I went back in the Channel 4 app and watched some older scenes from last year of McShep (or rather pre-McShep)

I decidedly miss Carter being toppy and bossy, the whole “John Paul, face me” thing prior to us knowing he was gay and had feelings for JP was so interesting. Makes me wonder what the writers at the time were drawing that motivation from - it may have been they briefed the actors they’d be slow burn towards realised feelings for eachother, but at the time JP was just happy to have a new friend who was helping him care about himself again and he was so compliant to Carter. I wish we knew more about JP’s thoughts back then.

I had completely forgotten that Goldie had suggested to JP that Carter had feelings for him and then JP asked him out for dinner. Carter said he’d love to but he had a zoom date with his girlfriend; I’m confused why he said that on so many levels. Did he actually have something going on? The dinner invite was so innocent and innocuous, why did he assume it was anything else and immediately and naturally swerve it like that? It’s weird to watch now. Before then he would have had NO idea JP liked him, in fact did JP even like him until Goldie suggested it? Did he even fancy Carter then?

I know Gareth left as the actor was in a play in London, and he’s due back briefly soon, but I’m still so curious about him. Was he secretly in love with Carter? Because watching back some of it makes sense with that in mind. But then he was also weird about JP but perhaps not in the same way.

Where did all the billboards and posters go of Carter’s group? Those were amazing lol. I want one.

I am compiling further thoughts the more I rewatch…

Hollyoaks' definition of relationships is so bizarre. in what sense of the word was JP and Carter in a relationship?? in what sense were they seeing each other?? Carter occasionally fell for temptation and then gave JP the cold shoulder for weeks until the next time. and the time JP said they were "on a break"; you can't be on a break from nothing. ffs. if we were supposed to assume that stuff happened between them off screen, they have failed completely in making that clear. when they talked about sleeping together after the second time, it was also stated that it only happened twice. imo nothing in their scenes hints to anything happening that we didn't see.

Tracy McCarter, a Black domestic violence survivor accused of murdering her abusive husband, has officially been freed. On Friday, Judge Diane Kiesel dismissed the second-degree murder charges against McCarter on the recommendation of Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg.

From the beginning, Tracy has said she acted in self-defense and never meant for her husband, James Murray, who was white, to die. Now, over two years later, she can finally put the ordeal behind her.

Yes!! Is McCarter the official ship name we’re going with? I’ve seen some people using McShep which would fit in with JP’s other ship names. But honestly, I’m so invested in this storyline as well, I desperately need them to just be together already. It’s as bad as the wait for Chryed in EE was 😭 I’ve never watched Holby City so I had no clue who David Ames was before HO, but after someone commented that he was in it, I watched a video of Dom/Isaac’s storyline and nearly bawled. He’s such a good actor!

Oh there it is. And he’s gone. So sad they’re over but so glad we saw them work together. Their chemistry was immense. We’ll always have #mcshep.

I just learned that Doug's last name was Carter, so McCarter is his and JP's shipname, another reason for why McShep is clearly the best one for JP/Carter. that aside I must say that Doug seems like the most sane, reasonable and undramatic gay guy by far in the show at that point in time (and having an American be that makes me wonder about these British writers' self-images lol), with JP being the second, so I think they could have had a pretty good stable relationship if they had been able to commit to each other, i.e. if it wasn't for Ste and Craig. too bad.
