OC PREVIEW: Ever asked yourself what would it be like if the pope let me write a sequel to the bible and it's just Mary Magdalene turning those demons in her body into her bitches?
This OC is heavily based on the story of Mary of Magdala — except she learns forbidden magic along the way, makes contracts with inhumane entities, and becomes immortal herself. A person with the powers of a sorceress and the lifespan of a deity - what could possibly go wrong?
Please ask me questions about her, I'm begging.

HER STORY: Leaders in the Cause of Christ, Mary of Magdala, a Disciple of Jesus
Like the five men called to be disciples at the beginning of John's Gospel, and the woman at the well in Samaria in Chapter 4, Mary of Magdala's story includes all twelve elements unique to Jesus's call. #MaryMagdalene #John20 #WomanDisciple
Though Mary of Magdala is a well-known figure in the gospels, she is not introduced by name until Jesus’s crucifixion in John’s Gospel (John 19:25). John doesn’t explain who she is, or what her relationship is to Jesus or his family, but there she is, with John and Mary, Jesus’s mother. That alone says how important she was to Jesus’s inner circle. In fact, Mary of Magdala is the only other…

Mary understands the FUNDamentals.
___
JOKE-OGRAPHY: 1. Mary Magdalene is mentioned in the Gospel as someone Jesus saves from demons, after which she's mentioned as a benefactor and ardent follower of His, culminating in her being the first of His disciples to witness His resurrection.  She, a lowly victim of demons, ends up being chosen to bring word of His rising to His apostles. 2. Mary is from the town of Magdala.  Her name, "Mary Magdalene", basically means "Mary of Magdala".  In the final panel of this cartoon, Mary calls herself "Mary of MagDOLLA".  MagDOLLA sounds like Magdala (her hometown), but ends with "dolla" (slang for "dollar" or "money") alluding to the fact that she helps fund Jesus's travels.

thinking about relics, about the kind of holding-on that takes such tight grip that bones fracture, undergo diaspora. a femur here, a skull there, a drop of blood on a paper in an attic. what does it mean when remembering is not re-membering at all--but rather something closer to dis-membering? what is lost, and what is gained, when bodies are preserved in disinterment, autopsied, again and again, each feast day? somewhere in between incorruptibility and fleshism is a glimpse at our own faith and its answer to whether or not memory has its teeth in us or the other way around

Mary OF Magdala (which is just the name of a fishing village and appended to her name because Mary was such a common name for Jewish women when she was born)
How are "conversion of Mary" paintings SO damn iconic (get it? fine, it's only a partial pun. these typical scenes were not usually icons)? It's not just strange because it's an example of classic ManBullshit to hyperfixate on a woman's "sexual sins" but because she was never a prostitute to begin with. I gather that she was too wealthy on her own for the "real" apostles and Gospel writers to not be jealous/suspicious of her past. In non-canonical Gospels, Paul is often depicted as envious of Mary because Christ loved her better and she understood more than Paul.
Go ahead, check my facts on Wiki, which, btw, is generally reliable. For a real source see Elizabeth Schussler Fiorenza's In Memory of Her, Chapter 2.
Also, consider this take on her exorcism from the WikiMind:
"The Gospels’ writers normally relish giving dramatic descriptions of Jesus's public exorcisms, with the possessed person wailing, thrashing, and tearing his or her clothes in front of a crowd.[41] By contrast, that Mary's exorcism receives little attention may indicate that either Jesus performed it privately or that the recorders did not perceive it as particularly dramatic."
It implicitly names Jesus as the exorciser; not sure why I never felt I could claim that conclusively before. Who else woulda done it pre-descent of the Holy Spirit? No else had the gifts!
This quote argues that the exorcism was a quiet affair (elsewhere in the article is posits the number 7, attributed as the amount of exorcisms needed, as signifying what 7 usually signifies--completeness-- or a signifying an immense amount of psychological trauma before Mary's encounter with Christ.

Treasure, Jesus and an Elaborate Hoax: The Story of Bérenger Saunière | Ancient Origins
Author’s Note: I, personally, have read Holy Blood, Holy Grail at least 3 times. And The Da Vinci Code at least twice. The movie is good. The BBC documentary on Bérenger Sauniére (it’s on YouTube) is decent. It’s pretty old though. Richard Leigh (one of the authors of Holy Blood, Holy Grail) is a pretty metal kind of…
