i love the idea of zuko mirroring iroh as he grows up in that he becomes one of the people in the gaang that you can go to with your problems and he's going to EAT at giving advice

#i also love this because it subverts zuko's ultimate fear (becoming his father) and instead shows him at his very best #and i think one thing about zuko that i have always loved #is that he's genuinely a decent guy (peri/post redemption obvi but even....you know.....under all that brainwash too)#and as more people realize that. the more he gets to really show that off #like is he awkward with it? yeah. definitely. esp younger zuko #but he's also so GENUINE about it too #i'm thinking specifically about the beach ep when azula calls out mai's trauma #and zuko very sweetly without reading the room is like 'i love it when you express yourself <3'#like my guy you're an idiot but also my babie #this is also hilarious to me bc it parallels my kaz........KJNSKRJYNH #you can go to confession with the 'bad guy' and know he has no business judging you! me watching sab season 2, just mentally repeating to myself: it's not an adaptation it's high budget fanfiction, it's not an adaptation it's high budget fanfiction

#YOU CAN'T JUST PUT THE BATHROOM SCENE THERE #AND THEN TRY AND CRAM EVERY GOOD KANEJ LINE INTO IT BC YOU HAVEN'T GIVEN THE SPACE FOR THEM ALL TO COME OUT NATURALLY #YOU WERE GIVEN MORE TIME THAN YOU NEEDED TO TELL A STORY AND YOU'VE *COMPACTED* IT #like don't get me wrong i love a lot of what they've done here!#but like. s1 was mirroring the soc plot. so i assumed s2 would mirror crooked kingdom #but like. s1 was MUCH lower stakes than soc and gave room for it to build from there #it was a believable prequel even with the changes made #but s2 just feels like they've tried to fit every good ck moment in here #except they've allowed no buildup whatsoever #so every good moment from the books just feels cheap as hell #and i can't imagine how they could ever try to do the book plots in a future season when they've already sucked them dry #like im only on episode 3 maybe it'll change and im still for the most part enjoying watching it #but. WARNING FOR ANIMAL DEATH/MUTILATION IN THE TAGS

I think I’ve figured out why it’s the stuff with my cats that gets me the most viscerally upset when it comes to my roommate and I think I need to tell him why that is… we had a talk and he apologized for a lot of stuff but I just feel like I need to explain why I react so intensely to him hating my cats/wanting me to get rid of them

#like there’s the obvious things I’ve said before that ANY pet owner would feel the same about obvious #but like. okay I love cats. I’ve loved cats my WHOLE life #not just cats but animals in general #animals were baby’s first special interest #and I grew up on a farm and I had usually at least 8 pets at a time growing up #that I got money for by doing odd jobs and you know as a child you can spend all your money on your hobbies #and I love animals so I had pets #specifically I always had at least 3-4 cars #*cats #my mom’s first husband hated cats… fucking DESPISED them #and he talked about hating them/getting rid of them all the time #and. well. when I ever did anything to really piss him off #(which you know as a nine year old could be something as simple as breathing too loudly or some shit)#he would kill them #that man killed probably like 20 cats #cuz even after I was old enough to process ‘don’t get more cats bad things will happen to them’#my mom would bring home cats cuz she ALSO loved and wanted cats #even when I would beg her not to because I knew they were going to die #she never cared because in that moment she wanted cats #and obviously this was awful and damaging #and now that I live on my own with my two cats who are my BABIES that I love and cherish #my roommate talking about hating them and wanting them gone….#yeah it’s uh. um. hitting some really specific nerves #obviously I do not think he would EVER EVER do something like that #because you know. he’s not an insane control freak who hates me and animals #it’s still hitting those nerves #and yeah I think I need to tell him that for us to start coming to an understanding #like i get you don’t LOVE my cats you don’t have to #but you can’t talk that way about them… or I’m going to get VERY upset and defensive #kaz rambles

Another thing that bothers me abt the show is the way they just took phrases and things from the book that had actual significance or meaning and just used them as a one off line or Easter egg that completely changed the context or misses the point of what those things were supposed to mean if that makes sense? They did it with the investment line by trying to make it romantic and were like ‘haha remember when kaz said investment in the books’ while completely ignoring that that line was NEVER supposed to be romantic like at all, they did it with the white rose when they could have used literally used any other brothel when the white rose canonically wasn’t like that, they did it with the ‘crows remember human faces line’ ignoring that it was completely out of place and kind of cheapens kaz’s development later on. Like I get that you can’t clearly explain what everything means but at the same time it feels like they missed the point of these things so badly and were just trying to cater to fans without thinking about why the fans were so interested in the books in the first place

I hated this trend so so much about the show. My fav offense was that one episode title, "The Heart Is An Arrow", when show!Inej hasn't said A SINGLE PROVERB in the entire runtime bc the writers forgot she is supposed to be all wise and elegant, and then the title didn't even have anything to do with the episode's plot when the proverb plays the center role in Inej's character journey in the books. The examples you mentioned are all horrible misinterpretations of characters and I am so angry at them bc it means the lines won't be used once the time for them comes. This is what my nightmares are made of
