The Notwist - Pick Up the Phone (from Neon Golden) Hitting up some early aughts bands I love today. I was especially enamored with The Notwist’s Neon Golden in 2002. Such a great album! “Pilot” and “One With the Freaks” also great tracks. I remember listening to it over and over that year (and one of the Acher brother’s other band Lali Puna). German indie rock at its finest. They’re still touring and releasing work (last album was 2016). Need to catch up with them.

Acid Pauli - BLD
Acid Pauli is a name synonymous with certain aesthetic towards electronic music culture - both a part of the unhooked generation of that grew up experiencing his revelatory sets at places like Bar 25 and Fusion, and yet deeply rooted in musicality and adventurousness. BLD, the second full album from Martin Gretschmann, (aka Acid Pauli), builds on his already impressive back catalogue which spans back to 2005, and includes a debut album released on Nicolas Jaar’s Clown and Sunset. Over the course of the eight tracks here, Gretschmann explores some of the many facets that have made him one of the most trusted artists in his field. Released on his own (and Nico Stojan’s) label Ouïe - the album is the perfect expression of the imprint’s commitment to diverse, exciting sounds, freed of the conventions of traditional club music. The album covers a number of moods and emotions, from dystopian carnivalesque vibes to moments of high intensity, through to deep melancholia and synth laden ambience. Gretschmann’s well documented love of the sampler shines throughout - tracks are textured and colored with different hues from his extensive sound palette, whether it’s a part of his more psychedelic moments, or concentrated on his innate knowledge of dancefloor dynamics. As such BLD sits together as a complete piece of music - to be relished just as much by blissed out home listeners as the left-field dancers.

Anspieltipps: “DUNKEL”, “DOOF”, “TRISTESSE”, “NOISE”, “ERHABEN” und “OUR BASS PLAYER HATES THIS SONG”.
Enno Bunger - Weiter So!
Grauzone - Der Weg Zu Zweit
Luis Ake - Umweg
Crystal Castles - Black Panther

Kevin & Paul - “Die Wunderbaren Jahre” Putting The Morr Back In Morrissey 2000 IDM
Kevin & Paul is not a duo, but rather one person. That one person is Germany’s Martin Gretschmann, who has a few claims to fame. From 1997 to 2014, he was lead programmer for the German indie rock band The Notwist. During that time, he also fronted an electronic / indie rock project called Console. And as a solo artist, he performs under the name Acid Pauli, producing a variety of electronic subgenres like house, techno, tech house, deep house, and ambient. Needless to say, he’s had his fingers in a lot of pies.
In the year 2000, Gretschmann didn’t release much music (not to say he wasn’t working on anything, but his name wasn’t attached to much that year). Console released two singles, and under the name Kevin & Paul, a name Gretschmann hasn’t used since, he created this nifty IDM track for Berlin indie electronic label Morr Music.
This glacially-paced, progressively building piece of IDM sees Gretschmann mixing a bunch of different blips, ticks, and clicks with a handful of different synth melodies. Beginning with soft, reverberating bass tones, he slowly incorporates minuscule IDM sounds, and then proceeds to insert his chilly synth melodies. One sounds somewhat like a bell and plays leas while the other two complement. Towards the end, the bell synth drops and an icy, eardrum-tickling synth takes its place.
If you’re in America right now, you’re probably freezing your tits off. And lucky for you, this song gives off a freezing tits vibe.

The Notwist (pronunciado /ˈnoʊ.twɪst/).

Acid Pauli – Mainacht
Still hot: Acid Pauli – Mainacht Acid Pauli’s unique brand of organic, psychedelic electronic music has found the perfect home on the label he runs with Nico Stojan. Mainacht, the latest release, sees Martin Gretschmann in playful mood – the title track skips along in a breezy, upbeat fashion, peppered with bass licks, congas and […]

BLD Remixes A Acid Pauli’s second album 'BLD' dropped earlier this year to a rapturous reception. Martin Gretschmann’s trippy opus took in various stops around the musical spectrum, yet remained committed to quality dancefloor tracks that refuse to follow any particular rule book. This collection of remixes of the album's A side (hence the name) only adds to that achievement - bringing yet more new flavours and takes from some of the most exciting names in the underground. 'Abbebe' gets a rework from Sainte Vie who brings his trademark ‘multicultural electro’ sound to the album's opener, and produces an ecstatic mid-paced groover for the heads. Oceanvs Orientalis drops a similarly exciting rerub, finding new angles and dimensions to the track 'Baris'. Tel Aviv’s Red Axes turn up the psychedelica for the duo’s amazing dissection of 'Ayam' - deep sounds immersed in acidic tones and tight-yet- wonky arrangements. Lastly 'Majid' gets the treatment from label co- head Nico Stojan who produces a sleek and spacy remix that will delight the early morning ravers. Ouïe006 12" & digital 17.11.2017 Tracklist: A1. Abbebe (Sainte Vie Remix) A2. Baris (Oceanvs Orientalis Remix) B1. Ayam (Red Axes Remix) B2. Majid (Nico Stojan Remix)

Khan (Matthew Herbert Mix) (7:27) a2: „Wanzka“ (Acid Pauli Remix) (6:05) b1: „Stone On Your Back (Frank Wiedemann Remix) (6:32) b2: „Desperate Man“ feat. Khan (Canson Ray Of Hope Mix) (7:27) digi bonus: „Desperate Man“ (Matthew Herbert Instrumental) (7:27) Info: In may 2013 the long-awaited second album by zurich resident production master kalabrese was released and inspired again the dance community. an unique musical piece made for independent sensitive dancers and listeners. now, a remix ep is released with re- interpretations from the album. and the handpicked producers got down to work just as respectful and musically passionate, all appreciating the „rumpel magic“. matthew 'indemnity' herbert runs against the storm with his „desperate man“ version and sparks a rolling fire of distortion synthesizers and blazing pads and voices. a peak-time bomb becoming also a whisky song à la tom waits as later the night gets. martin gretschmann aka acid pauli remains slenderly, takes away the euphoria of „wanzka“’s afro and rotates about some synthesizer-modules and a groove as dry as dust, the afterhour isn ́t far away... âme’s frank wiedemann masterly unrolls the dub and focusses on the solid choir of „stone on your back“. a strong massive track, fairly arousing, but also hugging the dancefloor and pointing to everybody’s hearts. a canson remix completes the ep. the producer from zurich helped himself from kalabrese’s huge treasury filled with dozens of files and put a backing voice in the center of the hypnotic groove, he treats the harmonies oft he original very carefully. a strong and independent remix ep that shows again, how full of potential kalabrese’s songs are and how incredibly relaxed the remixers dealt with them.
