The shooting (or re-shooting) of a film’s ending for its theatrical release, usually enforced by the studio for any number of reasons (because of test audience preview re- sults, controversial or unpopular subject matter, to provide a ‘happy’ ending, etc.).

日本の研究室の教授にウィーンの教授との共同研究を自分の修士でやらせてもらえないか頼んでみたけど、厳しそうな回答だった。研究内容が成功する見込みのあるものだと裏付けできる証拠を揃えられていないのだからそう言われて当然だ。そんな状態で相談したもんだから単純に海外経験を増やしたいだけだと思われているだろうし、それは全く以て否定できない。

でも、もったいないなと思ってしまうんだよな。モラトリアム期間に日本にいることが。 こちらの学生は英語で研究ディスカッションして修論書くことが当たり前なのに、日本語でただ修論書いて卒業なんて、もったいないし【遅れている】気がしてしまう。

In my hometown Kalmthout, Belgium, there is a beautiful nature park called the Heide. As long as I can remember it’s my go-to place when I need time and space to think, to feel, to rest, to breathe, to connect.

Because a master project comes along with a lot of stress, fear and disappointment I felt that I needed to choose my project carefully, because these things can often affect me in a very negative way. So I chose an object for my project that, for me, helps with this stress, fear and disappointment. I want to create something that makes the viewer feel the same rest that I feel and admiration that I have for this nature. Also, because nature changes quickly, and we might not have a long time anymore to enjoy it, I believe it is important to create a sort of archive, collection, that can be useful for later generations. So that they can still enjoy the beauty of the Heide. And maybe, hopefully, it will encourage people right now to take more effort in preserving it.

I thought (and am still thinking) of a way to do this as good as possible, since it is still important to keep a certain artistic quality in my work. I started by just taking pictures in the Heide. I liked these pictures, but I felt it was not yet enough. You can go see the pictures under pages - photos. And how I’m trying to put them together in pages - publication.

Then I started to also make sketches whilst walking. And later on I started drawing from the pictures I had taken. I also like these results. You can find them under pages - drawings.

Because I wanted to make some sort of archive I also collect things I find in the Heide. Pretty leaves, mussy branches, bark that fell off... stuff like that. I’m still finding a way to make them visually appealing, but you can check out some that I scanned under pages - findings.

Right now I’m kind off struggling to find a medium to connect them all in a way that makes sense to the viewer.

I’m still taking my walks, collecting interesting things I see. I will keep doing this until I feel everything falls in place. Which I’m sure it will. Nature is an art form on its own.

The benefits of New Media Arts in Healthcare / Radiotherapy

Radiotherapy uses high-energy radiation, usually x-rays, to damage the DNA of the cancer cells. The type and amount of radiation is carefully calculated to cure, sterilise, control or palliate many types of cancer in almost all parts of the body. Radiotherapy stops the cancer cells from dividing properly and as a result they are destroyed, however, some healthy tissues may be affected producing some side effects. Nowadays, radiotherapy is planned in a very sophisticated way, using modern equipment in order to avoid as much healthy tissue as possible.

Following are a couple of tests of the art style of my masterproject 'Tussenjaar'. As we all know and can see I am very much in love with using an HB graphite pencil. (Stabilo if you are curious)

How is everything?

My masterproject presentation went so well and i had fun yesterday so that's a good thing but im exhausted to the core and im a bit sad

My masterproject, Apartment 420 - fragments of a memory, 244x716 cm. Soon ready, soon hanging from the ceiling to the floor as a house you can step into.  

In the master project I have used all the apartments I have lived in as memory triggers. The memories that were triggered were not necessarily related to the specific apartment. Returning to places I lived, I brought to life events and memories of objects, things I had forgotten. I did not try to copy these objects that came to me, but rather reproduce them as I felt them. Freely translated from memory, I cut down all the objects, dreams and events that came to my mind into the wood. The repetitive slow action of cutting out, became like a meditation, and made me remember. The memories intersected, time became relative, and everything meshed together.
