SUNOO : “whats it about?” he looked genuinely so lost when you showed him the tiktok “i kiss your whole face with a lipstick on” trying his hardest to comprehend “wouldn’t that ruin your lipstick”— “yeah sunoo it will but-” takes the lipstick from you and looks at your eyes “can i put it on instead and kiss you” shit 😭 he is cute you almost had a heart attack “sure sunoo here let me apply” puckered his lips and then after that covered your whole face with kisses and gave you the most ridiculously radiant smile you have ever seen

JUNGWON : “okay but give me the lipstick” dumb decision, you thought he might apply the lipstick on himself and kiss you but turns out he pinned you on the sofa and colored your face whole with the lipstick like a crayon and then has the balls to laugh at you because you looked like a ‘pepperoni’ , you didn’t talk to him until he went on his knee and apologized a 100 times xoxo.

NIKI : too excited, like over the top, his feet are not on the ground anymore, honestly you thought he is going to be super sassy about it and deny but he is totally different “can you use the pink one please” sure niki😭 anything for you, extends his face towards you so you have a better excess “on the neck too please babes” he says as he exposes the neck for you to attack, damn niki you are too into it anyways after that he took like 500 pictures and had it as a wallpaper for an embarrassingly long time, he just likes flexing “i look beautiful, kiss me often with lipstick”

The door swings open as I rush inside, and I lock it behind me. I cry and pace in the bus, chewing on my finger while I debate what to do. Slipping my phone from my pocket, I dial Marilyn’s familiar number. The phone rings twice, then she picks up. “I slept with him,” I blurt before I can plan how to explain this whole debacle.

“You’re up early,” I comment, standing, but keeping the rainbow-striped blanket wrapped around me. It trails behind me like a colorful train as I enter the kitchen.

“Call me. Every day,” she says with her voice wavering.

“I promise,” I say, just as emotional. I exit our embrace and loop an arm through one of my backpack’s straps and lift the maroon suitcase. With a final goodbye to Marilyn, I walk to the bus door and begin the next eight weeks of this adventure.

Me: Of course, you have a selective memory, haha.

Jet: Give me a break. I was half-asleep at the time.

I smile at the light coming from my phone, imagining Greyson telling stories about the constellation while Jet falls in and out of sleep. My eyelids droop.

Me: Speaking of. We should be sleeping.

Again, the sweet violent collision of our hands happens, somewhat messy and more akin to a fumble than a tackle, except this time, he keeps a hold of my fingers, lacing them through his own. His skin warms mine and the soft pad of this thumb traces my hand, like his hands were made to hold mine.

Marilyn B. Coleman (March 23, 1934 - June 25, 2013) was a writer and award-winning actress on Broadway, television, and film. She grew up in Philadelphia.

One of her early highlights was entering local talent contests with her brother Fred, who accompanied her on the piano. In one competition, she won the Marion Anderson Award by signing the theme from Madam Butterfly in fluent Italian.

She embarked on an acting career at the Theatre of Living Arts under the direction of Andre Gregory.

PBS made a two-hour documentary film of her walking through the streets of Philadelphia talking to the community and dealing with the various gangs as they highlighted her singing. The documentary titled “Marilyn Coleman’s North Philadelphia” won the Silver Medallion Award.

She studied theatre with renowned director, the late Lloyd Richards, and made her New York Debut at the American Place Theatre in Five On The Black Hand Side, and The Fabulous Marie.

Her Broadway credits include: Ain’t Supposed to Die A Natural Death; What The Wine Sellers Buy, Don’t Get God Started, and Mule Bone. Off-Broadway she was among the early works of the Legendary Negro Ensemble Company in Ododo, The New Federal Theatre in For Colored Girls Who Have Considered Suicide When The Rainbow Is Enuf, and many others.

An award-winning actress, she received the L.A. Critics and Dramalogue Awards for her work in Eden. At the arena stage, in DC she won the Helen Hayes Award for Best Supporting Actress in Jar The Floor which toured in the US and London.

A few of her film and television credits include Looking For Mr. Good Bar, Meteor Man; The Five Heartbeats; CB-4, Menace II Society, Willie Dynamite, Good Times, White Shadow, The Love Boat, Vice Squad, and Designing Women.

She never forgot the community and she became active in writing, directing, and teaching theater arts to the youth in schools, workshops, and churches. Gloss. Lacquer. Varnish. No matter what the package reads, it holds a special place in all of our makeup bags and our cosmetic collections. We buy it by the tube and by the pot. We’ve dabbed, brushed, sponged, and coated our precious pouts with it through the decades.

We stuck it out through the sticky formulas of our youth. We remember the mistake we made sporting our favorite shade on a windy day, only to spend the afternoon peeling our hair free from the stuff. Though we were humiliated at the time, lip gloss—that didn’t stop us from loving you.

We remember fondly our first teenage make out sessions. Recollections of lip gloss flavored like cherry and bubblegum linger longer than our crush—what was his name? We gave up on those relationships years ago, but we just can’t bear to throw out those half-used tubes of fruity nostalgia from high school.

We’ve gone through pots of gloss in every color of the rainbow. We’ve gone to great lengths to achieve the perfect glassy red lips, piling on coats and coats of liquid shine pigment while visions of Marilyn danced in our heads. We popped our gloss to Lil’ Mama, and plumped our pouts with every variety of shellac imaginable. Our lips never looked as full as Angelina’s, but we sure did keep the gloss business afloat with our attempts.

Marilyn B. Coleman (March 23, 1934 - June 25, 2013) was a writer and award-winning actress on Broadway, television, and film. She grew up in Philadelphia. One of her early highlights was entering local talent contests with her brother Fred, who accompanied her on the piano. In one competition, she won the Marion Anderson Award by signing the theme from Madam Butterfly in fluent Italian. She embarked on an acting career at the Theatre of Living Arts under the direction of Andre Gregory. PBS made a two-hour documentary film of her walking through the streets of Philadelphia talking to the community and dealing with the various gangs as they highlighted her singing. The documentary titled “Marilyn Coleman’s North Philadelphia” won the Silver Medallion Award. She studied theatre with renowned director, the late Lloyd Richards, and made her New York Debut at the American Place Theatre in Five On The Black Hand Side, and The Fabulous Marie. Her Broadway credits include: Ain’t Supposed to Die A Natural Death; What The Wine Sellers Buy, Don’t Get God Started, and Mule Bone. Off-Broadway she was among the early works of the Legendary Negro Ensemble Company in Ododo, The New Federal Theatre in For Colored Girls Who Have Considered Suicide When The Rainbow Is Enuf, and many others. An award-winning actress, she received the L.A. Critics and Dramalogue Awards for her work in Eden. At the arena stage, in DC she won the Helen Hayes Award for Best supporting actress in Jar The Floor which toured in the US and London. A few of her film and television credits include Looking For Mr. Good Bar, Meteor Man; The Five Heartbeats; CB-4, Menace II Society, Willie Dynamite, Good Times, White Shadow, The Love Boat, Vice Squad, and Designing Women. She never forgot the community and she became active in writing, directing, and teaching theater arts to the youth in schools, workshops, and churches. Some shit i did as a kid. The snake and twiggy were for painting class in high school. The snake was my color wheel, twiggy, the impressionist painting. Before that i only drew animals with pencil. They all look wonky.
