The other day I wrote in the tags that I was certain Mayuri/Zaraki was a canon ship but I couldn't remember why, but NOW I I DO. When I first read TYBW I was reading as scanlation that translated both of these lines as "I don't dislike illogical things" and I was like hehehe... braintwins. >:} MAYURI WOULD BE SO MAD ABOUT THIS

But it's TRUE these two brought the exact same energy to TYBW. Byakuya's out here contemplating visceral philosophies of fear and Hitsugaya's rambling about thermodynamics but Mayuri and Zaraki show up like "fuck it, WE BALLLLLLLL"

Mayuri's line is 「非常識な事は嫌いじゃア無い」

Zaraki's is 「理屈の通じねえのは嫌いじゃねえぜ」

What these two lines have in common is:

the construction "I don't hate..."

both Zaraki and Mayuri not hating illogical things (though they use different words to describe the concept)

Translating the two lines, I came up with:

Mayuri: I don't DISlike the absurd.

Zaraki: I ain't mad about crazy!

For Mayuri, I decided to go with "I don't DISlike the absurd" because he's speaking pretty standard Japanese, but emphasizes one of the syllables of "hate/dislike," so I went with 'DISlike' to mimic that. I went with "the absurd" because nominalizations like that are super academic-y, which I feel like gives it the air of an ~intellectual. It also shares its construction with stuff like "theatre of the absurd," where Mayuri sure is troddin' the boards TONITE.

For Zaraki, his tiny lead-in bubble says 「ムチャクチャだな」 a translation for which can be "that's really absurd." I translated this as "fuckin' nuts" because "fucking" is used as a coarse emphatic in English all the time, and it matches the overall coarse pattern of Zaraki's speech in Japanese. The actual phrase he uses is also part of the title of a popular manga, "Love You Like Crazy." So for Zaraki's "I don't dislike illogical things" I borrowed the "like crazy" sentiment from that earlier bubble and went with "I ain't mad about crazy!" because I felt like that matched the coarse pattern of the original and there's a little fun wordplay there in terms of "mad about" as in "hate/dislike" and "mad" as a synonym for "crazy."

AT THE END OF THE DAY, the sentiment they are expressing is the same, they are braintwins!!! And given that the last two digits of these chapters are transpositions of each other, manga numerology dictates that KenMayu is super SUPER canon now.

It makes me sad how so few people talk about Steins;Gate. Or rather, the parts they focus on are the cool time travel parts. Don’t get me wrong, those are great, but I just want to gush to someone about Okabe, Kurisu, and Mayuri: their exchanges, their motivations, the micro expressions in the animations…. And like, no one does.

Bleach omake plot where the ladies of Soul Society are devastated to learn that the mysterious, hot, life-drawing model they were fawning over at their art club was actually Mayuri without his makeup.

They only find out because they spot him leaving with Nemu and assume they're dating so they corner Nemu for details and discover the truth.

No one speak of it again and they all give up on the art club.

While the irl answer for Mayuri's character toning down after Soul Society arc is undoubtedly Kubo, after having been lost in the sauce of making an absolutely despicable villain, was like 'oh shit I have to make this man somewhat palatable now', it's been fun exploring what might have happened in the bounds of the story. I think it could be anything from a light reprimand, maybe from Yamamoto, that he can't go around blowing up his squad (and beating the shit out of his Lieutenant), to something deeper and more uncomfortable where members of his own division confronted him about it. Like I'm sure even someone giving zero fucks like Mayuri does would feel a *little* bad after, say, Akon told him he'd gone too far. And then we could assume that he gave Nemu some kind of apology and did some soul searching, even if that soul searching is nothing more than 'well it doesnt really make sense for me to harm my own manpower'.

Anyway I'm writing all this to say that a Mayuri who hooked up with Szayel and joined Aizen's forces would've looked at that soul searching and been like 'fuck that' - in other words he'd continue on in Absolute Bastard mode and probably just get worse:)

Hey, dear! Nice to see you here! :D And don’t worry, the number always changes so it’s not bad that you asked. The problem is, I stopped counting at some point. Because, and that might sound a little creepy, I’ve definitely played Duskwood about 50 times now. 😅 But in my defense, I started playing duskwood when there were only the first two episodes and I had to wait for episode three. So I’ve been there for quite a long time and had a lot of time to replay, and I did. 😂 And I am very sure that I will definitely reach the 100 at some point. At the latest when the new game is out it becomes even more interesting. 😌 I am sure that you will repeat Duskwood again, so I wish you a lot of fun and thank you for your interest and your time! It was, perhaps, a sudden request made towards the 12th Division's Captain, but one that - likely - would prove to be interesting enough to indulge a mutual bout of acceptance in each other's presence.
