📢 Demystifying the Med School Application Process 🩺 ✨ Your guide to navigating each step with confidence! ✨
Applying to medical school can feel overwhelming, but breaking it down into clear steps makes the journey smoother. Here’s how you can set yourself up for success! 👇
🔹 1. Start Early ⏳ – Research schools, prerequisites, and application deadlines at least a year in advance.
🔹 2. Crush the MCAT 🎯 – Give yourself 3–6 months of dedicated prep time. Take full-length practice tests and identify weak areas early.
🔹 3. Perfect Your Personal Statement ✍️ – Highlight your passion for medicine with compelling stories that show resilience, empathy, and commitment.
🔹 4. Get Strong Letters of Recommendation 📩 – Build relationships with professors, physicians, and mentors who can write personalized, glowing endorsements.
🔹 5. Gain Clinical & Research Experience 🏥 – Shadow doctors, volunteer in healthcare settings, and get involved in research to strengthen your application.
🔹 6. Master the AMCAS Application 📑 – Be meticulous with your coursework, extracurriculars, and meaningful experiences. Triple-check for errors!
🔹 7. Nail the Interviews 🎙️ – Practice answering ethical dilemmas, personal motivation questions, and MMI scenarios to showcase your problem-solving and communication skills.
🔹 8. Stay Resilient 💪 – Rejections happen, but persistence is key. Seek feedback, improve your application, and try again if needed!
🚀 Med school is within your reach—prepare, plan, and trust the process! 🚀

Pre-med Lessons
My pre med advisors were more than amazing but you know the one thing they forgot to tell me? How EXPENSIVE it is to apply to medical school.💰
I recommend saving between $1000-$3000. You have to consider paying for the Primary applications, secondary applications, travel accommodations for interviews, professional clothing to interview, then school deposits after being accepted ✈️🏥 I in no way prepared for these expenses so I ended up opening a credit card even though this is not the best choice to make
I applied to 17 schools and interviewed at 5. All of which I enjoyed but I ultimately chose the one that was the best fit for me. ✅

Accepted
I can’t believe it. It’s finally happened. After 10 years, 2 application cycles, countless personal statement drafts, 84 secondaries, 2 interviews (1 last cycle and one this cycle so far, with a few more coming up), and thousands of dollars, I was accepted into medical school this morning. I did it, ma!
I want to thank all of the people that have helped me throughout this process and were there for me when I was at my lowest point. After those 40 rejections last cycle, I wasn’t confident in myself and was starting to doubt my ability to become a physician. Thankfully, I had a great support system that lifted me back up. I’m sorta thankful that I went through the application process (besides spending all that money), because I learned to not be so damn neurotic and just accept the fact that this whole thing is almost a crapshoot - only ~40% of applicants matriculate, so the odds are definitely out of the applicant’s favor.
Originally when I made this blog, I wanted to document my journey throughout the application cycle. Sorry that didn’t happen, but it wasn’t that eventful \o/ It would have just been me complaining about those endless secondaries.
Now I’m just relieved that I don’t have to go through the same anxiety of wondering if I will have to apply again next cycle like I did last year. I can just go through my future interviews more confident, without the overlooming pressure of having to get in anywhere, and probably perform even better without that pressure. I’m just looking forward to just chill, travel, and work on myself before starting school, now. I’m going to be a doctor! Ahhhh!!!!!!!!

Secondaries (And So They Begin..)
I told myself I was going to pre-write them to save myself the headache.. Yeah, well that didn’t happen and my AACOMAS just got processed yesterday and my AMCAS got processed today. Anticipating 50+ secondaries incoming this month. I hope I don’t die. Wish me luck x.x

two things that you should never have to incur in the same week:
med school apps and dentist appointments.
because really, when you think about it, they are pretty much the same thing.
