Marsh harrier sketch | Limited edition fine art print from an original drawing. My sketches start life as hand-drawn graphite images made on cartridge paper. I often work on these with charcoal, oil pastel or Caran d'Ache to create the look I'm after. The artwork is then scanned and finessed digitally ready for fine art printing. This process often referred to as Giclée printing uses the highest standard of printing methods to give gallery quality results that maintain all the details of the original sketch. The graphite pencils I use are Faber-Castel, the oil pastels are Sennelier and the china-graph is Caran d’Ache. The inks are pigment based archive quality (100years+). The heavyweight specialist papers I use are of the best professional quality having a wonderful surface designed specifically for fine art drawings and illustrations. Very limited editions with only ten per size printed. All artwork is signed and includes a certificate of authenticity. The A5 are 5.8" x 8.25" (14.8cm x 21cm) The A4 are 8.25" x 11.7" (21cm x 29.8cm) The A3 are 11.7" x 16.5" (29.8 cm x 42cm) The A2 are 16.5" x 23.4" (42 cm x 59.4cm) Frames not included in price. She Glides With Grace. A female Marsh harrier glides over the reeds at sunrise as she looks for prey. A beautiful habitat to see these stunning birds and all the more special during this special time of day where everything looks magical, the first light of day. We headed off to West Sussex last week and were lucky enough to see a fox in the wild at @rspb_love_nature Pulborough Brooks (not our photo - credit to the RSPB). A lovely, healthy-looking creature, it had just nabbed a bird and was looking extremely pleased with itself as it continued to gently bother the bird life fussing around next to Nettley’s Hide. We were then blessed to see a Marsh Harrier from the hide, and also a Red Kite on our drive back to our holiday home. Dramatic skies over St Ouen’s Bay this evening. We had our first beach barbecue of the year. It has been a scorching day at 32C but the evening a classic summer storm came in. We could see it arrive across the bay, one of the advantages of big skies. Slowly the other end of the bay was encased in rain, then the airport disappeared and before we knew it we were being pelted with FAT rain! Luckily we’d packed up and left the beach so we watched the storm from the safety of the car. I drove home in it and I’ve never seen to much surface water, the puddles were fun but visibility was bad and the wind screen wipers were on full and I could still barely see. There was quite a lot of thunder and lightening. Whilst taking these photos we disturbed a pheasant, saw a kestrel hunting and watched a marsh harrier and a buzzard fighting! A Perfect Profile. A marsh harrier, a bird of prey, flying over a great expanse of reedbeds in the mist that descended on this particular cold morning. When I arrived at RSPB Minsmere the weather wasn't looking too great, but I decided to go exploring and see if it was going to dry out at all. It didn't, but the rain was relatively light so I knew once I got home I just needed to dry out my kit and all would be fine. Anyway, I made my way to one of the hides by the lake and got set up in there as it was raining. I waited for 15 minutes and saw a marsh harrier really far away in the distance, just hoping it would fly towards my direction but it didn't unfortunately. The mist made it rather hard to track so I lost sight of it. An hour now went by without any sightings and I was getting worried about the weather and the mist as it could interfere with my shots should I see these birds any closer. I always adapt my settings to the changing light or weather while I wait for that special moment and it always pays off as this beauty flew by from out of nowhere. It was still quite far away but I think I managed a decent shot of this beautiful bird.
