear about what kept you at work so late."
Une let out a tired sigh, but there was an indulgent smile at her lips. "Fine, then," she agreed, "that's what you shall hear."
*
"Man," said Duo, "we just cannot catch a break, can we?"
"It seems not," Trowa agreed. A short distance away from where they huddled loomed the Foreign Ministry building, the subject of their current scrutiny and ire.
Duo scuffed his foot along the ground, kicking up a tiny cloud of de-icing grit from the pavement which drifted over to settle on the patchy snow. He heaved a sigh, his breath frosting in the cold air. "You know, just once, I'd like to have a quiet Christmas. Give that a try. Is that so much to ask?"
Beside him, Trowa raised a hand to scratch his nose, covering a discreet smile. "How come you joined Preventers, then?"
"Sure, sure, real funny. It's just there's this thing I've heard of, called a day off. Apparently people are supposed to have them from time to time. They're supposed to be pretty nice."
"Well, look at it this way. The sooner we take care of this, the sooner you can get back to your…quiet Christmas."
"All right. Run me through it again; how many guys do we think are in there?"
"Intel reckoned about twenty-five, but potentially more than a hundred possible hostages. It's not clear how many people had already left for the holidays. Communication so far has been limited, which doesn't bode well for negotiations having a positive outcome. Most of what we know came from a single security guard before contact got cut off."
"So what's the plan, then, hotshot?"
"Une wants us to sit tight until backup gets here."
"She does, huh? You think she actually expects us to follow those orders?"
Trowa met Duo's eye, a tiny smirk curling at his lip. "Not if she's smart."
"Now that's more like it," Duo crowed with satisfaction. "So come on, what's the plan? You must have one, you're always Mr Prepared."
"I found out about this situation at exactly the same time you did," Trowa reminded him. "There hasn't been a whole lot of time to plan."
"So what are we gonna do then? Make like Heero and wing it?" There was a pause, followed by stifled laughter. Trowa was bent double, literally slapping his thigh with mirth, something which up until that moment Duo had thought to be only a figure of speech. He shook his head. "Really, Tro? Today's the day you develop a sense of humor? That must have been the worst joke I ever made."
Trowa straightened slowly, dabbing his eyes as he recovered from his fit of laughter. "I don't know, I thought it was pretty good."
"Yeah, and I'm sure Une would be thrilled to see you're taking this so seriously."
"I'm serious," Trowa insisted, sounding vaguely affronted at the implication he was anything but. He made a production of arranging his face back into something more appropriate, more serious, and reached into his bag. "There is one other thing. The security guard we were in contact with said the intruders got in under cover as carolers. They were all wearing these." He withdrew a lumpy, festively wrapped bundle and tossed it in Duo's direction.
Frowning, Duo tore into the paper to reveal a sweater much like the one Trowa was wearing, but in red, and patterned with Christmas baubles. "…I don't get it."
Trowa snorted. "It's a Christmas present. For you. From me."
"Oh man. Trowa, I mean, I'm touched. But I feel bad, I didn't know we were doing presents. I didn't get you anything."
"Hey now, that's not true. You gave me your cold just last month, don't you remember?"
"Heh. Yeah, well, in fairness that was more of a re-gift. See, Wufei gave it to me first."
"You also bought me a sandwich a few days ago. And a beer the last time we went out after work."
"What, are you keeping a running tally or something?"
Trowa ducked his head, hiding a grin. "No. I just thought I should…let you know it was appreciated. It's been good this past year, working with you and Wufei. It's been…nice. Having friends."
Duo rubbed a hand across the back of his neck, looking from the sweater to Trowa and back again. "Yeah," he agreed, "it has been nice. Better than I thought it would be, working for Preventers."
"I got gifts for everybody, though, so don't let it go to your head; it's not like you're so special."
Duo laughed and pulled the sweater over his head. "Sure. Of course. You know, it's gonna be a job getting into the Foreign Ministry building wearing this."
"I reckon you're up for the challenge."
*
Trowa didn't try very hard to hide his presence in the Foreign Ministry building, but he didn't have to: the halls were deserted. He had at least expected a little more difficulty from the initial entry, but a broken window had taken care of that for him. The sound hadn't even attracted any notice. He had to think that meant the intruders had, for some reason, decided to completely disable the security mechanisms rather than turn them to their own advantage. That, he thought, was a good place to start. Reactivating the cameras would give him an overview of the whole building and fill in the intel which had been sorely lacking.
Rounding the next corner provided his first encounter with the enemy: Two men, about five meters away, looking very surprised to see him.
The corridor didn't offer much in the way of high ceilings, but no matter. A cartwheeling target was still more difficult to hit than a stationary one, and let him build up some decent momentum.
"What the -"
"Shoot him!"
Too late.
A punch to the solar plexus sent one of the two men reeling, which let him take out the legs of the other. He relieved the downed man of his gun in time to turn it on his compatriot just as the other man was recovering. "Drop it," Trowa told him. The wheezing man did so, his gun clattering to the floor. Trowa retrieved that weapon also, securing it in his waistband.
Then, from behind him, back the way he'd come, he heard something. It was there and gone before he could identify it. Footsteps? But when he looked back, no one was there.
Frowning and vaguely unsettled, he turned his attention back to the two men in front of him. "Where are the hostages being held?"
*
Duo had a passing familiarity with the layout of the Foreign Ministry building, sufficient enough to find his way to two or three key locations blindfolded if he had to. One of those key locations was the break room on the third floor. Throwing open the door, he was unsurprised to find a man wearing a sweater much like his own pouring himself a cup of sludge-like black coffee. Looked like Trowa had been right about the Christmas jumpers.
"Hey, pal, fix me a cup of that stuff, too, huh? I could use a pick-me-up."
The guy cocked his head at Duo uncertainly. "…Vic?"
"Uh, no," Duo admitted. He let his switchblade flick out into his hand and grinned. "But how about you tell me your name?"
The guy's face went white and the mug in his hand dropped, cracking against the countertop on its way to the floor, where it shattered and sent shards of porcelain scattering with a flood of coffee. He started to scramble away, but his feet slipped on the wet floor, and then Duo was right there -- with a friendly supportive arm thrown over his shoulders and a knife at his throat.
"Hey now, what's the rush? We're just getting to know each other. I want to know all about this sweet little setup of yours and just what you're planning to accomplish here."
"I… I…"
"See, what gets me is that we worked hard for this peace, you know? We earned it. So I really want to know what makes you think it's a fine thing for you to walk in here and try to trash everything. And you think I'm just gonna let you?"
Suddenly, a strangled scream echoed from out in the hall, then cut off as abruptly as it began.
The other guy's eyes met Duo's and his face seemed to get even paler, if that was possible.
"Wait here," Duo told him and backstepped his way into the corridor, leaning out and checking both directions. Nothing. Deserted.
He always did have the feeling the Foreign Ministry building might be haunted. Shrugging, he stepped back into the lounge.
*
Duo and Trowa arrived at the central lecture theatre at roughly the same time. "Fancy meeting you here," Duo remarked.
"You got blood on your new sweater," Trowa pointed out, doing an admirable job of looking as if that hurt his feelings.
"It's not blood, it's spilled coffee. It'll wash out. And you're looking a little mussed there yourself. What happened to your hair?"
"I don't want to talk about it." The intrigued look Duo levelled at him promised that he would be talking about it very soon. Trowa cleared his throat. "By my reckoning we're expecting ten to fifteen combatants inside. Our priority needs to be getting the civilians evacuated without casualties. We should try to draw fire to ourselves."
"Yeah, yeah," Duo muttered with a distinct lack of enthusiasm. "Two of us against fifteen guys with guns, I'm not liking our odds. Even if they are crap shots. I was hoping we might be able to get some leverage or something, but I still don't even understand what these morons want."
"People don't always have clear motivations. But we can still make a difference here."
"Yeah," Duo agreed, "let's go."
They burst through the doors and separated, diving for cover. There were two men and a woman on guard in their section of the theatre who sent up the alarm. There wasn't much room for maneuver; they couldn't take cover amongst the seats -- the skeleton staff of the Foreign Ministry that had the misfortune of working over Christmas were lined up there in the central rows. Keeping up a steady stream of curses under his breath, Duo managed to take down the man nearest him before getting cornered behind a support column. Trowa appeared to be…somehow using the other man as a springboard in an effort to launch himself up towards the balcony level.
Suddenly a voice from the front of the stage cut through the chaos. "STOP!"
By that point Trowa was midway through the air, so there wasn't a lot he could do to slow down, but remarkably, everyone else in the room went still and there was a blissful moment in which -- for once -- no one was trying to kill them. Duo risked a peek around his column towards the stage.
There was someone else down there, approaching what was obviously the leader of this sorry band of misfits.
It was…
It was Une!
"Not one more step," the man in charge warned her, "I have this place rigged to blow!" He triumphantly displayed the detonator in his hand, with his thumb hovering warningly near the button.
Duo sucked in an alarmed breath.
Up above, without making his movements too obvious, Trowa began to cast about, looking for the potential bombs.
Une was not deterred. True to the man's command, she didn't take a single step -- it was more of a flying tackle. They went down in a splay of limbs and Duo and Trowa watched, impressed, as, following a brief scuffle, Une emerged from the fray, detonator in hand.
She stood up and calmly brushed herself off before announcing, "If everyone could please make their way to the nearest exit…" Then her eyes found Trowa and Duo's and narrowed. "Barton, Maxwell. Your orders were to wait for backup."
"Yeah, but we didn't think you were going to be the backup!" Duo protested. "We were just expecting some doofus."
"Sorry, commander," Trowa spoke over him, offering a crisp salute.
Looking at the orderly procession of people departing the lecture hall, Duo whistled. "Damn," he said, "looks like you just saved Christmas!"
*
"And that," Une concluded, smoothing the covers up under Mariemaia's chin, "is why I'm home so late."
Mariemaia blinked sleepily up at her. "It was a very good story, but did that really happen? How do you know what Trowa and Duo were doing before you arrived?"
Une chuckled. "Is questioning your guardian's honesty the best way to get onto Santa's nice list?"
"No, but… why would I be on there anyway? Besides," Mariemaia added defiantly, "I don't believe he's real anyway. The people at school are all mistaken." She looked up at her guarian anxiously. "Aren't they, Une? He's just… a trick, to make sure little kids behave."
Une found herself unsure of what to say. But it was obvious what all this talk of Santa Claus stood in for, so perhaps it was best if she simply went for the root. "The events of last Christmas," she said, "were not your fault. And while it is important to reflect on our past actions, we cannot allow ourselves to be defined by them forever. We must allow ourselves to grow past them. Do you understand? I know that you're sorry for what happened-"
"But that's just it, though," Mariemaia interrupted with a cry. "I'm not sure that I am sorry!"
"What do you mean?"
"If Dekim and I hadn't… If we hadn't fought, then I wouldn't be here with you."
The way Une's heart caught in her chest at those words was unexpected, but enjoyable. She reached for Mariemaia's hand and gave it a squeeze. "That's different," she said. "I'm not sorry you're here with me either. I'm very glad. And I wouldn't change that for all the world."
At last, Mariemaia appeared mollified. She settled back against her pillow and smiled. "Goodnight, Une. Merry Christmas."
"Goodnight." Une leaned in and pressed a kiss to Mariemaia's forehead, expecting her daughter's eyes to be shut and ready for sleep when she drew back. But instead, the little girl was once more looking at her suspiciously.
"Is that eggnog on your breath?" she accused. "I left that out for Santa."

Frozen Teardrop translation
Another chapter done! Most of this chapter exists online already but there was a large section that must have been added in the volumes to connect it to the overarching story, so I started with this chapter. Translation under the read more:
Edited: Some names have been changed for accuracy.
Edits include: Noinheim to Neuenheim, Herve Honneger to Elv Onegell, MO-W to MO-VII, Disneuf to Dixneuf.
Volume 6: Nocturne of Grief
Chapter: Interlude of the Heart/ Preventer 5 (Part 1)
AC-196 December 26
The sudden sound of a gunshot rang. Dekim Barton was shot through the back of his head and collapsed. The shot came from the adjutant who stood behind him.
“The rebel has been executed…. I want to apologize for the betrayal to His Excellency Treize.”
“Mariemaia, hold on!” Relena Darlian held the body of the fallen girl.
“I was wrong… I’m sorry.” Mariemaia continued to apologize and smile despite the pain from the shot she received to the chest.
The sound of a music box playing could be heard from somewhere. In fading consciousness, Mariemaia felt that the tone was wrapped in a lullaby-like tenderness.
“That music box is playing such a kind song… I feel like I can hear the voice of my mother.”
It was Heero Yuy, who was covered in wounds, who had brought the music box.
“I’ll ease your pain now.”
“Heero!” Relena was astonished as she shouted the name of the Wing Gundam Zero pilot who had just been shot down earlier. He had a music box playing Endless Waltz, a pistol in his other hand, and a finger on the trigger.
“…...Thank you,” Mariemaia said as she quietly closed her eyes.
Heero aimed at Mariemaia. The music box slowly slows down the rhythm as he pulls the trigger without hesitation. The sad but gentle tune, Endless Waltz, had come to an end.
It was a shocking sight. However, Mariemaia was safe, Heero’s gun had no bullets in it. Mariemaia had only just lost consciousness.
“I’ve killed Mariemaia.” Heero said quietly, slowly lowering his gun-holding hand, having completed the mission. “I won’t kill anyone anymore…. I don’t have to kill.”
As soon as he had said that, a boy who had abandoned his mask of weapons, collapsed.
“…Heero” Relena caught him and held him to her chest. The boy had his eyes closed and there was a look of relief on his face.
He slept with an innocent face that had never been seen before.
Lady Une had soldiers carry out Mariemaia.
“There’s still hope for her! Take her to the medical room, immediately!”
Relena picked up the still-stopped music box from the sleeping Heero’s hand and gently stroked his hair.
“It’s over… finally”
Her tears fell from her eyes and spilled onto the music box.
AC - 197 January
Peace has returned to the people and Mariemaia has been taken into the care of Lady Une and is spending her days living a quiet life.
And in the history of the Earth Sphere the existence of the weapons called Mobile suits including Gundam where never seen again.
“This time, it’s the last time, my partner…. Duo said with a satisfying look and the Gundam’s self-destruct device held in his hand.
He felt he there was no need for the Gundams anymore. Both Trowa and Quatre agreed with him. The three nodded to each other and pressed the self-destruct switches. Gundam Deathscythe Hell, Gundam Heavy Arms and Gundam Sandrock exploded one after another.
“Now I’m back to No-Name…” Trowa muttered while watching the smoke rise.
Quatre immediately disagreed.
“Is it ok to still call you Trowa, Trowa…?”
“Names are given to you by others” Duo told Trowa. “And we have homes to go back to now, right?”
“Oh…, In the colonies, there is a circus hut where Catherine is waiting for me. There I would be called Trowa Barton. I would no longer be No-Name. When I go back to the hut, I might call Catherine ‘sister’,” Trowa thought.
When Quatre returns to space, various jobs remain as an heir of the Winner family.
“Before that, I have to meet everyone in the Maganac squad that has returned from Venus,”
Although he doesn’t really like his position as the head of the Winner family.
“Is it possible to run away again?” He quietly thinks to himself.
Duo will enjoy life just living day by day while taking care of the junk shop.
“I still haven’t abandoned my desire to do something for the sake of someone else’s happiness. This time let’s try something new at the shop… It may be surprisingly profitable.”
The three boys filled with those thoughts returned to space.
***
“This insane era has come to an end, Nataku…Meilan”
Wufei stood in his hometown on the grounds of the Long clan and pressed the self-destruct switch.
“Please rest peacefully…. This will allow you to spend your time in peace too.”
The Altron Gundam disappeared in the flash of the explosion. Wufei stared into the flames for some time.
“Well, what should I do from now on?”
Just as he was thinking of that Sally Po appeared from behind Wufei.
“Hey, Wufei…”
Wufei looked back.
“Noin and Zechs have gone missing… How about working for me?”
“Is it as a fire extinguisher preventer?” Wufei said. “Sure, okay.”
AC – 197 February
Interplanetary aircraft are heading for Mars. Among them were Noin and Zechs.
“Are you sure? Terraforming is not yet complete.”
Mars terraforming has been unprecedentedly advanced due to the proliferation of ‘Europa algae’ since the resource satellite MO-VII fell into the southern hemisphere ten years ago in AC187.
It seems that an atmosphere close to that of Earth has formed, but no one could live there without a helmet yet so people can only currently live in the para terraforming domes. No immigration or city planning has been carried out yet, government agencies are non-existent, and the delay is incomparable to the time when the colonies where built.
At this point, the reality is that Mars is not a place where humankind lives.
“What Relena is trying to do; it won’t be easy……..”
Zechs thoughts were of his sister while in pursuit of her ideals.
That’s why a dead man like myself would be perfect for this job… Noin, I don’t expect you to come along with me.”-
Noin held her index finger up to his lips and whispered. “Don’t make me say the same thing twice, Zechs….”
Zechs was silent.
In fact, Noin had mixed feelings. Her father, Nove Neuenheim, was the first proponent of this Martian globalization program. Noin had a history of fleeing to Earth, hating her father who was a profit-orientated utilitarian. She had only bitter memories of Mars. Still, she didn’t hesitate to act with her beloved Zechs.
And this was also the mission of the Preventers. Mars cannot be left as it is by Nove Neuenheim.
On the other hand, Zechs was worried about the existence of Gundam Epyon still hidden on Mars. The aircraft currently remained with Zech’s old friend, Major Elv Onegell.
“I didn’t dispose of Epyon because the worst may still happen, but I now believe it should be blown up like the other Gundam pilots did. No, I must.”
No more words were needed between them anymore. The new land on Mars may be harsh, but with the strong feelings between the two of them, it could be a paradise.
AC-197 March
During this period, Relena Darlian resigned from her previous post as Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs and spent peaceful time as a civilian in the Earths sphere, without playing an active role in the administration center of the unified nation.
She also protected Heero, and she devotedly cared for him until his injuries had healed. It may have been only around this time that there was happiness for both Relena and Heero.
A few months passed in an instant.
However, Relena wasn’t just spending time indiscriminately. She had announced her candidacy for her next presidential election. She has three more years to go for the current term of President of the United Nations and by that time she will be 20 years old. She wants to fully master politics and economics to help her solve all problems that the people on Earth have.
She doesn’t care at all about public criticism that she may be too young. In that sense, her self-confidence was unwavering.
“Don’t worry,” Heero said “Old politicians should have had enough experience, but they never reflected the will of the people.”
“Yes… that’s right”
Moreover, the difficult problems that politics should solve are piling up. Postwar compensation, employment, economic recovery, technology development and the Mars Terraforming Project.
And to maintain a permanent peace.
Heero is also supporting Relena, though he couldn’t put it into words.
“Stand as Darlian instead of Peacecraft.”
He believed that the name of Peacecraft was too strong to be a symbol of peace and was not suitable for a politician.
The depth of Heero, who has few words, cannot be easily guessed by ordinary people.
“I will try”
When she had decided to do so, Heero had left somewhere. Relena had no choice but to tell her determination to the teddy bear that Heero gave her on her birthday a year ago….
“Please keep an eye on me.”
Politicians need two talents apart from basic things such as ideas and attitudes. The talent to become a politician and the talent to continue to be a politician. These are the two points that Relena, who aims to become the president of the Earth Sphere Unified Nation, lacks. She had to prepare various events to bring these talents to fruition.
There is no point in just listening to the opinions of supporters, you need to know the values of more people. Relena decides to hold her birthday party at her former castle, Sanc Kingdom Castle. It was less of a glamorous social gathering, if anything, it would be better to call it a debate, a study session or a ‘thinking about peace’ symposium. The period was set for three days which is unusual for her birthday party.
It spans three days from April 7th, the day after her birthday April 8th, to the 9th the next day.  By the way April 7th is when the legendary peace leader Heero Yuy of the colonies was assassinated (AC175), and the day when the Gundams descended to the earth for ‘Operation Meteor’ (AC195).
AC-197 April 07
That day, the earth was very quiet. Peacekeeping by the fire extinguisher ‘Preventor’ seemed to be working well.
Especially here in the Nordic Sanc Kingdom, it can be said that nothing happens. So, it was no wonder that Relena’s seventeenth birthday party on that day would end in peace.
“Thank you everyone for joining us today.” Relena, in a neat white dress, gave a polite greeting to the nearly 200 ladies and gentlemen who gathered in the hall.
It’s a humble and modest birthday party for former World Head of the State, Queen Relena. There is no sign of Heero Yuy at the party. Her brother Milliardo isn’t here either.
Relena’s close friends have gathered here but she also invites politicians and former Alliance soldiers who will eventually become her political opponents. Friends of St. Gabriel’s Academy, her mother Mareen Darlian, Dorothy Catalonia who has a good understanding of perfect pacifism, Lady Une who is the Director of the Preventors. There are also figures such as Mariemaia sitting in a wheelchair while her wounds are still healing. Each face is full of peaceful relief.
They seemed to believe in lasting peace that would continue in the future. The gentle spring sunshine shining through the window enveloped such people.
Suddenly, an armed group of 20 people wearing camouflage combat uniforms broke in through the door. They all were carrying a machine gun in both hands and covered their faces with sunglasses and a scarf.
Women started screaming and the men shielded them. Some of them tried to resist. However, when a submachine gun held by an armed officer was raised overhead, an inorganic mechanical sound was heard, a gorgeous chandelier on the ceiling was shattered into pieces, and countless shards of glass were hurled at people. The intention of the group was shown only by this action and the venue became silent.
“Who are you people!” said Relena resolutely.
None of the men armed with machine guns answered the question. Silence was the eloquent manifestation of intention for them.
“Are you not going to respond?”
Relena got a glance of the face of a man with long blonde hair and sunglasses, who seemed to be the leader of the group. She instinctively thought his face resembled that of her brother, Milliardo. She, of course, quickly realized that he was a different person entirely. But she didn’t realize at the time that it was intentional.
It was only a few hours later that the statements of the armed groups were notified to the Presidential Palace of Brussels.
“We Epyon de Telos, the next government, occupy the Sanc Kingdom Castle. Our requirements are as followed: To release or companions who are in captivity, Publish Confidential Matters No. 203-5 and immediately dissolve the relevant government agency. As a hostage ransom, pay us the same amount as the budget for 196 and 197 spent on the government agencies set forth in the preceding paragraph. If these requests are not fulfilled within 72 hours. The United Alliance’s ‘Nuclear Bomb’ we planted will explode.”
***
Confidential matter No.203-5 describes the process of establishing a special agency to prevent conflicts as well as the details of their activities. And that institution was none other than the ‘Preventor’. Of course, the spending of the national budget on this secret intelligence agency is done in secret. Exposing it to the public, informing the general public of the Earth Sphere, and dissolving this organization is equivalent to losing the way of ‘peacekeeping’ in the future. What’s more, they couldn’t afford to pay the ransom.
Chang Wufei, who decided to refuse the request, issued a special order to the Preventors.
“Take the ‘nuclear bomb’ from the terrorists and rescue the hostages—”
As a result of investigations, the ‘nuclear bomb’ in question turned out to be genuine. It was a narrow area limited nuclear blast device for cutting and mining used by resource satellites in the asteroid zone between Mars and Jupiter. This bomb has very little residual radioactivity, however, if used on earth even in a small area, there is no doubt that the Sanc Kingdom will instantly be leveled to the ground.
“It's by no means a forgotten weapon of the United Alliance. This may be intentional political propaganda.”
Wufei nodded when he heard Sally Po’s report.
“I see”
He was unprecedentedly calm.
“Is it ‘heavenly deception’? …. It seems they have a different aim.”
“What do you mean?”
“It means to deceive the heavens and cross the sea.”
“So, what is their real purpose?”
Wufei does not give a proper explanation.
“Their aim is to earn time… I’m going to find out their real purpose while were accomplishing this difficult mission.”
Wufei at this time was flying in the airspace of the L-4 colony section on a separate mission.
Meanwhile, Sally was patrolling around the moon. Now that Lady Une, the Director, is held hostage, these are the only Preventor agents who can move freely.
“Although Epyon del Telos claim to be the “next government” they’re definitely terrorists in disguise. We don’t have to free our friends, we don’t have to come forward and we of course, don’t have to prepare the money for the ransom.”
“If we ignore the hostages, I can go settle this right away”
“No… I’ll never allow it.”
“Then better yet, shall I go join forces with the terrorists and take over the Earths sphere?”
Wufei has grown to the point where he can make jokes with a straight face.
“Very funny, what’s another option?”
“Rushing in with force?” Wufei said with cool eyes.
Sally couldn’t think of any other way.
“…..Is that the only option… …”
“Should we call for support immediately?”
“We need to organize an assault team,”
Sally was calculating in her head how many people could be summoned.
“How many people do you need? If you have 48 hours, I can collect about 1000 people.”
“If that is case mushroom clouds will be covering Sanc Kingdom”
“Then I can collect 500 people in 24 hours.”
“I don’t need that many people.”
The faces of people Wufei can rely on came to his mind.
“Five people are enough, including me…”
Sally was amazed and asked again.
“Five people? Only five people?”
“It may take some time, but I’ll tell you where to find them…”
Sally finally understood who those five people where.
“Because they are quite widespread, I’ll help you too.”
“Okay… I’ll meet them in person and ask for their cooperation.”
“Otherwise, we won’t have enough time.”
***
A few hours passed, Sally visited Duo Maxwell, one of Wufei’s nominees. The place she was told to go to was a junk shop in the L-2 colony section.
“He’s not here… …” A girl named Hilde Schbeiker answered with a look of loneliness on her face.
She looked down and continued her words.
“He just went out as usual, and hasn’t come back for a while now…”
Sally couldn’t find the words to comfort Hilde.
“The boy you like has left a hole in your heart..”
As a Preventor she felt that it was irresponsible, sneaky, and the worst thing to say but she couldn’t help but think that. In the end Sally left without saying anything. And as it was, she went to another place she had heard of from Wufei.
“If he isn’t there, another possibility is where you can see the moon.”
The moon seen from the colonies feels like a very ruthless world of death. Is it because the ‘Grim Reaper’ still likes such a scene? The place Sally went to was the outer wall near the spaceport.
Duo in an Astro suit sat down gazing at the moon. His figure was dragging such a lonely shadow, as Sally had also noticed back on the Peacemillion.
“Nostalgic, isn’t it…? His voice sounded empty somehow.
It was the first time in three months that Sally and Duo had met.
“I have a job that I would like to ask your help for”
Duo said plainly looking at the moon. “Hey, I’m sorry but it sounds like a hassle.”
Sally smiled at him and whispered fascinatingly.
“The rewards are good,” she knew that Duo, a ‘Shinigami’, often just wants ‘rewards’ as an excuse.
***
On the top floor of the Winner Trading Company in the L-4 Colony, Quatre Raberba Winner was busy at the office desk with the company president’s job. He looks through the approval documents for this term and signs his approval. Such a simple task was nothing more than a pain for him.
Quatre was brilliant in everything he did, but he ran into something like a wall that not even company management could overcome.
“I don’t have to do this so why not get someone else to do it instead?”
Quatre had the option of “do nothing and leave it to his subordinates.” However, Quatre who hates giving up more than anyone else, worked hard.
The door of the president’s office opened without someone knocking first.
“Why don’t you close the door as soon as you open it?”
The wind coming from outside was blowing the documents on the desk. Quatre was unusually frustrated.
“It took me three days to read through these documents!”
“It looks like you’re busy.” Wufei said while closing the door.
“W..Wufei..!”
Quatre was delighted with this unexpected reunion and got up from his seat. Wufei folded his arms and looked out the window.
“A little troublesome thing has happened… I thought I’d ask for your help.”
Wufei had a pretty good view from the top floor.
“Troublesome thing?”
“….. I won’t force you; I don’t have the time to convince you either.” Wufei said looking back at Quatre.
“Oh… more than anything else, I’ll go! I’ll do anything!” Quatre replied immediately. “I was just thinking that this isn’t my thing….”
The secretary appeared a while later with new documents needing approval, but Quatre was nowhere to be seen.
***
Wufei found Trowa’s circus hut in the L-3 colony group, he was fortunate to notice it in advance. According to Wufei’s information, he was thought to be in the L-5 colony group. Trowa was about to leave for the farthest reaches of the L-4 colonies and spend idle time there. Quatre and Wufei got the latest information and rushed to Trowa Barton.
“Okay… Let’s go,” Trowa said as he was about to meet them.
There was almost no explanation of what they needed him for yet. Still, Trowa didn’t hesitate.
“Wait Trowa! It’s your turn soon,” Catherine Bloom shouted stopping Trowa.
Wufei greeted her.
“I apologize for not staying for some of that unpalatable soup,”
Wufei wouldn’t have said such things in the past. But he was different in front of Trowa. More than a year ago aboard the Peacemillion, Wufei had said:
“Just say hello… women are more sensitive than you.”
Now he doesn’t keep such things in mind, it’s more like an attack on Trowa. Catherine also has too keen of a sense of smell to not notice the bad soup herself.
Hey! If something happens to Trowa, I’ll give you that soup again!” (Did she realize how bad the soup was?)
Quatre stood between them and showed his watch.
“Let’s hurry. We have less than fifty hours left until the deadline.”
“That’s right…”
Wufei asked for confirmation from Trowa once again.
“Is it really ok for you to join?”
“Don’t worry…”
Catherine was seeing them off.
“She’s just my guardian.”
***
Relena’s birthday, April 8th, ended with almost nothing happening. That time had been spent on the former Gundam Pilots travelling to Earth. However, in a sense this could be called the third ‘Operation Meteor’. They had travelled back and forth between Earth multiple times, but this is the third time they all descended at once. The first is as known and the second is during the battle at Brussels.
AC-197 April 09
Sally and Duo were on a small shuttle descending to Earth.
The two couldn’t find Heero by any means. When this was reported before they entered the atmosphere, Quatre laughed and replied.
“Heero isn’t standing still at a time like this… I’m sure he’ll show up, so don’t worry. Instead, hurry to the meeting place.”
Sally believes in Quatre’s ability to judge the situation. He’ll make it.
“That’s sounds about right when you say it!” Duo next to her was strangely convinced, even though he looked dissatisfied, “He’s crazy about Relena… We’re desperately searching for him, but I don’t think it’s worth it for the profit.”
Sally smiled at the innocence of Duo.
“Ah but this wasteful work is an hourly wage calculation, so I’ll charge you accordingly.”
“Yes, yes.”
When in a difficult battle, the brightness of Duo is a relief. Mysteriously she has hope and for some reason, courage springs forth.
***
Eight hours until the deadline specified by Epyon del Telos ‘The next Government’. A room on a luxury liner in Sanc Kingdom Bay was transformed into a preventor’s operational command room. On the deck, you can overlook Sanc Kingdom Castle. Many other passenger ships and civilian ships were moored in this bay.
“If we fail this mission, not only those in the castle, but also those in this bay will be involved… …”
“It’s a serious responsibility…”
Wufei and Quatre had no choice but to withstand the heavy pressure. They had Trowa explore the area around the castle.
“I tried to go all the way in, but I couldn’t find where the 200 hostages are confined..” Trowa returned, reporting to Quatre. “Surveillance monitors are installed here and there with few blind spots… and 20 armed soldiers are often deployed at a time.”
“Thank you, Trowa.”
In the ever-changing situation, Quatre gathered as much information as possible and devised a hostage rescue operation.
“Without a mortar or tank, it wouldn’t be possible to rush in by force.” Trowa advised, who specializes in flashy combat.
“This time, we will prioritize human life. No one will die. Of course, we will not let them use the nuclear bomb.”

The hostages of Sanc Kingdom Castle were confined in four rooms of 50 people each. Two men with machine guns were watching each room, pointing their muzzles at the hostages and giving a compelling warning that they would “shoot and kill immediately if anyone made any sudden movements”. Apart from that, certain people were taken to underground nuclear shelters. Relena Darlian, her adoptive mother Mareen Darlian as well as her butler Pagan, who believed that protecting Relena and Mareen was the “last indentured servitude”.
“Please believe in my reflexes….”
He was confident that he could steal the machine gun from the two men who were behind him and take Relena and Mareen out of there.
“Even though I’m old, I’ve still got some fight in me.”
“No Pagan… We can’t afford to lose you with frivolous actions.”
“But…”
The party arrives at the underground shelter. What was waiting there was the leader with long blonde hair. Relena was aware from earlier that this man resembled Milliardo.
“Welcome… Relena Peacecraft.”
The man took off his sunglasses and mask. His nose, thin lips and blue eyes, everything was just like Milliardo.
Pagan couldn’t hide his surprise and involuntarily muttered.
“Master Milliardo! How is it? He looks just like your brother.”
“What are you going to do? Who are you?” Relena asked in a calm voice.
“Excuse me… My name in Dixneuf Neuenheim.” The man said with a tone of mockery.
“………”
“Perfect Peace. We are the ones who are trying to bring perfect peace to Earth and Mars.”
“What on Earth will you have us do?”
“We have a program; I want you to start it up.”
Dixneuf presented a small old-fashioned laptop to Relena.
“The password is ‘PEACECRAFTX2HEEROYUY’”
The monitor showed a Norwegian Forrest Cat kitten.
“Meow.” The kitten screamed.
Pagan muttered with terror in his heart when he saw it.
“Sam…”

A VTOL aircraft carrying Duo and Sally landed on the luxury liner.
“Is Heero still not here?” Duo asked, looking at the members who greeted them on the deck.
“No, he’s just arrived,” Quatre replied with a laugh.
The sea surface suddenly rose, and a red aircraft emerged.
“Oh, there’s no way!” Duo was amazed.
“OZ-08MMS, Cancer…” Trowa politely said the aircraft name.
The upper hatch of the Cancer opened and Heero Yuy appeared. He even wore a Preventor’s uniform he had prepared before. The spray of waves wet Heero’s cheeks.
“Am I too late…?” He wiped the moisture on his face with the back of his open right hand.
It was a gesture as if he didn’t want anyone to see his true face.
“No, you came just in time Heero,” Quatre replied immediately.
Duo pointed at the Cancer and protested.
“Hey, isn’t that not allowed? It’s an aircraft that shouldn’t exist on record, isn’t it?”
Sally was just as confused but laughing.
“Hey boss don’t just laugh! Ah you can’t let something like that go unchecked!”
“Stop complaining!” Wufei, with his arms folded, screamed at Duo, then turned away.
“I guess he picked up some wreckage that had sunk to the seabed and reassembled it himself…”
“There’s something wrong with that guy, in any case, crack down on it properly next time!” Duo’s antics never stopped.
“It’s like a crappy used toy just being picked up.”
“But!”
Heero shoots a wire ejector, lets the magnet tip pass straight by Duo’s hair thread, and to the VTOL behind him attaching to the body of the machine.
This made Duo quiet. Heero lightly landed on the deck, winding up the wire. He showed astonishing physical ability as ever. After all, when it comes to silencing Duo, there is no one quite like Heero. Heero looked straight at Quatre ignoring Duo next to him, who was now clenching his teeth.
“Tell me the situation…” Heero said in a calm, cold voice.
