I visited the craft thrift store last week and found this treasure in the free bin

Information and rambling under the cut

The original Kwik•Sew 1487 has a 1985 copyright, with the Elna version being ©1990 (although Kwik•Sew, when it was independent, always put its copyrights in Roman numerals and they chose to write MCMLXXXX instead of MCMXC)

As soon as I saw it, I wanted to use it to make something for The Child (so it's in the sewing project queue for now.) It is completely uncut, so I'm guessing whoever got it--probably for free--with their Elna serger did not want to engage in such frivolities.

Whenever I do make this, I'll probably take a lot of volume out of those sleeves.

The rounded extensions on pieces 3 and 12 of view B are pockets

I noticed that the back of the envelope calls for four different fabrics for view A, while the cover image has five (and it also looks like the checkerboard part may have been pieced from black and white fabrics, instead of being a printed fabric), so this pattern has so many possibilities for mixing fabrics.

Unrelated to the previous rambling: I really do love Enigma their music and it was formative to me as a person. We used to listen to The Screen Behind The Mirror and MCMXC a.D. albums all the time, especially if it was just me and dad. Mum was never much of an Enigma fan but the music always touched me before I even understood a word of English, and was my introduction to Gregorian chant. I tend to forget to listen to them these days but then when shuffle re-introduces me, it is always a joy.
