same anon - i watched little forest a few months ago after reading fish & wild geese, and absolutely loved it. got any recs with a similar vibe? (also, i’ll definitely check out your autumn recs! but alas, i have watched all the ghibli films multiple times over)
Oooooooh ok yeah! Well firstly if you haven't watched the Japanese Little Forest films (summer/fall and winter/spring, I think?) I very much recommend them! They're not quite so narratively cohesive but they're really lovely lyrical little vignettes. Also:
Petite Maman (autumn vibes + slice of life vibes), which is on Hulu.
Tampopo for the food preparation and the vignettes (although this one gets weird). On HBO or the Criteron Channel.
Kaili Blues for being just, weird and lyrical and gorgeous, seriously (it's a little confusing in the first half but it pays off SO nicely in the second half if you just go along with it). This one is free (with a library card) on Kanopy.
Us and Them for themes about homecoming and travel and family. This film also partially inspired F&WG and Mark Lee Ping-Bing's cinematography is simply stellar. And it's on Netflix!
Something by Agnes Varda, honestly. I don't love Vagabond or Cleo that much but her documentaries are lovely and I feel like a vibe match. Faces Places is my favorite, personally. It's also on Kanopy (for free with a library card).

What it is.
Another story of a boring guy with two women that are too good for him pining for him.
What rates it.
Nothing. I hated this film and wish it ended sooner. The cinematography was brilliant, but I wish the talent was used elsewhere.
‘花樣年華' (In the Mood for Love), Wong Kar-wai (2000)
It is a restless moment. She has kept her head lowered... to give him a chance to come closer. But he could not, for lack of courage. She turns and walks away.
